G/S/C Monotype Challenge

There might be an active thread of this, but the owner has not been here for quite a time, the first page was edited in april for the last time.
rules, banners and participants are copied from the other thread (only rule 1, 8 and 9 were changed a bit), since this is still the same challenge.
Please correct me if i did some mistake in the lists, because of name changes or whatever.

Rules:
(Don't take them too serious, this is for fun and killing time)
1. Your run will be finished when defeat Red. (just 16 badges is too easy)
2. Starter may only be used if it falls underneath your type
3. Multiple people may do the same type at once
4. HM slaves allowed
5. Secondary types are allowed
6. Please update actively
7. This is NOT a race
8. Please do not trade unless for evolution reasons. If you choose a type, which gets its first Pokemon really late in the game, you may trade a low-leveled, unevolved pokemon (or an egg) of your type/that evolves into your type
9. No legendaries (but they may be used as HM slaves)! (it takes the fun out of the game)

Inactive Participants (No Update for >2 Months (status: 20.04.10)):
Note: The participants list is split only for convenience reasons. So, if you are on the inactive list, you can still continue your challenge any time - if you want.
Excuse the spoiler splitting, I will fix this problem as soon as I find out how.

banners by Cooltrainer_Mike are in the spoiler, but sadly there are only banners for the 'main' types

...And why should i open this thread if i wouldnt participate? i'll do Ice, nobody has done that type yet, because of the no-trading-rule.
Well, i was having some problems trading me a swinub egg (i'm using swinub because it's the weakest ice type, except for delibird which would have been too hard), first it took eternities till the Swinub and the Ditto on Gold Version finally had an egg, then TGB Dual didnt accept my VBA savefiles, later VBA didnt accept the TGB Dual savefiles, but somehow i managed it, and finally i have a Swinub Lv. 5 (and a lv. 3 Pidgey because i traded my starter Chikorita for the egg) on Crystal version now, so my challenge can begin now.

FLORYN September 17th, 2009 12:08 PM

Archer September 19th, 2009 12:37 AM

I suppose it's worth posting here instead.

BAM!

Status: Defeated Red - Challenge Complete
Badges: 16

- Thunder Wave

~ Lanturn - Lv 60

- Ice Punch
- Cross Chop

~ Jolteon - Lv 61

I know the team's a little underlevelled, but that just goes to show how you can win with the right skill and preparation. :D

mondays suck September 19th, 2009 1:44 AM

Congratulations for finishing, Archer, i added you to the Winners list

__________

I thought Ice would be hard because Swinub is so weak, but Ice/Ground is just such an awesome combination, i just beat Bugsy and the entire game has been incredibly easy up to this point.
screenshot that shows how awesome swinub is:

- Mud Slap

But i suppose the rival fight wont be that easy, i think i'll need some Hax, which means Quilava's Ember missing after Mud Slap...

Archer September 19th, 2009 3:14 AM

Thanks. I'm going to move onto Emerald, now. I prefer the third game in each trio - it usually has a better selection of pokemon.

Please make sure that you keep this thread alive, because all of these Monotype threads seem to need replacing when the host quits.

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ September 19th, 2009 10:54 AM

I think you should become the new owner of the earlier thread since both this and the other one is still active

Since there aren't really any Ghost type Pokemon I guess I can try to do a Poison monotype challenge

:t354:TG

mondays suck September 20th, 2009 1:01 AM

so what? does the old thread need replacement or does only the first post of the old thread need replacement? ...because the R/B/Y thread also was replaced, while it was still active...
this is getting confusing...

_____________

I'm at Goldenrod now. The Fire weak is annoying, i had to train Swinub to lv. 23 so Quilava didnt 2HKO it and later i blacked out against some Firebreather with 2 Magmars. I hadnt saved so i just accepted the loss of money and continued. Beat everyone except for Whitney now, i'll attempt her soon.

I wont be able to enter Ice Path before i beat team Rocket in Radio Tower, so Pokemon like Jynx or Sneasel are still far away. But i'm planning to catch a Seel on the way to Cianwood, so i have to get Whirlpool from Lance and beat Pryce before.

michele September 20th, 2009 4:16 PM

shoot, i haven't updated in like a week.
i'll have to remember to do that tomorrow; possibly sometime tonight.

mondays suck September 21st, 2009 5:51 AM

Beat Gyarados, Team Rocket and Pryce, caught a Seel, beat Chuck and completely owned Jasmine. And i'm starting to neglect my weaker teammembers again, Lapras has a slight advantage in levels...
But soon i can finally access Ice Pass and catch a Sneasel and a Jynx, i think they'll balance my team a bit more

mondays suck September 26th, 2009 1:19 AM

Crunch on Feraligatr, Aqua Tail on Gyara, Hypnosis and Psychic on Yanma... Looks like Gen 4 (->HG/SS) movesets... Maybe i should add these two here, but since theres a whole HG/SS-forum, maybe not...

Ohk an i finally beat Claire now. Pokemon didnt change except for Sneasel being 32 and Lapras being 49 now. The first Dragoniar killed all my Pokemon, damn me for losing against something i have a type advantage against, but Sneasel was able to take it out with Shadow Ball, it had already been weakened by Seel before (and the other ones all got OHKOd or 2HKOd with Parahax, i just don't understand it) Sneasel died against Kingdra, which came next. Lapras got some -Acc before Kingdra went down, but i was lucky and Ice Beam hit on the other Dragonairs.
I decided to stop training Delibird from now, that thing got easily pwned by a HORSEA, so my dump for useless TMs will stay lv. 30 now as training it wouldnt help at all. I'll look again for a Jynx instead, it's rare, but all these Golbats in Ice Path give good Exp, so it won't be a complete waste of time looking for it.

The Sceptile King September 26th, 2009 6:20 AM

Beat Claire and spent A LOT of time in Ice Path looking for Jynx afterwards, i'm seriously overleveled now, but didnt find a Jynx. Currently in Victory Road.

Team:

Piloswine Lv. 43
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/2/22/Spr_2g_221.png
- Strength
- Headbutt
- Icy Wind
- Mud Slap
Still pretty much the same, i'll teach it EQ soon.

Cloyster Lv. 50
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/3/3b/Spr_2g_090.png
- Whirlpool
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Aurora Beam
This thing had an Exp.Share all the time i was looking for Jynx, when it learned Ice Beam, i gave up. Whirlpool because i was too lazy to catch a HM slave.

Lapras Lv. 49
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/53/Spr_2g_131.png
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Confuse Ray
- Body Slam
Only thing that didnt really level up, but still one of the pokemon with highest level.

Dewgong Lv. 44
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/c/c0/Spr_2g_086.png
- Headbutt
- Waterfall
- Aurora Beam
- Ice Beam
As i said, very similar to Lapras.

Delibird Lv. 30
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/4/49/Spr_2s_225.png
- Present
- Fly
- Swagger
- Attract
Stopped training this thing now, it's just too weak, but i can still use it as revive fodder.

Sneasel Lv. 44
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/d7/Spr_2s_215.png
- Shadow Ball
- Dig
- Iron Tail
- Dynamicpunch
Still no Slash, i thought Sneasel would learn that move and i could finally replace that stupid Dynamicpunch

Whoops, forgot to replace Seels and Shellders Sprites up there, but i beat the E4 now, which was pretty easy.
Oh, and i was bored, so i recorded the battles.
levels didnt really change...

FLORYN September 28th, 2009 8:05 AM

How I beat Pikachu :

Out of impatience , I left Destroyer against Pikachu (b4 it was Venusaur and Shell fainted in a SolarBeam ) . He used Thunder , killed it and sent Dampie . That noob used Thunder again , I used Earthquake ..... red life = FullRestore . Ooops . He just kept with Electric moves and eventually after a lot of Full Restoress killed it !!

Final Team :

CRUNCHIE Lv. 75

That's IT ! I'll pick a Monocolour challenge ! Also mondays suck , can ye put me on winner list ?

mondays suck September 29th, 2009 10:10 AM

How did you get your Pokemon that high, for me it took already ages to level a Jumpluff from 58 to 63 with 4000% speed... xD

But i finally caught a Jynx, now, so i can finally get rid of Delibird. Caught it with Master Ball because i'm pretty sure i would have killed it if i'd attack it.
http://i38.*.com/2z68aib_th.png

560cool. September 29th, 2009 10:13 AM

In my PC it made 7000 % Speed....
Dunno how P.S : FINALLLY i FINISHED my first monotype ! The honor to be in the winner list....

I finally continued a bit now. Bred a Smoochum with the Jynx i caught (Smoochum learns Psychic by level up and Jynx apparently doesnt). Currently trying to train Smoochum, it's about Lv.10 now.

FireRed Supergiant October 4th, 2009 7:13 PM

this looks like so much fun! i was about to restart silver and build a psychic team, so this should be perfect. only drawback is i wanted to use lugia and exeggutor. rules exclude legendaries and i was gonna trade a leaf stone to evolve exeggcute, but that's out so i'll just wait to do that until kanto.

but yeah, put me down for a psychic run!

EDIT: First update, didn't want to double post
--Chose Cyndaquil as starter
Retrieved egg, defeated rival, delivered egg
Arrived in Violet City, proceeded to Ruins of Alph
Caught A-shaped Unown, deposited Cyndaquil
Determined Unown-A to have Fighting-type hidden power
Caught B-shaped Unown
Determined Unown-B to have Rock-type hidden power (PERFECT for first two gyms)
Cleared Sprout Tower
Defeated Gym #1: Falkner
Received EGG from Elm's aide
Proceeded to entrance at Union Cave

Current Party:
1. Unown-A: Level 9 (Hidden Power = Fighting)
2. Unown-B: Level 11 (Hidden Power = Rock)
3. Egg

I've never used Unown in my party before. I love the HP type distribution I got, since the only existing type combination found in Gen 2 games which resists both is Ground/Poison, and I won't be facing any Nidoking/Nidoqueen before I get my Slowpoke at the well.

Bedtime

I beat the rest of the game only using Lapras because it covers pretty much anything and Sneasel, which covers two important things Lapras doesnt: Electric and Psychic. And now, it's...

Time for Red!
Spoiler:

Sneasel vs Pikachu
Sneasel dug a hole, Pikachu used Charm, missed
Sneasel used Dig, -95% left Pikachu used Thunder, missed
Red used Full Restore, Sneasel used Slash (-45%)
Sneasel dug a hole, Pikachu used something i was clicking too fast, missed
Sneasel used Dig, KOs Pikachu

Lapras vs Charizard
Charizard used Fire Spin, missed lol
Lapras used Surf, -95%
Charizard used Flamethrower, 199/289
Lapras used Surf, KOs Charizard

Sneasel vs Espeon
Sneasel used Shadow Ball, -55%
Espeon used Swift, 112/152
Sneasel used Shadow Ball, KOs Espeon
Sneasel leveled up, quite an unimportant level-up

Sneasel vs Snorlax
Sneasel used Iron Tail, crit, -20%
Snorlax used Body Slam, KOs Sneasel

Lapras vs Snorlax
Lapras gets Leftovers recovery, 217/289
Lapras used Ice Beam, -30%
Snorlax used Body Slam, 129/289, paralyzed
Lapras gets Leftovers recovery, 147/289
Snorlax used Body Slam, 56/289, Lapras is fully paralyzed
Lapras gets Leftovers recovery, 74/289
Full Restore on Lapras, Snorlax used Body Slam, 215/289 after Leftovers recovery
Lapras used Ice Beam -30%, Snorlax used Body Slam, 139/289 after Leftovers recovery
Lapras used Ice Beam, KOs Snorlax whew, he didnt use full restore

Lapras vs Venusaur
Lapras gets Leftovers recovery, 161/289
Venusaur took in sunlight, Lapras used Ice Beam, -80% damn, it outspeeds me... but lapras is pretty bulky, it should survive that
Lapras gets Leftovers recovery, 179/289

used Revive on Sneasel, Venusaur used Solar Beam, KOs Delibird

Lapras vs Venusaur
Venusaur used Sunny Day, Lapras used Ice Beam, KOs Venusaur
Lapras leveled up here, that's why it has higher max hp for the rest of the battle

Lapras vs Blastoise
Blastoise used Surf, 277/294 First he uses Sunny Day and then Surf... wtf?
Lapras used Thunderbolt, -45%
Lapras gets Leftovers recovery, 294/294
Blastoise used Surf, 275/294
Lapras used Thunderbolt, -45%

w00t you finished too !
Well , congrats , it is sure a thing to finish ! :):):):)

mondays suck October 6th, 2009 8:49 AM

thanks, but finishing things also has a downside, i'll be running out of challenges some time =D

i'm pretty sure i'll do this again some time, but not too soon, i did maybe a bit too many GSC runs recently

FireRed Supergiant October 6th, 2009 8:52 AM

Cleared Union Cave
Cleared Slowpoke Well
Caught a Slowpoke
Beat Gym #2: Bugsy
Got HM01, withdrew Cyndaquil, taught it Cut

  • Unown-B: L20 Unown (Rock-type hidden power)
  • Drowzee: L19 Drowzee (Hypnosis, Confusion, Pound, Disable)
  • Maestro: L18 Alakazam (Teleport, Fire Punch, Thunder Punch, Ice Punch)
  • Cyndaquil: L9 Cyndaquil (Cut, Tackle, Leer, Smokescreen)

Bought elemental punch TM’s from store, taught all 3 to Maestro
Evolved Maestro into Kadabra, traded to evolve into Alakazam
Caught Sudowoodo
Arrived Ecruteak City
Cleared Kimono Girls, received HM03
Scattered legendary dogs
Detour to Oivine
Received HM04
Cleared Lighthouse
Returned to Ecruteak, beat Gym #4: Morty
Caught Natu
Went to Cianwood, retrieved medicine
Beat Gym #5: Chuck, evolved Natu
Taught Fly to Xatu
Beat Gym #6: Jasmine

Current Party
  • Maestro: L35 Alakazam (Psybeam, Fire Punch, Thunderpunch, Recover)
  • Unown-A: L20 Unown (Fighting-type hidden power)

  • Drowzee: L19 Drowzee (Hypnosis, Confusion, Pound, Disable)
  • Xatu: L25 Xatu (Fly, Leer, Night Shade, Teleport)

Alakazam has definitely taken over as the alpha male on this team. He’s just so versatile with the elemental punches that everyone else seems to become too specialized.

FLORYN October 6th, 2009 12:05 PM

FireRed Supergiant October 7th, 2009 9:54 AM

LONG POST ahead. Would have posted each as its own post, but not enough activity in this thread so it would have been me posting several times in a row or editing the same post multiple times. Wrote down stuff in MS Word, copied it to here. One spoiler section is one main segment of my run.

Update 1: Lake of Rage through E4

Spoiler:

Caught Red Gyarados
Cleared Radio Tower
Beat Gym #7: Pryce
Cleared Ice Path
Beat Gym #8: Clair
Rec’d Master Ball
Cleared Route 27, Route 26, Victory Road
Defeated Elite Four

Current Party
  • Maestro: L50 Alakazam (Psychic, Ice Punch, Thunderpunch, Recover)
  • Unown-A: L23 Unown (Fighting-type hidden power)
  • Unown-B: L25 Unown (Rock-type hidden power)
  • Drowzee: L22 Drowzee (Hypnosis, Confusion, Pound, Disable)
  • Xatu: L25 Xatu (Fly, Leer, Night Shade, Teleport)

Yup, this was a one-man show. It’s great because I can still keep recover and use 2 of the three remaining slots for elemental punches. I keep a few spares on hand, to adjust which 2 he knows as the situation demands.

Update 2: SS Aqua through Kanto Power Plant
Spoiler:

Took SS Aqua to Vermillion city
Went north to Cerulean to talk to Bill’s grandfather
Had to go catch Lickitung (everstone), Oddish (leaf), and Staryu (water)
Caught Exeggcute
Evolved Staryu (Tsunami) and Exeggcute (Krebbs)
Taught Surf to Tsunami, Strength to Krebbs
Beat Lt. Surge
Beat Sabrina, also acquired TM29 from Mr. Psychic
Beat Erika, taught Giga Drain to Krebbs
Went to power plant, back to Cerulean, retrieved machine part, fixed generator
Beat Misty
Went back to Johto, bought TM29 (psychic)
Taught psychic to Tsunami and Krebbs, taught return to Tsunami

Current Party
  • Maestro: L54 Alakazam (Psychic, Ice Punch, Thunderpunch, Recover)
  • Tsunami: L28 Starmie (Psychic, Return, Surf, Recover)
  • Krebbs: L26 Exeggutor (Psychic, Strength, Giga Drain, Hypnosis)
  • Unown-A: L25 Unown (Fighting-type hidden power)
  • Unown-B: L28 Unown (Rock-type hidden power)
  • Xatu: L25 Xatu (Fly, Leer, Night Shade, Teleport)

Update 3: EXPN Card through Mt. Silver
Spoiler:

Back to Johto, flew to Lavender Town, got EXPN Card
Caught Snorlax near Diglett’s Cave
Went to Pewter City, Beat Brock
Went south to Cinnabar Island, talked to Blue
Went to Seafoam Islands, beat Blaine
Went to Fuschia City, beat Janine
Flew to Viridian City, beat Blue
Talked to Professor Oak, got access to Mt. Silver
Taught Flash to Xatu
Trained Tsunami and Krebbs up to reasonable levels at Mt. Silver

Current Party
  • Maestro: L60 Alakazam (Psychic, Ice Punch, Thunderpunch, Recover)
  • Tsunami: L54 Starmie (Psychic, Return, Surf, Recover)
  • Krebbs: L56 Exeggutor (Psychic, Strength, Giga Drain, Hypnosis)
  • Unown-A: L25 Unown (Fighting-type hidden power)
  • Unown-B: L28 Unown (Rock-type hidden power)
  • Xatu: L25 Xatu (Fly, Leer, Night Shade, Flash)

More training yet to come. I plan to delete Krebbs’s strength to trade it for rollout.
30/60/120/240/480 is way better than 80/80/80/80/80 over 5 turns. Red’s final-form starters will be pretty easy since Maestro has Psychic and ThunderPunch. I’ll keep his Recover and then give him one other move via TM. I’m thinking either Shadow Ball for Espeon or Attract for Snorlax.

Update 4: Final Battle with Red
Spoiler:

After a few failures trying to defeat Red, I decided to overhaul Krebbs’s moveset. Eliminated Giga Drain in favor of Curse and made him hold PrzCureBerry. Also, made Maestro hold a Magnet.

--Opened with Krebbs vs Pikachu, put it to sleep and started away with a few applications of Curse. Had to put Pikachu back to sleep, then used a Hyper Potion and started with Rollout. Missed once, had to do it again. Pikachu tried Charm but Krebbs is a dude, too, so no dice (THANK GOD I didn't catch Krebbs as a female, that could have derailed everything). Pikachu went down on turn #4.
--Red sent out Charizard next. Krebbs tried to keep rolling out, so he died. Switched in Tsunami, who took the hits like a champ while I revived Krebbs. Three Surfs and Charizard was down.
--Tsunami wasn't too useful against Espeon, so I changed back to Krebbs. He took a lot of Swifts from Espeon, but his Rollout took out the cat in the end.
--Snorlax was a big pain, but strategy paid off. Kept Krebbs in the battle, maxed out the applications of Curse so his attack and defense were at maximum. Snorlax only had two attacks, both physical, and his Amnesia does nothing to slow down Rollout.
--Venusaur in. Hyper Potion for Krebbs, then Rollout.
--Then I had Krebbs in there against Blastoise, but Blizzard knocked him out with a critical hit on the first turn. NOOOOO!! Switched in Maestro. A Thunder Punch took Blastoise down to just below half health, and Blastoise used Rain Dance (powering up for Surf, but too late). One more Thunder Punch and WIN!

CHALLENGE COMPLETED

Never used Rollout hardly at all before this run, but combined with Curse against the right opponents (weak offensively to grass/psychic and/or specializing in physical moves so I had time to power up) it got me through a lot of opponents which would have otherwise been impossible since my team focused mostly on special attack, as is common with Psychic types.

I'm also surprised at how little I used Maestro in the final battle compared to the rest of the game. Krebbs took down 4 out of 6 and I only started using him after the E4.

Final Party
  • Maestro: L65 Alakazam (Psychic, Ice Punch, Thunderpunch, Recover)
  • Tsunami: L67 Starmie (Psychic, Return, Surf, Recover)
  • Krebbs: L63 Exeggutor (Psychic, Rollout, Curse, Hypnosis)

Slaves: Xatu (Fly, Flash), extra Staryu (Waterfall, Whirlpool), Cyndaquil (Cut)

I'm thinking about starting another one in a little while, maybe ground (Nido's, Donphan, Steelix), bug (never ever used a bug seriously but Heracross looks SWEET) or electric (Magneton/Lanturn/Ampharos sounds like fun). Does anyone have a recommendation? Maybe a seldom-used pokemon you trained for a while and fell in love with?

mondays suck October 7th, 2009 12:03 PM

Well, i'm using Girafarig in my Normal Ultimate Monotype Challenge and i must say, that thing is a beast. But since you just finished a Psychic run, you probably won't want to use Girafarig now...
Can't think of any other one right now, i'm too tired

Hey, can I join with Flying? I'm going to do it on Silver!
EDIT: I decided to play on Crystal.
EDIT2: Decided to play it on Silver, so that I can play it on my PSP.

Added both of you to the participants list. Good luck.

Changed the layout of the first post slightly, otherwise the Hall of Fame would have needed too much space in the long run.

I already said i was planning on an Unown Team in another thread, and here it is: My 6 Unown Team, which is a Mono Psychic in some way.

Started a game in Crystal, chose Cyndaquil, my first 2 battles were serious defeats, first i lost to my rival, then to the Youngster with the Pidgey and the Rattata, maybe i should have trained Cyndaquil a bit...
Sneaked past all other trainers, arrived at Violet and solved the Kabuto Puzzle. Caught 6 Unowns by soft resetting. The last HP type, Water, took me pretty much as long as all others together, i had a lot of bad luck there.

But here is my Unown-only-Team, i'm pretty sure it will be completely destroyed by Whitney, Morty or at least the Elite 4 =D

Didnt find the GSC sprites, so i've to use newer ones.

w00t mondays suck you really are up to a challenge !
at the duospecies 3rd gen , i am just at Brawly in Emerald and you finished in FR....
Man you really have skills for playing ^_^

mondays suck October 10th, 2009 12:07 PM

Well, at the douspecies challenge i was abusing that Speedincrease thing a lot (as i always do), so it wasn't that hard to finish. And both my Pokemon were pretty powerful, i didn't use a Pidgey and a Metapod.
Maybe i do have skills for playing, but maybe i'm just having too much free time =D

______________

Did Sprout Tower, beat Falkner, beat Rockets, got completely owned by Bugsy's Scyther, but the rival was pretty easy. Obtained Cut. Grinded to level 15. Finally Beat Bugsy using Rock Unown.
Now where i advanced a bit in the game, there are already some clear tendences showing. As i expected, Psychic Unown has taken over a leading role, since it has a STAB bonus AND seems to have a good Base Power. Grass Unown seems to have a pretty high base Power too, it does quite a lot to Zubats, even though they 4x resist Grass.. Fighting Unown is probably the weakest, but maybe it's only seeming like Fighting Unown is weak because many Pokemon you meet early on in G/S/C resist Fighting.

FireRed Supergiant October 10th, 2009 8:08 PM

good luck, mondays suck. actually I worked with basically the same thing on my psychic run up through whitney's gym (see my other posts on this page). overlevel your unown with the fighting-type hidden power before challenging her, and it really won't be that bad as long as you are faster than her miltank. also watch out for the trainer in her gym that uses two meowth, its "bite" will really hurt you.

but yeah, morty will be seriously tough. i had to go crazy on training the alakazam i caught before i could take him. will be much tougher without allowing yourself that kind of luxury.

Zeffy October 11th, 2009 3:01 AM

I thought my I'd play for hours, but I didn't :(

  • Grinded HOPPIP to Lv. 10
  • Saved

I'll put my party later, I kinda forgot.

mondays suck October 11th, 2009 3:29 AM

Thanks, luck, that's exactly what i'll need....

Well, i reached Goldenrod, gave my Unowns some stupid nicknames so i can distinguish them better. Replaced my Water Unown by another Water Unown, because my first Water Unown's Hidden Power had a horrible Base Power, i didnt notice that before because i only used it against Geodudes, Onixes and Sandshrews. Grinded to Level 22 and attempted Whitney.
Started off with Hippie, the Grass Unown, it has a pretty high Base Power and i wanted to save my Fighting Unown for later. Clefairy was piece of Cake. A crit did even 2/3 to Miltank. Hippie died, and many others of my team died too, i hate Rollout. Hydrant the Water Unown did some damage, but not much. At the end, only Psychopath the Psychic Unown was left. I was lucky that Rollout missed and HP Psychic did enough damage to kill Miltank.
http://i34.*.com/25rl7dg_th.png
Sudowoodo will be the next miniboss, it won't be that hard, since Grass is one of my better Unowns.

Team:
:t201-d: Barbarian / Fighting Unown Lv. 22
:t201-j: Hippie / Grass Unown Lv. 22 @ Miracle Seed
:t201-b: Rockstar / Rock Unown Lv. 22
:t201-g: Polaris / Ice Unown Lv. 22
:t201-k: Psychopath / Psychic Unown Lv. 22
:t201-h: Hydrant / Water Unown Lv. 22

UPDATE:
Sudowoodo wasn't much of a problem, Hippie 2HKOd it and even the Eeveelution Girls were not that hard, not even Umbreon. Rival was easy anyway, since my team is ironically a lot better against well-balanced teams than against monotype teams.
But that wasn't everything, i was even already having the opportunity to say something like:
"Im so awesome, i beat Morty", in fact took me only 2 Attempts and that at level 26!
On my first attempt i wanted to get rid of the Gastly and the first Haunter with Psychopath, but Psychopath got paralyzed and KOd by Gengar. Rest of the team was helpless against Shadow Ball, but it didn't OHKO my other Unowns that were at full HP.
Second attempt: Started with Hydrant, which also managed to kill Gastly and Haunter, and also fainted against Gengar. Psychopath came in, survived, got a crit. Gengar had a minimum of HP left, Rockstar defeated it. The second Haunter killed Rockstar, killed Polaris and had maybe 1/3 or 1/4 left. I switched in Barbarian, hoping that that thing was stupid and uses Curse, which did of course not happen (but at least i felt better than if my last Pokemon would have been Barbarian). But Hippie, my last Unown, managed to defeat Haunter somehow, even though Haunter resists Grass.
That battle was a lot easier than i would have ever dreamed of (ok, ok, i got extremely lucky with that crit, again, but...). Hopefully Karen will be similary easy, but i'm pretty sure that won't happen...
Unowns are all level 26, Hippie is 27, it was already almost 27 when i challenged Morty.

I attempted Chuck with my Unowns in the high 20s and lost. Went back to the ruins and catched a new Ice and Fighting Unown, the old ones were too weak. The new Barbarian is definetely better, about the new Polaris, i don't know, didn't use it a lot yet.

:t201-e: Barbarian / Fighting Unown Lv. 15
:t201-w: Polaris / Ice Unown Lv. 11
:t061: Slave / Poliwhirl Lv. 25

Yes, i did unlock more Unown forms, for more diversity in the team
But i failed to solve the Charizard puzzle, maybe i'll try again later

_______________________

That thing i thought of to be a Charizard turned out to be Omanyte, no wonder i couldn't solve it. But i'm pretty sure some years ago i read that the puzzles show Kabuto, Aerodactyl, Ho-oh and Charizard...
Caught two more Unowns afterwards, another Ice one (but the second one turned ot to be the best), and a new Rock Unown (that has the same form like the old one), old Rockstar was pretty decent, but the new one is slightly better. Did a lot of grinding. Beat Chuck, he was easy with the new, better Unowns. Probably i'm gonna find a new Psychopath too, since, with STAB, it only does slightly more than Hippie or Barbarian, the strongest ones, on a neutral hit. Beat Red Gyarados (After 2 Dragon Rages Rockstar had 1 HP left, whew...), beat Rockets (the Murkrow wasn't able to cause problems, either Rockstar or Polaris OHKOd it.) and beat Pryce, with ease, since he is probably the weakest gym leader ever. Saved.
Both battles were not as epic as the ones above, so no screenshots.

Team:
:t201-j: Hippie / Grass Unown Lv. 35 @ Miracle Seed
:t201-k: Psychopath / Psychic Unown Lv. 34 @ Quick Claw
:t201-h: Hydrant / Water Unown Lv. 32 @ Mystic Water
:t201-e: Barbarian / Fighting Unown Lv. 34
:t201-w: Polaris / Ice Unown Lv. 32
:t201-b: Rockstar / Rock Unown Lv. 33
:t061: Slave / Poliwhirl Lv. 25

OMG Jasmine was so easy, Barbarian OHKOd both Magnemites, took of 2/3 of Steelix HP (one normal hit, one crit), died, Hydrant came in and destroyed the weakened Steelix. ...and with balanced teams i was always having huge problems with her, why?
http://i34.*.com/243l0er_th.png

Still no one? Well, i beat my rival in Goldenrod now. I have already been at Blackthorne and defeating trainers on that annoying Route south of Blackthorne. Caught a new Psychic Unown and it's incredibly powerful, the base power must be around 70, otherwise it wouldn't have been able to OHKO a level 7 Bellsprout at Level 5, at least if my calculations are right. New Psychopath had no problems with the Koffing guy, but my rival's Golbat and Haunter completely destroyed my Unown team, at the end only Rockstar was left, survived with low HP and it defeated Haunter. I'm already asking myself how long i will have to grind to defeat that guy with the Houndoom...
UPDATE: The Houndoom needed some attempts to be beaten, but with Quick Claw on Barbarian and Hydrant surviving one attack, i was able to defeat it.
Before entering Clair's gym, i first grinded to level 40. Beat the underlingas quite easily, mostly using Polaris and Hippie, but i needed 3 attempts for Clair herself. Polaris was able to take of the first two Dragonairs, against the third one, i sent out either Rockstar or Barbarian, since the other two are resisted and i needed Psychopath against Kingdra since it's my best damage dealer. At the end of both of the first two attempts, Kingdra had just maybe 5% HP left, in the 3rd attempt, i had maybe one attack less missing, or a Hyper Beam from Kingdra missing, i'm not really sure about that, but i won. Next i'll have to decide who i'm going to deposit for they way to the Indigo Plateau, since i'll need my Slave to get there. Probably i'll deposit Hydrant for that time, since there are a lot of water trainers on the way, and it doesnt cover any of my rivals Pokemon (argh, i'll meet that annoying Golbat and Haunter AGAIN....)

:t201-w: Polaris / Ice Unown Lv. 40 @ NeverMeltIce

:t201-g: Psychopath / Psychic Unown Lv. 40 @ Quick Claw
(:t061: Slave / Poliwhirl Lv. 25)

I think my team can stay like this now, all my current Unowns have Powers between quite decent and extremely good

And yes, i know that the Blackbelt and Hard Stone items are not 'legit' and i changed to date to obtain them, but i wasn't in the mood of waiting to get them

I heard that I needed to post here and not in the other monotype topic, so here it is:

I would like to join the flying challenge on crystal

Edit:

first update:

Started on crystal
Chose a boy
Named it Daan
Rival name: Mike

~ Sarted with totodile
~ cathed hoothoot lvl. 3 (stupid clock, I want a pidgey)
~ deposited totodile
~ cathed zubat
~ continued journey like normal while training pokemon
~ Beat falker

Team ATM:

Pretty bad team off course, especially the zubat which is pretty much useless at this point, however, it is a start.

also, this is my first challenge so I hope you guys can help me out if I'm doing anything wrong.

nothing special yet ofcourse but update 2 will be at the end of today.

mondays suck October 13th, 2009 1:01 AM

I can't see anything you're doing wrong, but i recommend you to use a Hoppip (in case you didn't already plan to use one, but were not able yet because it was night), it might be a pain to train, but Leech Seed + Sleep Power does REALLY help in important battles, for example against the Steelix.

_____

I'm planning to replace my Water Unown by something else, it doesn't cover anything others don't cover.

Normal: Fighting
Fire: Rock, Water
Water: Grass
Electric: -
Grass: Ice
Ice: Rock, Fighting
Fighting: Psychic
Poison: Psychic
Ground: Water, Grass, Ice
Flying: Rock, Ice
Psychic: -
Bug: Rock
Rock: Water, Grass, Fighting
Ghost: -
Dragon: Ice
Dark: Fighting
Steel: Fighting

An Unown with Hidden Power Ghost would be the one that covers most of the types i can't hit super-effective yet, but that thing would be a real pain to train since Normal types are so common....
And Water would help agaist the Houndoom, but apart from that it doesn't anything...

I want to start a Water-type challenge, but I have a question about evolution rules.

I want to have a Feraligatr that knows Crunch. I have a male Pupitar which knows the move in another game, ready to go. Can I trade it in for breeding purposes when I get to Goldenrod? I obviously won't be using it for battles.

mondays suck October 13th, 2009 5:46 AM

Sure your Feraligatr won't be a bit overpowered when you already get Crunch at Goldenrod?
I don't mind if you trade that Pupitar, so have fun with your Crunchaligatr

UPDATE: I finally beat the Elite 4! And to show the whole world how awesome even Unowns can be, i recorded the battles and uploaded them =D
Grinded to level 55 before i entered Will's room.
My new Ghost Unown, Spiritus, destroyed his team.
Koga was harder, Forretress just didn't want to die, but against Crobat i was lucky and didn't miss too much
Bruno was easy too, only Machamp survived one hit from Psychopath.
Even Karen wasn't too hard, Rockstar outspeeded Houndoom and survived a Crunch.
Polaris KOd Lance's first 2 Dragonites, Rockstar did the rest.

I just beat Blue. Everything in Kanto was pretty easy, except for Arcanine, which gave me some trouble, but somehow i managed to beat it. Talked to Oak, so i can access Mt. Silver now, but i'm pretty sure i'll need A LOT of grinding before, Snorlax is just too powerful...

Team:
:t201-j: Hippie / Grass Unown Lv. 61 @ Miracle Seed
:t201-e: Barbarian / Fighting Unown Lv. 58 @ Blackbelt
:t201-w: Polaris / Ice Unown Lv. 60 @ NeverMeltIce

(:t061: Slave / Poliwhirl Lv. 25)
(:t155: Cyndaquil Lv. 6)
[email protected] Leftovers, probably i should better get back the Quick Claw...
And Barbarian isn't underleveled because it's weak (in fact it's one of the strongest Unowns), it's just that Psychic, Flying and especially Poison types are EVERYWHERE in Kanto...

FireRed Supergiant October 15th, 2009 2:01 PM

Went south of Violet City
Cleared Union Cave
Contacted Kurt
Cleared Slowpoke Well
Defeated Gym #2: Bugsy
Defeated Rival before Ilex Forest

I completely forgot about the Rival battle. It’s really hard to beat a Bayleef knowing razor blade when your only strong pokemon’s only non-water attack is freaking double-slap. Hypnosis plus some luck saved the day.

Current Team
--Sheik: L23 Poliwag (Water Gun, Hypnosis, Bubble, Double-slap)
--L11 Totodile (Scratch, Leer, Rage)

In Ilex Forest, retrieved Farfetch’d
Received Cut, taught it to Totodile
Back to Ilex, received Headbutt, taught it to Sheik
Cleared Ilex Forest
Received Odd Egg (PS: I’m playing Crystal)
Back to Ilex, captured a Paras for trade bait
Traded Paras for an out-of-game male Pupitar knowing Crunch
Bred Pupitar with Totodile, hatched the egg
Named new Totodile “Jason X”

Um…wow. I forgot that Pupitar knew lots of other moves that could be inherited by Totodile. Basically, I’m sitting on a L5 Totodile with the following moveset

  • Leer
  • Crunch
  • Rock Slide
  • Thrash

As for the plan of not using wildly upgraded movesets until after beating Morty, that still stands. I’ll use the original Totodile and just keep Jason X in my back pocket until then, and continue to let Sheik continue his bull rush rampage through the hapless game trainers.

Evolved Sheik into Poliwhirl
Beat Gym #3: Whitney (really easy, just used Rain Dance and Water Gun)

mondays suck October 16th, 2009 3:47 AM

I just attempted Red without doing any grinding before, for fun and to see who causes problems to my team. And i won. Even though my strategy was pretty lame.
Pikachu was a bit annoying because it never missed with Thunder and Red used like 3 Full Restores on it, but it went down after some time. Espoen was more annoying, surprisingly it was able to 2HKO all my Unowns, which means OHKO after a revive. But Spiritus had a slight chance to survive by 1 HP, which saved the day for me. Snorlax was easy. I used an X-Defend on Barbarian, and stalled it by using Hyper Potions till Body Slam was out of PP. Healed my entire team while Snorlax spammed Amnesia and then finished it off. Charizard was annyoing, i had to use my only Max Revive here, so Rockstar could live a Flamethrower (by 1 HP and with a Burn) and finish Charizard off. Blastoise used Rain Dance and swept, but when the rain stopped, Hippie killed it with ease. Venusaur wasn't hard at all, i just attacked while it loaded the Solarbeam and revived when it fired it. I recorded the battle, and because i was already expecting the file would become too big to open it, i recorded 3 parts, but the first one was still too big, so all i can post is screenshots.
Spoiler:

http://i34.*.com/rk6ezp.jpg
The in-battle screenshots are that big because i had to make them while watching the battle's video. Final Team is same like in the last post, just Barbarian gained a level.

FireRed Supergiant October 16th, 2009 6:29 PM

VERY impressive, Mondays. i'm not smart enough to even know that the opponent loses PP on moves, so I never would have won that fight on account of monetary stinginess. I think I had one experience (might have even been back in RBY) when an opponent used a move more times than it had PP for, and from then on i just assumed the NPC opponents weren't subject to that restriction. but hey, good to know!

Anyway, to continue from last time...

Evolved Sheik into Poliwhirl
Beat Gym #3: Whitney (very easy, just used Rain Dance and Water Gun)
Nicknamed original Totodile "BreedBait"

North to Sudowoodo, back to Goldenrod for SquirtBottle, back to Sudowoodo
Defeated Sudowoodo
Arrived at Ecruteak
Leveled up original Totodile (now Croconaw) to L28
Defeated Kimono Girls, received HM03
Defeated Gym #4: Morty
Went east of Ecruteak, got Tully’s phone number (waiting for water stone)
Regressed to south of Violet City, trained Jason X (new Totodile) to L25
Cleared routes b/w Ecruteak and Olivine
At Olivine, received Good Rod and HM04
Went back to New Bark Town
Caught Chinchou, nicknamed it “Casper”
Cleared Sprout Tower, received HM05

Current Team
  • Jason X: L30 Croconaw (Surf, Crunch, Rock Slide, Thrash)
  • Sheik: L30 Poliwhirl (Headbutt, Rock Smash, Rain Dance, Water Gun)
  • Casper: L20 Chinchou (Water Gun, Flail, Supersonic, Thunder Wave)
  • BreedBait: L28 Croconaw (Cut, Leer, Scary Face, Bite)

BreedBait won’t be on my competition team, but he will be a handy cut slave, at least for now. I’m thinking about potentially dropping any HM slaves and just using four battlers who happen to know all the out-of-battle moves. Surf for the Kingdra I’m planning on, Waterfall/Whirlpool/Flash for Lanturn, Cut for Feraligatr, Strength/Headbutt/Rock Smash for Poliwrath. A problem is that would leave me without a slot for Thunder Wave on Casper since I want him knowing an offensive electric move. But I guess if I make it Spark, that’s pretty good anyway. Plus, I have DragonBreath planned for Kingdra and that has a 30% chance to paralyze. I guess I’ll have to see how battles go, and if things need revamping I’ll do it when I need it.

Evolved Chinchou into Lanturn and taught it Surf
Went to Cianwood
Saw Suicune, defeated Eusine

mondays suck October 17th, 2009 12:42 AM

In RBY the AI does in fact have infinite PP, i remember Giovanni's Rhydon using EQ like 20 times against me, but in GSC and later, they changed that, which makes such unfair strategies possible

:3 October 17th, 2009 3:19 PM

Mind if I try a bug type challenge on Crystal?

    http://i38.*.com/5e5nac.jpg
    As I am with yours.

  • Wow. That was really really easy. No Wonder Whitney Spams Rollout!
  • Scyther was at a reasonable level to evolve, So traded to another crystal, then traded back. Scizor!
  • Trained at bit, then made my way to Ice path. Made it to blackthorn.
  • Forgot Noctowl so was forced to go all the way down to Cherrygrove. Got Noctowl then flew back to Blackthorn.
  • Completley forgot what to do, considering there's a guy blocking the gym.
  • Read an online walk through, and flew back to Goldenrod to take care of some rockets.
  • Beat the Executive, so off to the underground I go, ??? suddenly showed up and demanded a battle.

    http://i35.*.com/2rosrvp.jpg
    Maybe you suck.. /:

  • Got through and saw the Director, gave me the Card key so I went back to the Radio Tower, beat the Exec's and got the Clear Bell.
  • Went to the Daycare, picked up an egg. Later hatched into a Pichu knowing Dizzy punch.
  • Deposited Pichu, and went back to Blackthorn. That man was no longer blocking the Door, so I entered.
  • Beat Claire, easily, but that may be because my pokemon are over-leveled. Went to Dragon Den, passed, and got an Extreme speed Dratini.

    http://i38.*.com/6qxnjo.jpg
    I guess so..

  • Got a call from Elm, Took out Gyrados and taught it Surf and Waterfall, and made my way back to New Bark town on Noctowl.
  • Went back to Ecruteak city and made it to Tin Tower and battled and caught Suicune in a great ball.
  • Flew back to New Bark and surfed across route 27. Got kanto map and made my way through Tohjo falls.
  • Made it to Victory Road, Silver decided to show up for a battle, and I won.

    http://i33.*.com/16kq1j7.jpg
    Oh poo.

  • Made it to the Elite Four, My pokemon are leveled rather High, So I might not lose.
  • Bought some Hyper Potions, and made my way to battle Will.. Heracross and Ariados lost pretty quickly, but Scizor and his Steel Wing won it for me.

    http://i36.*.com/2pte2o3.jpg
    Me neither.

  • Now on to Koga, who I'm pretty sure Venomoth can handle.. Venomoth took down all until his Forretress used Explosion, so Scizor stepped in and won.

    http://i33.*.com/11vqyqx.jpg
    Sure have.

  • Time for Bruno, which Venomoth's Gust or Psybeam should be able to handle, But I really should have taught him Psychic.. Just as I thought, Venomoth was the perfect pokemon to take on Koga.

    http://i35.*.com/dyumi0.jpg
    iknorite?!

  • On to Karen! I thoght Heracross' Fury Cutter or Ariados' Leech Life would do good, but No. Houndoom took em' all down.. But a speedy Venomoth again won it for me.

    http://i34.*.com/67jy4w.jpg
    Oh you..

  • Now for the Champion. I won! I used Agility on Scizor then Steel Wing on Gyarados and Charizard but got tooken out. By luck, his Charizards flamethrower didn't OHKO Venomoth and a last minute Psybeam took him down. The rest all goes to Forretress who's Rollout won it for me.

    http://i36.*.com/2eevhx4.jpg
    9000..?

  • Became champion, forgot to take a screenshot because I thought it would show all pokemon like in Fire red/leaf green, Saved game and quit. Sleep.

Well, yes, the purpose of this post is to bump this thread, since atm no one cares about good old GSC, everyone is into HGSS...

Maybe i'll do this again, but i won't even try to make this as spectacular as the Unown thing... I'll take Dark, and i'll trade me a Murkrow Egg, then get Eevee at Goldenrod, later catch a Sneasel at Ice Path and more later catch a Houndour. Maybe i'll raise a Tyranitar as well if i need the power against Red (and because Tar is awesome)

Exon November 5th, 2009 2:46 PM

I'd like to do Crystal w/ Psychic.

i'd like to switch from ground to normal if that's cool. i sort of "misplaced" my save file.

or deleted it...

Lostworld November 5th, 2009 5:55 PM

I'm going to try Normal monotype challenge on my Crystal version. I'll start this afternoon, school's finally finished for the year! :D

syphilis November 5th, 2009 7:19 PM

ok, so i got me a cyndaquil to start, but caught a sentret (Fancy!) and a rattata (Classy!) soon after
i then did some extreme grinding to get Fancy! to evolve, which he did. Classy! did not.
the egg i had previously received from the the aide hatched into a togepi (Pii). this caught me off guard.
i taught Pii head-butt and abused it relentlessly until it evolved.
as it loved me a great deal, i took it to the woman who gives you return if the first pokemon in your party loves you. i got return.
i caught a tauros (Tatonka) and a miltank (Hottie) and trained them on stantlers for a while.
sadly, i was forced to box Classy!
after obtaining surf and teaching it to Fancy!, i surfed to mahogany and caught a Girafarig (Palindrome).
Fancy! was put into retirement.

OK, added everyone
____
Started on Gold (which is pretty dumb because i can get Sneasel in Ice Path there, but three Crystal files at once would be a bit too much...), chose Chikorita because it does good as a HM Slave, lost to rival, caught a Pidgey and traded me a Murkrow egg (accidentally for the Chikorita, but that doesn't matter that much). Hatched it, named it Krow (here i prove my incredible creativity again). Did Sprout Tower, beat Falkner (Krow OHKOd Pidgeotto =D)

i beat lots of gyms and gained lots of levels. but i was unsatisfied, so i decided to train more in the little patch of grass before ice path where there are many grass pokemon and lickitungs. during my training, i came across a lickitung that didn't look like the other ones i had been destroying, and i finally realized it was shiny. its coloring was kind of lame, but it was shiny nonetheless, so i caught it and decided to use it. its special attack is much better than that of Hottie's, so i named it Filthy and taught it ice punch. and then i beat the elite 4. i was sort of over leveled.

Began my journey w/ cyndaquil, and did all the intro work. After getting an egg, a pokedex, a new rival, and 5 free pokeballs I set out on my grand adventure. Just solo'ed with cyndaquil threw sprout tower. Cyndaquil evolved near the top, making falkner a peace of yummy cake. Made my way to the next area skipping the bridge of trainers so as to have something for my first challenge poke to level on. Made my way to kurt, and he (somehow) beat a rocket grunt allowing me to finally get the challenge started (YAY!)

Caught a slowpoke (decided not to name my pokes this run. I wanted to do some training so I went back to route 32 to train on the fishermen I had skipped. Afterward I headed to Bugsy's gym and swept the floor with my cursing slowpoke. (tho I did make a lot of PC runs to get PP back lol) Beat my pathetic rival again...(i hate lick right now...and bite...every damn thing has bite...) Chased a farfetch'd through a forest and was rewarded w/ cut. Obtained a tm02 and 'butted out an eggy. Also caught a wild abra and a wild drowzee. Trained up until the 19-21 range before taking on the gym.
-time to shorten this-

-Beat rival again in tower, met eugene and my next gym victim
-beat gym
-beat kimono girls

actually, it was some luck that helped me win. i accidentally selected ice punch when fighting red's last pokemon, blastoise, with Filthy, but somehow, through the use of the mystical coding of the game, it froze blastoise and i then ruthlessly murdered it. and then i was congratulated for it by gamefreak.

Finally started the Normal monotype challenge.

Day One
Picked Totodile for a starter, did the run to Mr. Pokemon's house and beat rival and his Chikorita. I then caught a Pidgey and a Sentret, Falka and Scout respectively. Headed up to Violet City, on the way stopping in Dark Cave and catching Teddiursa, Delphi. Falkner was easily defeated with Falka's Gust attack.

Then heading towards Azalea Town, Scout was deposited in the box. She would be replaced by Togepi and maybe a Snubbull or a Jigglypuff. Bugsy and the rival went down easily. Then headed through Ilex Forest and up to Goldenrod City, catching a Snubbull, Kita.

Day Two
The Togepi egg finally hatched and I picked up the Odd Egg. Going to train the Pokemon into the twenties before taking on Whitney.

Team stands at:

i started the dark challenge, but i wasn't able to trade, so i gamesharked a houndour into the first route and caught it. it was actually weaker than the one i bred because the one i bred would've had flamethrower, and that's ridiculous.

i've done a LOT, so i'll just share the most important events.

- houndour (TheHounds!) evolved right after the battle with whitney.
- got an eevee (Lame) from bill and trained it to level 29. determined to get its happiness high enough so it would evolve at level 30 and i would get both bite and confuse ray, i walked around a lot. sort of anticlimactic.
- clair's dragonairs were taken down by Lame, and just to show how awesome TheHounds! was, she took out kingdra.
- i lost once the elite four (only using the healing items i had accumulated throughout the game), so the second time i bought a couple full restores. Lame lived up to its name and died mid-way through, so TheHounds! had to take out the last of the elite four (whatever her name is) and lance. and somehow, that happened.

EDIT:

i actually just beat red and stuff. i didn't think i'd beat him because i only had sneasel left and he had venusaur and espeon, but venusaur kept using solar beam, so would use dig to dodge it, and it eventually died. espeon couldn't do anything but swift, and it didn't do much damage, so i slashed it a couple times and it went down.

FINAL Team:

Final Party (and a little blurb on each of them):
Marcianohttp://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/107.png
Hitmonchan (M) @ Dire Hit | :L42
~ Thunderpunch
~ Ice Punch
~ Mach Punch
~ Strength

Marciano was definitely one of my most used Pokeymanz through the Elite Four, he was, along with Trinidad, one of my only two Pokémon still alive after beating Karen. He is probably the reason to why I had such a swift victory over Lance since he made quick work of that damn Gyarados :D.
Trinidadhttp://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/106.png
Hitmonlee (M) @ Amulet Coin | :L42
~ Mind Reader
~ Dynamic Punch
~ Strength
~ Hi Jump Kick

Another of my 'most used' lately, Trinidad singlehandedly destroyed Bruno. He was also one of my two Pokémons still alive after facing Karen (along with Marciano), and did a great job assisting Margarito in the final showdown against Lance.
Canelohttp://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/237.png
Hitmontop (M) @ Pink Bow | :L43
~ Headbutt
~ Detect
~ Strength
~ Counter

I'm sadly dissapointed in Canelo as a matter of fact. Since I got Trinidad and Marciano he's really taken a backseat to them. He helped cripple Bruno's team, but was unable to defeat anyone :(.
Princesahttp://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plffa/214.png
Heracross (F) @ Quick Claw | :L41
~ Leer
~ Horn Attack
~ Take Down
~ Counter

Another Pokémon who's taken a backseat to the 'new guys', Princesa WAS, however, really helpful in dispatching of Ariados and Venomoth in Koga's team. Sadly however, I got her killed :nervous:, sorry Princesa.
Margaritohttp://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/61.png
Poliwhirl (M) @ Smoke Bomb | :L48
~ Hypnosis
~ Belly Drum
~ Body Slam
~ Surf

And last but most definitely not least, this is the 'man' who deserves the medal of MVP in my team. Dispatching of any Pokeymanz who would've otherwise been a threat, Margarito set up, sweeped, and walled whatever it needed to do. Singlehandedly he beat Will (my greatest threat), and is responsible for carrying the team past Koga as well. He utterly destroyed Lance's three Dragonites, as well as his Charizard and Aerodactyl. Seriously, thank Arceus for Margarito's apparent 100% Accuracy on Hypnosis xD.
HM Slavehttp://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/83.png
Farfetch'd (F) @ --- | :L16
~ Cut
~ Sand-Attack
~ Leer
~ Fly

I know you might think that this guy was of no use, but she actually helped me avoid a Dig attack from Bruno's Hitmontop xD. Unfortunately, she wasn't prepared for the high level of fighting :(.

now, heading off to kanto :D

update #3
Spoiler:
and now i'm off to beat red (as if ¬¬)
  • iight, so i got the water stone for margarito (yes, he's finally a poliwrath)
  • collected every badge (and tm that comes along with it) in kanto except for blue's
  • beat the elite four two more times (the last time i got to rape will w/ princesa's megahorn) xP
  • beat blue
  • and that's about it... (i'd go into more detail, but i'm the only one posting anyways, so w/e :()

I really should check this thread more frequently....
So, maybe i'm a bit late, but i added you to the champions, congratulations!

BebbZ December 27th, 2009 11:28 AM

Ok, just have one question, about the trading for evolution.

If its a pokemon that requires an item + trade for evolution, are we required to play to where we get that item on our monotype, or can we use the item from another game?

mondays suck December 27th, 2009 11:37 AM

I think the items should be acquired in the played game, not in another one. Just like you can't trade to give let's say a Growlithe a Fire Stone and trade the Arcanine back...

BebbZ December 27th, 2009 1:28 PM

Ah well, lemme think what type to do then, was gonna do steel, but would take forever to get a decent pokemon (e.g not foretress).

mondays suck December 27th, 2009 1:44 PM

It would be OK to use an Onix until you get to Ecruteak and then evolve it, somewhere there are wild Magnemites that have a 5% chance to hold a Metal Coat.

666 posts xD

Esp1222 December 27th, 2009 3:25 PM

This sounds good, I'll do this with ground types.

BebbZ December 27th, 2009 3:43 PM

Alright, put me down for Steel then.

Progress so far:
Made it to that cave where you get Onix
Fainted too many Onix's by mistake
Decided I wanted a female Onix
15 Onix's later and I accidently fainted all females
Found a nice female, but ran out of balls, so restocked :P
Glad I restocked because: Onix appeared: Omg it's shiny. - Caught Shiny Onix.
Taught Onix Mud-Slap (to beat Rivals Gastly)
Defeated Bugsy, no contest
Moved on to Goldenrod, beat gym, moved on again.
Went west of Ecruteak searching for Magnemites. (Hoping to find 2 metal coats for a Scizor and a Steelix).

Will catch a Scyther as soon as possible.

Current Team:
Onix, lv29 (Shiny)
Rage
Screech
Mud-Slap
Rock Throw

mondays suck December 28th, 2009 6:24 AM

Already the second shiny in this thread that fits its owner's type, incredible.
I have to continue, maybe I will also find a shiny Houndour or Sneasel.
Well, it's unlikely, but I have to continue regardless.

As I promised, here's finally my newest update:
I had saved at Mahagony, but didn't defeat team rocket there yet, so this was the first thing for me to do. As always, it took quite long, but was easy. And once again, I realized my bag was full when I was halfway through it. After TR was finally defeated, it was time to beat Pryce, the whole gym caused no trouble at all for Umbreon. Did Ice Path stuff and headed back to goldenrod, to beat Team Rocket once again. When they were finally defeated, I used Fly to get back to Blackthorn and defeated Clair with ease thanks to Murkrow's Icy Wind.

Team:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/08/Spr_2g_198.png
Krow / Murkrow m Lv.51 @ Nevermeltice
- Fly
- Return
- Faint Attack
- Icy Wind
Icy Wind gives nice coverage, but sadly I lost the ability to hit steels, Magnetons now cause some serious trouble.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/b/bc/Spr_2g_197.png
Overhyped / Umbreon m Lv.50 @ Amulet Coin
- Quick Attack
- Bite
- Sand Attack
- Return
I really need to work on this moveset, it's horrible.

BebbZ December 28th, 2009 8:53 AM

Finally caught a Magnemite with a Steel Coat...now have to get another one for a Scizor. Defeated next few gyms, and recorded my battle with Jasmine, purely because I used 2 lv30 Magnemites and a lv35 Steelix, same as her team. Her magnemites were better but Steelix fixed that problem.

Shouldnt take too long to finish this one now, any suggestions for another one to do? (Not bug, cos I already did this part during the ultimate monotype challenge)

mondays suck December 28th, 2009 8:58 AM

Maybe Dragon, no one has tried it yet. Or how about grass, they have a lot of disadvantages in Johto so it would probably be more challenging than other types...

BebbZ December 28th, 2009 2:21 PM

With Dragon I take it I'd be able to transfer a Dratini over, right?

Update on Steel Progress:

1/2 there, defeated Lance just now.

Used the same tactic against Elite Four that I did in my Bug Challenge (e.g overpower Scizor and run right through them with Swords Dance/Agility and Slash).

Planning to finish tomorrow, probably gonna keep soloing through with Scizor now...the only real challenges left are Red's Charizard and Blaine's gym.

Urwaldbewohner December 29th, 2009 6:51 AM

mondays suck December 29th, 2009 7:48 AM

I'll do a Houndoom solo challenge on Gold and Trade over a Level 5 newly hatched Houndour.

Update, started out, picked Totodile because if I remember, he learns the most HM's (he will be the HM Slave), beat rival, named him Silver, got Houndour at level 5, took him to Sprout Tower to smash everything, and easily beat Falkner

Team:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/3/38/Spr_2g_228.png Devildog Lvl 12
Leer
Ember
Roar

I usually never plan my moves and go on the fly, but with Houndour I will have to since he has so much weaknesses. So my planned final moveset for when he becomes a Houndoom is looking to be

Crunch
Flamethrower
Iron Tail
and probably Headbutt, but Return seems better in the long run

Does this sound good for a solo? And Crunch was Special Attack in Generation II right, it's pretty important since Houndour/Houndooms Special Attack is more than its regular Attack.

Double Update, went through Union Cave, it was pretty hard since all the pokemon went against my type except for Zubat, beat the Rockets, easily beat Bugly, demolished my rival Silver, went through Ilex Forest, beat all the trainers so Devildog can get some experience, Devildog evolved to Houndoom, easily annihilated Whitney to a big surprize, I took out her Clafary in one shot with a Critical Hit, then I only had to use Bite 2 times to take out her annoying Milktank

Team:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/3/39/Spr_2g_229.png Devildog Lvl 24
Leer (Will be replaced once I get Iron Tail)
Ember
Headbutt (Will get replaced with Return on Sunday when the lady comes)
Bite

ThwackX December 29th, 2009 11:03 PM

ThwackX would like to take up the challenge. I will use ROCK type pokemon, and im playing pokemon Gold.

batmon December 29th, 2009 11:30 PM

Triple update, got to Ekruteak City, beat my rival easily again, unlocked the dogs, beat Morty easily because I had Bite, got to Olivine, did lighthouse stuff, beat Jasmine first because she is weak against Ember I wasn't hit once, caught a Psyduck to be HM Slave #2, went to Cianwood crazy scared, battled Chuck, against him he didn't hit me either since he was flinching on Headbutt. So 6 Gym Leaders down, 2 more Johto ones to go.

Team:

Update, did Lake Of Rage stuff, helped Lance, beat Pryce without a challenge, an d now it's time to save the Radio Tower.

Would you prefer this to count as a Fire or a Dark type run?

You must have had some real bad luck, usually Sandshrew very common in Union Cave, except for Silver version, where it can be bought in the Goldenrod Game Corner.
Ah whatever, changed you to grass.
