i think that if you picked a girl it should have been Leaf instead of Red.

Cannon? Theres really no intended storyline to these games, oh Im sorry FR/LG(R/G/B) to HG/SS(G/S/C). But even then there really isnt much of a story to even consider a Cannon-ness to it.

Obviously they couldn't make it so that both Red and Leaf did the exact same thing, as it's implied in the story that one solo person beat everything. Because male was always the only gender before Crystal, it makes sense that the story is more male-dominated, though I still think Leaf could have been included in some form. Imo it would have made more sense to say Leaf did some things and Red did others, or like Crashman said and make it Red if you play as Hibiki and Leaf if you play as Kotone. But I don't think it makes it less canon that they chose it to only be Red, just less inclusive.

As for the Ho-Oh/Lugia thing, I think the Kimono Girl thing is "more canon" (if there even is such a thing lol), and it doesn't necessarily invalidate the old procedure, since it could be that the Kimono Girls danced in their own theater or something (hey, it's plausible :P), or it's just an extra step. Idk, I don't think adding things invalidates the old canon, the only thing that does is removing old things.

The stories are canon? I didn't know there was anything that could be canon. XD I never really thought of it like that...

But, um, I suppose the remakes aren't very "canon" at all, though the Kimono Girls plot sounds rather cute.

Exactly what I was thinking, it kind of seems a bit stereotypical/sexist that it was all Men/Red from the start of pokemon (excluding Cynthia).

These games practically establish that the FR/LG female character isn't involved in the storyline at all. Who wants to think that's canon? (It wasn't her who thwarted Team Rocket, it was all Red. It wasn't her that beat the League after kicking Green's butt - that was Red. Etc.)

First of all, it's because the male character was the only original character in the games in the past, and they didn't want to change that.
Second of all, it's because Red is the character atop Mt.Silver, and not Leaf.
It was always said one person alone took out the whole of Team Rocket, and you don't expect them to newly make two versions of the girl and boy together for us to choose from, do you?
I hope that clears it up.

The Kimono Girls, as soon as Lugia or Ho-Oh are sighted, will go to the tower or the islands where they've landed, and perform a dance. This happens in the relevant game version - Ho-Oh is summoned in HeartGold, Lugia is summoned in SoulSilver. The dance is a Japanese-like dance.

Which seemed more canon?

If you want a generalized and logical opinion, then I say it's the Ho-oh's one that seems more canon and makes more sense.

However, when it comes to my true opinion, none of them felt any canon to me.
Moreover, though just my opinion probably, I hated the idea of implementing this scene or plot device...

I'll tell you what happened in my case...
I was heading to the bottom of the Whirl Islands, and the darkness was bothering me since I didn't teach anyone flash.
SUDDENLY, this sage shows up, making me pretty disappointed because it doesn't seem realistic to me that a sage is just standing in a deep dark cave, and somehow managed to cross the big bad sea and the vicious whirlpool.
But then I thought, let's forget it. It's forgettable anyways, and I don't think I'll let a single sage ruin my feel for the story.
Then is where the worse part showed up. I went deep down whirl Islands, and guess who shows up there to mess up the whole "tough to reach" feel? The five Kimono Girls...
My experience for the whole story was shattered when they started dancing and doing what they were...

At least them climbing up a tower in their own city doesn't seem unrealistic for God' sake.
But even then, I don't want them to ruin the tough to do or the legendary feeling anywhere of the two places...
