Do you Like To TLDR?

Well, do you like to write extremely, long, paragraphs for your posts?
Does it depend on the section? Or do you just like your post count to go up if it is a really long post?

Signomi September 26th, 2009 4:30 AM

I don't have the "SHUT UP!" emblem for nothing. XD; I love typing walls of text in most posts, conversation-wise only to certain people who I know I can enjoy a deep and meaningful conversation with; for instance, I do this on a daily basis with my pair. He and I can type wall after wall after wall and it's really captivating when you're very taken in by a conversation.

Guillermo September 26th, 2009 5:18 AM

Hardly. Only time I'll ever tl;dr is when I'm helping a friend with something or stating something I believe in.

s0nido September 26th, 2009 5:31 AM

I only write walls of text when I'm in a rant mood or when someone provokes me with an interesting topic. Most of the time, I post in OVP, and there aren't many threads that would incite discussion here. If there is a topic which I would want to type a wall of text on, then I would do so merrily. But most of the time, I write a few lines worth of text.

ShinjisLover September 26th, 2009 5:43 AM

Sometimes I make long posts, usually because I analyze things in the Pokémon General section. Other times, I like to make readable posts. I fluctuate, I suppose.

When I'm in a ranting mood, though, I don't stop typing. Especially considering that I like to ramble and I do so very well. XD But it's not too often I make tl;dr (too lazy; didn't read) posts. Just sometimes.

Cherrim September 26th, 2009 8:54 AM

I used to be the King of TL;DR on PC, seriously. :( I was known for my ridiculously long posts almost anywhere I posted. (If it was less than two paragraphs, it was a short post.)

Now? I know how freaking annoying it is to read so many words and I try to be more concise. If I can't get my point across in a decently sized post, I won't bother sending the reply.

Harmonie September 26th, 2009 9:33 AM

I do like to make ridiculously long posts.

It's just the fact about me that I overly complicate things... And that leads to long posts on things that are very short posts from others.

Bay September 26th, 2009 9:50 AM

I don't usually make TLDR posts since I like to get the point across. However, if there's a discussion that's interesting, I would usually do those, but at the same time will try to not say the same thing over and over.

X-626 September 26th, 2009 11:21 AM

I normally don't write long posts. I have written a few, but it was needed for me to get my point across. I do like to tl;dr when it comes to IMs, though.

Ivysaur September 26th, 2009 12:18 PM

My posts are usually one or two liners, unless I do have a lot of things to do, then I might even hit 5 lines.

So yeah, not a tl;dr person XD

Citrinin September 26th, 2009 2:45 PM

I'm not usually a tl;dr person, except in sections where it warrants it, like reviewing a fanfiction, website, or in writing. :P

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ September 26th, 2009 3:14 PM

They should make a emblem for the shortest text then I would get that one for sure
But I really don't like typing so much for one simple question, this isn't my AP English class so why put so much effort onto a post for?

:t354:TG

Caelus September 26th, 2009 3:22 PM

As far as I know I have only made few posts that can qualify as tl;dr.
I guess I don't have much to say.

My VMs, on the other hand, are usually longer and I'm sure several of them can qualify as tl;dr. :D

Haza September 27th, 2009 1:54 AM

I dint think I have written too many terribly long posts here. i think when I want to and I feel like there whould be a wall of text when there isnt I just give up.

Jordan September 27th, 2009 6:04 AM

Used to; not anymore, k thanks.

Rokusasu September 27th, 2009 12:10 PM

Not really, unless I have lots to say. o:

(Not like now though. XD)

Wish September 27th, 2009 12:16 PM

The only thing worse than reading tl;dr is actually writing one.

So yeah, I'm too lazy to type tl;drs, Many of you should know that.

Her September 27th, 2009 12:44 PM

No, it's not that I don't like writing them but I never can find the emphasis to do so. I only ever tl;dr when I'm angry (usually it's nonsensical then) or when I'm trying to comfort someone, I've only made a few tl;drs on PC that were not related to any of the above. But I do like the outcome of it, knowing that I've made a decent contribution instead of a short one-liner. Not that theres anything wrong with those. XD

Spearow September 27th, 2009 2:14 PM

I tl;dr when I'm soapboxing which happens a lot sometimes.

otherwise it's nice to be brief. Actually I feel the 25-character-limit constrains me more often than not (though I'm not stupid enough to try and get around it).

Michii September 27th, 2009 2:17 PM

Do I think I make tl;dr posts? No. Do my friends tell me that I do? Always. I find that there has to be one person that will read a detailed post of mine. I like to be able to share as many things as I can in a post. To me, it's almost like how a child learns from their older sibling's mistakes. In posting a longer post, my goal is to share my experiences (good or bad) to everyone in hopes of at least one person being effected by it. Even something as simple as a story of how I began to love strawberries might make someone say "Hey, that's a cool story. Maybe if I try it again I'll like it too!" Posting for me is like gathering around the campfire and telling stories. The thread is the first and we're the people sitting around it. If you're going to tell your story, don't you want it to be the best that I can be?

It also helps that I type in size one. Nothing looks as long as it is. :ppp

Vigilante September 27th, 2009 6:01 PM

No, but it would be fun to write walls and walls of text. Although I can't, I always end up explaining something before I realize it. If I do ever write something is TLDR it will probably keep repeating itself.

Timbjerr September 27th, 2009 6:52 PM

I rarely make tl;dr posts because I think walls of text look intimidating to newbies and I am fully aware the by posting a wall of text, my post will most likely be ignored by the very same newbies that direct my post towards. Who makes walls of text anyways? It's like imagining that PC is a RL social gathering, the people that make walls of text are like the snobs that make long and boring rants that will sooner make you fall asleep than listen intently. In order to add an element of excitement and intrigue to your posts, you have to have a line break at some point or another so that your readers can stop and think for a second about what they just read and take the content of your post in short manageable sips instead of one huge swallow that is likely to have them choke to death on words...metaphorically speaking, of course. Is this paragraph long enough for the irony of this post to set in yet? I dunno, how about I just submit it and find out. XD

Vrai September 27th, 2009 6:54 PM

I totally just want to post here and only say "No". :3

..but that'd also be a lie.

michele September 27th, 2009 7:01 PM

i only write a lot if i have a lot to say ... usually.

Melody September 27th, 2009 11:28 PM

On occasion I do have a tl;dr post, and that's just my style. I tend to go on and on, letting my line of logic sort of establish the context and content of a post. Generally I just open with my answer and elaborate. I do try to line break from time to time to allow digesting of various parts.

That being said, I don't totally dislike tl;dr posts. To me, a tl;dr post is so much more than just a huge wall of text, it's generally a very 'OMG I'M A DRAMA QUEEN' sort of reply as well. Quite frankly, a post that is overreactionary in nature as well as being excessively long for the topic at hand. While I do try to be as concise as possible in my posts, in order to fully establish things, a little wordiness is quite necessary, in the name of avoiding any foreseeable misunderstanding.

Ru September 28th, 2009 7:11 AM

I tend to tr;dr myself, so it's not like I dislike it. However, when people tr;dr me: unless it's very important or it's of my interest, I usually just don't read it, or I skim through it. This usually happens when you're ranting to me and being a total drama queen about it, and I don't give a crap.

It all depends on the topic of the tr;dr really.

Yggdra September 28th, 2009 3:19 PM

Depends on the section/thread/etc.

For Roleplays, I, of course, HAVE to put in long posts if I can ever expect to get accepted/stay in them >.>

Other than that, my posts generally stay as short messages :3

Franceschi September 28th, 2009 3:31 PM

I don't particularly like to tl;dr because most of the time I just end up repeating myself over and over. But sometimes when it's needed and gets a good response, I do enjoy it - it feels like it's worth the effort. :>

TRIFORCE89 October 1st, 2009 3:59 PM

I hate seeing the term "tl;dr". I'll read whatever I want to read, thank you very much.

Honest October 1st, 2009 4:06 PM

I keep it short and simple, usualy. The only times I right long stuf is when I'm hosting something, like PC's Prettiest Profile Contest. Or when I'm talking to someone exceptionaly stupid. O_O

Lolz, JK

.little monster October 1st, 2009 4:10 PM

I just post short messages because I don't usually..say a lot. Unless I need to..then..yeah..

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ October 2nd, 2009 12:38 AM

Rarely do I feel the need to make long posts (fan fiction is a notable exception). But I will type up long posts if the situation warrants it.

bit.trip void October 2nd, 2009 1:31 AM

lolno

If it's over about two lines it's long for me ;D

Neko October 2nd, 2009 6:48 AM

I really think it depends on the type of post I am making, how much I have to say, what type of mood I'm in, etc. Though roleplays are an exception; I try to at least make three or more paragraphs for each roleplay post I make. :3

Aurafire October 2nd, 2009 6:50 AM

Only when I actually care about what the topic is. Otherwise I very rarely tl;dr.

Netto Azure October 2nd, 2009 3:39 PM

Oh TL;DR?

I still type those up when the topic appeals to me (Hence the SU Emblem)
But nowadays, QR OT posts are the way to go due to school. ;;

Lana. October 2nd, 2009 4:23 PM

Normally: I don't think so. My posts are usually a few lines or a medium-sized paragraph. There are certain subjects I can be long-winded on, but most of the time I keep it short and sweet. ^^

ÇyänïdëÉX October 2nd, 2009 6:13 PM

I have more to say verbally than i can type. I guess i suck at expressing myself through text.

doesn't matter October 2nd, 2009 7:53 PM

oh god, why are you using an acronym as a verb? It doesn't even make any sense: "Do you like to too long; didn't read?"

That said, whatever. I'll write how much I deem necessary when I feel like it.

Idiot! October 3rd, 2009 1:15 AM

I always emphasise on quality, not quantity. So whether it's a long post or a short one, the point can be seen quickly, with the point put forward.

Percy Thrillington October 3rd, 2009 3:14 AM

My posts can switch between one liners to, um, ten paragraphers? I don't always make huge posts, but when I deem it necessary and if I have the time, I'll do it.

♣Gawain♣ October 3rd, 2009 3:42 AM

I've always considered abnormally long and very specific-to the point posts in what they call "know-it-all", but...

No. But occasionally, if it's my kind of subject, I'll use long posts.

Sammi October 3rd, 2009 1:18 PM

I only write a really long post when I'm passionate about the subject and there's a lot of ground to cover, it seems. I try my best to keep it short, though, even in those situations. I don't really like to repeat myself.

Hiidoran October 3rd, 2009 9:03 PM

Thought I already posted in this thread. Mind must be playin' tricks on me.

I used to make long replies to every thread my little eyes happened to fall upon, but those days are well over with. It's not that I don't enjoy extrapolating, I just don't like dragging things out when they don't have to be.

That being said, I can still be a blabbermouth when the situation calls for it.
