So, is it a sandwich or cereal today?

At my house, nobody really cooks anything for breakfast or lunch, and as such, me and my siblings have to come up with our own recipes or have more PB&J. We are homeschooled, so this happens much more often than normal, but we've all been there, right?

So, my question is, what do you do for food when you gotta do it yourself? Any weird or unexpectedly good-tasting creations?

I suppose I'll start basic. I essentially toast two pieces of bread, heat up the oven, put some lunch meat, cheese and ranch dressing on said toast, and cook that in the oven until the cheese melts all through. While not escaping the realm of sandwiches, it's pretty darn good for a hot lunch if you need it.

kingofjokers September 29th, 2009 5:53 PM

Well since I took home ec i can cook so i just make me some eggs and bacon if I want some good breakfast or some pancakes on the week ends

Zenith101 September 29th, 2009 7:09 PM

To be honest it doesnt matter. You can do what you want with it. I consider it an lunch.

BJ088 September 29th, 2009 8:50 PM

Sandwiches all the way! Cheese, tomato, lettuce, avocado. Best combo EVER!

Cid September 29th, 2009 9:23 PM

I usually make omelets for breakfast when I get to cook...
Not much crazy or weird stuff has been mixed in, so far.
I'd be scolded if I waste ingredients for experimental dishes.

Oh, and when I don't feel like cooking, I just prepare sandwiches.

Joey_951 October 5th, 2009 11:54 AM

cereal pancakes and waffles with chocolate milk

Rokusasu October 5th, 2009 2:05 PM

I'm learning how to cook from my mum- tomorrow she's gonna teach me to make apple crumble. 83 Sometimes I'll make dinner for my family- it depends on what it is that they want though. XD

I suck at putting lunches together though... Usually I'll grab some junk food... XD

Captain Hobo. October 5th, 2009 3:59 PM

I just get whatever i'm hungry for.

.Seth October 5th, 2009 4:05 PM

I check the fridge. End of story.
But seriously, if I'm hungry and my parents aren't around, I usually go microwave a hotdog/corndog or make a sandwich.

Although, sometimes I might cook a frozen dinner or something.

Vigilante October 5th, 2009 5:13 PM

Well, since I loooooooove cooking, I often times(when I'm not too lazy) make my own things. Like eggs, and hasbrowns, and bacon. Its that or starve >.> mostly because I'm still hungry after my meals, but you'd never guess it considering I'm only 87 pounds, and like 6% body fat or something <.<

Kotone October 5th, 2009 5:40 PM

cereal for me(:
hehe xD xD

Misheard Whisper October 5th, 2009 6:13 PM

I just pull out Ye Olde Toastede Sandwiche Machine and slap some cheese and spaghetti between bread. Leave for 3-15 minutes (very erratic machine), return with sauce, and nom.

Luck October 5th, 2009 6:15 PM

Usually, I get a lot of cup ramen or a sugary snack if I'm the only one here, but I like cooking sometimes so I occasionally make myself some eggs and ham.

BHwolfgang October 5th, 2009 6:55 PM

I usually consume either a bowl of cereal or maybe two fruits before rushing off to school? However, if I happen to wake up early, I'll make myself bacons n' eggs. :)

♣Gawain♣ October 6th, 2009 8:12 AM

When I used to wake up early and go to school, I always cook some omelletes and prepare some hot chocolate for breakfast. Now, I'm content with bread and butter with the same old hot choco.

Nick October 16th, 2009 4:17 PM

This is hard for me considering I don't normally eat breakfast nor lunch. If I have what I need, I guess I'll cook a full meal since I enjoy cooking so long as I don't have to be the one to clean the dishes afterword. If I'm just looking for something to pull me over until dinner (which is usually the case), I'll just eat a small snack that I find in the cabinets.

twocows October 16th, 2009 6:57 PM

In order of availability:
1. Lunchables (those things are awesome, and they sell them on-campus)
2. Ramen
3. Sandwich
4. Crackers + cheese
5. Getting off my lazy butt and going out to actually buy something (usually ends up being this, since I try not to buy a lot of food so that I'm forced to use my meal plan meals)

Caelus October 16th, 2009 7:08 PM

If an adult isn't around I just check the fridge. :/
It's usually a sandwich unless my parents bought something really good from the day before, where I'll just eat that instead (and that's if it doesn't require the oven)

Mario The World Champion October 16th, 2009 8:09 PM

I don't have any odd ways of making stuff to eat. I don't cook very much at all. I just get something from the freezer and microwave it. Or I'd have some Spaghetti-Os and have that. If I have cereal, I'd eat that and if I have peanut butter and jelly, I'd have that if I felt like it.

Besides, I RARELY eat breakfast. Maybe 4-5 times a year.

Chibi Robo October 16th, 2009 8:29 PM

When I get hungry the best breakfast/lunch/dinner is *drumroll*
CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES 8D
Because its the only thing I can make without burning the whole house down.

jupotatoes October 16th, 2009 8:31 PM

Hey, Mario, ya really should have breakfast, its eating that makes you leaner. Personally, I always cook a decent meal every three hours and try to leave my pigging out for cheat days (they're recently becoming armagedon days), but when sweet tooth kicks in and I really can't hold it or at least take time to make anything decent, it's bread with halvarine and coccoa powder, 45s of microwave and going to town with it. Instant pasta with olive oil and garlic is also something I can't resist every now and then. I also have this crazy cook periods that come and go every six months or so, when I feel like cooking all day long and always have some acarajé, guacamole, banana cake or calzone ready to wolf down.

Call me gross, n-o-t-h-i-n-g tops cold pizza.

Miz en Scène October 16th, 2009 9:05 PM

Usually.

1. Instant noodles
2. A grilled cheese sandwich with butter.
3. Eggs+salted butter+salt+chilli sauce+sweet soy sauce
Fried with oil and scrambled.
Mmmm...

Guillermo October 17th, 2009 1:08 AM

My grandparents are too lazy to wake me up let alone make me something. I just drink Up & Go's.

Cheesymitten October 17th, 2009 1:12 AM

I tried my hand at making cheese on toast...
It didn't go that well... The cheese was meant to be all gooey turned out mine was all burnt...

So, if i don't have any instructions i think it's safe to say that i am quite crap at making my own dinner/lunch..

KUROXFAI October 19th, 2009 4:27 PM

w00t i was homeschooled and i have two siblings, i was always the one who cooked/did anything... and i made up really awesome recipes and had quite a few failures, but i ate them even if they failed shows you something bout me... :]
right now i still cook for the rest of my family when i get home...
and they always eat my cooking.
i will make crepes or tempura a bunch of the times
one of my crepe recipe's for dinner is to make the crepe then tempura fry some steak and avacado then place the tempura fried things in the crepe and serve with soy sauce
