[MTG] You know, like... Jund

Budget Jund deck.

Holds up well against other aggro decks, but gets slaughtered by a Jund mirror match.
No access to Pulse or Stag is painful.

Creatures (24)
4 Putrid Leech
4 Hellspark Elemental
4 Sprouting Thrinax
4 Shambling Remains
4 Hell's Thunder/Vampire Nighthawk
4 Bloodbraid Elf

Instants (8)
4 Lightning Bolt
2 Terminate
2 Bituminous Blast

Sorceries (4)
4 Blightning

Land (24)
4 Savage Lands
6 Forest
7 Swamp
7 Mountain

Sideboard (15)
3 Goblin Outlander
3 Anathemancer
3 Jund Charm
4 Deathmark
2 Broodmate Dragon

-----
Card choices

Usual Jund squad:
Like the Leech, Elf and Thrinax.
Are still cheap, though the price of the Sprouting Thrinax is steadily rising.

Shambling Remains:
No other budget creature in the 3-drop slot. lol

Hell's Thunder/Vampire Nighthawk:
Testing to see which is better.
Nighthawk is happy life gain, a flier and deathtoucher rolled in one, while Thunder is a Ram-gang replacement that doesn't stick around for long.

Land:
Don't own any M10 duals and ZEN fetches.

Sideboard:
Outlanders are awesome 2-drops against a heavily W deck. My meta has lots of W decks, so very, very nice.
Anathemancer is seeing less action due to LOR block rotating out.
Broodmate is a bomb against slower control decks.

I'd go with the Nighthawks IMO. Aren't most decent black removal cards weak to other black decks anyway? Or am I just being noob? :S

Might want bushwacker goblin instead of nighthawks or thunders. Otherwise, there's very little to say about this deck. lol

Came 6th place in a 16-man tournament with a K value of 16.

Comments from veteran players:
- Faster than the average Jund.
- But low card power especially for removal, since I have no Pulse.
- Mana base needs more work.
- "Interesting card choice" (pointing to Shambling Remains.)

Shambling:
Either did work, or just sat there doing nothing.
A 4/3 on turn 3 definitely draws Thunderbolts to it, which I didn't mind since I can unearth it later on.
But the cannot block clause lost me a game :/

Vampire Nighthawk (main-decked):
Did surprisingly little, since I could never draw/cascade into it.
Only time it did something was when the lifegain saved me, allowing me to win on the following turn...

Or block a Baneslayer, so that I can lose a turn later, lol.

Hell's Thunder (side-boarded):
Should've main decked.
Almost always switched in for Nighthawk on round 2, and did wonders when cascaded into with BBE.
Unearthing was, again, a nice touch.

Anathemancer:
Average damage was something like 3.
Should switch him out for Ruinblasters.

So for the next tournament, I will...
1. Remove the Remains, and add some other 3-mana card in (Resounding Thunder seems to be getting popular in the budget crowd.)
2. Add more Terminate.
3. Mainboard Hell's Thunder.

Doubt the opponent will waste spot removal on a creature that dies at the end of turn anyway.
I also find Terminate and Path to Exile as a bigger threat (removal wise) than Doomblade.

This idea sounds interesting.
Might try it out when I rework this deck.

3 drops? I say maindeck Jund Charm. It can seriously disrupt the board with its second effect.

How so? Dude has deathtouch and kills Baneslayers. D:

Comment on Jund Charm: It's already in the sb. :3

BSA has First Strike :(

If only it traded FS for Vigilance...

I have to agree with Kenny; not much to say here. Bushwaker does sound interesting, but it seems like you did a good job constructing.

No crit for you :> -shot-

Kenny_C.002 October 30th, 2009 9:16 PM

Oh shoot, you're right. I keep forgetting Walletslayer Angel has FS in that beastly package of hers.
