r/b/y/g/s/c monotype attack challenge.

Welcome to this challenge for the first and second gen!

The idea for this challenge is that any pokemon you take can only know moves of 1 type, like a Gyarados with Rain Dance, Waterfall, Surf and Hydro pump.

Rules
-Please state what Pokemon you are using, with which type and the version you are using when you sign up.
-Don't forget to update.
-The challenge is over when you beat the E4 in the first gen and after beating red in the second.
-You may use as many HM slaves as you want, they can have mixed type attacks, but they're not allowed to battle.
-No hacking
-No Spamming
-No Flaming
-All PC rules apply
-Have fun!

Tips
-Choose the type of the attacks you want the same as the pokemons type, so you'll get STAB over it, though you don't have to do this.
-Try making ur moveset as usefull as possible, with attacking and non-attacking (which need to be of ur chosen type) moves
-Not every pokemon has to have the same type, you choose another type for each pokemon you are going to use.
-Combine it with another challenge to make it harder! A monotype attack challenge with a regular monotype challenge is a lot harder, since ur prefered type of moves will be ur pokemon's side type and 1 pokemon without side type or just one for the type of monotype challenge.

Good luck and have fun!

PS, you can start without me saying you can.

I'll do solo fighting on Crystal rom.

Team:
Poliwrath for Water moves.
Heracross for Normal moves.
Machoke for Fire moves.
Whatever Torygue evolves into for Fighting moves.

Sign me in for Blue Red Version (my Blue rom doesn't work properly). I'll use:

Bulbasaur (Grass) Sleep Powder, Leech Seed... Why not?
Rattata (Normal) Will i be allowed to box it for a Strength slave (probably tauros) when i'm in Victory Road?
Machop (Fighting) A great attacking type. I was considering Sandshrew or Diglett, but Sand-Attack was normal back then, so i don't get 4 Ground moves (Dig, EQ, Fissure, nothing), so i'll go with Fighting. Forget Machop, i changed my mind: Cubone (Ground) All these Cubone signature moves are Ground, so i'll use this guy instead of Machop (or maybe Machop over Vulpix?)
Vulpix Growlithe (Fire) Filler. And i needed something against Grass types, only Rattata was able to hurt them
Tentacool (Water) This thing is a monster, with its 100 Base Special
Farfetch'd (Slave) Who else?

And i won't evolve them, Tentacool is already strong enough xD

Update: Started on Blue, but the game froze after a few minutes. So i started again, on Red this time, which means i'll have to replace the Vulpix by a Growlithe. But i just found out that Growlithe can't learn 4 Fire moves, so Machop will get that place instead. Chose Bulbasaur, lost to my rival's (called Blue) Charmander. Did the Parcel quest, caught a Rattata. Grinded Rattata to level 7 and beat Blue this time, barely, with Bulbasaur having like 6 HP left, Leech Seed won that battle for me, Tackle did pretty much nothing to Pidgey, and against Charmander it never hit (but my first Leech Seed and some Growls hit, yay). Beat Brock. Both Bulbasaur and Rattata (no nicknames, i'm too lazy to invent some) are both level 12 now.
Update#2: Beat Misty. Surprisingly easy. Killed Staryu with Hyper Fang, Leech Seeded Starmie and spammed Vine Whip, it worked.

Team:

Bulbasaur Lv. 24
- Tackle
- Growl
- Leech Seed
- Razor Whip
Only 2 grass type moves by now, i'll keep Tackle and Growl till i get something that's Grass.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/9/95/Spr_1b_019.png
Rattata Lv. 24
- Tackle
- Tail Whip
- Quick Attack
- Hyper Fang
Hyper Fang is imba, even Geodude doesn't like getting hit by it.

Well, you can switch Ratata for Tauros, but you could get him out the box when chalelnging the league.

I changed my mind and I'm going to use 3 Poliwrath's with different type moves.

Poliwrath Normal, Water and Fighting.

mondays suck October 27th, 2009 11:31 AM

That's exactly what i was planning, since Tauros doesn't really count as NFE imo and Rattata doesn't deserve to get kicked out of my team, it's my MVP up to now.
I did all that Vermilion stuff, caught a Machop in Rock Tunnel, grinded it to level 25. Beat Erika and Giovanni. Caught a Cubone in Pokemon Tower and taught it Dig. Saved.

Team:
Spoiler:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/a/a3/Spr_1b_001.png
Bulbasaur Lv. 37
- Razor Leaf
- Mega Drain
- Leech Seed
- Vine Whip
Lol, said Razor Whip in the last post, of course it was Vine Whip i was meaning. Pretty decent, but the extreme Zubat-weak is quite annoying.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/9/95/Spr_1b_019.png
Rattata Lv. 38
- Body Slam
- Super Fang
- Quick Attack
- Hyper Fang
I wanted to put Double-Edge on this, but i accidentally sold it, i thought TM 10 was Horn Drill, but that's TM 07 *facepalm*

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/b/b2/Spr_1b_066.png
Machop Lv. 37
- Karate Chop
- Low Kick
- Leer
- Counter
I could have already Submission by now, but i forgot to buy it. The slow speed hurts, but Machop is quite bulky, which compensates that.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/56/Spr_1b_104.png
Cubone Lv. 22
- Bone Club
- Growl
- Dig
- /
I just caught it and taught it Dig, so i can't really say anything about it yet...

Update: Finished Pokemon tower, caught a Lv.15 Tentacool, grinded Tentacool into the 20s, went to Fuschia, did Safari Zone stuff (this included catching a Chansey), beat Koga, surfed from Pallet Town to Cinnabar, found the Key, beat Blaine. Saved.

Team:
Spoiler:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/a/a3/Spr_1b_001.png
Bulbasaur Lv. 40
- Razor Leaf
- Mega Drain
- Leech Seed
- Vine Whip
I'm not sure whether teaching Solarbeam would make sense, but i think i'll just put Sleep Powder>Vine Whip and then it'll be fine. A bit underleveled because it can't really hurt the Fires and Poisons on Cinnabar.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/9/95/Spr_1b_019.png
Rattata Lv. 42
- Body Slam
- Super Fang
- Quick Attack
- Hyper Fang
Many people think Rattata is one of the weakest Pokemon ever but this is anything but weak, even without cheap FEAR strategies
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/b/b2/Spr_1b_066.png
Machop Lv. 41
- Submission
- Low Kick
- Seismic Toss
- Counter
Seismic Toss hits Ghosts, which makes it pretty useful. Like Bulbasaur, suffers from all the Poison types and the recoil damage from Submission.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/56/Spr_1b_104.png
Cubone Lv. 42
- Bone Club
- Growl
- Dig
- Leer
Has only 2 moves of its type, but it's still one of the best, a lot of common stuff is weak to it.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/df/Spr_1b_072.png
Tentacool Lv. 42
- Water Gun
- Surf
- Wrap
- Bubblebeam

Doesn't like physical attacks. But aside from that, it's almost perfect. One-hitted all of Koga's Pokemon except for Weezing, the last one, which exploded. One-hitted all of Blaine's Pokemon, except for Arcanine, which got a Take Down CH, KOd Tenta and got revenge-killed by Rattata with Quick Attack. If Tentacool is already that good, i wonder how easy the game would be using a Tentacruel that's not locked on one attacking type...

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/e/eb/Spr_1b_083.png
Dux Lv. 3
- Peck
- Sand-Attack
- Fly
- Cut
Fly on the slot over Cut because i need it a lot more often
Oh, and i will not have to deposit Rattata in victory Road, since theres a much easier and more comfortable solution i completely forgot about: Depositing Farfetch'd!

Update: I just beat the Elite 4. I recorded the battles, but i can give a short summary as well:
Lorelei: Pretty hard. Jynx was damn annoying, and so was Lapras.
Bruno: No comment.
Agatha: Again, way too easy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F44aDf9VBoULawnce: His Dragonite never attacked, so he was easy as well.
Blue: Alakazam screwed me over, my team is incredibly Psychic-weak. But at some point, it stopped sweeping, and i could finally defeat it. The rest was easy, though i was lucky that Charizard's Fire Blast missed 2 times in a row against Bulbasaur. The battle was quite long, so it is divided into 2 parts.

Final Team:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/a/a3/Spr_1b_001.png
Bulbasaur Lv. 53
- Razor Leaf
- Mega Drain
- Leech Seed
- Sleep Powder
Mediocre through most parts of the game, but easily the best later on, thanks to the Sleep Seed tactic.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/9/95/Spr_1b_019.png
Rattata Lv. 51
- Body Slam
- Super Fang
- Quick Attack
- Hyper Fang
Super Fang did really help, and Body Slam's paralysis saved me in some critical situations.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/b/b2/Spr_1b_066.png
Machop Lv. 51
- Submission
- Low Kick
- Seismic Toss
- Counter
Probably the worst member of my team, Low Kick is quite weak and Submission brings recoil damage with it, which adds up quickly. Counter only counters Normal and Fighting moves in gen 1. So Machop was only useful for Seismic Tossing stuff that i couldn't really hit later on.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/56/Spr_1b_104.png
Cubone Lv. 51
- Bone Club
- Bonemerang
- Dig
- Earthquake
Didn't see much use during the Elite 4, but one of the best during most parts of the game, especially in Silph Co
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/df/Spr_1b_072.png
Tentacool Lv. 53
- Water Gun
- Surf
- Hydro Pump
- Bubblebeam

Overall my MVP, even though Bulbasaur was a lot better in the Elite 4 battles. It's quite swift, it hits extremely hard, and it can take most special hits like nothing. For example, Tentacool did even survive an attack by Alakazam.

Slaves: :t083: (Cut, Fly), :t128: (Strength)

11wildy October 29th, 2009 12:17 AM

wow, that was fast! Anyway, congratulations on being the first to beat it!

Beat Falkner easily after some grinding.(that's so easy on a vba)
I did all stuff in Sprout tower, which was kinda hard with poliwags Bubble. I grinded it to level 16 before going in there, so I didn't have too much problems.
Went to Azalea and did teh Slowpoke well stuff.
Beat Bugsy handily.
Went trough Ilex forest and POliwags evolved, all 3.
beat Withney trough a missed Rollout from Miltank.
Saved.

Team:

Poliwhirl lvl 27 (water)
Bubble
Rain Dance
Doubleslap

Somehow all of them forgot to learn Hypnosis and Water gun....

Poliwirhl lvl 26 (fight)
Bubble
Rain Dance
Doubleslap

No fighting moves yet.

Poliwhirl lvl 26 (normal)
Headbutt
Doubleslap
Attract
Bubble

My strongest member to this point, having the strongest attack and having another kinda usefull move.

11wildy November 11th, 2009 3:17 AM

Nothing exciting happened in the game, but now I'm at Lance, I'll post the full battle:

POliwrath VS Gyarados
POliwrath uses Belly drum.
Gyarados uses Flail.
Poliwrath heals with Hyper potion.
Gyarados uses Flail.
Poliwrath uses Body Slam.
Gyarados fainted.

The rest was one hit KOed by Body slam. Aerodactyl by Dynamicpunch.

Team:
Poliwrath Fight lvl 47
Body Slam
Belly Drum
Dynamispunch
Rock Smash

It's a shame he only learned 2 fighting moves until now, but he did sweep Lance by himself.

Poliwrath normal lvl 46
Strenght
Swagger
Rest
Sleep talk

I don't really like this guy, I want to replace Rest talk with something, 1 more atack so I have more PP and I dunno what more.

Poliwrath Water lvl 46
Surf
Waterfall
Whirlpool
Rain Dance

He is a nice and strong member of the team and a great HM slave. :D
