[MTG] R/B: To Nothingness

The deck edition!

My friend recently bought Shadowmoor's -1/-1 UB deck. I decided to research into Wither and Persist. Whereas a GWB persist deck would be odd, I found that BR wither had a TON more potential to kick ass. Therefore...ducks.

This is a dream build for now. I barely have any money...:V

-26- Creatures

-4- Kulrath Knight
-3- Midnight Banshee
-2- Necroskitter
-2- Needle Specter
-3- Rendclaw Trow
-3- Scuzzback Scrapper
-3- Sickle Ripper
-3- Ashenmoor Liege
-1- Soul Snuffers
-2- Dusk Urchins

-15- Other Spells

-2- Puncture Blast
-1- Pyrrhic Revival
-3- Incremental Blight
-2- Blowfly Infestation
-3- Crumbling Ashes
-4- Bad Moon

-19- Lands

-1- Dragonskull Summit
-1- Akoum Refuge
-12- Swamp
-5- Mountain

I just threw this together, so let me know if I'm missing something.

Apple Juice October 30th, 2009 7:23 PM

Again, I'm noob at MTG, so don't kill me :OO

To me, Puncture Bolt seems a little blank in every most decks. Idk about this one. I'll edit this with more crit when I have time, but for now, pretty good by the looks of it, so I'll give you a thumbs up and check up on it more tomorrows :<

Kulrath Knight turns them from Tarfires to Scars with Pacifism attached. Which is why I run them.

It also makes PB's target my next Crumbling Ashes target as well.

Play puncture blasts. Honestly for 1 more mana, it just does more.

Play incremental blight somewhere in there as a 2-of. I've found it stellar with necroskitter when I was mucking around with wither, and it's better than retribution anyway. Again for 1 more mana.

If you want to be brave or w/e, play power of fire, because wither combos with poking.

DonRoyale October 30th, 2009 9:27 PM

Swapped Bolts for Blasts and Retributions for Incrimental Blights.

Any other suggestions?

Apple Juice October 31st, 2009 5:54 AM

You really have all the cards I was about to suggest, so bleh. Dusk Urchins might be nice, I guess. :x

Just passing by, but Redcap + Sigil Captain + Aristocrat is an insta-win combo for a GWB persist deck.

Kenny_C.002 October 31st, 2009 8:12 AM

Well, there's always the Devoted Druid and Quillspike combo...in a monogreen deck, nonetheless. ><

DonRoyale October 31st, 2009 11:55 AM

Kohei: I know all three of those cards, why don't I know the combo? Fail.

Apple Juice: It'd probably be too costly to get my hands on one, but it's a very decent suggestion. :>

Kenny: True.

There's also Juniper Order Ranger. Works well with ALL persist cards, not just 2/2 Peristers.

Kenny_C.002 October 31st, 2009 1:37 PM

Urchins rotated out, so it should have had a dramatic price hemorrhage.

DonRoyale November 5th, 2009 7:40 PM

OK, I've updated, but I'm now in need of more Dusk Urchins. They have just fantastic synergy with Incremental Blight (target it with 2-3 -1/-1 counters, draw 3 cards, whoo!), and are a great 3-drop in general.

I'm looking to make this the best I can. Can you guys help me with this?

Apple Juice November 6th, 2009 5:46 AM

Well, maybe an Ashenmoor Cohort could help, if you have any blacks in the deck.

It's too costly and it doesn't do anything to help the general build of the deck, sadly...

kohei November 6th, 2009 5:10 PM

Blightning, Terminate and Bituminous Blast.

Well, those are obvious, Tier 1 choices. :P

Bituminous also doesn't mesh well with the deck because it mills Kulrath Knights and Midnight Banshees, but it's useful otherwise. (It's probably horrifically expensive though :V)

Apple Juice November 7th, 2009 4:50 AM

I was a little shaky on suggesting; +1/+1 wasn't what you were going for anyways, so yeah. :x

Bit. Blast should not be too expensive even with Jund being at top, since it's just another Standard-relevant uncommon (unlike Cash to Exile.)

Dang, being a Standard player, I just get this urge to shape this into a Standard RB Blightning deck.

Kenny_C.002 November 7th, 2009 8:41 AM

Blast isn't even played half the time in Jund, so it's not in high demand. I agree that cash to exile and walletslayer angel are getting ridiculous. XD

We also got jwar jwar sphinx in Zen. lol

But Jund's options are numerous, and for the most part, cheap.

Kenny, don't forget Mastercard Pulse. And Walletslayer Angel? More like Bankslayer Angel lol.

I wish I had a job; I'd buy a box of Alara Reborn and I'd be good lol

Kenny_C.002 November 7th, 2009 2:13 PM

I won't, nor Ajani Goldbars either. Then again, it's nowhere near the ridiculousness known as Elspeth, Price-Errant (well, it went only 1 direction, though).

DonRoyale November 10th, 2009 9:49 PM

So I've been able to test the build a bit with the cards I've bought so far, and I've figured out that the Stigma Lashers are expensive pieces of dead weight. As such, I've replaced them with lands, which can be a problem with the deck.

I'm also considering replacing the Scuzzback Scrappers with Oona's Gatewardens. They're theoretically both dead draws late-game, but the latter is good aerial defense and has great synergy with Kulrath Knight, and doesn't get killed off by the combo of Crumbling Ashes and Midnight Banshee, plus gets the Bad Moon boosts.

Let me know what you guys think.

Apple Juice November 11th, 2009 5:23 AM

I think it's a nice idea, and you should try it out and see how it goes. I for one agree with the swap. :>

/my opinion

Kenny_C.002 November 11th, 2009 4:40 PM

You can try it, but it gatewardens don't help you win faster, and if you're playing it for the defense, then you're probably doing it wrong. That's just my food for thought there.
