Have fun everyone! I'll start us off with a topic: What got you interested in the Inheritance series?

Wandering lucario November 14th, 2009 12:22 PM

i wish to join please i have all three books

bit.trip void November 17th, 2009 1:12 PM

Joinage plz. What got me interested was that I'd always liked dragons, and after about the first thirty odd pages I was hooked. Can't wait until the next one comes out. Any ~speculations~ on the title? :B

Haruka of Hoenn November 17th, 2009 1:58 PM

Welcome to the club, Delta Vulpix and Jesh!

And the title for the fourth book hasn't been confirmed yet, but:

Spoiler:
This website here: http://www.shurtugal.com/ is the official website of the series, and it says that the title will be something Eragon inherits.

That website is actually a pretty good one. There's an entire forum for speculations, but I'd rather not look through all of them. I'm really obsessive over spoilers, and I'm afraid that someone will *accidentally* guess the right thing.

SolarAbusoru November 17th, 2009 2:01 PM

I'd like to join please, I've read all three books and am waiting patiently for the fourth.
I visit this site: http://www.alagaesia.com/ usually

Haruka of Hoenn November 17th, 2009 2:22 PM

Welcome to the club, SolarAbusoru! And I used to visit that site too, but it's not updated that often. In the other site they actually do monthly interviews with the author, if that interests you.

Oh, and I made these buttons a while ago for those of you who want to advertise the club:

I'll join up! I'm waiting desperately for the fourth one to come out....

Haruka of Hoenn November 27th, 2009 12:47 PM

Welcome to the club, Denali! I'm really anticipating the fourth book too :P But I'm taking my mind off the book for now by reading Sherlock Holmes. (I've reread the series twice already, and I need to read something else for a change) As soon as the official release date is announced, I'll put it up here.

Denali November 27th, 2009 12:54 PM

What got you interested in the Inheritance series?
Truthfully, I just saw it at the Border's bookstore and bought it.

Circuit November 27th, 2009 1:25 PM

I don't believe this! (well, actually, I knew it'd happen...) I was the owner of the same club topic a while back, but that was very successful, it got seven pages (at least) and was almost always active. Please try and let that happen again, I'd be disappointed if the same club didn't do as well.

In a lighter note, I'll join again, but would like to try and be the co-owner if possible, someone to help run it.

What got you interested in the Inheritance series?
Eragon and Eldest were a Christmas present, and I was hooked. I got Brisingr when it came out, the day it came out, and was the first one to get it in my area. I love the series and cannot wait for the fourth one to be released. Hats off to Chris!

Couldn't agree with you more, Flash! Can't wait for the fourth one to come out!
What book out of the three so far is your favorite and why?

Circuit November 28th, 2009 12:27 AM

In order of favorites, it goes: Eldest, Eragon, Brisingr. Brisingr had half a book dedicated to the coronation of the dwarf's which, don't get me wrong, was rather boring. The book was still good, but it lasted a bit too long in the dwarf's coronation.

Do you think in the fourth book Arya will fall for Eragon?
I'm not sure. She might, but probably not. Chris has made it so certain that she is wrong for Eragon.

Haruka of Hoenn November 28th, 2009 7:32 AM

Flash: That's really interesting that you've run this club before. If you have experience then sure, you can be co-owner. Welcome to the club!

What book out of the three so far is your favorite and why?
My favorite has to be Eldest, because it's a time of change and transition for Eragon. Christopher does really well in developing Eragon's character further and making him more mature than he was in the first book.

Do you think in the fourth book Arya will fall for Eragon?
Yes, but it will be very complicated. (Don't read spoiler unless you've entirely finished all three books.)
Spoiler:

Remember how, in Eldest, Eragon and Arya are sitting under the Menoa Tree, and Blagden shrieks "Wyrda"? Of course, 'wyrda' means fate so that scene definitely has some significance. Then, Arya tells Eragon about the story of the Menoa Tree, and how the elf Linnea sang herself into the tree after stabbing her mate. As a young elf, she never had any interest in love, until one younger elf spoke words of love to her. They were happy for a while, but eventually the male elf betrayed her with someone of his own age.) In this case, Arya is the older elf and Eragon is the younger half-elf/Rider/whatever :P Arya never had any interest in Eragon, then he reveals his feeling for her multiple times.
In Brisingr, Eragon is almost killed by the Menoa Tree, but says that in return for the brightsteel, he will give her anything she wanted. So, the Menoa Tree agrees and lets him go, but didn't tell him what she wanted. In the fourth book, the next dragon egg will hatch. I believe that during this time, Arya will warm up to Eragon and possibly they might develop a relationship. (In Brisingr, Christopher gives clues that Arya might actually like him. Eragon notices that she seemes embarassed when healing him, and can't finish a sentence before he battles with Murtagh)
When the next dragon rider appears, Saphira will fall in love with that male dragon. In Eldest, Saphira tells Eragon that if he falls in love with someone, her feelings would be altered as well. It can work backwards too. When Saphira falls in love with the new dreagon, Eragon might fall in love with the rider, assuming it will be a girl. Then, like Linnea, Arya might feel betrayed by Eragon and possibly do something terrible. I'm not saying she will stab him or sing herself into a tree, but this is just a connection I made while reading. I think that what the Menoa Tree wanted was Arya not to be betrayed by Eragon and suffer the same way she did. The Menoa Tree might have discovered something in his memories that let her know of his feelings for Arya.

Denali November 28th, 2009 8:45 AM

@Haruka of Hoenn - Couldn't agree with you more; Eragon and Arya will fall in love and yada yada, but it's the matter of when.
@Haruka of Hoenn & Flash - Yes, I totally agree with you guys; Eldest is my ultime favorite, then Eragon, and then Brisingr. I chose Eldest first because it has many viewpoints (like Eragon, Nasuada, and Roran - I think it's Roran :)) And it also delves a little into Roran and his adventures.

I made the same connection a while back, but I didn't develop it as much as you have Haruka. I sort of worked it out, then something, can't remember what, popped up and the answer ran away from me. You've done it though, and I'm impressed.

Haruka of Hoenn November 29th, 2009 1:21 PM

Here's a new topic for you guys to answer. (You can go back to an old topic any time if you want to discuss it further)

Do you think Eragon will spare Galbatorix, if at some point he has a chance to kill him and the king is literally at his mercy?
I'm not sure of the answer myself :P I'll wait a bit before answering so I can really think about this one.

Circuit November 29th, 2009 1:25 PM

Do you think Eragon will spare Galbatorix, if at some point he has a chance to kill him and the king is literally at his mercy?
Same Haruka, but my initial thoughts are that Eragon would spare him and let someone else deal with him.

Haruka of Hoenn November 29th, 2009 1:33 PM

Do you think Eragon will spare Galbatorix, if at some point he has a chance to kill him and the king is literally at his mercy?
Spoiler:
Since Eragon spared Sloan instead of killing him, maybe Eragon will do the same for the king. It would be hard to do so, because he would have to incapacitate him so he would no longer post a threat.

It's unlikely though, but I still don't think it would be easy for Eragon to just decide to kill him and get it over with. Then again:

Spoiler:
In the battle between Murtagh and Oromis, Galbatorix tried to recruit him and Glaedr on his side, but said that they would perish when they refused. So, maybe Eragon would have a sudden flashback of the moment, and would have enough hate to kill him.

Denali November 29th, 2009 2:33 PM

Do you think Eragon will spare Galbatorix, if at some point he has a chance to kill him and the king is literally at his mercy?
All very good points; but I think Eragon will kill Galbatorix because Eragon has matured and realized that the only way to really get rid of the threat, Galbatorix, will be to kill him.
Spoiler:

Also, when Galb. killed whats his face dragon master dude; oh yeah, Orgimir? Anyways, when Galb. kills him Eragon will flashback to that moment and kill him!

Circuit December 4th, 2009 1:31 PM

And don't forget:
(do not read unless you have read all three books)
Spoiler:
When Eragon is fighting Galbatorix, he may flash back also to the thought of his uncle Garrow being tortured and killed by the Ra'zac who were working for Galbatorix. Oromis' death would only anger him more.

shot571 December 4th, 2009 2:00 PM

id like to join :) wat got me first interested in eragon was the film. from that i started reading the books and thats about it

Haruka of Hoenn December 4th, 2009 2:33 PM

All right, welcome to the club shot571! I never saw the movie, actually. I might rent it when I get the chance.

Circuit December 5th, 2009 2:03 AM

The movie sucks. It is rubbish and is nothing like the books. Actually, not one bit is the same in the movie as in the book, so if you have read the book, only get the film if you want to see how rubbish and far fetched it is.

Yeah, I've heard bad reviews for it from other fans of the books. I saw the trailer for it and it looked odd... The thing I hate about watching movies about books is that my interpretation of the characters and how they look is way off. (The only movie that was spot-on for my visualizations of the book was Harry Potter.)
Anyway, I might rent it just so I can see it. Then I'll post a lengthy rant here...

Circuit December 6th, 2009 2:49 AM

The only film I've ever watched that is pretty much the moving version of the book is Holes. That film was excellent, and the things they said were the same as well. That was the only good book film for me. Harry Potter is the same, but they cut short a lot of the action. In number 5 the battle with Voldemort could have been a lot longer and better.

Haruka of Hoenn December 6th, 2009 11:27 AM

Well, I finished the movie :P It wasn't actually that bad, but they made it too short. Also, it barely followed the book. In the beginning, the narrator kills the mood of the story. This would have been the perfect beginning:

A short montage of Arya and her team fleeing the Shade, then the egg being teleported. Then, Eragon wakes up, and for a few minutes, we just get a picture of everyday Carvahall life. Then he goes hunting, and the egg appears before him. etc. etc.

In all, the movie was just too rushed. I heard that Christopher Paolini wasn't there when they were filming or writing the script. If he were there, then the movie coudl ahve been better.

Right you are Flash; the movie could've been way better! I think they did a decent job on Saphira though....

Code December 7th, 2009 3:59 PM

Yes, Saphira was teh good, but the way teh movie went away from teh books was bad,,,,books > movie.

Missingno.7-4468 December 10th, 2009 10:00 PM

I would like to join. I am a huge fan of this series. I can't remember how it started, I think that it had something to do with my dad getting it...

I will say that my favorite book was Eldest(Roran FTW), however, as I can't remember much of Eragon, I'm gonna have to say my second favorite was Brisingr.

Another thing is is that I saw the movie. Worst waste of money ever, was so not worth going to the theatre for. They could have done much better.

Circuit December 11th, 2009 1:28 PM

The only bit I liked was Saphira. She was good, but not like the illustrations on the books, which are better. All in all, the film is not worth buying, and it was too short, and it leant nowhere near the books.

Haruka of Hoenn December 11th, 2009 2:13 PM

All right, welcome to the club Missingno.7-4468!
And I agree with everyone's criticisms of the movie :/
In my opinion, the actor who played Brom should have played Galbatorix. Arya's ears weren't even pointed. Overall, I can tell that they didn't make much of an effort. The trailer looked better than the movie, though.

I think it's time for a new topic! (P.S. Anyone can make a new topic, in case I haven't mentioned that already.)

Do you pronounce any names differently than they're supposed to be?
I pronounce Arya 'Ar-eye-ah' instead of 'Ar-ee-uh'
I pronounce Saphira 'Saf-eye-rah' instead of 'Suh-fear-ah'
I pronounce Glaedr 'Glah-dee-er' (It's ridiculous, I know :P) instead of 'Glay-dr'

Missingno.7-4468 December 11th, 2009 2:55 PM

I think that the guy who played Brom was perfect. They did really have to make up what Galbatorix looked like, I don't remember him ever described in the books.

Anyway, I don't think I pronounce anything differently...I may pronounce a few Ancient Language/Dwarven words wrong though...

Lockmaster24 December 12th, 2009 12:32 AM

I would like to join ^.^

At first i didn't like it because the movie is crap but when Brisingr came out i thought "Meh, may aswell read it" and i have enjoyed it every since.

I enjoy thing about my joke of what Galbatorix's true name is (i say D***head) :D

I got a question.

Who do you think the third egg will hatch for?
Personally I have no idea so i was wondering what others thought

another question

Where do you think Eragon will go once he leaves Alagaesia?
I think it is not that he will leave alagaesia but simply will not walk there as he will be riding Saphira instead

Haruka of Hoenn December 12th, 2009 10:21 AM

All right, welcome to the club, Lockmaster24!
I almost always read the book before watching the movie, and this was exactly the case in this series. I got Eragon at a book fair, and I've been interested ever since.

Who do you think the third egg will hatch for?
I actually have no clue :P I used to assume it would hatch for Arya, but if you see my spoiler a few posts ago, you'll find out why I don't think that anymore. Whoever it is, I guess I'll be satisfied.

Where do you think Eragon will go once he leaves Alagaesia?
Probably Vroengard. Either that, or a different land across the sea.

Denali December 12th, 2009 11:01 PM

Who do you think the third egg will hatch for?
Spoiler:

I think it will be Roran. Because he's started to learn magic in book two and three. An unlikely choice, but it would be a huge surprise, right? I think the three dragon riders will then team up against Galbatorix (Murtagh becoming good again!)

Where do you think Eragon will go once he leaves Alagaesia?
I think he and Arya will get married (or whatever its called) and have a child. They will then move to Carvahall, rebuild the farm, and live there. Saphira will fall in love with the next Dragon (a male green dragon, is my prediction).

Lockmaster24 December 13th, 2009 2:56 AM

after thinking it over i think it would be ironic if it is Roran as all three dragon riders are related to Selena.

Haruka of Hoenn December 13th, 2009 6:44 AM

Eragon tried to teach Roran magic in the third book, but he didn't have any progress at all. I think if he was destined to be the next Rider or whatever, he would have shown at least some progress in magic.
But then again, maybe the power resides in him already, and he hasn't learned to tap into it yet. Remember all those things he went through in books 2 and 3? That would be nearly impossible for a normal human. Of course, he was driven by love for Katrina, but maybe a certain power exists in him that he isn't aware of yet.

Denali December 13th, 2009 9:22 AM

Yeah, I agree with you guys. It would be unlikely...but i think it would be kinda cool to see Roran as the next Rider; it would be a huge syrprise anyway.

Haruka of Hoenn December 13th, 2009 10:58 AM

It would make sense for Roran to be a Rider. It would be kinda cool if the three new riders were all related to Eragon. (Murtagh is his half-brother, and Roran is his cousin)
Christopher Paolini said that the next Rider would be a 'surprise'... so the next Rider will be who we least expect it to be. But anyways, 'surprise' is a vague term, and all we can do is theorize :P

Missingno.7-4468 December 13th, 2009 3:51 PM

Who do you think the third egg will hatch for?
Personally, I don't really know, but I don't think that it will be arya or Roran. Since Arya is a princess and all, plus with the whole genre thing it would really be to cliche of Christopher Paolini.
Spoiler:
I don't think it'll be Roran because he has a family coming, and he simply loves Katrina too much to leave her

Circuit December 16th, 2009 12:11 PM

I really don't think it will be Roran. It seems to obvious. Maybe Arya, but I think most probably it will be Elva. She is quite unexpected, and remember she is growing faster than a normal human.

Spoiler:
I think her because she has already had contact with dragons and magic, and has befriended both well overall. She could be forced to work for Galbatorix though, since the third egg is in his possession.

Denali December 17th, 2009 4:56 PM

Yeah it would be cool fir the end of the fourth book for there to be a 2 vs 2 dragon battle! Eragong and Someone vs Galbatorix and Murtag (unless Murtag turns good, which I think he will). That would be an amazing chapter! :)

Haruka of Hoenn December 18th, 2009 3:23 PM

But wait, I think we jsut missed a very crucial point.
In the first book, it becomes clear that a new rider must undergo months and months of training. This includes all the time it takes for the dragon to fully mature. If the new rider isn't under an oath to Galbatorix, then his/her dragon won't be forced to grow with spells like Thorn did. This would mean that the dragon and rider will have to spend many months together while the dragon grows and the rider learns to control magic. (Assuming that he/she isn't already a realized magician)
I don't think CP will spend 200 or so pages just explaining how the new rider and dragon grow and develop. Either the new rider will appear in the very beginning of the book, and they continue to learn as the events unfold and the battles occur, or the next rider will appear sometime in the end, when the events are dying down.

Circuit December 19th, 2009 1:14 AM

Yes, it would be very boring if that's what CP did. The new rider has to appear at the beginning of the book, or the end. If he/she poppec up in the middle, Eragon would be put under pressure, and it could ruin the whole book.

Haruka of Hoenn December 21st, 2009 2:43 PM

I think we need to liven this place up with a new topic... a double topic, actually.

What do you think Eragon's true name is? If you can't think of the entire thing, what do you think could be a part of it?
Throughout the books, I've noticed how Eragon seems strangely connected with the Brisingr spell. I think that 'fire' appears somewhere in his true name. I don't remember which book it was in, but when Eragon hears the word 'Brisingr', he shivers. The only explanation for this would be that this word appears somewhere in his true name. Also, Brisingr is the spell he learns first, back in the first book. Maybe this spell comes naturally to him because fire is somehow in his nature?
Spoiler for Brisingr:
Spoiler:
His sword is named Brisingr, too. When he named it, the sword first burst into flames, but the second time, it shivered but remained flame-free. Rhunon said that since Eragon helped forge the sword, he put some of himself into the sword, thus making it somewhat like him. If Eragon's true name includes the word 'Brisingr', then this would explain why his sword shivered when he named it.

Maybe, in the final book, CP will reveal what the name 'Eragon' means in the Ancient Language. (Not his true name, but the meaning of his given name). Topic 2:

What do you think is the meaning of the name 'Eragon'?
I think it might be 'Weilder of fire' or something.

Circuit December 22nd, 2009 8:48 AM

Eragon does not shiver when he hears the word brisingr, but he is attached to it. His sword bursts into flames whenever says the word, but not anyone else. The sword shivers when some one says its name, but Eragon doesn't react in any peculiar way to the word Brisingr.

Eragon's true name? I done have a clue where to look. It could be wielder of fire, dragon tamer, blue fire, sharp stalker, anything related to Eragon. But really, I don't know.

The meaning of Eragon's name, such as Aiden means Little Fiery one? I thing it means Dragon Rider, and yes, I know that Shur'tugal means dragon rider, but that is in the Ancient Language. This is what his name means. Two different things.

Let's go off topic for a minute. Just this once :P

What are your New Year's resolutions?

Mine are to be more focused on my goals and generally try to be a better person. I usually spend some time thinking about my resolutions on the day of New Year's eve, but a little planning can't hurt.

What are your New Year's resolutions?

To study even more, and to never ever drink too much soda(because I've found out I'm hypergastric...)

All right, welcome to the club Viceroy Gawain! But you might want to put the ending of Brisingr in a spoiler tag... :/

Circuit December 28th, 2009 2:08 PM

I know why, but isn't everyone here finished with the books?

What are your New Year's resolutions?
To be as good as I can everywhere!

Yeah, I thought everyone here is done reading the series. Anyway I'll do that.

Well, I'm back. Sorry for my little...uh...absence. I was on vacation, so it was really hard to come on.

Anyway, the topic at hand:
I haven't really thought about it. It's probably simply gonna be to study harder in school and such.

All right, welcome back!

And it's great to hear everyone's resolutions. I made a list last year, but I lost it :P

Oh, and apparently, Christopher Paolini released a new book: Eragon's Guide to Alagaesia. (This was a while ago, but some may not have heard.) It's sort of a 'manual' on the series, and includes fun facts and drawings. Are any of you planning on getting this? Me no, but I might look at it when it comes to a bookstore near me. I don't really want to buy it, but I am curious as to what it contains.

Edit to the poster above: sure, you can join.

I haven't heard that book before. And that's really thoughtful of him, since many of the readers are confused.

What happened, why has this place gone inactive suddenly?

I have never heard of that book. It sound intriguing. I might buy it if I see it in a store that I can actually get to. I'll google it now though.

Eragon's Guide to Alagaesia.

Never heard of that book. I'll look it up though it seems kinda interesting....
Yeah sorry guys for being inactive, I've been a little busy....

Missingno.7-4468 January 24th, 2010 8:38 PM

Alright, we need to get back, people, so I'll start a new topic.

What has been your favorite moment in the books so far?
Spoiler:
Personally, I would have to say the whole thing of Roran disregarding his orders from his commander, and doing what he knew would work. It just really seemed amazing that he would do that.

♣Gawain♣ January 29th, 2010 9:24 PM

^ about when Murtagh and Eragon(as 2 dragon riders) duelling, and each explains they're opinions who will rule Alagaesia.

Haruka of Hoenn January 30th, 2010 11:17 AM

I've been so busy with other things, I forgot to check up on this place... but we definitely need to get the club up and active again. I want this place to last until the release of the fourth book, and then some.

As an answer to the current topic, my favorite moment has to be the end of Brisingr. (The last two chapters or so.) They're very epic, and to me, they show how much the characters have changed on their long journey and sets a great tone for the adventures ahead.

Circuit January 31st, 2010 11:17 AM

Lets keep this place alive for as long as possible.

In answer to the topic:
Spoiler:
my favourite part was the next fight with Murtagh, and the end scenes when Eragon has his new sword Brisingr.
