Well, I finished the movie :P It wasn't actually that bad, but they made it too short. Also, it barely followed the book. In the beginning, the narrator kills the mood of the story. This would have been the perfect beginning:
A short montage of Arya and her team fleeing the Shade, then the egg being teleported. Then, Eragon wakes up, and for a few minutes, we just get a picture of everyday Carvahall life. Then he goes hunting, and the egg appears before him. etc. etc. In all, the movie was just too rushed. I heard that Christopher Paolini wasn't there when they were filming or writing the script. If he were there, then the movie coudl ahve been better. |

Yes, Saphira was teh good, but the way teh movie went away from teh books was bad,,,,books > movie.
(I am not member, and don't intend to be. Just thought I'd post since I LOVED teh Inheritance cycle, and I wanted to share a view. Carry on. I'm not here. XD) |
I would like to join. I am a huge fan of this series. I can't remember how it started, I think that it had something to do with my dad getting it...
I will say that my favorite book was Eldest(Roran FTW), however, as I can't remember much of Eragon, I'm gonna have to say my second favorite was Brisingr. Another thing is is that I saw the movie. Worst waste of money ever, was so not worth going to the theatre for. They could have done much better. |
The only bit I liked was Saphira. She was good, but not like the illustrations on the books, which are better. All in all, the film is not worth buying, and it was too short, and it leant nowhere near the books.

All right, welcome to the club Missingno.7-4468!
And I agree with everyone's criticisms of the movie :/ In my opinion, the actor who played Brom should have played Galbatorix. Arya's ears weren't even pointed. Overall, I can tell that they didn't make much of an effort. The trailer looked better than the movie, though. I think it's time for a new topic! (P.S. Anyone can make a new topic, in case I haven't mentioned that already.) Do you pronounce any names differently than they're supposed to be? I pronounce Arya 'Ar-eye-ah' instead of 'Ar-ee-uh' I pronounce Saphira 'Saf-eye-rah' instead of 'Suh-fear-ah' I pronounce Glaedr 'Glah-dee-er' (It's ridiculous, I know :P) instead of 'Glay-dr' |
I think that the guy who played Brom was perfect. They did really have to make up what Galbatorix looked like, I don't remember him ever described in the books.
Anyway, I don't think I pronounce anything differently...I may pronounce a few Ancient Language/Dwarven words wrong though... |
I would like to join ^.^
At first i didn't like it because the movie is crap but when Brisingr came out i thought "Meh, may aswell read it" and i have enjoyed it every since. I enjoy thing about my joke of what Galbatorix's true name is (i say D***head) :D I got a question. Who do you think the third egg will hatch for? Personally I have no idea so i was wondering what others thought another question Where do you think Eragon will go once he leaves Alagaesia? I think it is not that he will leave alagaesia but simply will not walk there as he will be riding Saphira instead |
All right, welcome to the club, Lockmaster24!
I almost always read the book before watching the movie, and this was exactly the case in this series. I got Eragon at a book fair, and I've been interested ever since. Who do you think the third egg will hatch for? I actually have no clue :P I used to assume it would hatch for Arya, but if you see my spoiler a few posts ago, you'll find out why I don't think that anymore. Whoever it is, I guess I'll be satisfied. Where do you think Eragon will go once he leaves Alagaesia? Probably Vroengard. Either that, or a different land across the sea. |
Who do you think the third egg will hatch for?
Spoiler:
Where do you think Eragon will go once he leaves Alagaesia? I think he and Arya will get married (or whatever its called) and have a child. They will then move to Carvahall, rebuild the farm, and live there. Saphira will fall in love with the next Dragon (a male green dragon, is my prediction). |
after thinking it over i think it would be ironic if it is Roran as all three dragon riders are related to Selena.
|
Eragon tried to teach Roran magic in the third book, but he didn't have any progress at all. I think if he was destined to be the next Rider or whatever, he would have shown at least some progress in magic.
But then again, maybe the power resides in him already, and he hasn't learned to tap into it yet. Remember all those things he went through in books 2 and 3? That would be nearly impossible for a normal human. Of course, he was driven by love for Katrina, but maybe a certain power exists in him that he isn't aware of yet. |
Yeah, I agree with you guys. It would be unlikely...but i think it would be kinda cool to see Roran as the next Rider; it would be a huge syrprise anyway.
|
It would make sense for Roran to be a Rider. It would be kinda cool if the three new riders were all related to Eragon. (Murtagh is his half-brother, and Roran is his cousin)
Christopher Paolini said that the next Rider would be a 'surprise'... so the next Rider will be who we least expect it to be. But anyways, 'surprise' is a vague term, and all we can do is theorize :P |
Who do you think the third egg will hatch for?
Personally, I don't really know, but I don't think that it will be arya or Roran. Since Arya is a princess and all, plus with the whole genre thing it would really be to cliche of Christopher Paolini. Spoiler:
|
I really don't think it will be Roran. It seems to obvious. Maybe Arya, but I think most probably it will be Elva. She is quite unexpected, and remember she is growing faster than a normal human.

Yeah it would be cool fir the end of the fourth book for there to be a 2 vs 2 dragon battle! Eragong and Someone vs Galbatorix and Murtag (unless Murtag turns good, which I think he will). That would be an amazing chapter! :)
|
But wait, I think we jsut missed a very crucial point.
In the first book, it becomes clear that a new rider must undergo months and months of training. This includes all the time it takes for the dragon to fully mature. If the new rider isn't under an oath to Galbatorix, then his/her dragon won't be forced to grow with spells like Thorn did. This would mean that the dragon and rider will have to spend many months together while the dragon grows and the rider learns to control magic. (Assuming that he/she isn't already a realized magician) I don't think CP will spend 200 or so pages just explaining how the new rider and dragon grow and develop. Either the new rider will appear in the very beginning of the book, and they continue to learn as the events unfold and the battles occur, or the next rider will appear sometime in the end, when the events are dying down. |
Yes, it would be very boring if that's what CP did. The new rider has to appear at the beginning of the book, or the end. If he/she poppec up in the middle, Eragon would be put under pressure, and it could ruin the whole book.

I think we need to liven this place up with a new topic... a double topic, actually.
What do you think Eragon's true name is? If you can't think of the entire thing, what do you think could be a part of it? Throughout the books, I've noticed how Eragon seems strangely connected with the Brisingr spell. I think that 'fire' appears somewhere in his true name. I don't remember which book it was in, but when Eragon hears the word 'Brisingr', he shivers. The only explanation for this would be that this word appears somewhere in his true name. Also, Brisingr is the spell he learns first, back in the first book. Maybe this spell comes naturally to him because fire is somehow in his nature? Spoiler for Brisingr: Spoiler:
Maybe, in the final book, CP will reveal what the name 'Eragon' means in the Ancient Language. (Not his true name, but the meaning of his given name). Topic 2: What do you think is the meaning of the name 'Eragon'? I think it might be 'Weilder of fire' or something. |
Eragon does not shiver when he hears the word brisingr, but he is attached to it. His sword bursts into flames whenever says the word, but not anyone else. The sword shivers when some one says its name, but Eragon doesn't react in any peculiar way to the word Brisingr.
Eragon's true name? I done have a clue where to look. It could be wielder of fire, dragon tamer, blue fire, sharp stalker, anything related to Eragon. But really, I don't know. The meaning of Eragon's name, such as Aiden means Little Fiery one? I thing it means Dragon Rider, and yes, I know that Shur'tugal means dragon rider, but that is in the Ancient Language. This is what his name means. Two different things. |
Happy Holidays everyone! :)

Merry Boxing Day Everyone!
Sorry I wasn't on yesterday, I was busy with Christmas! But happy holidays to you all and the best in 2010! |
You too, guys! Merry Christmas (belated) and have a happy new year!
Let's go off topic for a minute. Just this once :P What are your New Year's resolutions? Mine are to be more focused on my goals and generally try to be a better person. I usually spend some time thinking about my resolutions on the day of New Year's eve, but a little planning can't hurt. |
I'll join, since I'm finished with all the books.
Spoiler:
To study even more, and to never ever drink too much soda(because I've found out I'm hypergastric...) |
