Mechamon: You got your Pokémon in my robots.

http://i36.*.com/2vvqrn8.jpg

Originating from the festering depths of the robotic wasteland only known as /m/echa, Mechamon is a Pokémon Fire Red hack that seeks to combine two things that many people hold dearly: Children and teenagers running away from home to capture and battle wild animals, often without adult supervision, and children and teenagers running away from home to shoot each other in giant robots, often without adult supervision.

Picking your choice of hero or heroine wearing a very stylish piece of headgear, you travel through part of Not-Japan stuffing small robots into even smaller containers and trying to be the very best, like no one ever was. But do you have the skills to be number one?

Featuring such innovations as:

-Robots

Spoiler:
http://i38.*.com/e7ar2a.jpg
]Lots and lots of robots, in all shapes and sizes, spanning over 50 years of Japan drawing comics and cartoons in an attempt to get children to buy as many toys as possible.

-A highly modified type system
Spoiler:
A good amount of the existing types have been modified to make better sense of small robots trying to beat each other up. The same goes for moves because otherwise it would be very silly.

-New graphics
Spoiler:
While the majority of robot sprites are shamelessly ripped (and in some cases downsized and redrawn) from the popular Super Robot Wars series of 2D SRPG games, they are also complimented by the occasional original work when needed.

-New Characters

Spoiler:
http://i36.*.com/2nk5uac.jpg
Taken straight from the pages/animation cels/cutscene graphics of all your favourite (Or at least somebody's favourite) robot related manga/anime/video games, a sizeable cast of trainers and gym leaders stand in the way of your quest to be a master of Pokémon battling incredibly destructive robotic creatures with little regard for personal safety or collateral damage. (Which to be honest is pretty much the same thing).

-A Musical Extravaganza
Spoiler:
The same songs that provide the backdrop for the soothing soundtrack of lasers, explosions and stomping have been lovingly converted to the GBA in all of it's 32-bit glory.

-It's a Whole new world (But you still gotta catch em' all)
Spoiler:
Not-Japan is a place filled with mystery, adventure, challenges and a wide array of small mechanical creatures that could probably cause some serious damage in the wrong hands. Lurking within the nations is an omnious organisation known as the Titans who seek to seize control of Not-Japan.
Thankfully for you, however, they have a strong code of honour which makes them accept defeat when bested in fights with ten year olds, despite the alternative options a large criminal organisation could choose to deal with groups of children.

Wow,i like your work.Nice job!

Tropical Sunlight November 9th, 2009 11:21 PM

Nice. What's the Repair Kit? A Potion?

Bela November 9th, 2009 11:41 PM

Did you do all of the spriting yourself? It looks really nice =D

Ninja Caterpie November 10th, 2009 12:51 AM

It looks very nice, but the mapping just...lets it down.

=\

Well, good luck. =P

Vanitas~ November 10th, 2009 3:30 AM

All I have to say is lols. It looks great, but I agree with Caterpie about the maps. I also noticed you don't have a backsprite for Mazinger Z. I can't do anything, but you should probably fix that. You don;t fight with your back turnned on the enemy. Still, keep it up.

Masterge77 November 10th, 2009 4:13 AM

I was expecting something like the RP Mechamon in the RP forums, with robot Pokemon like a Robot Charmander....

Tropical Sunlight November 10th, 2009 5:53 AM

Why don't you show us the titlescreen you Posted in the Titlescreen thread?

Binary November 10th, 2009 8:27 AM

Wow, I've never seen such an idea before but it looks pretty good.
You don't have a base storyline though. So you should work on that.
I like the screens(robots XD)

~Kian~ November 10th, 2009 9:22 AM

its a cool idea i like it but i think maybe you could make the names a bit less complicated, if it were me id probably maybe turn pokemon into robots as in make them robots so like charamander would be like a robotic lizard rather than a random robot but that s just me, well good luck with the rest of the game ;)

I'm not an incredibly talented spriter, and unfortunately I had to prioritise working on the more important aspects of the game before spending a good amount of time drawing backsprites.

I was dissatisfied with my own poor spriting job.

But the TS was awesome!
What more could you want?

Great Mazinger November 10th, 2009 12:59 PM

Four good sprites as opposed to three good ones and a custom one that looked poor and didn't match the other three. I was working on a much nicer one in the meantime anyway.

Done. But I'm in no mood to make the monstrous tilemap for that tonight.

Curt_09 November 10th, 2009 5:09 PM

What an interesting concept.
I like the new titlescreen, as well as the Mechamon.
Good luck.

Ok. I was just making a comment. I agree that it isn't the highest priority, making a fun, KA hack is.

poke-mega November 11th, 2009 1:55 AM

that a good idea !! ^^
i hope you will relsease next update !!

Team Rocket's Raichu November 11th, 2009 6:19 PM

Nice concept. You have a good spiriting skills, but unfortunately you need a good mapper.

I'm semi-good, but I don't have enough free time, so if you were planning to ask don't.

Crimson Stardust November 11th, 2009 11:16 PM

Judging from the title screen and Dex entries, I beg to differ!

Luck December 5th, 2009 11:25 PM

This idea certainly is original.
The pokemon are as fresh and original as the idea and it really looks pretty nice overall.
But it brings up a few questions that I'll ask later(too sleepy now D8.)
The only thing that it really lacks is mapping. It's pretty sub-par and too dull to be enjoyable to play through.

Lopnis December 6th, 2009 3:39 AM

Will Gurren Lagann mech's be in this game? and if so will the replacement for Eevee be Lagann since it forms many diffrent forms of Gurren Lagann through the series?
