Heart's Soul June 5th, 2010 8:01 AM

I had the idea of VG Cats on my forum logo, but then there's the problem with Scott's trademarks. Hm, he's a nice guy, though.

Yeah, I'm going to try and learn to draw first.

aRedMoon June 6th, 2010 8:56 AM

Nice guy doesn't mean he's okay with using copyrighted images...

Heart's Soul June 6th, 2010 10:37 AM

1. I give him credit
2. I ask him.
3. I am patient.

Either way, I hope for the best in working on my header. Or I can just create a cheap knock-off. :pirate:

Okay, I was kidding. I had another update- my eCPM is 0.04. Easily said, it's BAD.

aRedMoon June 6th, 2010 10:55 AM

re #2: He probably won't respond.

Heart's Soul June 6th, 2010 11:00 AM

Re: re #2- I know. So what? I get 1 more reader.

And I parodied his comic in my way. (Nothing NSFW, it just depicts my site)

EDIT: Okay, I know he read my site. How? I see the location (approx.) from where someone went onto my site. Sometimes it's bookmark, sometimes it's PC, sometimes it's my old... domain?

aRedMoon June 6th, 2010 12:20 PM

And so where did he come from?

Heart's Soul June 7th, 2010 9:10 AM

He lives in Waterloo, Ontario around Oak Street.

aRedMoon June 7th, 2010 3:26 PM

I highly doubt it... location doesn't get that exact in stats.

Heart's Soul June 7th, 2010 6:00 PM

I tried with my house, it sent me to Leila and Partridge combining together. That's about 50-100m away from my house!

Faltzer June 7th, 2010 7:26 PM

This discussion is so stupid that I am compelled to change it for the good of this topic.

How long has it been since you guys have added a significance to your own generated status, besides amusement as to the sites that link to you?

pokejungle June 7th, 2010 8:17 PM

Wait what? I'm not sure I understand the question thar :|

Tyler June 8th, 2010 9:25 PM

I can't seem to understand it either...

Wait. Are you asking what do we do with our sites other than get the amusement of others linking to us? Yeah, I make money and I added that about a week ago.

On an unrelated note, I got 3 clicks so far. Very high percentage.

aRedMoon June 9th, 2010 1:53 PM

Don't you get it? We don't care about your blog here. We don't care how many clicks you get. So please stop yabbering about them.

Greg may be cold and cruel, but I care <3

Hahaha. I'll dumb it down:

"When was the last time you considered your web statistics significant?"

pokejungle June 9th, 2010 11:22 PM

Just because you're the only one who understood your question doesn't make it smart lol

You're not answering it even if I break it down for you, so I'm inclined to believe the contrary. If you can't answer the question, just say it; don't break off into a tangent in an attempt to look intelligent.

WonderGirl June 10th, 2010 6:48 AM

All right, topic change!

Has anyone heard of xtreemhost? It's an awesome host that I'm using. It's much better than any other host I tried.

That doesn't... at all guarantee he saw it. ._.; Waterloo is a major tech area and houses arguably one of the geekiest universities in Canada. If your site is fandom/internet/tech-related, there's definitely no proof it was Scott himself. Probably just some student who stumbled onto the site based on their interests.

:( If it were a few months ago, it was probably me, lmao.

Dumb it down? More like make it understandable.

And I find them interesting, nothing else. I list the figures from Analytics on my Wiki for people to see. Trends are interesting, if nothing else. The only other one that I pay attention to is my personal blog, which I can also see trends for... and I also like seeing the bump when I actually post.

(I also love seeing how people GET to my website. Like I've seen this search a few times - even before that post - and it gives me a chuckle.

Haha. Same; sometimes I see the strangest search queries on my SE referrals, majority of them being the last line of Catcher in the Rye. =[

pokejungle June 10th, 2010 4:19 PM

Fine faltzer. The last time I considered my web statistics significant was in 2006 when I actually updated my site.

Once my new rendition of PJN is up, I'll care again.

aRedMoon June 10th, 2010 7:21 PM

(Haven't you been saying you'll revive it since around 2006? :p)

And today is my seven year mark here at PC. AND ONCE AGAIN, I GET NO THREAD. :(

No I have not been saying I'll revive it for that long >o

And I don't like the layout D: At all.

pokejungle June 12th, 2010 12:15 PM

Well clearly I was NOT looking for an opinion from you. In fact that post clearly states "Greg don't bother commenting, I don't care what you think". In bold no less.

aRedMoon June 12th, 2010 12:48 PM

Well fine be that way :( It's not like you haven't insulted my work before. :(:(:(

aRedMoon July 19th, 2010 7:58 AM

..."cool" anime and gamer kids?

Not sure if that's the word most would use :p

Cherrim July 19th, 2010 8:07 AM

I was trying to think of a polite way to describe them otherwise but couldn't think of a suitable adjective. :(

aRedMoon July 19th, 2010 8:12 AM

Haha... we're still all alone in our vastness of nothingness... :(

saul July 25th, 2010 7:05 PM

Nothingness. This place has diiiied. D:

Also--SINCE WHEN ARE YOU NOT ALLOWED TO ADVERTISE YOUR WEBSITE HERE!?!

aRedMoon July 25th, 2010 9:36 PM

Wut? That's kinda absurd. D:

This is what happens when we get moderators that don't know the section. .________. Should've figured this would happen one day when we got dumped as a subforum.

I reported the closure and IMed Mork (I still want to call him Robo! haha) so hopefully it'll be reopened.

Nothing like killing non-existent activity. First thread we've had in forever...

WonderGirl August 21st, 2010 9:15 AM

Good question. I use Forumotion and I thought about that too. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to do that though because I know various commands in the Admin CP. I think it would be best to ask in their help forum.

WonderGirl August 21st, 2010 9:31 AM

Lol I can imagine.

Um does anybody here know how to install vB? It's so complicated :/

That should be simple really. In your forum host, where you upload your files/folders; make a new direction called Forum or
Forums and upload all the vbulletin folders there. When you chat mod it all to 777, then install it.
The install file should say something like "install.php" just open that and fill in all the details, but I think you need to create
or have a mySQL database first.

aRedMoon August 21st, 2010 6:37 PM

:\ Lots of old forum softwares don't...

Faltzer August 22nd, 2010 6:15 AM

Yeah, especially judging from how useless disabling increments on a static number in a specific forum is too. They had it right.

aRedMoon August 22nd, 2010 12:37 PM

Some people still care about post counts, sadly.

(My post count continues to drop here at PC. I wonder why. I used to be near 11k...)

pokejungle August 24th, 2010 9:23 PM

I CARE ABOUT MY POST COUNT.

Because I come here often and enjoy looking at it? I don't usually bother with post count disable-ment on my forums.

Pikachu Trainer~ August 25th, 2010 1:33 AM

Hey, haven't posted in a while and the webmasters lounge seems to be turning in to a ghost town :/
Just a quick question, I have recently been sorting out my website (http://www.pokemonvalley.net) and I'd like to try and get the actual content up closer to the banner, at the moment i'm finding it to be pretty hard. The layout is on WordPress and it is an edited default theme. Thanks guys.

Serene Grace August 31st, 2010 2:23 AM

I'm bored and I think it's time to finally attempt to create a Pokémon fansite. Also becuase I am too lazy do use custom PHP (I don't even know that much, anyway), I will probably use Wordpress and stuff. Jeez, now to actually come up with what it'll be about, and a name. Something catchy must be used. Hmm 'pkmonzmastaz.com' y/y?

Looking back on how many Pokémon fan sites there used to be compared to how many there actually is now is quite something really. A couple of years ago you could find so many Pokémon fan sites aspiring to become 'Serebii' or just unique. Now it's hard to actually find any that are like that, as the majority of them have died or disappeared from existence.

I never liked how the competition became so hostile that there are only a few sites left for information, and they're all bickering about how one of them is 'better', or how they get 'news first'. It doesn't matter, it's freaking Pokemon.

Also, speaking of dead sites, whatever happened to the PPN? I was around when it 'disappeared', but I never got a story on it. I'd heard some...pretty bad bits and pieces, but I didn't know what the truth was.

I don't know if anyone actually found out about what happened to PPN. There were a bunch of stories floating around at that time.

But yeah, Pokemon fansites have gone dooown. It's pretty sad.

And the hostile competition was always extremely ridiculous. Being active in some (much) larger fandoms than PKMN, I've seen the webmasters get along. It's not about competition in those fandoms. They're really really good friends--like good enough to meet and hang out in person. And yet for some reason there's always been this hostile attitude between some webmasters in the POKEMON fandom. It's Pokemon for crying out loud. There's not so much of that anymore because most of the sites are gone. But looking back on it all, it was so pathetic.

aRedMoon September 3rd, 2010 5:41 PM

Pokemon webmasters totally meet in person.

Or at least me and Paul did.

Twice, even!

(WTF, Faltzer is banned?!)

I know they do, but rarely. And not like the webmasters in the other fandoms. (Some of them are living together.... O_o)

Pikachu Trainer~ September 3rd, 2010 11:45 PM

Do you think it would be a good idea if someone compiled a list of all the remaining Pokémon fansites that are still running? I'd be interested to see how many there is, and what information they're providing. I used to love looking at all of them.

Uecil September 4th, 2010 12:05 AM

That would be nice, but that's why you have pokemon top sites ;D
I have a pokemon fan site

kasabian_ September 4th, 2010 12:50 AM

So do I

But there are so many I don't think it will be that easy to do something like that. Anyway it would be like advertising and my little finger tells me it's against the rules of PC :P

Pikachu Trainer~ September 4th, 2010 1:46 AM

I don't see a problem with it, as you are allowed to advertise websites but not forums. So it's pretty harmless posting a list of all the Pokémon fansites. I'd be willing to do it if it's allowed and I'll make sure it's categorized alphabetically so people can access it easily, each site will have a short description as well. I'll PM one of the mods here about it.

WonderGirl September 4th, 2010 2:13 AM

Yay a new way of advertising :D

Oh and is it legal to put anime episodes in your site? D:

Dahlia411 September 6th, 2010 8:29 AM

Gardenia101 and I started a website earlier this summer, it was probably one of the best sites I've made!

I started a site, and didn't continue with it (but I still have it) called The Poke Source.
I was hoping to get it to be like Serebii...how does Serebii get all the top information and stuff?

From all over ;D
Although Serebii can be kinda slow, I usually get it before them...

aRedMoon September 6th, 2010 7:56 PM

I love how ~20 minutes later has become "slow"...

aRedMoon October 9th, 2010 4:47 PM

So... you need a new graphics host? There are a ton out there... you could even just use tinypic or imageshack.

Bloo October 9th, 2010 5:05 PM

I'm having a sort of... dilema. Okay, basically, I don;t know whether to host my blog on my website with WordPress or CuteNews privately, or with blogspot, the thing is that my friend uses Blogger and it would be awkward if mine was on another site lol. I enjoy making art, so my art would go on there too, and I would have a section regardless, completely scripted by me. I think I would like to have the blogger one as a mirror, where the two sync with eachother, but I can't figure out how to do that :-/ EDIT:Also what is a good imagehost, because imageshack isn't working for me.

Heart's Soul October 10th, 2010 5:45 PM

Hm... all right, so I have a website that I'm linking to in my sig (the banner) which I made and I want to know if I can improve it any further?

Tinypic is good too.

And I prefer self-hosting... you get a lot more power that way.

Yeah. A lot.

First off, raise the text size so I can read it...

Heart's Soul October 15th, 2010 6:17 PM

I should add in that it's recommended for monitors with 1024x768 setup or 1280x1024 at most. Really, my PC is 4:3. And I keep it at 1024x768, so it's simple to read for me. And most my fans.

aRedMoon October 17th, 2010 6:40 PM

Very few people still use those resolutions.......

Heart's Soul October 22nd, 2010 7:54 AM

I placed Analytics a long while ago on my webcomic and the majority does use 1024x768 or something close to that. I've even had 400x320.

Okay, I just redid my style, how does it look now? I also fixed the red 1px-width line over my images in the top banner.

aRedMoon October 22nd, 2010 4:57 PM

Cute comic.

And layout looks better, yes.

Gardenia101 October 25th, 2010 2:48 PM

Anyone have any tips for my site?

http://www.ganium.net

PLEASE TELL ME ANYTHING!!! ;D

aRedMoon October 27th, 2010 8:12 PM

Does anyone know which free domain name is the best to use? co.cc, cz.cc, .tk, any other?

pokejungle November 17th, 2010 9:39 AM

They all use ads to support the 'free'-ness which isn't the best trade off for your visitors.

host.com/yoursite or yoursite.host.com is still better.

Comic Tragedy November 17th, 2010 12:08 PM

I definitely agree with pokejungle. Just snag a subdomain.

aRedMoon November 18th, 2010 3:33 PM

A domain is a whopping $10 a year... I'm sure you can find the quarters in the couch.

aRedMoon November 25th, 2010 7:54 PM

You can't just port themes. You'll have to redesign it using the new system.

aRedMoon November 26th, 2010 4:26 AM

Anything about a style, you're going to have to make the new one just look like the old.

saul November 27th, 2010 5:36 PM

Skinning forums is pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

I wanna start a children/YA book review site. I have all the hook ups. But I'm always wanting to start websites...

The nice thing about YA/Children Lit is that the fan base is mostly made up of adults. Us older folk are the ones who write it, after all. ;)

There are a ton, but to be honest I have yet to see the "MuggleNet" of YAlit blogs. Maybe Mu-ndie*Moms. But I get publishers and authors offering to send me ARCs and free material for my personal blog all the time. I think if I were to start one then I'd get even more offers. And whenever I post a new review on my site, my unique visits jump up. I think if I could get a group of reviewers together to update it daily, it could be really big.

But I know I shouldn't start new sites considering I only have a few months left before I'm gone... >_>

aRedMoon December 4th, 2010 4:58 PM

Forward their inquiries to me. I'd love to get some ARCs and review 'em D:

I usually use: http://imgur.com/

It's simple, fast, and it works.

I host my own now :\ Find it's easier.

Morkula December 8th, 2010 9:43 PM

I tend to use my own hosting for images too, especially for sig themes and such. I'll still upload random stuff to my Photobucket though without problems.

I'd use some sort of "Questions and Answers" mod if it's available. For my own forum I've set several questions, such as "What's Ash's iconic pokemon?" and "What's the Nurse's name that works at all PokeCenters?"

lol
