Its pretty decent. Although its pretty hard to just run a forum by itself with no supporting site. Since your site is usually what does the advertising for your forum; and its pretty hard to get an active forum when theres so much competition around.
|
I believe a forum can only become successive if you continually keep it active, otherwise it just ends up eventually dieing like a majority of forums.
Also Community Forums do not always work, though they do make it easier to gain new members faster and help keep activity up. |
Also advertisement is a part of it, not just on site but on other forums. You have to continually get the word out. Always, but a link in your signature, and get others that support your forum to do that same. PM friends on other forum to join. Also make friends with newbies, they will do anything you say xD
|
Also, people,if you're going to have forums on your sites, don't make the mistake of making 100 forums of non-sense. A good example of a forum,is to have less forums and more members. I see this all the time.

Yeah, MMC started out with a lot less boards than other forums and it was helpful in the long run. 30,000 posts later we expanded a bit, because we could support more boards.
[[ It feels kind of good to be posting in this thread again ]] |
I have never in my life advertised my forums in any way at all, and don't intend to. :P Anything to lessen the amount of times I have this conversation with a member of my forums:
"Hey, where do I find [insert something people have been talking about or putting in their sigs here]?" "Uh, it's on the site." "What site?" "...The Cave of Dragonflies main site? www.dragonflycave.com?" "Oh, lol, I never knew there was a main site." "... *kick kick kick*" |
I market my forum as more standalone, so I won't run into that problem. It's got its own domain, it operates separately, I just run it/.
|
Hey,Paul, been some time. MMC has around 16 boards, and more then 20,000 posts.

Also I made PokeProject forums when I was new to everythink, I consider myself lucky really to get that many members ETC. I am also working on a site for pokeproject and I am using freewebs as some of you know, but I am thinking of switching and buy a host. Dose anyone recomend godaddy? Two member have said its good, so could someone tell me if it is easy to use like freewebs ETC. |
For hosting I reccomend elixant.com and for domain names I reccomend aplus.net.
|
I was thinking of using godaddy.com, because they have a good price/package and also have great domain prices.
So I was going to buy the middle godaddy package plus a domain, so I don't have to transfer the domain. But I have only ever used freewebs as a host, is there a simple web site builder like freewebs with godaddy? Also dose it support .txt documents? |
I don't know but Elixant.com has great super reliable servers and lots of great deals. Also if you know someone else that uses Elixant and use their affiliate code you and the other person gets a % off.
|
If you want domains, choose 1&1. They have the cheapest, most reliable domains and their hosting comes feature-packed dirty cheap.
I've been happy with my domains there. |
o_O;; You are kidding right Paul...
1&1 could honestly be the WORST domain reseller in the entire world. Everyone I know (including myself) had troubles with them. I wanted to move my domain TheJohto.com to GoDaddy.com, and I had nothing but troubles. It now is stuck in limbo land ;< |
Elixant is too expensive,IMO. Even if the hosting plans are good,I don't recommend people getting expensive hosting and then placing adsense on your website for it to pay for you.
hmm..looking at my stats,I'm recieving around 70 unique PV's per day. :D |
Elixant is not expensive, with discount codes from existing users you can get a year of hosting with 500 MB for only like 30 bucks. Anyway, you pay more you get more serice and reliability. Elixant has a top notch customer support and great reliable servers. They have never gone down or even gotten slow.

What does your dad have to do with this?
|
Probably because Faltzer's dad is paying the cost.
I haven't had *any* trouble with 1&1. I integrated in with MMC and no problems. It was pretty quick, and cheaper than Elixant. Elixant hosting is some of the cheapest reliable hosting I've seen. You need to accept that webhosting isn't cheap Faltzer. |
I wasn't saying hosting was cheap. ._.
|
You're saying Elixant is expensive, and I'm saying it's not in any way shape or form expensive.
|
Yes,because elixant is expensive in MY opinion. Duh.
