My forum security was compromised. You can all laugh at me for using MyBB now. :]

Last time I checked, PHP, Perl, Ruby and Python code cannot be seen because the coding is stripped off the page before reaching the browser or something of the sort. What makes SE's any more different?

I'm using forum embedded news and I appear on Page 1. Let's not forget I also have friendly URLs, and I also am PR 4/10 in Google.

Besides, if that was the case, then I don't see how Smogon didn't have SE. Their past beta site, which was the one before Smogon went down and made him do a re-design, had forum embedded news.

Too late for me, I already am optimized, and I'm getting compensated for it.

Wow. Faltzer, you just actually gained a point of respect from me. ++

/me still doesn't understand why people are so obsessed with SEO.

Who gives a crap if your site is at the top of Google? You should be aiming to please those you get, and not trying to get random people.

Says I don't have permissions. :(

Geometric-sama December 10th, 2007 7:58 AM

Greg, I could read it. Perhaps this is because I am more manly than you.

Paul, please do not bypass the censors.

aRedMoon December 10th, 2007 9:18 AM

Then cp so that I can read it? :(

Faltzer December 10th, 2007 9:29 AM

Wow, this topic is back? I thought I killed it. ;~;

BTW, I don't think I'll switch from IPB to myBB, now that I see what happened to MMC. :/

This is why you need to have backups downloaded more often, and probably inspect uploads.

It's mostly .GIF avatars having PHP code, IIRC. I just disable them completely. Animated avatars are bad, imo.

pokejungle December 10th, 2007 3:54 PM

I think it was a gif avatar that had embedded code. I have the code now, so hypothetically I could disable any MyBB board.

Hypothetically.

Faltzer December 10th, 2007 5:19 PM

Yeah. Curse .GIF file PHP code in comments.

pokejungle December 10th, 2007 6:40 PM

Actually it was not MyBB's fault :[ He got the image included in my ?id= through uploading it as an avatar by mountmoon. that's the extent of MyBB's involvement.

Now I've got to fix my code so that it's safe from that.

saul December 10th, 2007 8:17 PM

They hacked it through an avatar? O.o;;

Geez, people will think up of anything these days. >.<;;

aRedMoon December 10th, 2007 8:32 PM

/me used to know how to embed a script into a .jpg, but never a .gif

Geometric-sama December 10th, 2007 8:37 PM

I suppose as long as he has the headers right, a true Manly Man can embed a script in any file, no matter how unmanly.

WaterPKMNMaster December 11th, 2007 1:02 AM

I'm glad everyone avoids myBB. It gives forums who actually use it more uniqueness. :p

pokejungle December 11th, 2007 5:06 AM

Well, we both use it :p

lol, you just randomly pop up around here.

aRedMoon December 11th, 2007 7:30 AM

It's a shame most people don't know how to properly skin their forums... kills any uniqueness...

Faltzer December 11th, 2007 10:56 AM

myBB's had it's fair share of avatar exploits, Saul.

I liked my fairly unique MMC layout that matched my site ;p

And actually saul's layout is great right now :]

Faltzer December 11th, 2007 5:24 PM

I'm still formatting my site to bridge with myBB, thanks to BrandMan211 for helping me out with it.

Lubricus December 11th, 2007 5:51 PM

I need to know how you can live through ipb faltzer because its the worst forum software in my opinion.

pokejungle December 11th, 2007 6:57 PM

Really?

I absolutely love IPB. Hmmm, I also love being the devil's advocate. But in this case I get to love both!!

Lubricus December 11th, 2007 7:01 PM

The way I see is that there is only 2 good forum softwares vBulletin, and Mybb those are the only ones that I will ever use.

pokejungle December 11th, 2007 7:38 PM

Then you my friend are very closed minded :] Just a guess, but are you Republican?

*bum bum bum CH!!* (Just imagine a talkshow esque burn sound from the band)

Lubricus December 11th, 2007 7:52 PM

Trust me Im far from republican but I have tried ipb and my experience with it was shall we say horrible I got hacked through it.

saul December 11th, 2007 9:17 PM

Faltzer - Well,I figure myBB would after seeing it myself, but it just never crossed my mind. =P
SO yeah, I guess anyone can find anyway to hack into a forum/site was my point. >.<;;

As for skinning. I looked at skinning in phpBB. It was horrible. Although I'm sure one can quickly get the hang of it, it just didn't appeal to me. =P

I did a bit of IPB, but nothing grand.

And then I had the chance to skin vB for a while, which I absolutely loved! :3 And then I was all happy that myBB was very similar. But with the built in CSS editing, it's all easy. Lately, though, I've been venturing more into the template sets. Although I still have a lot of things to learn in that :X

I made a skin for Mork for NN a while back.... I guess he never got around to using it.... =P

Geometric-sama December 11th, 2007 9:47 PM

The difficulty with SMF is that it is confusing to skin. Its skinning system is rather unmanly. vB has a manly skinning system, but an unmanly price (or manly, depending on how one looks at it).

Take out "avatar" and that fits my general opinion of that software...

Mmhmm, isn't there a premade bridge? I could've sworn there was one for those few months I used myBB.

For the most part, I agree with you on that.

How can you love something with such an impossible to navigate system?

Maybe it's different for admins, but as a moderator... I despise it. I still don't know how to approve posts. =_=

Take out that last one and I agree =D

/me might, just *might* try phpBB3 for something though

You can get hacked through any software, if you're a stupid webmaster.

Am I the only one that loved the skinning system in phpBB2? I thought it was extremely easy to use and very customizable.

I hate vB's skinning section... I find it too clumsy to have to try and edit that all in the AdminCP.

SMF itself is confusing. >_> Nothing makes sense with that forum.

And the price isn't too bad for the :D of it~ :D~~
