The problem with dragons...

I really think that nintendo messed up with to pokémon names. Against someones original idea, some programmer put flygon and salamences names backwords when programming the game. Think about it. What name would suite salamence better. Chain, BaGON, ShelGON.... FlyGON. Even the pokedex on Bagon and shelgon states that they have an urge to fly. What name would be better to a pokemon whose dream was to fly and finaly gets it's wings.
And what about Flygon then. The name Salamence would suite it better cause it is a desert dweller like a lizard (salamander).
So what I think is that the correct names are,

Bagon, Shelgon, Flygon
Trapinch, Vibrava, Salamence

It doesn't bother me much. Just came to think about it one day.

Anybody agree with me on this?

Interesting...

Flygon is from the Japanese name which was romanized from Furaigon. Salamence followed a similar salamander-type theme from Bormander (romanized). But I soppose from looking at the names it does seem kinda backwards.

Lol, I thought this thread was going to be about how all the evolved dragons except Kingdra have a double ice weakness.

I didn't say that they translated it wrong. Maybe the mistake was made already in the japanese games. When thay programmed the japanese versions. Interesting isn't it?

And sorry. I'm not that good at making headlines for my topics.

well i cannot blame the Trapinch Vibrava Family names being an error as their evolution line is weird. (Antlion into a nymph/dragonfly?)

Salamanders aren't a fiery creature at all. They are amphibians (or at least the ones i know of). It is true that they live in deserts, but they also dwell in damp places, streams, rivers, or forests (and a lot more other places too.) Salamander earns the reputation of fire-related because of their natural ability to escape from wildfires. They're one of the last to die in a natural fire diaster... and the first to resurface from the ashes as well (no salamander and the phoenix are not related.) So you can't really give Flygon the name of Salamence just on the pure fact of "desert = salamander" alone... however there maybe other arguments you have that i fail to see.

I soppose that is why they call a certain mythical fire beast a Salamander.

you have a really good point there....if sounds more right if you put the names like that! wow, cool...i woulnt have picked up on that....
