The A/B trick

did it actually work? or was i just a gullible little sod?

ChrisTom January 21st, 2010 10:38 AM

I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about.

Are you referring to the trick meant to 100% succesfully capture Pokemon?
If so then yes, you are a sod. :P

No, I'm afraid that trick doesn't work. Some claim that the success rate goes up by 20% but there is no way to prove this whatsoever. Although, if you want help catching Pokemon in Gold/Silver you can always use the PC Duplication trick with a Pokemon holding a Master Ball. However you should not use it to much, as this can corrode the memory banks, and/or the Gameboy itself.

I'm sorry you did not find a successful cheat, but I hope you have better luck in the future.

With all regards

is the the EXP thing keep pressing a/b simtamuesly and u get more exp than it says .... the extra depends on who u battle(this is for R/B/Y) NOT G/S/C

Vyro January 22nd, 2010 12:18 PM

Dammit! THIS TRICK DOESN'T EXIST! I don't know how many times I've had to tell people!

Lord Varion January 22nd, 2010 12:38 PM

It's an old one, way back from Generation I, that claims that holding down the A and B buttons on one's game console while they're trying to catch a Pokemon will raise the success rate of catching it.

And... as previously stated, this is false/has very little proof to back it up. I should know; I was one of those gullible sods who tried it and thought it worked.

EDIT: I've also heard variations that holding down A or B (I first heard the b-button) will do the trick, but just like their "combo" cousin, there is little proof to back up this trick.

FalconsDrummer January 22nd, 2010 1:19 PM

It was just a superstition. A lot of things in Pokémon games are, or at least used to be until so much information about the numbers and coding in the games became so easy to access via the Internet.

I know I used to hammer A at the same speed, hoping to increase the chances, it made me feel like it did, even if it didn't actually do a thing.

Togekiss♥ January 22nd, 2010 5:22 PM

It sure did feel like it when I caught mew using the glitch...

Mawile412 January 22nd, 2010 5:28 PM

i did it anyway >_>

Togekiss♥ January 22nd, 2010 5:31 PM

There is no trick to make pokemon easier other than weakening, status, and cheats

Marilynasol January 22nd, 2010 5:35 PM

I still do it, but I didn't hear of holding a+b in my area. In my area, it was either a or b with up or down. I couldn't remember which is which so now every time when I go to catch a Pokemon I press a+up, a+down, b+up, and b+down in that order as the Pokeball is in the air. Yes, I still believe it works even in Generation IV games, and I'm not soon going to consciously admit that it doesn't negatively affect the capture, so (however, I do worry that pressing "b" during the capture process will cancel the catch, but I'm too afraid to test that out)...

I got the same feeling way back in the day. Isn't the placebo effect awesome?! *grins*

Togekiss♥ January 22nd, 2010 5:37 PM

I heard of the up+b but not much off it so it slipped my mind

xeyj January 22nd, 2010 6:39 PM

at my school there as one going around that if you push in the bck of your gameboy it's up to 50% chance, everyone used it until my friend broke his gameboy. :(

A Pixy January 22nd, 2010 7:24 PM

I used A+Down once.

I caught an Azelf at full health in a Poke Ball.

I did it in every Pokemon game I ever played.

Lord Varion January 23rd, 2010 10:39 AM

Many people use this to make it feel like it works

I mean on emerald i pres a+b+l+r+direction of pokeball movement

GoldvsRed January 23rd, 2010 10:51 AM

Sadly, that does not actually work. If it did, it'd probably be in the walkthroughs and strategy guides. By the way, I like your username! I usually call myself "Nintendork" on other websites, but it was already taken here. Now I know why!

Wings Don't Cry January 23rd, 2010 12:16 PM

I know it doesn't work but I still do it since I get used to doing it while the Pokeball moves.

Nah, I like GoldvsRed. Its a reference to the epic final battle in Pokemon Crystal.

Lord Varion January 23rd, 2010 1:06 PM

Actually it is an epic battle

but after that theres another battle to do against silver

ChrisTom January 23rd, 2010 3:02 PM

I must say that there are some really mean people in this world. Now I'm not saying anybody here is gullible, but heres how I think this happened;

Mean Guy; Hey, what are you doing?

Pokemon Fan; I'm playing Pokemon Red!

Mean Guy; *Thought* He's so stupid playing Pokemon! I'm gonna make him look like an Idiot!

Mean Guy; *Watching* So what cheats have you learned?

Pokemon Fan; I heard about one with a truck!

Mean Guy; I heard if you move the truck you can find a really rare one.

Pokemon Fan; Really?

Pokemon Fan spends rest of the week trying to find Mew underneath a truck.

---------------------------------------

So, I think most of these things just happen because somebody wants to get a rise out of us. It's mean, but that stuff happens. People used to trick you into catching Missingno. and then whiping out your game and game memory. Now, I don't think anybody here is stupid, but think of all the cheats people have told you that ARE wrong. Jirachi, Mew, Celebi, and other things people show you ways to get. It's very, very, cruel, but again, people do it. I do not do a cheat, until I am absolutely sure that it works. I always look for at least 2 websites to say it, and find at least 3 videos of somebody performing the cheat. As I said earlier, there is no way to prove the cheat, but some people just like pressing it, because it feels like your helping. It's like playing a flying game and turning the controller sideways when turning. It doesn't help, but it feels like it.

...

Anyways, I'm done ranting. I hope you found what I had to say insightful.

BHwolfgang January 23rd, 2010 7:30 PM

I still did it. Yeah, I know it doesn't work, but for some reason I kept on pressing the A button everytime I'm trying to capture the Pokemon.

Sadly, it doesn't work.

Lord Varion January 24th, 2010 4:36 AM

that mew truck works wiv the right pokemon to push it
