Random Tiles (incl. army tiles)

When i was watching the last english episode ( with rhyperior vs grotle).
I was reading a comment: "Rhyperiors would be great for the milatary"
So i was thinking why not make some milatary base tiles for RMXP because i'm kinda of making my own fangame. And because the progress of that is going so slow that i decided to SHARE (--> give credit if u use these) these tiles with other persons who are trying to make their own fangame. So i started with only milatary tiles, but i guess i needed more practices before it would looks really good so i also tried some other things with help of tutorials like ( Dewitty's tutorial on houses)

Ps: The first 2 i accendently saved as Jpeg first, so they don't looks that good as they were

UPDATE: I made an example map of the shaded fences

Sand, grass are fro kyledove, trees are from Saurav

Nice, keep it up! the statue doesn't seem right though.....

V0RT3X February 1st, 2010 2:22 AM

i noticed, it is missing some shadow at the bottom. But thanks for the appraciation.
I also tried to sprite my first building, a milatary hangar.

http://i871.photobucket.com/albums/ab279/V0RT3X-1989/building1.png

as you can see i also edit some piece of the fence because it would give errors if you placed 2 of them on top :S

UPDATE : I wasn't fully satisfied with the hangar and i found a spriting tut. of dew (aka dewitty) for the houses.
So i tried to sprite a normal house and this is the result

Yep thats better, on the other one it looked like you prtSc the base of the statue and you copied it out from that while you where zooming in

V0RT3X February 2nd, 2010 6:08 AM

actually i forget to tell, but i got the base of the statue of weslyFG' tileset.

But the problem is, everywhere is see 16x16 RMXP tiles, but i can only use 32x32 tiles on the tilesheet.
I like the 16x16 more :(

Why can you only use 32x32?

AT the pokemon essential ( i think it was poccil's his), the standard tiles on the tilesheet are 32x32 pixels.
And i can't find it where i can set it on 16x16.

Next, i tried to redo the dragonite statue ( actually these statues are really easy to make, go to spriters-resources, pokemon dungeon 2, pick the pokemon, recolor and put in on the right base and not forget to give it some shadows). Maybe i should make a whole collection of these :D

thanks for the appriciation gigatom~ , maybe i'll sprite some more houses.

UPDATE: Tried to use the tyranitar from pokemon ranger as statue, and it work out well

Today i tried another house
actually it's note a whole house, it's a house under construction.
Hope you guys like it.

Also i may have found the solution about the 16x16 tiles to 32x32. I think it would be possible that the window size (together with the tile size) is halved. I found the place in pokemon essential but i'm not yet into the ruby language ( i still prefer java :D)

This would be my last post on this thread because nobody is showing some interest in this. I will show you a prototype of my latest pixel art, an attempt of creating a ruin.

Grass, sand and moutains are from alucus, trees are from kyledove

Alistair February 9th, 2010 11:57 AM

Okay, that is a very poor attitude. You shouldn't be doing pixel art to please others or garner their attention. You should be doing it for yourself. With practice, people will eventually pick up interest in your stuff. It takes a while, but it will happen eventually. It took me almost four years to get to where I am today.

But things are starting to look better. The fence is pretty good. The poles might need a little work, though. Instead of dithering the entire pole, only dither it in select places. This will appear to give it a little mor texture and depth. Regarding that set, the flags also need a little work. The view that your using for everything else is top-down perspective, but the flags look to be a bit more bottom-up. In addition to that, the black outline looks just bad. The walls look okay, but there are some things that could be done to them. For one, some areas use too bold of brown and contrast too great. This mostly happens with the broken areas. Instead, use a lighter brown and make it blend a little more. On that note, the broken walls don't really look too broken. It just looks like some bricks are missing. Instead, try referencing a broken brick to see how they look and try to apply that to the wall. Remember, bricks don't always fall out as wholes. In addition, because the walls are meant to look like they are broken, I would recommend putting some cracks in it, and possibly some vines.

Overall, pretty good so far (except for your attitude). There is one problem that almost everything but the statues and the gate have, and that would be antialiasing. I would recommned looking at Kyledove's tiles just as a reference for antialiasing, as he does it really well.

Okay, one final tip and then this is over. Try making your own scenery, such as trees, grass, and paths. Then make some maps. People usually look to see your work, not Kyledove's or Saurav's.

Thanx for the comment, and i'll still continue the spriting but outside of pokecommunity for a while, because just 1 reasen: I'm not good enough. Even the statues doesn't satifie me. The reason is that i'm a bit of a perfectionist (i'm not thinking that about myself but my friends does). So i tried to post it on this forum so that i got comments so i can inproof my sprites, but nobody responds. Also thanks for the tip but i prefer alucus tiles as reference because i think their really good and the colors seams right.

Also the reason that the gate worked out that well is because i used to draw in autoCAD and inventor (Their isn't standing scientist at fluid dynamics for nothing :D).

Conclusion: i will practice more at spriting, but outside this forum. When i think their great i'll start a new thread.
