Entrancer, maybe you could take a pokemon like Sandslash too? And I see Kingler/Starmie really fitting!

As for my update:
I went to Goldenrod without much problems and teached Headbutt to Onix. In Goldenrod, I bought TM Fire Punch and teached it to Geodude. Beat Whitney really easily, I got 2 lucky Magnitude 9. Traveled to ecruteak city. Geodude evolved. This time my rival SHOULD be easy, since he only has magnemite added to it which has a 4x weakness. but we'll see. I also expect Morty to be not really hard, but I'll be paying attention this time! But first, the Kimono girls. the only one which could have been a problem was Vaporeon, which was killed by a lucky Magnitude 9 again. :D
This time the rival wasn't any challenge at all! It managed to damage me for 6 HP. Onix soloed him.
ASfter entering the gym, I nearly died before even reaching the gym leader! graveler survived with only 11 HP left. CURSES lol. and paralyses keeps me immobilised for some turns again. Time to get up for Morty!
It was a joke! Seriously! Onix used Dig to beat gastly and the 2 haunters. Gengar put me too sleep and I switched out to avoid Dream Eater. gengar then missed Hypnosis and I 1HKOd with Magnitude. Now to find a Surf slave so i can get myself the red Gyarados. I guess I'l jsut go get the Good rod and catch one.
I arrived at Olivine city and caught myself a Krabby. Now going to catch the red Gyarados.
I arrived at the lake of rage and challenged Gyarados. 3 Headbutt's brought him into the red and 1 Poke ball was enough to catch XD

I'm stopping for today now lol.

team:
Onix lvl 30
Rock throw
headbutt
Screech
Dig

Graveler lvl 30
Rock throw
Magnitude
Fire Punch
Headbutt

Red gyardos lvl 30, standard moves.

minchan February 5th, 2010 12:17 PM

Okay, I got the word "window" so I'll be using a team of Pokemon that know moves like reflect and lightscreen...

Guess I'll be using Chikorita in my team.

I want to participate in this challenge!
Do we have to get assigned a word, or can we choose.

I'll be playing this on Pokemon Yellow, and with an Emulator, since I don't have a gameboy, nor the game.

I might do Crystal as well, if you want to give me another word for that.

Edit: Forgot that GSC stands for Gold/Silver/Crystal. Thought it was for any game from the Game boy era. xD
Sign me up for Crystal then!

yuki3056 February 6th, 2010 4:07 AM

I got the word exclusive so after thinking for a bit I think I will do this challenge using only Johto pokemon on crystal :)

mondays suck February 6th, 2010 4:20 AM

@ Hayley Williams: You could also get yourself a random word, but I can do that as well. Determined by tossing a coin that the word will be an adjective. The generator created the word "sloppy". (stuff like Rattata or Grimer?)

@ yuki3056: I was more thinking about version exclusives when reading that word, since I think there are no real Johto exclusives, they all are somehow availiable in other games. Or do you mean that in a different way?

Alternative February 6th, 2010 4:23 AM

Sloppy seems to be a hard one.
Would that include sloppy pokemon or pokemon who don't perform very well?

Maybe I could get a different word?

mondays suck February 6th, 2010 4:27 AM

Proprietary will probably not work as well, same for recognized. Damn, I keep getting weird words. Rarer should work though.

yuki3056 February 6th, 2010 4:35 AM

Oh I meant like only Johto pokemon like the ones introduced with the series Typhlosion, Donphan, Corsola etc. but if that is no good I will try a different word ^_^

Alternative February 6th, 2010 4:41 AM

Recognized could work. I would say just the more popular Pokemon people would be able to recognize easilyl mostly from the anime, such as Pikachu, Togepi, Geodude, Psyduck, Meowth etc.

Mind if I go with that?

I think what Mondays Suck meant, was that like if you're playing Gold for example, you can use a Mantine, whereas if you're playing Silver, you could use a Vulpix.

mondays suck February 6th, 2010 4:46 AM

@ yuki3056: The problem is that I don't really see how exclusive means Johto-introduced Pokemon. Out of your examples, Typhlosion should be useable though since it's Player-exclusive in these games.

@ Hayley Williams: Recognized=Popular? Of course that would work, I just didn't see that.

Alternative February 6th, 2010 4:50 AM

Okay, so I'm playing along with the theme: Recognized
Can I evolve Pokemon for this (like, if I caught a pikachu, can I evolve it into Raichu, seeing as Raichu isn't that recognizable)

mondays suck February 6th, 2010 5:05 AM

@ Hayley: While Raichu is of course not as well-known as Pikachu, I think (which of course doesn't mean anything, I might be horribly wrong) it's still by far more known than for example Golduck is.
So I'd say it depends on each Pokemon, for example you could evolve Pikachu, but not Psyduck.

@ Yuki: Maybe this could help you with your team building.

yuki3056 February 6th, 2010 5:07 AM

Donphan is a version exclusive as it is not in gold version correct? or were you implying it has to be a one version pokemon?

So I'd say it depends on each Pokemon, for example you could evolve Pikachu, but not Psyduck.

So a team like
- Johto Starter (Bayleef)
- Raichu
- Jigglypuff
- Togepi
- Psyduck
- Beedrill/Geodude

would be acceptable.
In other words, if the Main Protagonists/Antagonists (I'm doing it via anime) have the pokemon, then I can use it correct?

mondays suck February 6th, 2010 5:27 AM

@ Yuki: No, I just overlooked it on your examples, my bad.

@ Hayley: Yes, that would be OK

yuki3056 February 6th, 2010 5:37 AM

okey dokey started my game picked the female character cause I never use her lol and I am not doing naymore gonna look into the exclusive pokemon more before deciding on the team :D

Update:

After catching the red Gyarados, I calculated it's Hidden power, turns out it is Grass, 70 base power. I teached it to him and it prove suefull on my way to Cianwood. I caught a Mantine, but Graveler died in the process. Then later on a trainer, Mantine and Onix died, and Gyaradosses Strenght PP was empty, so i decided to teach him Hidden power to have a good weapon so far.
Entered the gym so I could get HM Fly and go grind up Mantine after.
I beat the gym easily using only Gyarados.
Got HM Fly, but I have no pokemon that can learn it. Why do I have 2 flying types when none of them can learn Fly >=(

Will continue later.

Team:
Mantine lvl 21
Surf
Bubblebeam
Swagger
Headbutt

Graveler lvl 32
Strenght
Rock throw
Magnitude
Fire Punch

Onix lvl 33
rock thwor
Dig
Screech
Strenght

Gyarados lvl 33
Surf
Hidden power grass
Strenght
Attract XD

Finally challenged and beat the Elite 4 now.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/de/WillGSCsprite.pngNo problem at all. He didn't use Psychic against Alakazam and all other moves his Pokemon have are ridiculously weak (yes, even against Alakazam nothing did much) while Alakazam could kill all of his Pokemon by having super-effective moves against their secondary types.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/67/Koga_02.pngAlakazam and Machamp (only for Muk) beat him without any problems at all.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/fd/BrunoGSCsprite.gifHis Onix somehow got a Sandstorm up, because of that Alakazam had like 5 HP left after this battle. But since it's a glass cannon anyways, this did not really matter.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/4/47/GSC_Karen.gifThe only thing that hurt me was Murkrow, because it survived a Strength from Tauros. Houndoom used Roar instead of hurting me, I never knew before it has that move.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/0f/LanceGSCsprite.pngThe only hard one. Took me 4 attempts because of myself being either stupid or unlucky on the first 3 ones. His Gyarados and first 2 Dragonites always got OHKOd. Aerodactyl not. Sudo was my best bet against it, but it often died (I hate flinches), giving Charizard the chance to sweep my remaining team. If Alakazam died, the last Dragonite was a problem as well. When I finally won, I had only Machamp with red HP left.

Team changes:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/d0/Spr_2s_065.png
Lv.39->Lv.44
Gained 5 levels in 5 battles. Need to say more?
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/8/89/Spr_2s_068.png
Lv.41 -> Lv. 44
Leer -> Cross Chop
It actually played a bigger role than the text above says. Mainly against Karen.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/dc/Spr_2s_185.png

Nothing changed.
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/1/15/Spr_2s_128.png
Nothing changed.

Small update:

Challenged the Cianwood gym and beat it With Gyarados using Surf and Hidden power. Surfed back and went into the lightbhouse to give Amphy her medicine. Then I went into the route above Olivine (16 I think, might be wrong) to grind up mantine and I found an Entei! I decided to weaken it since I had no pokeballs left after Mantine. It's Surf did a decent part. Funny thing is that I never ever found Entei in another route before!
I beat team rocket in Mahogany and beat Pryce EASILY using Mantine's Swagger and Headbutt, Surf for Piloswine. Then teached him Icy wind.

Team:
Mantine lvl 35
Surf
Swagger
Heabutt
Icy wind

I love confusion and flinching!

The rest of the team stayed the same, except for a few level-ups

Really original . I'll give it a shot !

My word : Power .

Soooo , use powerful Pokemon which look like "POWER" (Typhlosion , Golem , Dragonite , Pidgeot , Onix ) .

Great. Planned team : Feraligatr , Pidgeot , Graveler , Dragonite , Ampharos . They seem truly powerful ....
