Project Alpha Fan [USERS NEEDED]
1 Attachment(s)
Welcome to Project Alpha Fan, the most intense, complicated, and epic challenge in the history of Pokecommunity.
We are going to break the Guiness World Record for the completion of Pokemon Red/Blue. For this you need the upmost efficiency. People, fans, lovers of Mr. Tajiri's work, I'm calling upon each and every one of you. You see, a few days ago I came across an interesting peice of Data. The current world record for beating the original Pokemon Red/Blue series is currently 1 hour and 59 minutes. Incredible. I was dumbfounded by this information. This record shows how much effort can be put into the game. Imagine how fast his Pokemon leveled up! I'm sure most of you might have already heard about this, but still you must admit that this is truly amazing. Now this record is incredible. I'm sure any Pokemon fan would love to see this in action. But why do that, when you can break the record yourself? I'm not saying we should do because we're better. I'm not saying we should do this for a picture in a book. I'm saying that we should do this, because if we all try the Pokecommunity will earn from it. I'm calling on every Member, Non-Member, Fan, and even the people who hate Pokemon, to try and beat this game as fast as you can. Later we could have themes and threads about how we tried to beat it, even if we didn't. Everybody who participates should have their name on the plaque, because I want everybody who joins to put their tips, their shortcuts, anything that could help the next person on this thread. I don't think, I know that all of us, as a Pokecommunity can show that we will help the next person. We will find a way, even when it looks like we can't go anywhere else; WE WILL FIND A WAY!! This is not impossible! Anything is possible with hard work, cooperation, teammanship, and most importantly friendship. Tell anyone you can to help with this project. Because if you do, you are truly... An Alpha Fan. I would appreciate it if any Moderators would please give me advice on how to accomplish this project. I would like everybody to tell me their ideals on how we can do this. Current Members of Project Alpha Fan; Eeveelutionist Mondays suck Lati-Fan95 rockshock28 Lieutenant Unstable myrrham darkshiek SkittyCrazy 560cool seal. SpawnHyuuga Fire Wolf TehYoshiNinja Ramsie Porygon Z Melvern bandgeek219 Best times so far; SPAWN HYUUGA has acheived 6 hours and 15 minutes on Pokemon Yellow! Good advice; Use a prima guide. This will come in handy during Silph Co. Squirtle as a Starter provides good type combo against gyms and is good for dragon types. Skip Diglett's Tunnel Don't use Flash, you can see the walls of Rock Tunnel without it. Skip most South East routes. Get to Fuschia from Cycling road and Cinnabar from Pallet Town. Be simplistic with your Pokemon choices. Move your most frequently used attack to the front, that way you can press A repeatedly during battle. Use Lapras. It can learn a wide variety of moves and can destroy almost all of the Elite 4 with the proper moveset. Turn battle animation off . Alpha Fan; Good luck to you all, and remember; Gotta Catch em' All! With all regards, -ChrisTom |
This seems like a fun project for the community to participate in. Especially for those Pokemon Color fan boys around. This is placed in the wrong forum, however, so I'll move it to Pokemon Metal and Color Generation for you.
|
That's being a bit ambitious. I still can't imagine how it would be done. Where did you get this information from anyway? Because it really sounds like a tool-assisted speed run. That, in my opinion, would make more sense to do. It shows of technical knowledge and strategy without needing quick thinking. And that way the community would actually be able to work together to achieve this.
In saying that, it would be an entirely different type of teamwork to come up with a plan in words. I support this, but I don't see it taking off quickly, and I also can't see the record being broken. Prove me wrong, guys. Rub it in my face. |
Jakeyboy, I got this information from the "Guinness Book of World Records". So I'm pretty sure it's official. Also he did not use any speed tool whatsoever. He played the game and defeated the Elite 4 without any cheating device whatsoever.
Now Jakeyboy, are you interested in joining? If so, let me know immediately. I would hope that we can beat this Record as a community A.S.A.P. Keep in mind that whoever beats the record (1 Hour 59 Minutes) should have the plaques say not only their name, but "Pokecommunity" as well. I wish you all the best of luck. Sincerely, -ChrisTom |

Can I just watch? This sounds like a blast, but I spend waaay too much time exploring, catching Pokemon, leveling up, and the ilk. I'd love to see if anyone here could do this, though! The fastest I've ever beating one was 30 hours, in Sapphire.
|
Well GoldvsRed, I would still like it if you at least tried. I must say that that is impressive though. 30 hours is a lot quicker than I could ever do. I've always found the plots of Ruby and Sapphire to be complicated.
|
I'd like to try this. I think my neighbor has the games, so I'll see if he will let me borrow them. It took me 18 hours to beat Firered, but I'll try not to dally so long with this game. So, ya I'd like to join.
|
Alright Eeveelutionist. I'm editing you in right now. Please show your best time if you complete it later than 2 Hours and 41 Minutes. Keep in mind that no cheats are allowed.
I give you the best of luck |
I might give this a try, though I would be astonished if I managed to finish it even under 5 hours.
I will try this as a Squirtle line solo, since the Bulbasaur line seems to have serious problems with Ghosts and the Charmander line has a lot of problems early on due to type disadvantages, while Blastoise gets EQ and Ice Beam to beat things that might cause problems. |
Alright "Mondayssuck" I'll sign you up right now. Btw, I think that using Squirtle will be pretty good. I wish you the best of luck.
|
Oh boy, I only read this and I'm feeling over-motivated enough to to this!^^ I'm in! I'm gonna try it when I'm done with my internship report and my brown run (both won't take me that long!^^) !^^ One question: Is the Missingno-Glitch allowed? i don't think I'll need it, though, but it'd be no cheat since it is in-game...
|
No Lati-fan95, the missingno. cheat is not allowed. But thank you for your participation! I'll sign you up right now. Please post your best times, and any tips ou have.
Btw, good luck with your Internship Report! |
Quote:
Yeah, I'm done with my 10 sites-long internship report but the brown poke league takes longer than expected... I'm gonna grind a lot tomorrow so that I can finish this off quick!^^ But I made up my mind on how to get fast through R/B and I found some good things I'd like to share: -Skip Diglett Tunnel. Training a Diglett is too hard (it doesn't learn very much...), and Flash isn't very useful in R/B/Y (you can see every wall in Rock Tunnel, so I don't think there's a need for Flash)!^^ -Skipping the eastern route of Vermillion will buy some time, too. -There are two Snoralxes in Kanto (everyone knows that, I guess...) : One at the town with Erika and the game corner (dunno the english name, german is Prismania!^^), the secound one is at the "Fisher Route" southern of Lavender. Forget about the Fisher Route, only own the Prismania Snorlax and go down Cycling road. -Skip every part around Fuchsia, they are all optional!^^ -Forget about the bird's locations (Power Plant, Seafoam Islands and the part of Victory Road with Moltres) -The most important HMs are Cut, Strength and Surf, Fly'd be good, too, it can buy us time in several situations. For Cut a Bellsprout would be best, for Fly a Pidgey would be suitable and Blastoise will cover Strength and Surf (they're okay at R/B/Y) !^^ -Maybe a Solo-Run with the starter as a battler all alone...? -Don't buy the Magikarp (although i do that in every Red or Blue run...) !^^ What do you think about these? |
You sound edumacated. I'll take that advice...
|
Quote:
Thanks!^^ I've played red and Blue like 10.000 times when i was a child, I can tell you every little tile and most pokemon locations by the top of the heart!^^ Well, there must be a way we can get more spare time...^^ Maybe a regular playthrough with no skips and 2 or more fighters to figure out a good strategy isn't that bad...^^ Maybe I'm gonna mark a Wolrldmap with skippable areas (Yeah, if I really want to, I can be quite energic!^^)... Maybe skipping the 2nd Green/Blue battle isn't a bad idea, it's optional!^^ We should figure out the fastest way through Silph Co. !^^ The whole warpers can be confusing, so maybe a really detailled play through Silph would really help us out. Maybe that seems a little freakish, but we should fugure out the fastest way through every map!^^ And the bicycle should be used very often... Well, I better stop here, you all should get a chance to share some ideas with us!^^ And don't forget: If a man or a woman yells loud enough, they can do ANYTHING!^^ EDIT: The worldmap is done!^^ These two points are Diglett Tunnel... If you can think of another skipable area, post it and I'll update the worldmap!^^ (Red=Skipable!^^) http://i60.servimg.com/u/f60/14/00/46/05/worldm10.gif |
I almost have Silph Co.'s map down by ♥, but I always forget where to get the key card.
How did you post that map? It'd be a helpful way to show how to get through Silph Co. quickly. |
Wow, everyone is pumped for this.
Good luck to all. It would be cool for The PokeCommunity to be in the Guiness Book of World Records. Try hard, and have fun. |
Wow! Alot of people are posting one this! This event is turning out way better than expected. Okay Lati I'm editing in your tips right now. Also are you in Germany? I figured because you said that Celadon City is called Prismania in German.
As for Silph Co., I have a copy of the old prima guide. If you can look it up on the internet. You only need to fight 2 people with the exception of Blue and Giovanni. After getting the key card you need to go to the third floor. You will have to fight a scientist, but after that you are all set! I wish you all the best of luck! |
I finally got started now.
As planned, I chose Squirtle, and as planned, I somehow managed to beat that Bulbasaur, this first battle took me longer than expected though. After 2 or 3 more random battles and 2 Pokemon Center visits, I was at Viridian after having finished the Parcel Quest. In Viridian Forest, I only fought the last trainer with the level 9 Weedle. Beating him was actually quite difficult, since it was equally strong to my level 7 Squirtle and could poison it. On my second attempt, it preferred String Shot, so I could beat it. One Kakuna and one Pokemon Center visit later, it was time to challenge Brock's underling (I'm needing the Exp). At the end, Squirtle was at level 11 and had 3 HP left. I used a Potion and challenged Brock. Easily beat him even though he got 2 crits. Went back to the Pokemon Center, healed and saved. Currently:http://i45.*.com/f2khzo_th.pnghttp://i47.*.com/wccscg_th.png That's not too bad, I hope. |
WOW!! Good job Mondayssuck! You're taking real initiative. Btw, 1st badge in 14 MINUTES??? That is insane! I'm really proud of you, keep up the good work! Also at this rate (1 badge per 14 minutes, and assuming elite 4 takes you that long.) you should beat it in....
2 hours and 6 minutes, well under 2 hours and 41 minutes. I'm not expecting that, but it would be pretty good. By the way, if I may post a tip; Try and move the moves you use the most in the front. That way you can just press A over and over again! |
This is AMAZING. I only own Crystal right now though, and an SP without a Charger.
(Well I own a DS too lol, but that's beside the point) I'd participate if I could but alas...I don't have the game. =/ Now my boyfriend may want to do that, I'll talk to him and if he's up for it I'll post his info using my account unless he decides to make his own (but he's not much of a forum person) I'll get back to you on it though. I'm efinitely tracking this though, this is so epic! |
Cool AutumnLynxLove! I hope you can persuade your Boyfriend! Keep in mind I would prefer people to use the actual games, not just ROMs. In technicality they're ok, but I'd prefer the actual game, that way it seems more legit.
I continue to wish you all the best of luck! |
Call me Auto, lol. I'm talking to him tonight so I'll let you know ASAP
|
You can count me in. When do we start?
Never mind, I don't own it, I was going to ROM it. |
Well, RockShock28, you can start at anytime you want. And in case nobody heard my previous post:
I would prefer if you used the actual game, but if you ABSOLUTELY can't then use the ROM. Seriously, I'd much rather you get it off eBay or something. Anyways, I'm signing you up right now rockshock28. Please post your best times. |
Quote:
Und ja, ich bin deutsch!^^ Ich glaub nicht, dass du das hier verstehst deswegen uebersetze ich dir's ma!^^ And yes, I'm german!^^ I don't think you'll understand that und that's why I translated it in English (I know... I've changed a bit of the sentence!^^) !^^ |
Im feeling frisky, so I would love to do this! I'm just getting back into the GB/GBC games and am feeling confident. Is it ok if I join?
I would definitely try for a single Squirtle run. He's my favorite Pokemon anyway, so that works out perfectly! ^_^ |
Alright LieutenantUnstable (from now on I'll call you "Lt. Unstable" sorry!) I'm signing you up right now.
Everybody please post your tips and any progress you have made so far! I am very happy that so many people are signing up! We can beat this record! |
I'd love to give it a shot. Something that I would advise is: try to get pokemon that can learn 4 strong moves of useful types. For example, Lapras can learn Surf, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Psychic. I would want to start with Charmander, but that makes the beginning of the game really hard. It seems though that the entire game is very beatable with a Lapras that knows the above moveset, a Charizard with Earthquake, Flamethrower, Strength, and Cut, and a Pidgeot with Wing Attack or Fly. If you only use these three pokemon, you shouldn't have to get any HM *****s. So, you basically only need one pokeball to beat the game, as Lapras is an event pokemon. This means you can save up/sell things to get more potions and repels, which are going to be very important to reduce wild pokemon encounters. If there was only a way to get past the beginning of the game easily.

I have a tip which I think would speed things up. Go to OPTIONS and switch BATTLE ANIMATION to OFF. In my opinion, it saves time in the long run! I'm excited about this. I'm going to start my run sometime tomorrow evening, when I know I'll be able to sit down without distractions. =D |
Quote:
I played through my first hour just now. Strangely enough, I got past Brock no problem. Something like 20 minutes. But then I slowed down for some reason, whether it being the length of Mt. Moon + wild encounters + lots of trainer battles or not. Anyways, I got to Cerulean, beat Rival, visited Bill, and then skipped the 2nd Gym. I figure that I'm going to have to be in Cerulean again when I get my bike, might as well make it easier on myself. So I skipped ahead to the SS Anne. I beat that and got cut, and now I'm right outside of the 3rd gym with a level 25 Charmeleon that knows Dig. The hardest part should be finding the right switches. So, although I only have 1 badge right now, I'm really close to two more, and since Charmeleon is getting to the point that he can 1 hit a few things, I'm thinking its going to get a whole bunch easier from here. |
Sorry myrrham. I'll sign you up now. You sound like you know what you're doing, and I can't wait to see more from you. If I may make a suggestion though:
Get a Haunter for your team. They are very good and can learn Grass and Electric type moves. Also throw in a Poison move in there and you should have: Mega Drain Thunderbolt Sludge Night Shade Good luck to you all! |
Tom,
Should I replace my Lapras with a Haunter? It seems to me that I would have to train it too much, and since we can't use the Missingno glitch, both Lapras and Haunter can't have thunderbolt on them. And plus, if I have a Haunter, that just means that much more experience that my two other pokemon don't get. I looked over the gym list and elite four list, and it looks like almost every pokemon is weak to electric, water, psychic, ice, fire, or ground. I don't know guys, do you really think haunter is necessary? Edit: I got bored today, but didn't want to go on yet in my speed run. So, I decided that I would do some planning for the future. I tried to find a giant world map, but couldn't so I went to serebii and downloaded all the maps individually. I combined them into one giant world map, and drew on it the path I would be taking. I now know exactly which trainers I would be fightiing (ones that I have a type advantage on and can hopefully one hit), which items to pick up, every exact step i need to take. I think this would be a good idea for all of us, to try to familiarize ourselves more with the game. For instance, I always be sure to take two steps off the path in viridian city to grab the hidden potion. |
I offer the best of luck to you all! I would attempt it but I don't have the games except when I randomly get the ROM's but even then I wouldn't be able to do it that quick as I love my training and such. Also I get distracted from the games easily
|
myrrham, I'm not neccessarily saying you should replace Lapras with Haunter. I wasn't suggesting that at all! But I think it would be a nice last resort. Also, it might help with Agatha.
|
Haunter doesn't get any good poison moves (only Toxic I think, and that's nothing for speed runs... Actually it's nothing for something offensive like Haunter at all), but Psychic would be a good option for it, since with Haunter's already good Special and the overpoweredness of the Psychic-type in these games, things should be easy.
|
Alright, my neighbor didn't have the game. I'm just on pause until I can get my hands on a game.
Sorry all!! |
I'm going to be taking a short break from the speed run. I'm doing a water mono type challenge in all the games, so i thought if I'm going to have a perfect speed run of blue, I would need to know exactly which trainers to battle. So, I'm doing the blue water mono challenge, and I'm going to look out for trainers to avoid, or ones that use Pokemon that I can easily beat. But, I'm doing the mono run on an emulator, so I'll be done tomorrow or so.
|
Okay, I wish you all the best of luck! I won't be checking in again until Tuesday. For more information go to my profile.
|
Seems interesting! I want to be an Alpha fan, but I don't have Red or Blue version, a friend of mine has Yellow version, does that count? I will borrow his Gameboy and Pokémon Yellow, if I can. Well, that's pretty much all.
|
mmmmkay, done with my mono blue run. Now that I'm familiar with the map, I should be back on the Alpha Team in the morning. The map that I made is now complete with a list of every trainer I will be fighting, along with their pokemon. So now, I know when I can get away with only using a Potion instead of going to the Pokecenter. Am I going insane with this? You bet! Will this help us get the record? I hope so!!
|
Lance, he has cool hair; no unevolved pokemon; Gyrados which does get hit super effective by dragon.
All in all, Lance is pwnpwn |
I have a question. Did the boy currently holding the record set that record using an emulator or a gameboy? Cause the VisualBoy Advance's speed-up button is ridiculously fast for GBC games. That might be what got him to beat the game so quickly.

|
Oh, if emulators aren't allowed then I can't participate in this.
Ah well, good luck all! |
Can anyone please help me with my problem?
|
I'd like to throw my hat in the ring...is Pokemon Yellow acceptable, or R/B only? (I'll bookmark this topic, and check it later. I have blue too, so...)
If Yellow, I'm in. @ Synaesthesia: The speed-up option would also speed up the in-game time, making such a thing irrelevant. |
I'm pretty sure that you can't do yellow. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can't.
|
EVERYBODY HOLD ON!!!
I'm back. From WDW. Epic Win for "it's a small world" ride. Tea Cups were good too, but the voice on the ride sounded nothing like Alice. The point is... I'M BACK!! So hold your horses and I'll answer your questions one at a time. Darkmartio: In all technicality Yellow IS okay, but I prefer red or blue, because there are more events in Yellow, which will slow you down. Nikorasu: I have no Idea what you are talking about. I think you should make sure this is the thread you wanted. Myrrham: Thank you for answering the person above you(I don't have time to copy and paste the name) But the world record was not beat in emulator. But... Synaesthesia: (there we go!) You CAN BY ALL MEANS USE AN EMULATOR!! I don't want you to, but if you absolutely have no other options, then that is fine by me. Since I am assuming you've disregarded this thread, I will be sure to notify you on your account. SpawnHyuuga: Thank you for sharing your logic about the speed up. I was about to say the same thing. Since you've recquisitioned so nicely to use Yellow, I will allow it. But once more I prefer that all participants use Red/Blue for GameBoy. I do not wish for there to be Emulators, but once more if you've tried all other options you may. Thank you all for your grandiose interest. If you wish to participate please say so. I look forward to beating this record with all of you! With all regards, -ChrisTom |
Tom,
If we're going to beat this record, I think we'll have to do it in such a fashion that our times can be somewhat replicated. What I'm saying is that we're probably not going to shatter the record by some fluke. We'll have to have a strategy that we do every single run. What I'm doing right now is playing on emulator, trying to figure out the best things to do. I have a GBA and a copy of blue, but sometimes the start button doesn't work. So I'm probably going to end up doing both of them, and taking my better time. |
Myrrham, think about it like this:
If I win the Super Bowl, do you think that is something I can do several times? I know you want it to be replicated, but it is way too complicated to do such. The randomness of the A.I., Wild Pokemon, and Moves is way too advanced to duplicate. It took me about 28 times (literally) before I defeated the Hoenn Elite 4. Now there already is a strategy. Looking through some of the tips, you can see that we are saving a lot of time. The Prima Guide, lack of "Flash", Skipping entire sections of Kanto. I am still very excited and hope to see more With all regards, -ChrisTom |
Thanks, God! Bad news and good news:
Bad news: MY FRIEND Pokemon's Yellow IS in bad conditions, such as the imposibility to save and it freezes. Good news: I could download an emulator! |
I actually have ran through faster than that. :< But however, it was on an emulator. I don't know if there is a big difference. My final team was:
As simple as a LV53 Charizard, and 5 HM slaves. |
Do you know where I can download Pokemon Red?
|
I'm not in USA. I don't have a GBA
Which emulator should I download? |
Use VBA Emu.
Sorry Darkmartio, figure it out from there. I can't walk you through step by step. |
Thanks, just wanted to know that.
|
Yeah, just get VBA and find a ROM somewhere and you should be good to go.
|
Yes! I just now downloaded Pokemon Ruby, Red and Gold on the VBA! Thanks guys!
|
That's great Darkmartio! Please try and help us!
|
Sure! Just for you! What's the record for Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal? And Ruby? We can beat those too!
|
Tom,
Just because I'm curious, how did you find this record? Is there any more information other than the fastest time beating blue version was 2:41? |
Well to be completely honest...
I was in the bookstore one day, found the "Guiness Book of World Records 2009: Video Game Edition" And found the record time for some games. Pokemon Red/Blue was finished in 2 hours, and 41 Minutes by an Australian Boy, whose name I can't remember. The next time I go though, I will be sure to right down all possible information. They did not give much data. Now on a different note... I would like more of you to be posting your progress. This includes you Mondays suck. I was looking forward to your further posts but you haven't posted for a while now. Myrrham, I'd like to hear more of your progress as well. Thank you all for your hardwork and dedication. With all regards, -ChrisTom |
Lol, interesting way to come across this whole project ;)
And yeah, I should be active again, I was actually doing one of my like 12 challenges that I signed up for (Sapphire mono: water) but I just finished, and next on my list was more Alpha Fan! I've been working really hard on beginning to Brock, now I'm going to start working from Brock to Misty. Since I'm trying to start with Charmander, if I can only get past these two gyms, I should be good to go. So far, my best time from start to Brock was 20 minutes, almost twice that of the other Alpha Fan that posted his time, but again, that's pretty reasonable, as I'm starting with a Charmander and will have a much easier time after the first two badges (dig on surge, flamethrower on erika, power through sabrina with earthquake, earthquake and psychic on koga, surf and earthquake on blaine, surf and psychic on giovanni). So, while this time is worse than that of the best Squirtle run, I'm pretty confident that I can make up lost time later in the game. |
Alright great job Myrrham! I can't wait to hear more from you.
|
Woohoo new personal best for beating brock! it was like 17:40 or something like that. I'm going to put the videos on youtube now, name is mexierreman.
|
All right, first two videos are up. Beginning to brock. Name is Mexierreman. You should check them out.
|
Hmm, I might try it. I'll let you know if I decide to. The only thing is, it takes me a long time to finish Pokemon games. The fastest time I had without hacking (I had already beaten it twice, I was bored!) is 22 hours and 9 minutes on Platinum. Also, I only have access to an emulated copy. However, I have already started the game (not very far though) with Bulbasaur and can jump in and do it quickly if I decide to join.
|
Alright, I have news.
I am going to try and beat this record now. Right now. I am going to play until I beat it. I have the prima guide. I have your advice. And I am confident that I can beat the record. I would still like you all to try. I'm not completely sure I can do it, but I am as optimistic and confident as possible. I have enjoyed this experience and I'm going to jump right into it. I will probably not stop until I beat it. I am fond of all of you. Yes bigNATEAlpha I am signing you up. I am excited and will give news on my time when I complete it. With all regards, -ChrisTom |
Good luck! Oh well, I'll try too!
|
Alright, I've got 1 bit of Good news and and 2 bits of Bad news. The Good news is that I'm making great time on the game, and so far I've gotten to the end of Mt.Moon in about 31 minutes. The bad news is that I'm out of batteries. The other bad news is that the Guinness World Record forms are the most bureacratic pieces of text on the face of the planet. So if anybody here is good with bureacratic stuff like that it would be much appreciated. So as of right now I am going to have to temporarily discontinue my work until I get more batteries. Sorry, about that. Please continue posting your progression.
With all regards, -ChrisTom Here are my Pokemon, and their status: Squirtle LVL 14 Bubble Tail whip Tackle Pidgey LVL 13 Gust Quick Attack |
I'm interested in running this. I'll be playing with ROMs until I have my path down, if I do any good I'll erase blue. I also have the 08 Guinness Gamer's Book.
I have it as Ben Goldberg with a time of 2:09. Found the Video of his Run! http://www.archive.org/details/PokemonRed_209 |
Well, there goes 30 minutes of time we could have wasted. I have a question, though. It says that he did it in like 39 segments, correct? Isn't the record we're going for done in one single segment? Obviously it would be much easier if we could break the game up in pieces, but I thought we could only do it in one.
Edit: I should be speed running on Monday. That will give me a good 2 days of preparation. |
The 39 segments allow for error. Such as, if he were too black out in a battle (as he probably did with Brock), he could restart. And according to Guinness, it's Legit. So it can be done in several segments.
|
...
... Holy #### Wow. We had no clue... How the hell?.... Excuse my language. I just can not simply believe this. This is insane! It's almost as he planned every step. I've only seen the first video and I feel like... wow. I mean, it is genius. He nicknamed everything one letter, to save scroll time. He didn't even bother to move to grab a different starter, just to be slightly quicker. It's as if he knows every nook and cranny of the game. But... This still is not impossible! We can beat this guy! 2 Hours and 9 minutes? He doesn't know who he's up against! This will be done! I swear upon it that his record will be beaten! Thank you so much darkshiek for bringing this to my attention! |
Not a problem. He moves on to get Dig. I sorta stopped watching at Charizard.
|
There was another video of a Blue speedrun on that site:
1 hour, 36 minutes. It was glitch assisted but I find that ridiculous... Also, I didn't know that x accuracy made a move hit everytime! That fissure trick would be so useful haha. I have no idea how in the world someone can beat the e4 with a bunch of lvl 15s and a lvl 52. But I saw it so theres no denying haha... Still 0_o There is hope, as I saw a few places where he made a couple of errors like scrolling down one too many places. He also had to reset nearly 100 times in one spot just to avoid encounters. I find that insane, I wouldn't be able to do something like that lol |
YESH! I just beaten Chuck in Gold! Woot!
In other news, I tried to speed run red. TOTAL FAIL. I am very bad in red but I rock in Gold. |
Honestly, I think that being able to have breaks in the game for error will make the 2:04 record much easier to get than the 2:41 record. I mean, we really just have to get a little bit luckier than he did, or mess up like one less time. Come on guys, we can definitely do this now.
|
Alright, so I have some news. I have e-mailed the holder of the record shown by darkshiek, and asked for his help and advice. If all goes well he will be on this thread helping us.
|
Holy SHAMWOW! That record's amaaaaaazing. But, I never rly understood how it took people to beat a pokemon game so long. My first pokemon game was ruby and i used to restart it every once in a while. On my 4th restart or so(lol) I beat the game in 7hrs and something minutes. it was like 7 hrs and 53mins if im sure.

Hey this is Ben Goldberg. I just wanted to let everyone know that the current record is actually 1:59. The video is available here... speeddemosarchive DOT com/PokemonRedBlue.html
The best advice I can give is to watch the video and see all the little tricks I used. Also, there's good info for saving time over my run in this thread... speeddemosarchive DOT com/forum/index.php?topic=1135.0 I hope this helps! |
AAAH!!
Omg!! :D *turns into blubbering fan* This is so cool! Thank you so much for helping us! We appreciate you for inspiring us, and for giving us all of your help. Now if there are any more tips you have for us please post them! I must say, this is absolutely extreme what you have done and I appreciate you taking the time to help. With all regards, -ChrisTom |
Oh thanks. 1:59. JUST GREAT.
|
I definitely want to try this! It sounds really fun... To at least make the attempt.
I wonder when I should start? Maybe... Later. Since I want to try it in one sitting... And since HGSS comes out tomorrow... X_X I think I'll see how far I can get (and how fast) right now! I'll just... Download the ROM... |
Alright SkittyCrazy. I'm signing you up right now. Post all advice and progress you've made. You can start anytime you want.
|
Well, I'm not really patient enough to go through these old games without my VBA fast forward, which means my gametime is generally pretty high. That, and I'd rather preserve my Blue at it's current state. So I won't be "competing."
Also, current record is 1:59, is it not? Says 2:09 in the main post. |
Good luck everyone. Sadly this thread is the only reason the play GB/GBC
|
First of all, a big soory to you, Chris. I really forgot about this project whle I was playing through the Rijon trilogy... Sorry...^^ Okay, after my three tests this week, and my Luminous Yellow run (pretty short, not meant to be mean, NK since it's a beta...^^) , the next thing I'm gonna do is the Alpha Fan project!^^ I'm gonna try doing this on my Blue but my bro doesn't want to delete his team (can undertsand him, the team is pure awesomeness!^^) so I guess I'll go for an emu. Well, is Green allowed, too?^^
|
Yes lati-fan95, Green is allowed. It's fine that you've been a while. And as for the Rijon trilogy, my favorite was Prism in Nal'jo. I wished he finished it. Per chance, did you see the secret message in Rijon? Lol. Koolboyman, you are funny.

Well, I'm gonna VM you about the last thing since this thread could be closed with too much off-topic stuff!^^ |
yeah we really should get back on topic.
I am still astounded how in one segment he walks into mt. moon, runs into a paras and catches it automatically, and doesn't run into any other wild pokemon. i'm not saying that he cheated, but seriously, how are we supposed to compare to that? |
We've got to at least try myrrham! That's the entire point of this thread. You can't give up. You've got to TRY!!
If you don't try then there is no reason to give up. I know this seems impossible, but try before giving up. This thread is half-dead at this point because we're talking about what DID happen, not what will happen! We can do this! I know we can. And you know we can too. With all regards, -ChrisTom |
This is how, when I was about 3, I used to complete these games. Don't train up, just use your starter pokemon all the way through. I know this isn't the best way to complete a pokemon game but its the quickest. Also, skip the second rival battle, that is unnecessary.
|
Sorry guys, I wasn't planning on giving up. I guess the good news is we can do it in as many segments as we want.
Does anyone know a good movie making program to put the segments together with? |
Windows Movie Maker. Its on every computer;)
|
would it be ok if i belatedly join project Alpha?
You could use dig to get out of caves and large buildings like silph co. and use teleport when you need a pokemon center. |
I've been tempted to join this ...
I DO ! And I have some ideas : I'll extract ALL the maps out of the ROM and draw out the shortest patch of working , I'll use Venusaur (STARTER PWNS) !! Great . I'll post later some maps with big red lines on them which mark the shortest path ! NONE BEATS US ! NONE BEATS POKECOMMUNITY !! -560cool. |
Alright 560cool and seal. I'll sign you both up right now. Thank you 560cool for your wanting to post maps. If all goes well I'll put a section in the first post showing all of them. I am proud of everyone's eagerness. Good luck to you all.
With all regards, -ChrisTom |
