Sora no Woto discussion

Anybody that's been following the series knows that things just got awesome with episode 7. Anybody that's not watching... what's wrong with you? Go watch episodes 1-6 here. And be excited for episode 7 when it gets released next Monday, because it's awesome.

So let's get some speculation started.

Spoiler:
Who do you think the soldier was talking about when he mentioned "they?" A lot of people seem to be thinking that "they" are some sort of bird-alien things, like we saw in the water in the first episode. But what if they were really genetically developed by one of the sides in the war, and just got out of control? From what we've seen, I think they definitely had the technology to do that sort of thing...

Also, does anybody think there was significance to them finding a fish in ep5 (or whatever episode)? We learned that the oceans were dead this episode; does this mean that the world isn't dying as much as we thought?

First episode for me was a bit boring, and I never got around to watching anymore after that. How awesome after the first one did it get? I appreciate the very high production quality, music, and art, but dialogue was too bland, and it's something very important to this kind of anime series.

I've seen about four episodes, and I'm loving this show so far. It seems to have a lot of heart, and most notably, an amazing setting. It really is starting to make me wonder if it's going to end up as a sweet slice-of-life with a wonderful setting, or if it's actually going to carry out a plot.. I'd be happy with it either way.

The quality of the show is a plus, and I'm thankful that the characters are as vibrant as they are.

Well, one episode isn't going to save the entire series if you genuinely don't like it. However, episode 7 made it go from about an 8.5 to a 9.75 in my book, which is quite a feat.

It's not going to end up as a sweet slice-of-life unless they do serious backpedaling after episode 7, which would be a bad idea (given the extremely positive reaction to ep7).

This show is so bland it's actually entertaining. I'm laughing to myself when half an episode goes by and the characters haven't done or said anything that wasn't an attempt to make them look cute/incompetent. And the silly mix of a generic European setting with a random smattering of Japanese names, items and attitudes is hilarious. These moe shows can actually be fun if you've got the right mindset.

You haven't watched episode 7 yet. Have fun going back and watching the first 6 episodes again after you do.

Just watched episode 7 and it wasn't really any different. Even with the "darker" edge to the episode it still ended on a lighthearted note and the characters are still pretty cardboard-y without much motivation or development.

As for speculation, it seems like one of those we-nearly-destroyed-the-world-with-our-horrible-technology kind of stories so your guess seems about right.

I wouldn't exactly call the ending "lighthearted." In fact, if anything, I think Felicia's words hinted at the fact that she may die later in the series; she found her meaning, I think there's no question she'd die to protect it.
