Hello, darling, how are you today?

Lately I've found myself calling absolutely everyone "darling." It's Jeremy's sweetie disease spreading, no doubt. So my question to you: Have you ever found yourself calling everyone by a certain word? If so, what was the word you were calling everyone? Were you doing it purposely, or was it sort of like word-vomit (Mean Girls reference, darlings), coming out without any control? Sweetie, darling, hun, babe... whatever it may be. How do you feel after it?

As for myself, whenever I call people darling, I feel my heart, like, lift up a bit from whatever may be dragging it down.

Franceschi February 19th, 2010 9:25 AM

I've found myself calling everyone 'bby' or 'bb': both online and offline. It might be because of how informal it seems to be now, but I also feel comfortable using it. Although sometimes people are like, "Excuse me? /gives weird look", a majority of the time my friends take it in good spirit and say the same back to me. :B

RYOUKI February 19th, 2010 9:40 AM

Oh, man. People have been calling me darling in two different languages! Even boys, for heaven's sake. It's quite funny actually.

I never found myself calling everyone a certain name, 'cause frankly it's quite weird.

Ayselipera February 19th, 2010 9:48 AM

I too am a user of darling. I never use it online, but I throw it around a lot in real life.
I have a habit of calling my brother idiot jerk. From Andy Milonakis of course. :D

Timbjerr February 19th, 2010 9:56 AM

Endearing pet names? The only one I use fairly regularly is 'buddy', even to people I don't even know. XD

I have a couple of negative ones that I throw around a lot...calling people 'stupidiots' and 'assnuggets' are a fairly common occurance if I'm agitated at something. :P

TrinityLimit February 19th, 2010 3:33 PM

i say hun sometimes, and people assume that im a female :3. i'm not though ehe :P
hmm maybe i'm a bit too friendly.... lol.

Anxiety. February 19th, 2010 3:48 PM

Mate, BB, Sweetie

Strangely, I only use Sweetie when I'm angry. And I use Mate and BB when I'm happy.

Jesus oƒ Suburbia February 19th, 2010 3:52 PM

O. Mate.
O. Sweetie; I use that as an insult, by the way.

Well, that's pretty much it..
Later, mate~

Jordan February 19th, 2010 4:35 PM

Online? Yeah, I've been using..."endearing" nicknames lately too, but they vary from "sweetheart" to "hun." In real life? Not so much because it's awkward at all times if I say such names.

Synaesthesia February 19th, 2010 4:41 PM

I call all the guys "bro" now for some reason.. and I've used it so much that I make the mistake of calling a girl a bro haha. They get pissed. lolol

Saltare. February 20th, 2010 8:24 AM

I use "hon" a lot now that I think about it...and at school, me and Deondre, Michael and Paul will say to eachother "What you lookin' at kemosabe?"

ArcanineOod February 20th, 2010 8:34 AM

Online and offline I've started calling everybody an endearing name. Usually 'hun' or 'my dear', but sometimes 'sweetie'.

Sometimes it's automatic, but mostly I choose to do it. It's fun and makes me feel happy. ^_^
xX

Alexithymia~ February 20th, 2010 8:37 AM

Every girl I know hates being called "babe". It's just... eww, no. Horrible. Horrible.

"Sweetie" makes my skin crawl. u_u "Sweetheart" however, does not.

I don't usually call people cute little names but I went through a phase of calling people "dear" :D

Houndoom19 February 20th, 2010 8:39 AM

I call guys mate, and girls love. But I'm british, it's what we do. I use sweetie when I'm being patronising as well, but that's not really the same thing.

Legobricks February 20th, 2010 9:51 AM

I sometimes call people 'dear' online, irrespective of whether or not they are in fact dear to me.
IRL, nothing, just their name.

emoBill™ February 20th, 2010 1:35 PM

I went through a "hon" phase where pretty much everyone in the world was "hon". It was really weird, now that I think about it. I've stopped doing that.

But after I wrote some really effed-up stories on another website that were based off of Lady GaGa's songs, I started to call my reviewers my "little monsters". It just sort of happened, and I stuck with it, and now they're used to me calling them that, and some of them even call me "mommy monster". Which is pretty dang neat.

Honest February 21st, 2010 8:56 AM

"Hun" or "Baby" for me. : P

Well, only when I talk to girls... as for guys, I really don't use a certain word. Just use there names. : )

Shadow Sneak Sableye February 22nd, 2010 5:50 AM

I never really called anyone by a pet name. It seems kinda weird and I don't want it to be awkward. X)

Lucy Lu February 22nd, 2010 7:37 PM

I don't call anyone by endearing names. Other people usually will call me those. Mostly like "sweetie" and "sweetheart" because I am a nice person. And I look very young for my age like a little girl. So they will call me those and I really don't mind. ^^

Ninja Caterpie February 23rd, 2010 12:53 AM

I usually just call people by their names, but if I'm trying to break their stream of talk or grab their attention..."Dude! DUDE! DUUUUDE!"

I just realised I don't call...

nevermind.

Klippy February 23rd, 2010 11:15 AM

I usually say, "buddy", "bro", "dude" or "man". "Hey buddy, sup bro, hey dude, hey man" And to girls, I just don't use a word...XD;

Sammi February 23rd, 2010 11:51 AM

Not really, I don't think. Closet thing I could think of is maybe "dude", or "guys" for a group of people, but typically I'll call people by name before a word. Certainly nothing cutesy, at that.

Daydream February 23rd, 2010 2:12 PM

I often call people "darling" "dearie" or "muh dear." The girls don't mind so much, and my straight guy friends are used to it now. xD

Hiidoran February 24th, 2010 10:55 AM

Online, I have a bad habit of referring to everyone as "m'boy" or "m'dear." Not entirely sure why or when I began using those terms, but it must have stuck with me. I've also caught myself calling people "hun" a lot here lately, but I suppose it does let people know you're friendly. Or creepy. Either works for me, really.

Offline, I tend to have special terms for people who annoy me. It starts with dip, and y'all can fill in the rest with your imaginations. :D

Yuoaman February 24th, 2010 11:11 AM

I've recently been calling people "silly geese" both on- and off-line, which makes no sense, but it's fun. :P

"Oh you're a silly goose."

See!
