Monotype Challenge-- Red/Blue

Seeing as though all of the previous R/B monotype threads have died off, I figured it's time for a new one ^_^

Rules
1. You may only use Pokemon of the type you have specified
2. This is not a race so take your time if you'd like!
3. The first Pokemon of your type must be caught before defeating Lt. Surge (this means no cheating with Diglett!)
4. No glitches whatsoever (no, you cannot use Mew for a psychic challenge) ONE EXCEPTION: You can only use Mew for an HM slave as it can learn em all. But no battling with it, it must be kept at level seven at all times
5. Dual types are allowed
6. No legendary Pokemon
7. If the Pokemon you choose evolves into your type (Charmander->Charizard for flying), you can use it
8. No trading unless it is to evolve a Pokemon
9. HM slaves are allowed (2 maximum), but you CANNOT use them in battles, especially for the Elite Four
10. You may use a type even if someone else has started a challenge with it
11. Emulators are acceptable, and you may use the spacebar for speeding up grinding
12. Dragon Pokemon will not be included as the only one is Dratini, obtainable much too late
13. Please update posts once every few gyms... Or every gym if you feel so inclined ^_^
14. Your challenge ends after defeating the Elite Four (But feel free to keep playing :D)
15. HAVE FUN

If you have any questions on the rules or the challenge feel free to VM me or post it on this thread.

Alright peoples, dig up that dusty Red/Blue you haven't played in forever and get cracking! It should be alot of fun :D

Atlas February 19th, 2010 8:08 PM

This sounds quite interesting. I'm debating whether I should pull out the old emu' and run through.

Sign me up for the "poison" type.

Also, do you mind me using the yellow game, or is that a no-go? I'm just going to start on yellow, and if I'm told otherwise, i'll switch. The early game isn't bad to redo on an emulator.

Mmm I'd prefer it be on red or blue for consistancy's sake. Thanks for signing up though :D

Atlas February 19th, 2010 8:46 PM

Ok, I'm switching to blue now.

Anyways, it's slightly annoying that I can't get an Arbok and a Victreebel on the same game.

Edit:

Player: ATLAS
Rival: SEMP

Starter: BULBORB/Bulbasaur
Reason: Grass/Poison Type

Hehe, forgot losing to even a wild pokemon cut your money in half in this version. I was careless and landed with only 750 money left when I got to being able to buy pokeballs.

Caught a Nidoran(Female) and named her GOOBLE, and then a Nidoran(Male) and named him THOR. I love how the male version learns Horn Attack at lv 9, a move that is both powerful and where the female learns Scratch... Leaving her with both scratch and tackle.

Lol, caught and banked a Pikachu out of novelty. I caught a Weedle but forgot to name it, so i'm going to deposit it too. Also, clefairy caught and banked.

I can't seem to really skip over these slightly rare Pokemon, lol.

Defeated my rival by switching to BULBORB to leech seed his Charmander and then to GOOBLE to kill it. THOR had leveled to 22 during the battle, and I didn't want to take the chances with him leveling again. At 23, Nidoking learns the most epic move in the game, in my opinion. I love how they nerfed thrash in the later versions, making it hit only 2-3 times rather than 3-5.

Once my rival finished walking away, I used the moon stone on THOR. And then I remembered that I forgot to get the second hidden moon stone in Mt. Moon. Also, the Pokemon Blue sprite for Nidoking is epic. The backsprite isn't, but who care's about the fact that you're going to be staring at it 99% of the upcoming battles.

Brock Battle:

Used THOR and his horn attack move to kill geodude, and then BULBORB for Onix.
http://imgur.com/6d1rQ.png

Misty Battle:
http://imgur.com/lYkdN.png
Was over too quickly for comfort. Her first pokemon died with just one vine whip, and her second one almost died within 2. Switched to THOR to deal the final blow, and got a bubblebeam in the face to boot.

myrrhman February 23rd, 2010 10:50 PM

Fun fun!!! I'll pick water!

syphilis February 24th, 2010 1:06 PM

hm, ok, i'll do a normal run in blue. brock shouldn't be...too bad...

DGexe February 24th, 2010 1:24 PM

Hm... this looks like fun. *has never tried a Mono-type challenge before*
Can I sign up for Poison, using my ol' Blue? There's already a game on there, but I've restarted so much that restarting again for this challenge doesn't bug me in the least.

myrrhman February 25th, 2010 2:11 AM

Here we go!

Player: A
Rival: James

Got a Squirtle and quickly renamed him KIPPER. We bonded when he barely beat James' Bulbasaur (1 HP left!). We trained a bunch near Viridian City and picked up a Spearow, to be traded for an HM slave Farfetch'd later on. I leveled Spearow and KIPPER a bunch, and beat James again.

Pokemon:
Kipper

Bubble
Tail Whip
Tackle

Spearow

Peck
Growl
Leer

Okami Chi February 25th, 2010 2:38 AM

I'm doing a pure Bug for Red, and Blue is Pure Fire. The pokemon in on your banner is who I will be doing for each. Could I do my Yellow ver. too?

myrrhman February 25th, 2010 1:19 PM

Small Update:

Kipper and I sped through Viridian Forest, and Kipper was level 15 when we got out. So, when I beat the first trainer in the Pewter Gym, and Kipper evolved into a Wartortle! Brock was too easy. After getting my first badge, I entered Mt. Moon. I got about halfway and decided to take a break here.

I'd prefer not for yellow, consistency's sake... But shouldn't two challenges be enough?? Haha
And btw the banners are not mine... Cooltrainer Mike's.

Bug on Red. This will be pretty difficult.

DGexe February 25th, 2010 5:07 PM

AND SO WE BEGIN

AND THUS, THE ADVENTURE BEGINS. WARNING, NARRATIVE FLUFF. I had too much fun summarizing the first day.

Chapter I: Cue the Overly Cliche Title about Beginnings and Adventures
So this kid named Raphael, aka "the Protagonist", rolls out of bed and wanders about his room for a bit (during which he finds one[1] potion in the PC). He gets dressed, comes downstairs, and his Mom tells him Professor Oak is looking for him.

FANTASTIC! Raphael wanders around Pallet Town, taking his sweet time, during which he meets his rival, Samuel, and Sam's older sister Daisy.... and then he tries to leave town because the professor has obviously stood him up and is no where to be found.

BUT WAIT! Oak shows up out of no where like a ninja, warning the young protagonist about the dangers of wild grass without a Pokemon, and thus Raphael is dragged back to the lab to get his starter. And since this IS a Poison Type monochallenge, it makes sense to pick Bulbasaur!

http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/1.png
•Terrathus♂
•Grass/Poison
•Lv. 5
•Tackle, Growl

And of course, Samuel picks Charmander the lil' rat, and challenges Raphael to a battle, where he wipes the floor with poor Terrathus and then walks out the door like the brat he is. Anyway, it's time to leave town after Raphael baws at his mom about his loss and heals up poor Bulbasaur.

Raphael makes it to Viridian City and tries to go into the Pokemart to do the sensible thing and buy some stuff, only he has a package to deliver! He goes back, trades the custom Pokeball for a Pokedex, and is on his merry way after getting the Town Map...

Chapter II: Makin' a Team
Luckily for Raphael, he has a good number of Pokemon with a poison type to their name to make for his team early on. On route 22, he gains both the male and female Nidorans:

•Tackle, Growl

•Thor♂

•Tackle, Leer

And thus the first wave of grinding begins....

Once everyone's at level 6, Raphael and company head into the weely scawy Viridian Forest to get a Weedle. This task is accomplished after beating up Pikachu, Caterpie, and Metapod:

http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/13.png
•Beedra
•Bug/Poison
•Lv. 3
•Poison Sting, String Shot
And further into the woods they go, beating up Bug Catchers and slowly making it to Pewter City...

Chapter III: HOORAY WE'RE HERE-- no, wait, more Level Grinding....
And the team reaches Pewter, where Brock awaits... only for Raphael to remember that his team is under leveled and needs to be grinded up to level 13. The Narrator (aka the player, DGexe) insists Terrathus learns Vine Whip before whipping Brock's team into shape...
And thus, the grinding begins, until this end result is had:

And now I'm about to go pwn some Rock Types. HOOHAH!

PlatniumPiano February 25th, 2010 6:01 PM

^ Entertaining update haha. And sceptile, good luck lol I added you.

BTW if anyone cares I now have six badges haha :P

myrrhman February 25th, 2010 11:12 PM

Figure its about time for another update. Should only take like 2 more after this one.

Anyways, Kipper and I noticed a few shady characters lurking in Mt. Moon. Upon further investigation, we found they were actually Team Rocket, a band of thieves that like to steal pokemon and experiment on them! Oh no!!! Kipper and I would not stand for this, so we whipped them into shape. We came across some nerd who found 2 rare fossils. He made me battle him, even though I didn't want to. Then, when I beat him, he up and gave me a fossil!!! I didn't really want it, but I picked up the Dome Fossil for a souvenir. Kipper and I exited into beautiful Cerulean City. Kipper liked it here, and we played with the numerous water Pokemon. We even found some trainer with a Slowbro that wouldn't obey her!!! What a silly trainer. Anyways, while exploring, we ran across James, who wanted to battle. He had a couple more pokemon than last time (one of which was a useless Abra that only knew Teleport) but in the end, Kipper would be triumphant. James told me of some guy named Bill, who I should go and visit. After a lot of trainer battles, I finally found Bill, who somehow got merged with a pokemon in some freak science accident. For helping him out, I got a pass to the SS Anne! After adding 4 pages to my Pokedex, I went back to Cerulean. I saw another rocket, so i whooped him. He gave me a TM that he stole. I taught it to Kipper so that he can dig holes in the ground. To make a long story short(er), Misty was easy. Then, after getting cut and acquiring a Farfetch'd from some trainer that wanted to trade, I beat Lt. Surge too! Kipper evolved into a big, strong Blastoise at the end of this battle. I went through the rock tunnel and entered some town with a bunch of dead pokemon in it, so I quickly hopped over to Celadon City to do some shopping.

Dang, another update so quickly!

Kipper and I decided to skip the Celadon Gym for now. We bought some girl some water, and she gave us Ice Beam. We bought one for the thirsty security guard too. Also, we bought a couple of water stones, because someone in our party is going to need them, right? Kipper swept through the entire rocket game corner by himself, and I got the Silph Scope. Dux then flew me to Lavendar Town to go see what's with the tower. After running away from numerous Gastlys, we came across a poor marowak. One water gun was enough to finish the job. Then we rescued Mr. Fuji!!! He gave us a pokeflute, and access to Silph Co. We opted to do the latter first. Pretty soon we saw James again, and he wanted another battle. Kipper survived by the skin of his teeth, taking 2 razor leaves from Venusaur. Then I got a Lapras from some nice dude. I named it Storm and immediately taught it Thunderbolt from the Vermillion Gym. After disposing of Boss Giovanni once more, I awoke a Snorlax and made him retreat to the mountains. Then we flew down cycling road and into Fuchsia. After a quick stop at the Safari Zone, I taught Kipper Surf, and Storm learned Surf and Strength. I then got a Good Rod and flew to Viridian City to catch a Poliwag, which was named Tsunami. He immediately learned Surf too. Going back to Fuchsia, my developing team of water Pokemon beat down Koga and his ninja minions. I then fought my way up to get a Super Rod. Going back to Fuchsia once more, I caught a Staryu named Deluge. Now that I could use Surf, I flew to Pallet Town and went down to Cinnibar Island, into the Laboratory, and out with a Kabuto named Rapids. I used more TM/HMs and decided to call it a day.

brock was actually a lot harder than i expected :\

i chose squirtle to begin with but i soon caught a rattata which i promptly named "plague". plague got ground. quite high actually. i got him/her...it...to level 15 before fighting my rival for the second time. i sped through viridian forest, fighting the trainers along the way. i got out and went to the gym to face the trainer in brock's gym. i wasn't satisfied with plague's performance, so i forced to evolve. even then, brock took a few more hits than i wanted him to. afterward, i went to catch a jigglypuff named "zeus!" and a clefairy named "thor!", though neither of them are worthy of their names. when i made it out of mt. moon, i beat my rival again with zeus! alone. and then i got an s.s. ticket. yay

team:

thor!/Clefairy lvl 26
-Pound
-Minimize
-Sing
-Doubleslap

zeus!/Jigglypuff lvl 24
-Pound
-Sing
-Doubleslap
-Water Gun

plague/Raticate lvl 22
-Quick Attack
-Tail Whip
-Tackle
-Hyper Fang

@myrrhman: Ahh! Lol I can't tell how many badges you have. Did you skip Erika or not? But I'm going to presume since you made it to Cinnabar that you have 6... amiright?

DGexe February 26th, 2010 3:58 PM

ANOTHER SEGMENT!

Chapter IV: Vs Brock and other things

With the above team, Raphael goes to face Brock... and he ends up kicking his Geodude and Onix after lots of Poison Stings and a well placed Vine Whip.

Terrathus gains a level, the Boulder Badge is obtained, and Brock gives away TM34! Hoorah! Raphael is dragged down to Route 22 to face... Samuel! ... Oh, wait... he isn't here. Oops. Narrator's memory of Blue is shoddy.... That means it's off to Mt. Moon, beating up the trainers along the way!

In Mt. Moon, the team grows as Raphael's & Co. keep pwning the trainers, Hikers, and Team Rocket members inside (actually, we're nearly creamed by Team Rocket and that last Super Nerd):

http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/41.png
Vladimir♂
•Poison/Flying
•Lv. 8
•Leech Life

And we get one(1) Helix Fossil before exiting onto the next route, and Cruele-- I mean, Cerulean City....

IN CERULEAN CITY, leveling up is to be had. Everyone gets to level 16, three of Raphael's team evolves, and Zubat finally learns a decent move: Bite. The compay goes to take on Samuel up at Nugget Bridge... and wins. After beating up the trainers there (and finding out the horror of Confusion on Poison-types), Raphael helps Bill out, gets a ticket to the fancy-do party in Vermillion, and then goes back to Cerulean to pwn Misty.

Misty is soon pwned like Brock was, and after that Raphael helps out the family who's TM Dig was stolen by Team Rocket. :3

Chapter V: To Vermillion & the SS Anne

So Raphael and Co. head south to the port town of Vermillion, nearly being beaten up along the way by a Butterfree (more Confusion horror). They board the SS Anne, where there's a bunch of going back and forth between the Pokemon Center and the ship due to the momentary FAIL of Raph's team (a shame, really). While there, they meet up with Samuel and beat him up yet again before obtaining Cut...
And this is the final team, for now:

I got a Squirtle today. I wanted a bug type, but oh well. I went to Viridian and decided to get some pokeballs. When I arrived, the cashier asked if I knew Oak. I told him I did so he handed me a package. I took it back to the lab and got a Pokedex! I made my way north until I got to the forest, where I found a Weedle. After training him for a while, he evolved into a Beedrill. I'm on the search for a Caterpie, even though I captured a Metapod. Caterpie will at least know an offensive move. That's all for today. I hope to have beaten Brock by tomorrow.

One of the reasons I love water type monos is that they all can learn surf, which is one of the best moves of their type, and there's infinite of it.

Also, you're doing it wrong, kingler doesn't know surf right now.

syphilis February 26th, 2010 8:23 PM

so, having nothing left to do in cerulean besides beat misty, i beat misty with thor!. it was pretty easy. i went through the underground tunnel thing and caught a meowth named "poos". i proceeded to train poos until it learned pay day, and then i trained it MUCH more. i started to ONLY use poos and his/her pay day to get money to buy a porygon. after beating surge and my rival on the s.s. anne with poos, i went to rock tunnel to continue the story, but i ended up spending some time in the cave.

funny thing, pay day gives you money equal to twice your level for every hit. pay day is a normal type move and i believe it has a base power of 40, and poos isn't particularly strong, so geodudes and onixes give lots of money. starting at around level 33 or so, i basically money grinded until i was making about 84 pokedollars per hit. now that i'm in celadon, i've realized porygon wasn't made to be...obtainable? 6500 coins?! that costs more than the maximum amount of money possible to have at one time. i really hope porygon's worth it :\

Team:

poos/Persian lvl 42
-Pay Day
-Scratch
-Screech
-Bite

thor!/Clefairy lvl 38

I know he doesn't know surf. Kingler's special stat is absolutley horrible, so I'm finding it best to use him as a physical attack machine. But he's been left behing in the box for victory road due to the fact that I need one Pkmn with strength, my HM slave... But yeah. No surfs for Kingler lol

myrrhman February 26th, 2010 9:19 PM

And done. I leveled Storm up til it learned Ice Beam and then easily beat Erika, who I skipped for a while. Then Giovanni came back to the gym, so I continued training Storm by one hitting all the pokemon in the last gym, including Giovanni. At this point, I had to choose between grinding and just going straight through the elite four with the two underlevelled pokemon I had. Since I'm in like 5 other challenges, I opted for the latter. I sold all the things I had left, and with all the money I had i bought a bunch of revives and full restores. The elite four didn't really put up much of a fight, and I got to Gary rather unharmed. Still nothing to major, other than his Venusaur, which completely destroyed me. I escaped by the skin of Kipper's teeth (something like 13/173 HP) but I did it.

Myrrh out

I'm going to be weird and choose Bug. Signz meh up, plz.

So, progress thingy! Yaaay!

AS OF NOW...
Named my character PIRANHA and my rival BLOOPER. Yes, I'm a Mario nerd. Mwahaha.

Got Potion x1, left house, Oak, etcetera.

TO THE GRASS!
TO THE LAB!
ZOMGIES I GOTZ A CHARMANDER!

Named the Charmander CHAAAAAAAR out of sheer unoriginality.
Thank god for emulators -- sped right through Route 1, got second Potion from Mart Guy, got CHAAAAAAAR up to Lv.7.

Reached Viridian -- due to speed-up thingy, I ran into the coffee dude a few times. DAMN YOU COFFEE DUDE!

To the PokéCentre, then... NEEEEEEOOWW. Sped all the way back down to Route 1 -- got CHAAAAAAAR up to Lv.8.

Then, I realised I'd forgotten to get the Package.

NEEEEEEOOWW. ALL the way back up... Package... all the way down... CHAAAAAAAR at Lv.9 now. Gotz mah Pokédex...

And stopped, as I think the spacebar might fall off now.

PARTY AS OF NOW:
CHARMANDER / CHAAAAAAAR (seven A's)

Lv.9

Scratch
Growl
Ember

Badges: 0

=============================

PART TWOOOOOO

AS OF NOW...

Um, not much. Grinding CHAAAAAAAR up to Lv.12, catching Caterpie. Called Caterpie BUG THING out of sheer unoriginality again. Just realised how much of a mistake it was to choose Charmander -- what was I thinking? Misty, Surge and Blaine are going to be tougher than usual...

Ground Caterpie to Lv.12. BUG THING is now a Butterfree. Will try and get a Weedle if I have the patience... Beedrill will definitely be useful in the future.

I went to PKMN League HQ. Beat BLOOPER easily. GOD, I love Confusion XD

Anyway, now I'm off to the woods! Tralalaa, etc etc.

POKEYMANZ IN PARTY:

CHARMANDER / CHAAAAAAAR
Lv.13
Scratch
Growl
Ember

BUTTERFREE / BUG THING

I'm not sure if you know this but as soon as you get your first Pkmn to a respectable level, you need to box your starter. So next time you turn it on, Deposit CHAAAAAAAR in Viridian's box, mkay? Bug Thing should be at a good enough level now. Thanks :)

Chapter VI: Route 11, the Lieutenent, Celadon, and some friggen Rocket Ghosts!

Some more trainers were beaten up, and Vladimir evolved... and Raphael, the Narrator, and the rest of the team responded like this:

"DDDD8> OH MY GOD WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!"

They tried to bear with the OMGWTFBBQ factor of Golbat's Blue sprite, but it wasn't easy... Rocktunnel, without flash, proved to be easy, however. Narrator cheated by watching where the walls were and looking at a lit-up map on Serebii.net. Whoo!

Still, "divine aid" is aid, and Raphael & Co. were thankful to be in Lavender town so they could get another poison-type: Haunter! Samuel was there too, threatening Raphael's team that he'll bury them 6 feet under too, so Raphael set him up the pwn and won.

... Only to remember that Silph Co's friggen scope is needed. With a collective huff from Raphael and Narrator, they trudge east towards Celadon... It's like the game knows how much the Narrator REALLY WANTS HAUNTER and is taunting her about it! The lil' rat!

Upon arriving in Celadon, Raphael learns the horrible fact that Golbat can't learn Fly inspite of being a Flying type as well. Vladimir is kept on the team, however, under the condition that we never have to look at his front sprite ever again. Screw flying anyway; Raphael needs to loose some weight.

To make a very long story short, Raphael goes down into Team Rocket's base to whoop him some Rockets, does so after running around the mazes for two hours, and Giovanni is beaten for the first time using some well-placed Vine Whips. ONE(1) SLIPH SCOPE GET! :B

So that means only one thing... OFF TO POKEMON TOWER, WHERE A FLAGSHIP GASTLY IS OBTAINED AFTER WHOOPING SAMUEL'S BUTT! 8D!

Taunter♂
•Ghost/Poison
•Lv. 20
•Lick, Confuse Ray, Night Shade, Psychic

We swung by Saffron city to quench thirst, take names, and get a TM 29. ;D

So after that, Raphael's newly aqquired Gastly begins beating the Heck (quite litterally) out of several channlers, and by the time we reach the top, Team Rocket has to be beaten... again. >:

During those fights, Raphael & Co. get to go "OMGWTFBBQ?!" at a foe Golbat.

But then we save Mr. Fuji and gain one(1) Pokeflute! HOORAH!

And now the team is this:

myrrhman March 18th, 2010 7:40 PM

I think I'll do all the types for this. Pokemon Blue Version was my favorite thing to do when I was little, and I want to play it more. But, I'm doing a couple of Challenges in both Pearl and Platinum currently. As soon as I'm done with that though, I'll be back. So if you want to sign me up for everything but water, which I already beat here, I'll be on it probably next week or sooner.

Roaring Moon March 19th, 2010 1:37 PM

I'll do Flying-type in Red.

jujuju March 21st, 2010 6:22 AM

I'll do ground type in red as it seems that nobody has done that yet.

EDIT: I decided to now do blue as I thought that Sandshrew was a Red-only pokemon, not a Blue-only pokemon

GoldenPokeBall March 21st, 2010 9:23 PM

Ah! Now I feel like I'm copying Myrrhman. :(

Sign me up for everything too. :D Looks like I'm racing the water champion.

I already started the Fire challenge. So here is my progress thus far:

Got a Bulbasaur. Tried to name it Bloom, but accidentally hit start after the B. His name is now B.

Caught a Pidgey, didn't name it.
Beat Brock with B.
B evolved a little bit later.

1st Update
Spoiler:
Player Name: Jack
Rival Name: Gary

Jack woke up this morning feeling excited about the new adventure that he was about to begin. Jack had always had a thing for Ground type Pokemon and his dream was to build a team with only Ground type Pokemon. He had been planning it for months; the gyms, the many Pokemon trainers he would meet on the way and eventually getting to the elite 4 and becoming the best Pokemon trainer in the world. Jack began his journey by making a visit to Professor Oak and picked a Bulbasaur. Although it was not a ground type, Jack knew that his rival, Gary, would pick a Charmander as it had the type advantage. Little did he know that, that type advantage would soon disappear. After completing a few tasks for the Prof., Jack was on his way. He began by catching a Level 2 Nidoran, which he knew would eventually evolve into the strong Poison/Ground type Pokemon, Nidoking. He raised the Nidoran until it was at Level 12 when Gary decided to challenge him again. Since the first time they met, Gary had added a Pidgey to his team and had become stronger. Nidoran was still able to defeat both Pokemon using only Horn Attack. Jack continued on his journey by heading towards Viridian Forest, which he knew would bring him to Pewter City, the site of the first gym. After battling his way through the Forest, Jack emerged with a Level 15 Nidoran and a lot of confidence. He quickly challenged Brock for the first badge, but Brock’s Pokemon were tough and did not go down easily. Fortunately, Nidoran was tougher and 25 Horn Attacks, 8 Tackles, 1 Poison Sting and 4 Potions later, Brock was defeated and Nidoran evolved into Nidorino. Jack continued his adventure by attempting to get through Mt. Moon. Along the way, he found the TM Water Gun, which he proceeded to teach to Nidorino and used it to catch a Level 8 Geodude.

Current Team
Nidorino Level 22
  • Water Gun
  • Tackle
  • Horn Attack
  • Poison Sting

Geodude Level 8
  • Tackle

Bulbasaur Level 7 (Just there because I am too lazy to go to my PC)
  • Tackle
  • Growl
  • Leech Seed

myrrhman March 26th, 2010 8:29 AM

Well, big update, i guess. I beat the elite four/champion.

Just posting elite four battles, because they're the only ones i remembered, and the rival battle was rediculous. Thank god I had so many revives

Entered the elite four with all my pokemon at around level 50, Parasect, as my MVP, was at 60.

Round 1: Vs. Loreli!
Spoiler:
She led Dewgong, I led Venusaur. Tried to OHKO with Razor leaf, but Dewgong just had a sliver left and hit me with an Aurora Beam for a little damage. I did OHKO Cloyster and Slowbro with Razor Leaf. I switched to Parasect for her Jynx, and Leech Life 2HKO (I took an Ice Punch so I had like 3/4 health after the second heal). Switched back to Venusaur for Lapras. Used Razor leaf to bring it to like 1/4, it hit me with Blizzard, and I fainted. Damnit. I switched to Vileplume and Pedal Dance'd it to move on.

Round 2: Vs. Bruno!
Spoiler:
This battle was better. Exeggutor one hit every Pokemon with a Super Effective, STAB'd Mega Drain or Psychic. I think Hitmonlee was faster than me, but it did some attack that wasn't damage, I think it was either Focus Energy or Meditate. Nevertheless, I took no damage and advanced.

Round 3: Vs. Agatha!
Spoiler:
I kept Exeggutor out and tried to sweep with Psychic. Unfortunately, I wasn't strong enough to OHKO Agatha's Pokemon. Exeggutor fainted on the last Gengar (I think) and was out of Psychics. So, I sent Parasect out and fully healed with Leech Life. Done.

Round 4: Vs. Lance!
Spoiler:
This is where it began to get rediculous. Now I had over 100,000 Pokedollars, and I spent every last one of them on Revives. So I had a bunch of Revives. I needed them. I led Vileplume on Lance, which got OHKO'd by Gyarados's Hyper Beam. Sent Parasect out, my last battleable Pokemon. Spore went first, and I revived my entire team. Don't ask me why I didn't revive them before the battle. I got a couple of slashes in before he woke up, and when I moved again, Slash Crit'd and killed him. I switched to Venusaur for his Dragonairs. They never attacked me, they used agility 3 times each, and I used 3 Body Slams to kill them both. Aerodactyl went down with 2 Razor Leafs, but it hit me with Hyper Beam. Dragonite came and hyper beamed everyone but Vileplume. Magically, he missed on Vileplume, and Vileplume put him to sleep. I healed one Pokemon before he woke up. He used Agility (WTF?) and I missed with Sleep Powder. Then he used Barrier (again, WTF why didn't he kill me with hyper beam?) and I hit with Sleep Powder. I was then able to revive the rest of my team and use an Ether on Exeggutor's Psychic. When he woke up, he killed me with Hyper Beam finally, and I sent out Exeggutor. After using Agility again, he took another nap from Hypnosis, and didn't wake up (2 Psychics).

Round 5: Vs Rival!
Spoiler:
So, I went ahead and revived everyone. First Pokemon was Pidgeot, who went to sleep with Spore and down with a couple of Slashes. Next, Alakazam went down Spore-Leech Life 2 hits. I switched to Venusaur for Rhydon, who died in one Razor Leaf. Exeggutor just got straight up Leech Lifed and 2 hit (I really thought I could one hit it, because it was quad weak to Bug moves, and I was STABing it. Gyarados was a pain in the ***, but Hyper Beam didn't kill my Venusaur, and Body Slam Paralyzed him. Then I beat him with Parahax. This was the first time I had ever gotten Parahax to my advantage. Fun.

Then was Charizard. What. The. ****. There was nothing I could do. He was faster than all my Pokemon, and could either one or two hit them with Fire Blast (which hit like 95% of the time) or trap them with Fire Spin and just repeatedly use that. I don't know how many Revives I had to use, but I only have like 3 left, and I spent 100,000 on them. Finally I put him to sleep with one of my Pokemon (if you haven't figured it out by now, all 4 of my Pokemon know sleep moves) and Parasect 4 hit him with Slash. Definitely the most frustrating single Pokemon I have ever fought in my Pokemon career. I am so grateful that battle is over.

And that's a rap. I'm done with Water and Grass now. 2/15.

Team:
http://pokejungle.net/other/pokepet/Venusaur.gif
Venusaur at level 58

Razor Leaf, Body Slam, Sleep Powder, Cut
http://pokejungle.net/other/pokepet/Parasect.gif
Parasect at level 61

Leech Life, Spore, Dig, Slash
-definitely my MVP. Saved me against Sabrina, Koga, Blaine, and like half of the Elite Four. He's not the highest leveled Pokemon I have for nothing.
http://pokejungle.net/other/pokepet/Vileplume.gif
Vileplume at level 51

Acid, Pedal Dance, Sleep Powder, Stun Spore
-definitely my LVP. He just wasn't worth training. Venusaur had Razor Leaf, and I really didn't need any more grass moves. I sorta just had him so I could have a full team of Grass. Oh well, he did save me against Lance, so I respect him in that regard.
http://pokejungle.net/other/pokepet/Exeggutor.gif
Exeggutor at level 53

Psychic, Hypnosis, Stomp, Mega Drain

PlatniumPiano March 26th, 2010 9:31 AM

@myrrhman: You have got to be one of the most dedicated 1st gen fans out there haha. Grass is my favorite type, I had no idea it'd be so hard though! Which challenge will you do next?

myrrhman March 26th, 2010 1:27 PM

Oh yeah, I'm a huge Pokefan. The main problem with grass type was the lack of attack types. And dual type pokemon for that matter. Not counting Normal, I only had 5 different type attacks. And since none of them were super effective against dragons or Charizard, that gave me a really big problem.

Anyways, after that ridiculous challenge, I want to one that's a wee bit easier. We'll go with flying. That should be much better.

Proposed end of game team:

Gyarados: Surf, Earthquake, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt
Charizard: Flamethrower, Slash, Rock Slide, Cut
Butterfree: Sleep Powder, Psychic, Strength, Supersonic?
Fearow: Drill Peck, Fly, don't care, doesn't matter

Andrew1989 April 6th, 2010 4:00 AM

Seeing as I've got nothing else to do to waste my free-time on, do you mind putting me down for the challange?

I'll be using my Pokémon Blue and the type I'd like to use for this challange is Fire type please :)

PokemonRockstar April 6th, 2010 9:58 AM

think i'll do this with flying/grass/or poison

Conor April 6th, 2010 2:00 PM

I'm playin' yellow at the moment but I'm after gettin' red/blue/gold/silver/crystal again so when I get them I'm definitely gonna do this with bug type on one and maybe water on another ;o

WKnite April 6th, 2010 2:10 PM

Update: Beat Blaine's Gym
Surprised how much of an MVP Marowak is proving to be.
Nidoqueen is proving to be a weak link
Rhydon can One-Hit almost anything with double-edge
Nidoking hasnt been used since I got Cubone/Marowak
Dugtrio is niceeeee

Imperator161 April 7th, 2010 10:34 AM

Hooray for Monotype challenges! I started one when I first joined PC but never finished it, so I'll try again. Sign me up for Normal type! I'll be playing on Blue version by the way.

Update so far:

Name: Justin
Rival: BLUE (Call me old-fashioned. What-evs.)

Selected Squirtle as first Pokémon. BLUE picked Bulbasaur, of course.
Put the pwnage on BLUE.
Made the trip to Viridian and received Oak's Parcel. Back to Pallet Town now.
Got Pokédex. Back to Viridian to buy some Poké Balls, then back to Route 1 to catch RATTATA (nickname will come later) and grind him all the way to level 9.
Through Viridian Forest. Rattata beat that level 9 Weedle with one Quick Attack.
Now I'm going to do some level grinding and try to beat Brock without help from Squirtle. Wish me luck!

Update again:
Brock's Geodude and Onix couldn't beat my over-leveled Rattata and his Tail Whip/Hyper Fang combo. On to Mt. Moon!
Current Team:
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg249/MarchingTurtles/rattata1.jpg
Moves: Hyper Fang, Quick Attack, Tail Whip, Tackle

Imperator161 April 7th, 2010 12:19 PM

Another update:

I finally got another fire type! I'd forgotten how few fire types there were in this game. Charizard was fine on its own, though.

I could catch Growlithe now, but I'm sick of it using Roar on me, so I think I might catch one later.

I think the earliest you could get a Psychic type is an Abra north of Cerulean. But that's still before Lt. Surge and therefore just fine ;)

Imperator161 April 7th, 2010 1:59 PM

Edit: Ignore this segment. I accidently used Moltres (I forgot it was legendary for some reason, probably because it has such awful starting moves), so I decided to back up and redo the last segment. The new part (without Moltres) is below.

Well, I just finished beating the Elite Four with my fire types. I didn't bother training many of them before beating the Elite Four, but to be honest, the E4 was something of a joke anyway.

Completed at: 5:50PM

Events between final badge and the Elite Four:
-Since Moltres is a fire type, I decided to catch it with my Master Ball
-Got very frustrated trying to put the boulders onto the switches in Victory Road. I guess that's what I get for trying to speed up the emulator. Oh well, I got through it eventually.

E4 Rundown:

Lorelei:
-Charizard took care of most of the Pokemon, except for the last one. Poor Charizard fainted near the end, so my trusty new Moltres had to finish off the battle.

Bruno:
-Charizard again dominated. No major problems.

Agatha:
-Charizard again dominated. Confusion struck me at one point, which was annoying, but fortunately, I had pretty good luck and made it through the battle without taking much damage from my own attacks (I was too lazy to bother switching).

Lance:
-Charizard got knocked out at one point, so Flareon stepped in for a moment. It managed to use Toxic against Lance's Dragonite before being replaced by Charizard again.

Blue (rival):
-Charizard took care of most of his Pokemon with a combination of Dig, Flamethrower, and Slash. Moltres stepped in to finish off his Blastoise with a movement-inhibiting Fire Spin.

And then, I registered my Pokemon in the Hall of Fame!

Final team:

Charizard lvl. 69
Flamethrower, Slash, Dig, Fire Spin

Flareon lvl. 38
Ember, Quick Attack, Tackle, Toxic

Growlithe lvl. 26
Bite, Roar, Ember, Leer

Moltres lvl. 50
Peck, Fire Spin

Lapras lvl. 15: Surf, Strength
Farfetch’d lvl. 8: Cut, Fly

FalconsDrummer April 7th, 2010 2:38 PM

Time for another update!

-After fighting through the tight assembly of young Trainers at the beginning of Route 3, I made my way into the grass and caught myself a Spearow. His nickname is Ren.
-Went into Mt. Moon and immediately encountered a Paras, captured it for future use as an HM slave. Fought a bunch of Trainers in Mt. Moon and eventually made it to Cerulean.
-Easily beat Rival BLUE with the assistance of my newly acquired teammate (and of course some help from Rattata as well).
-Next I fought through Nugget Bridge, and in the process, both Rattata and Ren evolved upon reaching level 20.
-Got to Bill's house, changed him back, got S.S. Ticket. Back to Cerulean, and then one more stop before taking on Misty.
-South of Cerulean City, went in the grass near the Daycare and caught a Meowth (named Pinball). Now, it's time for Misty.
-Misty's underlings were a piece of cake, and Pinball took care of them easily.
-Misty's Staryu went down after some nasty Bites from Pinball, and Ren took on Starmie.
-Taught Pinball Bubblebeam, and now I'm taking a break for a while.

Current team:

Moves: Quick Attack, Hyper Fang, Tail Whip, Tackle

Moves: Peck, Fury Attack, Leer, Growl

Imperator161 April 7th, 2010 3:12 PM

Whoops, forgot about the no legends rule as I got caught up in the end of the game. I'll redo the last segment without the Moltres. Updates coming shortly.

Alright, all done now. No more Moltres!

Battle details:

Lorelei:
-Charizard dominated. I was a bit worried after a Hydro Pump from Lapras, but fortunately, I made it through.

Bruno:
-Charizard dominated. No major problems.

Agatha:
-Charizard dominated. No problems with Confuse Ray (Agatha kept randomly switching her Pokemon, though).

Lance:
-Growlithe had to serve as a buffer after Gyarados's critical hit Hydro Pump killed poor Charizard. The rest of the battle went smoothly.

Blue:
-No hitches. I was pretty much out of PP for both Flamethrower and Slash by the time I got to his Blastoise, which wasn't too much fun, but fortunately, a critical hit from Dig finished off the battle.

Charizard gained a lot of experience this time around, and grew several levels. Growlithe and Flareon failed to grow any levels, though.

Final team:

Charizard lvl. 71
Flamethrower, Slash, Dig, Fire Spin

Growlithe lvl. 26
Bite, Roar, Ember, Leer

Flareon lvl. 38
Quick Attack, Ember, Toxic, Tackle

Lapras lvl. 15: Surf and Strength slave
Farfetch'd lvl. 8: Fly and Cut slave

Andrew1989 April 8th, 2010 1:28 AM

Okay - so, started my challange today... and here's where I am atm:

---

Name: Andrew
Rival: Zachary

- Took potion out of PC.
- Started with Charmander and fought against my Rival. The only reason he was tricky was because he spammed "Tail Whip" at the start and nearly killed me. Charmander grew to level 6. Also nicknamed it "Flare".
- Travelled to Viridian City while growing Flare to level 7 through Route 1. Also got a Potion while speaking to someone in Route 1.
- Got Oak's Parcel in Viridian.
- Went back to Pallet Town and gave Oak his parcel. Also recieved the Pokédex in return.
- Spoke to Gary's Sister and she gave me the Town Map.
- Travelled through Route 1 and reached Viridian City (again).
- Went West of Viridian City and started to grind Flare to level 10. Went to the Poké center twice to heal him (as I wasn't going to waste my Potions on him).
- Fought my Rival and he nearly killed me (because Squirtle liked to spam Bubble on me). Only won because he acted a little stupid and tried to Tail Whip me. Wasted one potion here.
- Travelled north from Viridian City and cruised through Viridian Forest while beating all the trainers there. Flare grew to level 13 here (and did little training here).
- Arrived in Pewter City and healed my team. Also bought 15 Potions (just incase I had to play tatics).
- Took the Gym Challange and had to go back to the Poké Center to heal my Charmander Flare grew to level 14.

Gym Leader Brock

Geodude: Wasn't really difficult to defeat since I kept spamming Growl on it. Took a few Ember's and it went down quite easily. Wasted one Potion on it.
Onix: For it not to spam Growl and to waste time, I would have a little hassle on Onix as it would probably have killed me with Bide. Kept doing Screech to me (maximum) so I kept taking it down with Ember and wasted time with Growl when it tried to hit me with Bide. Went down after a while.

- Reviced the Boulder Badge and recieved the Bide TM.
- Flare grew to level 15.

Current Team

Flare (Charmander)
Level: 15
Type: Fire
Attack: 26
Defense: 23
Speed: 28
Special: 21
Moves: Scratch, Growl, Ember, Leer.

---

I'll update again when I've gotten time. Just suprised that I didn't have to waste so many Potions on Brock and have difficulty on him at all. Beating Misty will be hilarious though :D

I-Like-Shiny-Pichu April 8th, 2010 3:20 AM

Oooh this sounds fun, I am going to try this

Sign me up for Poison please

Today:

Challenge Started.

Name: Jay
Rival: Mouse

My team: Bulba (Bulbasaur)

Rival: Charmander

More updates soon

Update: Defeated Mouse on the first try!! Bulba levelled up to level 6

Andrew1989 April 8th, 2010 5:03 AM

Seeing as someone posted before me, no purpose to edit my reply so am posting again with my recent update:

EDIT: Posting again because I'll have another update for my team again (since I've started playing Blue again).

---

- Went through Route 3 and obliterated every trainer there. Not only did Flare evolved into Charmeleon, but it also grew to level 18 before I reached the Poké Center and healed.
- Cruised through Mt. Moon and made sure I defeated every trainer in it. Took Dome Fossil and left the place. Flare grew to level 23 (was worried incase I ran out of PP).
- Arrived in Cerulean City.
- Went north from Cerulean City and fought my Rival. Flare grew to level 24.

Rival Zachary

Pidgeotto: Once again, this pokemon was the most annoying to take down because of it's "Sand Attack" move. After wasting some PP on it, it finally went down to some Ember's.
Abra: Killed in one hit due to scratch.
Rattata: Think I wasted some PP's on it before I had killed it with some Ember's. I also believe this is where I also wasted one Potion.
Squirtle: Also had to waste another Potion so that it wouldn't killed me with Bubble (Water Gun weakened me a little). Went down after a couple of Scratches.

- Took the Nugget Bridge challange and defeated every trainer with ease. I won a Nugget but didn't get to join Team Rocket :(. Flare grew to level 25 and had to waste 1 Potion on it.
- Defeated that annoying trainer left from Nugget Bridge.
- Defeated some trainers on Route 25 and Flare grew to level 26. unfortenatly, Flare got hit with bad luck when fighting against a Youngster's Slowpoke and got confused. Didn't have a lot of HP and hurt myself in Confusion. Slowpoke finished me off and I blacked out :'(.
- Took a 2nd attempt at Route 25 and defeated all the trainers that I forgot to fight. Flare grew to level 28.
- Helped Bill out and got the S.S Ticket.
- Healed my Pokémons at the Poké Center and skipping Misty (till Flare is strong enough).
- Fought the Rocket outside a house and recieved the Dig TM. Taught Flare "Dig" by ridding the move "Growl".
- Battled every trainer in Route 6 and had difficulty (Bug Catcher's Butterfree Paraylsed me while a Female Jr Trainer's squad of Pidgey's Sand Attack spammed me). Flare grew to level 29. Also wasted 3 Potions.
- Arrived in Vermillion City.
- Bought Poké Balls at the Poké Mart.
- Got the Bike Voucher of the Rapidash loving guy.
- Went to Diglett's cave and intended to capture a Diglett (for my Cut Slave). Killed it accidently and Flare grew to level 30.
- Travelled back to Route 6 and tried to catch a Meowth instead (for Cut Slave). Wasted 4 Poké Balls on it and decided to just not capture it.
- Entered SS Anne and fought most trainers (and wasting 3 Potions to heal Flare). Left SS Anne to heal and Flare grew to level 32.
- After much deciding, I travelled East of Vermillion City and captured a level 14 Sandshrew (which'll be my Cut Slave if it can get it).
- Entered SS Anne a second time and defeated most of the trainers and picked up the "Body Slam" TM. Flare grew to level 33 and ridded Scratch for Slash. It grew to level 34 when I finished the rest of the trainers on the boat.
- Was about to see the Captain and my Rival ran into me.

Rival Zachary

Pidgeotto: Died in one hit by a Slash.
Raticate: Was the only pokemon that managed to hit me (because of Quick Attack) before it fell to a single Slash.
Kadabra: Again, fell to a single Slash.
Wartortle: One Slash killed it.

- Saw the captian and he gave me the Cut HM. Taught it to Sandshrew (which could luckily get it).
- Left SS Anne and travelled back to Cerulean City (where I exchanged my Bike Voucher for a Bike).
- Took the Gym Challange and defeated every trainer there with absolute ease. Took on Misty.

Gym Leader Misty

Staryu: Died from a single Slash.
Starmie: This was the pokemon that I was worried about the most because of it's Bubblebeam attack. Luckily, I was quicker than it and one Slash attack mauled it before it could deliver any damage.

- Flare grew to level 35.
- Recieved the Cascade Badge and got the Bubblebeam TM.
- Travelled back to Vermillion City and took the Gym Challange. Flare evolved into Charizard when I defeated all the gym's trainers. After spending ages trying to solve the bloody puzzle, finally got a chance to take on Surge.

Gym Leader LT. Surge

Voltorb: Died from a single Slash.
Pikachu: Also died from a single Slash.
Raichu: Wasn't going to waste a Slash on it (incase it survived) so I killed it in a single hit with Dig instead.

- Recieved the Thunder Badge and got the Thunderbolt TM.

You can only get weedle in red

And caterpie only in blue

So there is no way you "caught" both in a red or blue. also IIRC you can't trade unless its for evolving

I-Like-Shiny-Pichu April 8th, 2010 7:07 AM

Noooooo!! My game glitched up and crashed!!! I will have to start again :(

PokemonRockstar April 8th, 2010 7:33 AM

That sucks are you playing on a gameboy or Emulator?

Andrew1989 April 8th, 2010 7:38 AM

Guess what? I've got another update for you guys since I've been playing Blue like a madman and got severely addicted to it. Here's my next update (could be long):

---

- Travelled to Route 11 and cruised through it (by defeating every trainer). Flare grew to level 38.
- Bought 10 Poké Balls in Vermillion City's Poké Mart.
- Healed my team when I arrived in Cerulean City.
- Defeated every trainer in Route 9. Flare grew to level 39.
- Defeated the single trainer outside Rock Tunnel in Route 10. Flare grew to level 40.
- Managed to get through Rock Tunnel without the use of Flash defeating every trainer in the cave. Flare grew to level 42.
- Escaped Rock Tunnel and fought the next batch of trainers on Route 10 growing Flare to level 43.
- Healed my squad at Lavender Town.
- Beat every trainer in Route 8 making Flare grow to level 45.
- Captured a Vulpix (after spending ages looking for one) in Route 7. Was going to name it "May". But since I acted like an idiot, I called it "M" instead.
- Travelled back to Lavender Town just to re-name M to May.
- Arrived in Celadon City and healed my Pokemons.

---

Current Badges: 3.
Pokédex: 5
Time: 4:48

Current Team:

May (Vulpix)
Level 20
Type: Fire
HP: 50
Attack: 25
Defense: 23
Speed: 37
Special: 36
Moves: Ember, Tail Whip, Quick Attack

Sandshrew (Cut Slave)
Level: 14
Type: Ground
HP: 38
Attack: 26
Defense: 29
Speed: 18
Special: 16
Moves: Scratch, Sand-Attack, Cut

Flare (Charizard)
Level: 45
Type: Fire/Flying
HP: 141
Attack: 107
Defense: 101
Speed: 116
Special: 94
Moves: Slash, Dig, Ember, Leer

---

Would have played it for longer... but since my PC is downstairs, not to mention my brother is home from work, I don't want him to see what I'm typing so I had to stop earlier. I'll probably update tomorrow.

Edit:

Actually, that's where your wrong.

Caterpie is possible to capture in Blue that's true. However, so is Weedle as well. The only difference is that Weedle is really rare in Blue (just as Caterpie is really rare in Pokemon Red). But they are obviously catchable in both games. Weedle just isn't catchable in Pokémon Yellow.

your right i just checked

So there is no way you "caught" both in a red or blue. also IIRC you can't trade unless its for evolving

not true, it took me forever but i did find one, and in red if you go into the viridian forest one of the bug catchers DOES have a caterpie, there just realy rare in red.

Time for another update!

-After rescuing Bill and beating Misty, I traveled south through the Underground Path to Vermillion. Oh, and taught Raticate Dig. That kid with the Butterfree was actually pretty easy to beat due to my Pokémon being over-leveled.
-Got the Bike Voucher and rushed back to Cerulean to get my new Bicycle, then came back to Vermillion.
-Boarded the S.S. Anne and fought all the trainers. Met up with BLUE and showed him what's up. Got HM01 from the captain and watched the ship set sail.
-Lt. Surge appeared! Justin used Pwn Attack! Critical hit! It's super effective! Lt. Surge fainted! (Thank goodness for Dig!)
-Rode bike all the way back to Cerulean, cut down the bush and headed for Rock Tunnel; only after defeating all the trainers along that route and going into the cave did I remember I needed Flash. So, back to Vermillion.
-Went through Diglett's Cave, only to find out I needed to catch 2 more Pokémon to earn HM05; caught a Diglett and a Pidgey to meet this requirement (and put them in the PC).
-Finally returned to Rock Tunnel. Fought all trainers inside. Pinball evolved into a Persian!
-Now I'm in Lavender Town. And you know what that means: Name Rater! Raticate finally gets a nickname, Geronimo.
-And that's where I stand for now.
