Animes that amazed/disappointed you.
Usually we have first impressions, but what anime has exceeded your first impression expectations and made you thankful that you stuck to it and continue watching it?
I was amazed by Saki. I was only watching it due to its story being interesting, but it really made a complete 180 in episode 5+. If you know me, I'm sure I have recommended this anime to you. ^^; Oh, and Toradora and Nyan Koi also comes in my mind. The anime that greatly disappointed me is Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu. The light novel was great, but the anime just finished it in 2 episodes out of 13. The art is nice, I must admit. Oh, and don't forget The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya (2009). For obvious reasons. |
Darker Than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini
At first I thought that with Hei gone, the second season of DTB would be a lot less dull. Instead, Bones amazed me with Suou and the awesome plot(well DTB: KNK was still better.) befitting of a confusing Darker Than Black. And, Hei returned. :D Code Geass After Bay finally inadvertently persuaded me to watch it, I've been loving it ever since. At first, with the sequence of Lelouch playing chess and the giant robots, I assumed it was a crappy Death Note/Gundam corssover. Instead, I was amazed and then it was an awesome Death Note/Gundam crossover. Kuroshitsuji It struck me as boring at first. Kind of like the tribulations of a master and his butler in the Victorian era. However, after watching a few episodes, it was awesome. Rich plot, excellent characters, and the occasional comic relief in the form of Finny and Grell Sutcliffe. :3 Fantastic Children I admit, it was a bit boring at first, but the plot soon caught up and I found it an extremely worthwhile watch. Actually, you have to watch it to love it. :D Blood+ Originally, I would've been like, "Yea right I'd be caught watching that...", but I quickly changed after watching the amazing premise in which the characters were in. A truly amazing anime. :3 |
Kuuchuu Buranko / Sky Swing / Trapeze
And here I was thinking that it would end up just being some random, colourful anime with no plot or interesting characters whatsoever. I was wrong. Perhaps the show didn't have a super awesome and complex plot, but that doesn't matter. I enjoyed it very much so, and I was disappointed to see that it only had eleven episodes. But all good things must come to an end. Despite the fact a new character comes up in every episode, almost all of them are memorable in one way or another. The art style… well, I personally loved it. But I think it may be a love it or hate it type of thing. For me, it was a unique and engaging art style. The voice acting was good too. And I overall enjoyed it; I enjoyed watching every episode. It's a shame that nobody really knows about it. Umineko no Naku Koro ni / When the Seagulls Cry I think majority of Umineko visual novel fans had a feeling that this would be kind of terrible. After all, it was being produced by Studio DEEN! :| But it was still disappointing to watch… and I hadn't even played the visual novel of it yet. Umineko VN >>> Umineko anime any day. I was kind of hoping DEEN wouldn't screw up on this, but I was wrong. They missed out a lot of important bits from the VN, and… yeah. I know that they couldn't follow the VN exactly but come on. Episode 24 was a super-major and lame way to finish off the series. But dragon!Kinzo did make me laugh a bit. |
I'm more into manga these days but Anime that amazed me were:
Gurren Lagann - 120% Pure Testosterone and manliness packed into a epic anime. Anime that disappointed me was: I''s - I'm not a purist but the manga was way better because the OVA was 6 episodes, cut out some great storylines, major characters, and damn near everything I liked about the manga I''s. The anime was 6 episodes of 5 characters (2 who were even more minor than the characters cut out of the anime) and flashbacks. |
I was very impressed with Durarara! and Toradora! as well as Soul Eater. Initally all were just animes I decided to watch out of boredom, I didn't expect myself to get hooked on them, and proceed to become a fan. Admitedly, the factor that all three share in common, the factor that caused me to fall head over heels for them, were the astonishing characters. All three anime have such unique/quirky characters. I loved it.
Not-as-impressed with The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya and K-ON!. For two of them, the starting seemed promised - and then we got to Endless Eight and the Azusa period, respectively. (I've no hate on Azusa, she's a cute character, but the series sort of went downhill after she appeared 8/ I mean, they inserted a second summer episode, where the only main difference was that Azusa was there.) Yeah. |
Clannad, Clannad ~After Story~,and Kanon (2006) are three animes that I hold near and dear to me. I started Kanon and Clannad around the same time out of pure boredom with the Shounen series I was into a few years ago, and they changed my tastes in anime completely. Recently, I was surprisingly struck by how humorous Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei was, since I knew pretty much nothing beforehand going into it. The ARIA series was also a pleasant surprise to watch, and by pleasant, I mean very fun and relaxing. |D
I was a bit disappointed with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2009), mainly for just one arc. However, the remaining arcs weren't too exciting compared to the first season either. Air was an anime I had high expectations for, though unfortunately that was a mistake. I watched Kanon and Clannad prior to Air, so Air was just too rough of a piece of work for me to enjoy. Speaking of Key, the Clannad movie, though not horrible, pales too much in comparison to the anime series, it hurts. ;; |
Monster is one anime that thoroughly impressed me. Not something I'd usually watch, but I decided to watch it out of the blue and it's one of my favorite to this day. The plot is really mind blowing. :D A doctor's choice to save a child causes the deaths of many, and he still believes he did the right thing in saving him.
Disappointed a bit with Darker Than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini. It had it's a moments occasionally, but I felt it was somewhat of a letdown compared to the first. Plus, the ending had me going wtf? Suou was great though. :D |
I don't have a lot of time, so I'm gonna narrow it down to three, that surprised me. :3
Baccano!; It took me a couple of years to watch this series, and I would've NEVER watched it on my own. From glancing at the pictures, and seeing icons, it seemed like something that I just wouldn't be into. 'Always try everything once', though, and while I was bored one day, a friend of mine was ranting about it's awesomness. That's just it, though.. my friend tends to like more comical things, were as I'm more into drama. He kept telling me how funny it was, so I STILL thought I wouldn't like it. Yeah, I was wrong. xD; I watched the first two episodes, and it hooked me. Definitely had the drama in there with the humor, very original characters, and also an original (if not weird..) plot line to boost. Glad I gave it a go, even if it took some pushes. It's similar 'Durarara', and if you like one, you'll like the other. Monster; This series has been out since 2004 in Japan, it ended in 2005, and I didn't watch it until 2008 - but mygod it's awesome. I watched it out of boredom, and wanted something different than the typical, upbeat, cutesy anime. I definitely found it, and Monster makes every other srs bsns series I've ever seen look like a Disney movie. Series that are typically seen as 'omg, so hard to understand' are nothing in comparison to Monster. It makes Death Note, and Stand Alone Complex look like Tinkerbell, and I've never stuck with such a long series until the end. It has.. 74 episodes, I believe. I got through them all in a pretty fast amount of time. It's still one of my favorite series, and I'd watch it again. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann; I'm not gonna lie, I was totally turned off by this series when it first came about. Back in 2007, I hardly gave it a second glance. I watched the first two episodes, found it sort of dull, and never looked back until.. aaah.. two weeks ago? Because it's nearly three years later, and people are still going on about it. I gotta say, I do understand why now. I find it's characters to be really likable, the plot is.. very different, and the entire concept is something I've never seen before. Well, there's the mecha's, but other than that. Wow, just wow. I know a lot of people criticize this series, and pick at all it's flaws, but if you watch it with a positive outlook on it.. I see nothing wrong with it hardly at all. I'm really disappointed that I didn't try it again sooner, and I'm honestly not sure why I didn't like it back in '07. |
Good=Old Pokemon Bad=New Pokemon. Yup. Go away Ash and evolve you're Pikachu.
|
Good: Until Deoxys Movie. That is all.
Oh and Darkrai was good. But shaymin was annoying as hell. |
An anime that amazed me is/was One Piece. I first saw it on CN with the 4Kids dub, back then I thought of it in the same way as Naruto: Not my thing. For some reason I gave it a second chance with subtitles. Then I realized that it's the perfect kind of anime for me. It's awesome!
Anime that have disappointed me have been FLCL, Gintama, and Katekyo Hitman REBORN!. The three of them have a large amount of hype surrounding them. None of them are as good as that hype says they are. FLCL is ridiculous and random, and while I can appreciate that in other series, FLCL does it wrong. Gintama, well everybody makes it out to be the funniest thing ever. It isn't bad, but it really isn't all of that funny. I'd put it on about the same level as Family Guy. And Family Guy is only occasionally funny for me, but the rest of the time it misses, and the failed humor drags it down. Gintama does exactly the same thing. Plus it has very little consistency, seriousness and not much of a story at all. There are a few serious arcs here and there, but with all of the hit and miss humor it's hard to even get to them. Katekyo Hitman REBORN! is another not so bad series, but it has a bunch of people everywhere to say it's the best Shounen ever. In all truth it is about "average" along with Naruto and Bleach. Annoying characters reallly drag the series down, plus the plot just isn't interesting. The artstyle is a bit "Meh." (I don't like to judge with that, but a lot of the fangirls talk about how 'hot' the males are, and let me tell you it's very hard for me to see that with the artstyle...) REBORN! can be quite entertaining when there is action, which is kind of the flip of what I enjoy in a Shounen. The light-hearted, non action parts of REBORN! rarely entertain me, and there is a lot of that... Including the first twenty episodes. D: |
Hajime no Ippo: I'm not the kind of person who cares about unknown anime, so I didn't think I would like this, especially after hearing it was about sports. I regret thinking that way. The style it was drawn in was/is really great, and the show had a lot of character development with plenty of hilarious moments. I can't even remember watching a filler that made me lost hope for the show. It's amazing, and it's still going strong with over 800 chapters, showing no hint at an ending any time soon.
Gantz:Granted, it was only a few episodes long, but it was great. Quite possibly the coolest anime since it features lots of blood, nudity, and gore, while still keeping the story interesting. Aokie Densetsu Shoot!: Or however it's spelled. Basically like Hajime no Ippo, but with association football instead of boxing. They have a great plot twist right in the middle of the story, which is always a good thing. Now for the wall of shame. Naruto: I don't see what people like about it. The battles are lame and way too drawn out, and they put fillers all over the place, most of which have little to no character development, and has no point for anything other than entertainment. Oh, and they're ninjas. It isn't the fact that it's way too cliche, but what bothers me is that they aren't ninja like at all. When you think of ninjas, at the very least you think of something like this, just with smaller weapons and sleeves. Since when was a blond ninja in an orange jumpsuit stealthy at all? Thankfully, it looks like they plan to end it soon, seeing as how that godforsaken sequel seems to be nearing its end. Bleach: Just no. The idea wasn't the most overused, but it still has the most drawn out battles of all time. The anime could've done without Hueco Mundo and ended it's life before it passed its prime, but they just had to ruin it. The battles are absurd(seriously, they barely live against one enemy at one time but get a huge burst of power just a few days later. This isn't Dragon Ball.) and drawn out, if I didn't already say that. The Hueco Mundo arc isn't finished because for every one episode there, they seem to have 10 filler episodes. I don't see why they had to do it at the worst time for flashbacks. Why couldn't they do it at a time that made sense? Oh, right. They're fillers. To Love-Ru: Honestly, it's quite terrible. I only watched it for the cheap laughs they gave, and that's all. It's plagued by innuendo and awkward moments, which is good when used in moderation, but the overuse of it just made me have a bad taste in my mouth afterwards. I know a few others, but I can't be bothered to remember their names. |
I have been impressed by everything CLAMP has ever done (especially Cardcaptor Sakura, which is my favorite anime/manga), excluding the anime adaptation of Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, which apparently CLAMP wasn't impressed with, either. My current avatar is from "Kobato." (EDIT: I've since changed it), a currently airing anime adaptation of the CLAMP manga by the same name. I just started watching it, and I'm extremely impressed so far. I started watching based on a plot summary, but the characters and atmosphere really drew me in; they even played part of Dvorak's "New World Symphony," my favorite classical music piece, in episode 2. Plus, the closing credits song is by Megumi, who has done, among other things, the voice-work and songs for Ranka from Macross Frontier (I'm a big fan of her work).
Also, many of KEY's works have impressed me (Clannad, Kanon, and Planetarian to name a few). Kanon 2006 is one of my favorite anime, and the visual novel of Planetarian had me crying for a really long time. I also really liked 5 Centimeters per Second, though I won't watch it again because it was actually too powerful for me. Especially at the end... ;_; |
Disappointed:
Code Geass. Recommended to me by a friend, made it out to be this epic political war full of giant robots and mind****s. It's certainly full of badly designed giant robots, and retarded plot twists made out to be mind****s, but epic political war it is not. Amazed: Princess Tutu. A friend burned the whole series to a DVD and gave it to me for my birthday. Thought it would just be a regular happy-go-lucky cute magical girl show. Oh god was I surprised. Slayers. Another friend recommendation. I saw the very first episode at her house, and it looked a bit interesting but generic and not particularly amazing. God was I proven wrong when I actually got into the series. |
Amazing:
Baka to Test to Shokanju After everyone was going on about how "OMG, WINTER 2010 SUXORZ", I was kinda skeptical about this one. The "cliche" humor and gg's translations, however, erased any doubts I had from my mind about this being a funny show. Bacanno! An anime set in America with a noir overtone. How everything connects together at the end is simply amazing. Kuchu Buranko If you've seen it, you know. Disappoint: CLANNAD (Not afterstory) I blame Jordan for building this one up too much. I was expecting more tear jerking moments and humor. :< Black Cat This anime seemed really rushed plot wise. I'd imagine an anime like this to be longer than 23 episodes. Also, Train's character was a big mope while I was expecting more of a really laid back guy who suddenly turns into a bad ass at certain points. K-ON! ENOUGH WITH THE TEA PARTIES. LEARN TO PLAY MUSIC ALREADY. щ(゚Д゚щ) |
My favourite anime shows of all time are these:
1. .hack (all series) 2. Wolfs Rain 3. DBZ (all series) 4. Pokemon 5. Gundam Wing 6. Pokemon I hate: Yu Gi Oh Monster Rancher (Though I love the game.) And crazy disappointed by Blue Dragon. ....Oh and person that said Code Geass failed, Code Geass is awesome sauce. |

I was also not impressed with Darker Than Black, which I thought was slow and lacked interesting characters. I don't know why exactly, but I went into that show expecting something... more. As for what has impressed me, Macross Frontier was a big surprise. I've seen a lot of the other Macross incarnations so maybe that's part of it, but I was expecting a little more of the same: silly characters, decent (but not great) music, a rehash of the old plot. Everything went way beyond that. The story just kept getting better, the in-jokes only the old fans would get, the music! And it was super-high budget and it shows. Loads of fun. I also really liked what they've done with the new Evangelion movies. I expected they would be generic retellings in movie format like many other shows have done. I've seen the TV show, and it's okay, but the movies did away with a lot of the unnecessary angst (they left in enough) and added some badly needed character development. It's much better this way. |
Two titles that completely took me by surprise (in a good way):
Saki: Despite knowing absolutely nothing about mahjong and not being a real fan of tournament-style shows, I enjoyed this one. Might be the cute girls, might be the fact that they make the game look so exciting and intense, but starting with the tourney episodes, I was hooked. Hitohira: This is one of those shows that seemingly comes out of nowhere and takes you by complete surprise. I was thoroughly impressed. The show achieves a balance of comedy, drama, and romance into a short but sweet package. An action series it's not, but if you're looking for a heartwarming show about building self confidence and changing who you are, give it a try. Two titles that completely took me by surprise (in a bad way): Seiken no Blacksmith: Where do I start? The storyline here asks that very same question, as this show is mostly people hanging around, a couple battles, and an entire side-arc that played no role in the actual storyline. and all this for the first 8 or 9 episodes. And considering thi is a 13-episode show, you do the math. Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Purezza: I enjoyed the first season of Nogizaka Haruka and was looking forward to the new season. Little did I know that the second time around, Haruka's otaku-ness (yeah, that's a word now) was put on the back burner, Haruka herself was put on the back burner (pretty sad when she's the title character), and half the episodes were devoted to Yuuto's harem, including characters who only have one pr two episodes and are never seen again. Most of what worked first season was cut out second season. And call me crazy, but in the 12 episodes, I don't think the relationship between Yuuto and Haruka took a step forward at all - they're at the same place they were at the end of first season. What was the point again? (Note: I've omitted series like Naruto, DBZ, most recent Pokemon seasons, and the like because, although I didn't care for them, I had low expectations for them anyway and so I wasn't really "disappointed" by them.) |
Eh. I haven't been too interested in anime lately. But most of it is disappointment due to my cynicism toward the industry.
Darker than Black: Ryusei no Gemini was just disappointing. It wasn't much of a trainwreck as Code Geass R2 but damn, what the heck did they do to it? It disappoints me that this anime decides to follow the trend much like every other anime. By having a loli as a main character instead of Hei from the previous season. Hei is still there and all. But... He become depowered in order to not overshadow Suou who was then suddenly turned into a Contractor. >_> And do they always have to use that stock footage of a naked Suou summoning her weapon over and over? My lord. The anime use to be unique by not being like every anime, no big busts or fanservice-y scene but this... just make me facepalm. Heck, look at what they did to a badass like Hei. Not to mention the pacing is... just terrible. As well as the writing. Characters they introduced just get killed off. And the ending was like "lolwut?" Also, what happened to everything from the first season? Aren't they supposed to be still fighting the Syndicate or what? What the heck happened? Surely, the budget killed it for only having 12 episodes but I doubt the writing would've been better. Especially with Suou as the main character. It's definitely not the story of the previous Darker than Black cast. |
I was not expecting to like Ouran High School Host Club, since I dislike most shoujo anime. However, I actually found it enjoyable. It was a hilarious series with a great cast of characters.
When I heard that Ranma 1/2 was a martial arts comedy about a boy who can turn into a girl, I figured I would like it. Instead, it turned out to be a pile of dung. It had an awful plot that centered almost exclusively on the characters' inter-relationships and a mostly annoying cast of characters (do NOT get me started on Akane and Shampoo >_>). I also hated how it tried to force people to like Ranma and Akane's toxic relationship. There is nothing entertaining about two domineering people constantly fighting for power and abusing each other (Ranma through emotional abuse and Akane through both emotional and physical abuse). If anything, their interaction is painful to watch. Furthermore, the show discriminates against those who are attracted to the same sex, cross-dressers, and transgendered/transsexual individuals. In the show, those with same sex attractions, who liked to cross-dress, or were transgendered/transsexual were treated like garbage by the majority of the show's cast, including Ranma and Akane themselves (funny that Ranma acted this way considering he himself turns into a girl). I detest bigotry, and to see it promoted in Ranma 1/2 made my blood boil. Additionally, the show enforces gender roles. Most of its female characters want to become housewives just for the sake of fulfilling societal expectations and winning Ranma's affections. Likewise, the majority of its male characters desire to become "men among men" solely to meet societal expectations and win over whoever they are crushing on. I also felt that the show promoted arranged marriage. While Ranma and Akane did complain about being arranged fiances, they did still fall for one another despite being an incompatible pair. If the show did not promote arranged marriage, I would imagine they would have fallen for other people instead of for each other. I had high expectations for Slayers, too. I read it was a good series, yet I thought it was barely below average. Sure, it had a few likable characters, but the majority of them were irritating. I also felt that its plot was largely uninteresting and its humor was mostly tasteless. |
Well, I'm going to leave the good for the next post, but here is what I got disappointed in alot. Only two animes really disappointed me greatly. Suzumiya Haruhi S2 and Kampfer (5.93 and 6.4 scores out of 10 for the titles)
Suzumiya Haruhi (2009) I don't know what the hell Kadokawa and KyoAni messed this up. The first episode was good, but it went downhill quickly with Endless Eight since it repeated 8 times. Yep, 8 times and I just gave up watching Endless Eight and start ranting on it on my Blog instead of covering the Endless Eight arc. However it ended and we are left with the mediocre Sighs arc which Haruhi acts like a jerk... But, you know what happens. This is in fact the first anime on my list to ever get the lowest score over, 5.93, technically an F, but I heard that the movie done better than the second season. Kampfer Well, dropped after watching Episode 1... The concept is okay, male character becomes a Kampfer and has to turn into a girl for the genderbending aspect. However, it gets alot worse with blatant fanservice and no substance. I also decided to watch Episode 6, and it got worse and the lead character seems to have this crush on this controlling love interest named Sakura... Nuff said, it was a horrible experience and dropped again. |
Gurren Lagann has never disappointed me. I'd suggest you watch it.
|
Amazed: One Piece. My god, it's been 5 YEARS and I'm still watching/reading it. I love it, the plot, the people, everything.
Terrible: Bleach. I watched up until Hueco Mundo. I thought it was good, but after careful analysis I realized it lacked a plot, and the main character made no sense at all. |
LUCKY STAR!!!!!
Moving on... Good anime: Kenko Zenrakei Suieibu Umisho: Possibly my favorite anime of all time. Lots of ecchi, but I couldn't care less about that in this case. I couldn't help but fall in love with all of the characters, and I laughed through every second of every episode. (I also recommend the manga. It has a lot of stuff that the anime left out.) Bad Anime: 11 Eyes: This one just felt stupid to me right off the bat... plus the voice acting was really bad. Never before have I been able to tell whether or not a Japanese voice actor was actually good or not (Probably because I don't speak Japanese.) But this... it was just baad. |
Amazing Anime
Detective Conan Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Dragon Ball Dragon Ball Z Dragon Ball Kai Rurouni Kenshin One Piece Alot more Disappointed animes Shin-Chan(Didnt like it) Dragon Ball GT(I like it cause of DB, DBZ, but this is my least favorite out of my anime list) Yugioh(4kids dub) -cant think of any others xD. |
Gravion
I couldn't bring myself to watch more then the first two episodes. A generic Super Robot show, with unappealing character clichés (lol she has stupidly large breasts / lol she's so timid and clumsy and wears glasses), horrible pandering (why is the background cast full of girls in maid outfits?) an uninspired plot and the mecha battles aren't even particularly good to make up for it. |
Amazed:
Wolf's Rain - I know, furry galore, but I watched this with my best friend one weekend, and it was amazing. Very different, very unique. I love it. Disappointed: Bleach - Do I really have to say anything more? Naruto - Again, I don't think an explanation is necessary Hetalia Axis Powers - Oh my god. I tried to watch it, and I tried to enjoy it, but no. Just no. I wanted to cry afterwards. Between Italy's constant pasta gag getting old after 5 minutes (which is how long each episode is), and the lack of any standard plot development, this made me want to just cry. I think it's just too cute for me. |
Railgun: Well, Index wasn't so good either (the book is uninteresting, what did I expect?) but Railgun is far worse.
A spin-off of a series that didn't catch my attention... why am I watching it anyway? Since it's on TV when I'm awake at night. |
Amazed:
Hunter X Hunter NHK ni Youkoso! Monster I erase from my mind the disappointing ones |
Bleach is disappoint. I think we found the meaning of crap.
-Okami |
Yes, I'm bored.
Disclaimer, personal opinions, don't twist panties, etc. Amazing: Durarara! I was expecting this to be an amazing series. It delivered. All the characters are incredible, and the way that there isn't really one protagonist is great. It makes it so that all of the characters are lovable, and you never really get tired of just one. The way they all tie in with one another is just brilliant. Though not exactly original, since this was the way it was with Baccano. Guess it's the mangaka's trademark. Eden of the East I was expecting this one to be amazing too- and it delivered, just as DRRR!. Ending sucked, but hopefully that will be resolved in the movie. Kimi Ni Todoke Ughhh, so incredible. xAx The animation.... I love it. Story is great too- but definitely not for people who don't love slice-of-life. Personally being the biggest SoL fan in town, I adore this adaptation. And cannot effing wait for the Live-Action. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood Shoot me now- why wasn't I into this series before? Probably because it wasn't the real story, with the first anime. I love the plot in this- the characters, particularly the ones that were actually left out of the first adaption, are so much fun. It has a very light twist and I love it. Not to mention they don't drag everything out fifty episodes each event. Ouran High School Host Club Frickin' hilarious. I loved the voice acting, the animation was delicious, and the story was great. Ending wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst for an anime original ending either. Props for that. Made a BONES fan out of me. Kobato This was an anime you really had to like to sit through. It's an adorable slice-of-life to me. Easily one of CLAMP's better works when you think in the more present-day context. Characters are lovable, and it's not uber confusing like Tsubasa. =3=;; Samurai Champloo I started watching this convinced that I wouldn't like it. I just couldn't stand the art style. But everything else won me over. Story, animation, characters, Jin, comedy... I loved this series through and through, and it was definitely a pleasant surprise. Incredible OST as well. Gundam 00 Season 1. Season 1. Amazing as heck and the only mecha I've ever liked. No toy-box robots like Geass that made me snort and spit milk all over the monitor. Ass whupping machines of destruction. And H/Allelujah Haptism + Hiroyuki Yoshino. What more could you ask of a series. Disappoint: Gundam 00 S2 I'm just going to leave it at first mention. Hopefully the movie redeems this mess. The Melacholy of Suzumiya Haruhi I went into this hoping I'd come out an avid Haru-fan. I left an avid Haru-hater. The series in general isn't so bad, but I just can't stand Haruhi. Basquash! RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAGE. This series was so AMAZING in the beginning, and then... It started to suck. More. And more. Until a screencap of it should've been put next to the definition of "FAIL". Fairy Tail I adore the manga like no other. But the anime's quality is so guhh I had a hard time watching even the first few episodes. It's picking up into a moderately good arc now, so I might be up for picking it back up but... It's been so long since I watched an anime that used stock. =3=; Vampire Knight GUH. /GUH/. Those who share my sentiments need no further explanation. |

UMMMMMMM I was really amazed by the stuff I liked, and disappointed by the stuff that I didn't like. Yeah. Haruhi 2009? What's that? Is it tasty? |
Amazed - Bleach and Death Note :D
Naruto.. =/ tis kk Digimon was the worst thing i ever saw.. >.< |
+ Princess Tutu: The only reason I watched it was because it was on Anime On Demand (when that was still around) and I was checking out all the anime they had on there. I was disappointed when they stopped showing it, but years later, I picked it up again because I just needed to finish it, and it was amazing. The only thing wrong with this anime is the title. The title is what definitely throws a lot of people off. It's not just another mahou shoujo with classical music. It's so much more.
+ Kaleido Star: This was surprisingly engaging. To me, it had a similar atmosphere to Card Captor Sakura (with the comedy and the determination from the main female characters) without the mahou shoujo effect. Still, this show was very magical. It was, indeed. + Inuyasha The Final Act: I'm surprised how quick paced the last season is. Although there are still three more episodes to watch, I'm amazed at how much I'm looking forward to the end and all the while sad that it's finally ending. I haven't read the manga, so I don't know how much they follow it, but I've noticed that a couple of episodes seem almost too rushed when I had to go back and see if I was watching the right episode or not. Otherwise, it's as great as ever along with some Ipod-worthy opening and ending songs. - Umineko no Naku Koro ni: I might have enjoyed it more if I watched it all in one sitting instead of waiting for the episodes to come out, but it was so hard to follow with all the different characters and the crazy plot twists. I know it was not supposed to be anything like Higurashi, but I was still disappointed of how everything was played out. The only good thing about it was the opening and ending songs and the fact that I wanted to see how it all was going to end. Otherwise, it was hard to enjoy because everything jumped around too much. - ef - a tale of memories.: I heard great things from it and I was impressed by the animation, but I had to drop it because it seemed to be going at an awfully slow pace. I mean, I get that the art is what got this anime's name out there, but they were trying too hard. If someone can convince me otherwise, I doubt I'm going to pick this up again any time soon. |

- Sengoku Basara - Nodame Cantabile - Nodame Cantabile: Paris-Hen - Chobits - Saber Marionette J Dissapointed - Hetalia Axis Powers - Air Gear (The anime version sucks. The manga version is....awesome 8Db) |
Quote:
The thing with Holic and Tsubasa is that they're both so... confusing. At least, towards the end of Tsubasa, I was completely lost. xD; I was never really a fan of CLAMP's older works either though. It's probably the art style that puts me off though- I'm really sensitive about art. :C Quote:
It was so epically bizarre it rocked my rocked. Air Gear anime was pretty fail, I agree- but it was nice to see them in action, and the OST was incredible. c: Easily my favorite OST to date. <3 |
I actually enjoyed air gear, probably because of it's epic OST!
I also really loved Detective Conan, would have loved a faithful dub but because of legal reasons couldn't name it Detective Conan. Makes really no sense to change all the names, the actual story is still kept in tact and the actual translation is pretty damn faithful. Would still have preferred the original names.. And would love to see the Anime series continue to dub! I loved every episode that aired on Adult Swim, I've seen over 300 episodes in Japanese but would like the English version to continue and I'd love for FUNimation to License the South-East Asians English Dub"which is 100% faithful" |

Now, my turn~ Amazed: Gurren Lagann: IF you know me, you know I hate mechas. But Gurren Lagann...is something else. Gotta love the characters, the BGM, the plot. Definitely a good work of art (b' ')b Clannad: When I was gonna watch it, I thought it was just gonna be some other slice of life series that I wouldn't get into. Even with its cliches, though, I kinda like it so far :3 /I own the whole first season and I still haven't finished it yet >.> 5cm per Second: OMG I felt really sad when I was done watching this ;_; It was really good but still really sad at the same time D: Disappointed: OK, time to surprise everybody, y/y? Fairy Tail: OK, I got into this series because I decided to watch the anime first. But after catching up in the manga and waiting every week for a new chapter to be translated and get on the web, the anime really doesn't compare to the manga. The only things I DO like about the anime itself are the voice actors (Natsu = Simon from TTGL FOR THE WIN), and the BGM. If you ask me, Fairy Tail definitely has some of the best BGM I've ever heard <3 It's Celtic and whatnot, and I guess that just really reaches out to me (I have a few Celtic backgrounds). I'll still watch the series, though~ I mean, it's definitely better than other anime adaptations I've seen. *coughcoughNARUTOANDBLEACHcoughcough* Umineko: At first, I liked it more than Higurashi (keep in mind I was on episode 5 of Higurashi when I was on about episode 6 of Umineko). But then after finishing the first season of Higurashi and watching about 15 more episodes of Umineko, it got really confusing. I do love the characters though <3 (especially the seven stakes of Purgatory + Sakutaro) |
Impressed:
Code Geass - Lelouch puts Light to shame. And that's saying quite a lot. Higurashi - The first 4 episodes hold the honour of being the only anime to creep me out. Digimon - You know it's an awesome anime if it's the reason I started watching anime. Dissapointed: Naruto - ... Dissapointed doesn't even come close to how I feel about this monstrosity. Lucky Star - This is entertaining... how? |
Quote:
Durarara. This anime, when first impression, I was like, meh. Well, I never really liked Baccano, It's not like I hated it, but I never liked it either. So when I heard it was a Baccano-look alike, I was like, no way. But what made me watch this anime was the Suzuhito Yasuda art. Maid Machinegun, Yozakura Quartet and Devil Survivor art was really, really good. So I thought I'll watch it just for the sake of the art. Never regretted it since. |
Amazed:
Ah, My Goddess: When my friend was talking about this, for one, the name was just... Well, that was the first reason why I thought the anime would suck and then figuring out if was a romantic comedy, I was sold on the idea of hating it with a passion -.- After talking about this anime for going on months and months, I finally asked to borrow the first season and see why she loved it so much, and I can tell you, I seen why. This anime is so awesome, I fell in love with it, by far might become my fav. anime. It is funny and cute and just... Whoa... To me anyways, but hey, I am weird. Death Note: I got to say, this anime blew me away... When on my old site, my friends where talking about it on our chat and I had no idea what it was about. Well, adult swim finally gets it on air and so I sit down and watch it and I love the ideal behind it. It just... I don't know how to say it, but just has that thing that catches me, not the idea about a note book of death, but just... that kind of intellect in this anime, the thought process involved, that is why I love it and why I believe it is an amazing anime. Code Geass: Basiclly the same as Death Note, the reason I like it and everyhing. I am falling asleep at the keyboard, I will edit this post tomorrow but for right now I am going to read and sleep. |
Zoids Chaotic Century/Zoids Guardian Force
Easily the best anime I've ever watched. I own the DVD box set as well as a set of the entire series on my external harddrive. I watch it at least once a month [parts of it anyways] and I've got a good portion of the lines memorized. The plot, the characters, the way they handled the war; it's just absolutely incredible. Sailor Moon R [Second Half with Chibi Usa and Dark Lady] This is the first and only anime to ever make me bawl without some sort of warning. The realistic way the giant 20-episode-ish fight between Mamoru and Usagi was handled impeccably and, again, it has incredibly high replay value. Air TV The second anime to ever make me cry. I've never played the visual novel being that I run a mac for almost all of my daily activities and things like that but I've heard it's not as good. I dunno, the series made me bawl at the end because of how much I could relate to the characters. They weren't overdone in my opinion, they were done realistically. They didn't seem animated. Gakuen Alice/Fruits Basket We'll lump these two together because I have the same complaint. They were finished before the manga and the ending was rushed. Gakuen Alice's manga is bloody incredible and there's a reason Fruits Basket is as highly rated as it is. The Anime fails. Gakuen Alice didn't get to the most vital freaking plot point because they decided not to wait for the manga people to catch up. Fruits Basket took Momiji's German Heritage and flushed it and twisted the plot worse than 4Kids twisted the One Piece Opening. It's just bad and while I own the DVD set, I'm not really proud of that fact. At all. Ground Defense Force: Mao-chan This anime is a hoot. I rented it from the library and I got hooked to it. It's fuzzy feeling and cut into 15 minute episodes like Hanamaru Kindergarten which is another series I adore. It's good for when you need a laugh. The Cute Aliens must be destroyed! Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha God this anime and all its arcs were amazing. Suffices to say this series holds a special place in my heart because of some friend memes that came out of it but this is the only other complete series I have on my external harddrive. I also have all the OSTs and the Sound Dramas. Wat. D: Vivio is adorable. Yumeiro Patissiere Another Shojou feel good anime, this one is about cake. Enough said. A Sentence on Animes I really REALLY didn't like Card Captor Sakura Season 1 The episodes were dull and boring. I loved seasons 2 and 3, 1 got sooo old so fast. xx; Bleach/Naruto Filler Arcs. Gundam Seed Gundam pilots are manly men who are not Ken Barbie Dolls. Haruhi in all its Forms Haruhi needs to be hit by a bus. Death Note Anime The Live Action was so much better u_u;; The Ojamajo Doremi Dub The only thing it did right was bring the mahou toys to the US. |
I don't watch much anime unless it's on adult swim. I like anime and everything, but not enough to actually go search for it on the internet and stuff.
Amazed: FLCL - Epic characters. Loved this one. Nostalgia of watching with an old friend, too. Death Note - The only anime that I watched entirely in Japanese before the english dubs were aired in the states. Light ftw. I bought a replica death note online from 399animeshop, although it just collects dust now. Code Geass - Very exciting anime. Every episode = cliffhanger? I seriously almost couldn't wait for the next week's episode to see what happened next. InuYasha - That was when I was young and didn't realize how lame it really was...Stfu. Cowboy Bebop - Awesome theme song, well, just awesome music altogether. Spike was the man. Disappointed: SD Gundam - WTF??? Midget Gundams, really? Any Dragonball past Z. I really didn't like anything after the Cell Saga anyway, though. ^I agree that the Live Action Death Notes were better than the anime. I still love the anime to death though. |
Recently, I watched the first five episodes of Hunter x Hunter. Considering I am a big fan of Yu Yu Hakusho, I was expecting to be just as impressed (if not more-so) with this series. However, it turned out to be a joke. From what I have seen of Hunter x Hunter, it has a boring plot completely lacking in action and drama. Most of its characters are also awful. In particular, Gon is an incredibly bland character without any personality. The only one who I do not dislike is Leorio, but even he is not that great (more like he is just tolerable).
Perhaps Hunter x Hunter does get better later on. However, if the show failed to impress me in five episodes, chances are I will never grow to like it. After all, most of the anime I have seen had me sold with a single episode, including Yu Yu Hakusho. Quote:
Overall, I hated the third film. It was supposed to better develop L's character (which I wanted to see since I found him unimpressive in both the anime and Live Action films), but it turned out being utter garbage >_> Quote:
I have only seen clips of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. From those alone, Haruhi completely turned me off from the series. I could not stand anything about her. Why she has so many fans is beyond me. Then again, maybe people just find obnoxious female leads appealing. This would also explain why Lina Inverse from Slayers and Akane Tendou from Ranma 1/2 also have many fans. |
Amazed me: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, I thought the plot was amazing, hadn't watched anything like it, I loved the characters, the anime hooked me very quickly.
ToraDora!: I watched it RAW, so I didn't understand ALL the jokes, but I still found this to be hilarious, unique, imo, and just.. I loved it. I need to get around to finishing it, as its been.. a year since I stopped. :< Konjiki No Gash! (Manga) : THIS MANGA IS SO GOOD. Despite being a typical Shounen manga, I loved how the characters developed and interacted with one another. Raiku (Manga-ka), made all the death scenes really touching, and that was another thing I loved about this manga (Even though they mademe cry ;; ). Soul Eater: I haven't read or watched it in a year and I don't remember why, to be honest. ;; But I have three volumes and almost the entire series downloaded, which means I liked it. xD" Dislike: Bleach: ... it was boring, I found it stupid and just... crappy. :/ Bokurano: I don't know, I like this series, yet I hate it. I thought it was pretty unique, but the way the series progressed and the characters dying.. I didn't find it very enjoyable. ._. Konjiki No Gash! (Anime) : ... Way to steer away from the manga. :C It ended completely differently from the manga and not in a good way. It was such an expected ending I felt that I didn't even have to watch episodes 2-149 because I already knew exactly how it was going to go. .-. Death Note: .... God, this is so overrated. It does NOT deserve all the praise it gets, sure its an okay anime, but I thought it was just... stupid. "ohai i kill u w/ my notebook lol" |
Animes that amazed me:
Great Teacher Onizuka Death Note Full Metal Panic Pokemon Digimon - and many more Animes that disappointed me: Bleach Dragon Ball Z Naruto Nyan Koi! Gundam Seed |
Whats with all the hate on bleach????
Amazed: Bleach Fairy Tail and those are really the only animes I've ever really gotten into. *goes bankai and Getsuga Tenshous all who were disapointed with Bleach* |
Death Note. I'd assumed by its HUGE fanbase that it was just another stupid shonen thing all the girls loved. Instead, I loved its intricate, original plot, the characterisation and art. It blew me away.
|
Code Geass. Freaking amazing. My favorite anime currently. I was in amazement through the whole thing.
|
I really liked:
Jigouku Shoujo, really nice episodes, heck they can teach you a lesson Ranma 1/2, lol very random stuff but really hilarious Detective School Q, very nice show as well. Sgt. Keroro, again very funny I hated: Lamu, it's so stupid it's not even funny |
Amazed:
D.Gray-Man: I just clicked on it randomly for fun on onemanga because I found the name weird. When I saw the cover page I thought it was going to be another martial arts thingy. It's currently one of my favorite animes. Law of Ueki: Well, I don't know exactly where, but I had heard about it and I had a vague picture of a light green-haired kid in a white school shirt in my mind, and I knew that he had the power to turn trash into trees (which I found...strange) and that he was participating in some tournament to decide the next god. But I'd thought that the participants were the ones trying to become God...I don't know where I got all this information, but I was really surprised when I actually watched it. I wasn't too sure about it after I'd finished episode one, but now I'm really glad I continued it. It's exactly the kind of anime I love. Tournament, super powers, supernatural, comedy, action, shounen...perfect for me. Yes, I know the plot is pretty un-original and the characters are cliche and all, and that the graphics aren't exactly top-notch and that there isn't really anything that makes it special. But the battles are just awesome and the anime is just fun to watch, even if it you might find it a bit childish. Currently one of my favorite animes. Oh, and I love the openings~ Disappointed: Night Wizard: Only seen a couple of episodes, but so far it's failed to grasp my interest. Maybe I'll think differently if I watch more. |
Angel Beats is god awful.
Easily one of the most looked-forward-to anime of 2010. I mean with KEY on staff, how could it not turn out amazing? As much as I love KEY's anime, I can not bear to think what will become of this series. First episode, where expectations are held the highest, had the animation of a 2005 series. The story made absolutely no sense. No backstory. No character development. And awful character design. Yuri is a purple-haired clone of Haruhi. She even retains the bossy attitude and everything. The visuals were not much better. So poorly animated, it almost looked as though it was tossed together last minute. Thier entire budget was pretty much spent on one concert scene, and it wasn't even that good. And it was rediculous to choreograph a fight scene to J-Pop. Modern anime has left me in despair once again. Way to go Aniplex. >: |

Anyways, anime that amazes me was last season's Ladies vs. Butler. I expected it to be mindless ecchi, which it was, but it's like a super-perverted Toradora. It's like... Nyan Koi with more boob shot or something. Nevetheles, I watched it, dropped it, and currently watching and loving it. |

Didn't the director say something along the lines of "the first episode WILL get you hooked on this series!" in an interview? He lied to us all. As for Ichiban ushiro no Maou, I found it much more entertaining because I never had any high expectations for it. It fills the void of Kampfer, but judging with episode one alone, is a "better Kampfer." |

http://i733.photobucket.com/albums/ww336/otakulily/Mazui_Angel_Beats_-_01v2_B1437C3-1.jpg Yes, I know. This girl really knows how to use a rifle. I was just terribly annoyed with the animation. I realize that different teams are working on this project (as opposed to the animation studio for most of KEY's works), thus inevitably different animation styles, but the animation was just really cheap-looking. Bow down to P.A. Works and all it's glory. |
Supporting Angel Beats: lol she's a school girl-ghost thing. School girls don't know how to use rifles, amirite.
Against Angel Beats: Episode 2 wasn't all that special either, not really looking forward to episode 3... seriously, why am I watching a boring series? Just because of "Key" in the credits? |

07-Ghost really disappointed me.
I liked the setting, characters, and overall vibe of it but it was all ruined by DAT TERRIBLE ENDING. |
I was dissapointed in...Full Metal Alchemist. It was okay, but it gets boring watching them do the same things over and over each battle. *clap* "my hand is a sword!" *clap* "I shoot stuff out of the walls at you! Oh, no! My fake arm broke! I'll have to get it repaired, AGAIN, but meanwhile, I'll just hit my dead arm to continue killing you with cheap tricks that I've always used!" *muffles clap*
MY favorite anime is Zatch Bell...subbed. XD America kinda ruined the whole series. O_o Wow, I sound like a hater. XP |
Impressed:
Fate/Stay Night - At the beginning the story was pacing really slowly, but later the story hooks me up and just doesn't let me go, and the fact that main characters die gives me more "thrill", like, for example I'm watching an episode and I see Rin in trouble (She's one of my favourite characters! xD) and I'm like "No, don't die, don't die!". It's also a Romance anime, so I thought that the main character would be the usual dumb and shallow hero that blushes and nosebleeds everytime he's close to a girl, but I was wrong - well, it wasn't a harem, but at that time I didn't know what harem was. xD Angel Beats! - What can I say, it just grabbed me and I can't seem to stop watching it! The graphics are stunning and I get a "different" feel watching this. Waiting another week for one episode is like waiting 1 month... Dissapointed: Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou - The first episode was amazing, again the visuals took me away, I could straight away tell it's a harem, but the main character wasn't really dumb, at least not as much as other characters in harems I see. Well, the animation in the first episode was top notch and the action was amazing! The first episode was so good, which gave me hopes that the next episodes will have the same quality, however I was dissappointed with episode 2, because the animation looked flawed (battle with demon dog) and there were some "weird" bits in the drawings of the characters. The main character was also presented as a dumb character, at least if we compare him to his presentation in the first episode where he brings out this speech(He looked cool) or when he tried to take a low position in helping school (cleaning/mopping?) where he made this expression and stroke his hair, which usually the cool/player characters usually do. I just hope the next episodes get better. |
DBZ!!!!! was the best!!!!! Why would anyone hate or be dissapointed in DBZ.
(Dragon Ball Z) |
There are toooo many anime that I have loved. I'll just name off my top 5. They are (always changing @[email protected] Hard to decide but for now...!):
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: is very funny and very cute. I'm not so into mecha, but I fell in love with Kamina and Shimon, the way Shimon grows up into a leader after Kamina... no spoilers! I love Yoko, too<3 I love her so much! She's amazing~ She's pretty and can snipe! I'm afraid that if she was real she'd steal my boyfriend from me @[email protected] (Cuz he loves sniping in games and I can't snipe for donuts if I was starving) >m< Lucky Star: Cute, fun, and a good look at just how weird otaku can seem<3 And I know the dance step-by-step! NANA: AMAZED ME! I was obsessed with it<3 I looove the Nanas and I can relate to Hachi-Nana very well<3 Toradora: The little love scenes, and shyness, and all the fluff in this adorable anime won my heart over<3 xxxHOLiC: Amazing<3 an anime by my favourite manga-ka, CLAMP<3 can go from mysterious and tense to fluffy and funny in a flash, and it works<3 I love Watanuki and Yuuko-san, and I love how well Douneki and Watanuki-kun get along! (I actually love DoumekixWatanuki... I loves me sum yaois<3<3!) Least favorite: School Days: Turned out to be too boring. The love story just wasn't simulating... wasn't exciting... it didn't make me blush and go 'Baaaaw, that's the cutest thing ever! How romantic!'. =3= Tsubasa Chronicle: I don't not like it, but... the way they left out or changed alot in even just the first few eps really made me mad. I don't mind occasional fillers, and I don't mind some small unnoticeable chamges, but they barely stuck to the way the chapters were in the manga (for the few eps I HAVE seen) and I just stuck with the manga and loved every chappy of it. They made changes with xxxHOLiC, too, but they were good ones. Even slightly better than the manga. xxxHOLiC was done right<3 Clannad After Story: It just isn't as cute or fun or romantic after Nagisa... well... no spoilers. It's a little boring now, but I can't drop it for the sake of knowing how it ends. And that's all I can think of. Other than Naruto. I loved it at first, but the manga has less fillers (anyone else sit through all of the fillers after Sasuke leaves, before Shippuden? Ugh...) The manga just progresses more smoothly without little breaks, and the flashbacks in the manga aren't an annoying half an ep (or chappy) long. |
Quote:
I don't hate the series Haruhi in itself- I love Kyon, I think he's hilarious, and the idea/plot is fine with me. It's just Haruhi, the character, whom I hate, and who prevents me from finishing the series. And it's not really something that a lot of people would like, in my opinion. It's slow, it's boring, but for someone like me who adores all kinds of slice-of-life... Like Working!! I love, even though it has absolutely no connectivity and nothing particularly exciting ever happens. I like it when the world isn't about to end every arc. I have a very very low standard in anime. xD I don't watch enough of it to have high standards, but I know enough to be able to tell when the animation is good or bad. |
Hmm, I'm a little surprised that no one mentioned Seirei no Moribito (Guardian of the Sacred Spirit). I've seen the anime twice now, and I'm planning on watching it again. Not anytime soon though, since I have other business to attend.
But I have little to no complaint about this anime. It's animation is great, the backgrounds are outstanding and the music takes you away. I have both OST's and I love 'm. But what's best of all is the combination of the characters and story. At first it might seem a little dull, a fighter who needs to protect a child. We've all heard that before, no? Yet the way they execute it is fantastic. The characters really carry the story, they are believable. And 26 episodes is exactly the right length for this anime. No fillers, no rushed episodes, no other tiny timing troubles. If I were to rate this anime I'd give it a 9,5/10. :3 Next in line is Macross Frontier. I'm usually not into the space-huge robot fighting stuff, but I really enjoyed this anime... and it even made me go "woah" at some point. The songs are really catchy. :'D But whether you find that a plus point or not is your call. Very good animation and nice soundtrack as well. Gotta love "Innocent Green" and "Michael's Theme" (it actually has another title, but I can't remember it completely) And I like Alto. :B Who is basically the whole reason I started watching this anime. Can't wait to see the movies~ : D Rurouni Kenshin- Tsuiokuhen is another one of those anime that will never bore me. Strong story, decent animation and beautiful soundtrack, which only gets beaten by Seisouhen's. (My username comes from the OST). I like Seisouhen as well, much unlike a lot of Rurouni Kenshin fans. :B Though I heard some very odd things happened with the creation of these OVA's, I still love them. Others that amazed me but that I'm not going to write a review about: -Romeo x Juliet -Saiunkoku Monogatari -Shounen Onmyouji (I should continue reading the translations of the novels :0) -Kuroshitsuji -Sengoku Basara (Lawl! but good story and characters) -Fullmetal Alchemist (First Anime I saw besides Pokémon and Beyblade? :'D I went through the gate to Anime world!) -Fate/Stay Night (gotta watch that anime in one run!) -... I'm gonna wait putting D.Gray-Man in the above list since I'm not that far yet (33), but from what I've seen, I love it. The Manga is on my "to-read" list. Disappointed by: Okay, what anime are on my "dropped list"? Naruto, if a story goes nowhere after 40 episodes... I give up. Death Note. Didn't really disappoint me, just not my piece of cake. Code Geass 2. For some reason I stopped watching it. And I don't stop watching anime without a good reason. >: |
Most Impressed with:
One Piece - I first saw the manga in Shonen Jump. I was a subscriber so, wanting to get my money's worth, I read everything in the "magazine," including One Piece. However, as soon as I saw the poorly dubbed cartoon on TV, I stopped reading. A couple of years later [last summer lol] I was bored. I was caught up with all of my manga so I decided to find an anime to watch for the hell of it. I don't know why I chose the subbed version of One Piece but I did. And oh man, I have been hooked ever since. Although I still prefer to read than watch, One Piece has undoubtedly become my favorite anime/manga. Full Metal Alchemist - I love this anime. I think it may be the only anime that I like more than its manga counterpart. The dubbed version was good. The subbed version was downright amazing. The people giving the voices to the characters did such a great job and it really shows how much of a difference the correct voice overs makes when it comes to how well the anime is as a whole. I cried so much. It was awesome. Disappointments: Naruto - As much as I liked it in the beginning when it first came out, both in manga and anime form, it went downhill so fast it wasn't even funny. Anime wise, what the hell is up with all the flash backs? We just saw this scene happen a week ago, so why are you taking up the time allotted for this episode to show the same thing over again? And then again and again. Annoying much? The fillers were also a constant complaint I kept hearing about. Personally I didn't mind them much to start of with but then it just got to be ridiculous. I like getting to know characters, I really do but I don't want to keep waiting and hoping for the story to finally continue. That's not interesting to me. That's boring. Too sappy, too cliche. It makes me sad because it seemed like such a good story/concept/idea. ><; Bleach - I don't know why but I never got into it for some reason ... Which is weird because I really thought and hoped I would but then .. I didn't? I tried watching it so many times but I either always fell asleep or the "dramatic/sad" parts bored me and made me feel like working out or going to do something else to distract me. When a person tries their best to get into an anime, constantly, and then cannot no matter what .. that my friends is disappointment. I don't even know why! We all have different tastes. ^ ^; .. I'm really sorry if I said anything to offend anyone, like die-hard fans. |
Amazed;
Kimi ni Todoke Tora Dora! Naruto Detective Conan Lovely Complex Disappointment; Sailor moon ;___; Bleach Full moon wo sagashite - I wanted a better ending! D: |
Reading through this thread reminded me of Clannad AS. ;__;
As much as I hate saying this, I have to say, Clannad After Story had one of the most disappointing endings I have ever seen. Everything leading up to the last episode was fantastic. Honestly as gripping and emotional as anime can get. It is a masterpiece - a drama that would make anyone cry tears of sadness and of joy. I just didn't like the way it ended. The last episode was just so out of place. Everything leading up to that point was just so real. The beauty of the anime was in its ability to inflict real emotion. The otherworldly plot twist was just terribly misplaced. It just didn't work. It completely destroyed the mood of the series in a single moment. They really could have done a better job. I do realize it wouldn't have been a happy ending if they excluded the last few scenes. But at least it would have been a good ending. It would have ended leaving a real impression. Things were already headed in such a bad direction that a such an unnatural ending would have completely thrown everything off couse. I really would have preferred a sad ending as opposed to the plot twist they decided to toss in. |
I started watching Naruto from the first episode yesterday. I got all the way to episode 14, and I must say...WOW. I mean just a plain amazing anime. I mean just a very well done anime. Great plot, amazing fights. Oh and unlike many people Naruto is actually my fav. character in the show.

An anime that amazed me was "Beck"
I got really wrapped up in it and watched the whole series in like 2 days! It was awesome and the music was really good too! Just don't watch the dub under any circumstances only watch the subbed version! An anime that thoroughly disappointed me was "Psychic Academy" It had such a cool name and I thought it would be all cool with cool powers and stuff but it was just about some overly sensitive pre-teens and their sucky love triangle of fail!! |
i reaaallyy wanna watch Beck, but i can't seem to find it on the internet and i have no idea where i would find it it real life ndslfkjs :c
it isn't an anime, but the Tsubasa manga became so completely derailed near the end i just want to forget i ever read it :c m-man, it started out fine, but thinking back past even the halfway point of the series just leaves a big question mark ughhh |

Amazed/ Air gear.
Disappointed/ Tekken : The motion picture. |
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Haibane Renmei...by far the best anime I've ever seen. It was so beautiful. The art, tone, characters, and I could go on forever about how good the soundtrack is. It's sad that a lot of people snub it because there's no cute, big chested heroine, no gun fighting scenes, or anything like that...
The story takes time to develop, but once it gets there, it's really amazing. I also love Michiko to Hatchin. Characters and story are unique interesting. I love the art style, too. The show is hilarious and keeps me on the edge of my seat, a very fun and quirky watch. Kuuchuu Buranko: Haven't really watched a lot of it yet, but I can already tell that it's awesome. Di Gi Charat: Okay, not the best anime...but it's one of my guilty pleasures. It's one of the first anime I got into when I was young, so it's special to me. Aoi Bungaku: I watched the No Longer Human portion of it. The character is both pitiable and easily related to. I also liked the style of artwork they used, I think it suited the dark tones of the anime (rather than using, say, a style like CLAMP). Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei: A friend introduced me to this. I thought it was going to be a stupid, fails-to-be-funny anime. Well, I was really impressed. I love the humour they use, the characters, everything. The Not-So-Good: Hyakko: I don't know why I started to watch this, considering I don't like the whole 'School life with cute girls doing quirky stuff' things, like Lucky Star or K-ON, but I guess I wanted somewthing light-hearted and fun. Didn't like it. The story never really got anywhere, the characters were boring and cliche (except for the girl who likes to eat, forgot her name), and the art/animation was really mediocre. School Days: I actually saw the ending of School Days first, which got me interested in it. But watching it from the beginning is a really hard task. Boring, boring, boring. As it progresses, you want to facepalm. There characters act stupidly and deserve the consiquences of their actions. Elfen Lied: Well, I just have a really weird love/hate relationship with the manga Elfen Lied. I felt that it had a lot of potential, but there weere too many things that weren't done right. The anime takes a step even further into the bad catagory. While I can say a few good things about the manga, there is nothing I liked about the anime at all (apart from the fact that I liked its opening song). Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni: This was also recommended to me by a friend. I was really into the first two arcs (Rena's door scene thoroughly creeped me out), but after that it got boring and predictable. Higrashi, like Elfen Lied, tries too hard to be 'scary' and 'intense' by using mindless blood and violence; after you watch a few episodes, though, you get used to it and it fails to be shocking anymore. Once you get over that, there isn't much left: extremely annoying and stupid characters (main guy in particular), friendship speeches (we can do anything as long as we believe in each other!), and bleh art. Persona: Trinity Soul: As a Persona fan, I was a bit disappointed by this. Seemed like an extremely beefed-up shonen version of the games I love. I found it really boring, couldn't make it through the first few episodes. Maybe I should try watching it again. And of course, whatever's popular with the 13 year old boys now (Naruto, Bleach, Inu Yasha, etc). |
i really enjoyed fullmetal alchemist . the story line was wicked and the character fully developed . on the other hand , ghost in a shell really disappointed me . it only took me three episodes for ' z's ' to start slipping out my mouth . i just couldn't grasp the whole robot thing . oh , and ouran high school host club was surprisingly really , really good . |
-Amazed-
Dragon Ball Z- They have some of the best if not the best fight scenes of have seen in anime that I have seen. The story line may be a little dull since it is essentially the same oh no Saiyans Goku save us! Oh no Freiza Goku SSJ time save us! Same thing for about ever Saga expect the Cell Saga since Gohan killed Cell. Rurouni Kenshin- When I same this on Toonami many years ago I just loved the character of Kenshin and how he was so selfless and trying to repent for all the wrongs he has done in the past. Not to mention he is a bad a Samurai and the fight scenes in this are pretty good too. Yu Yu Hakusho- I loved the anime up until the rushed through the Demon World part other then that it was one of the best I have seen. Again it had great fight scenes which was about the Entire Dark Tournament. -Disappointed- Bobobo-bo bo-bobo- If there is a plot there some one please tell me cause it must be beyond me of what the plot consists of. I would have to be payed to watch any more episodes of this. Gundam Seed- This is what Kira should have did what Heero did at 1:15 in Episode 1 that's all I have to say about that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-j4hLXHtf8&feature=related Soul Eater- I really don't have anything negative to say about it, I just couldn't get into the so I suppose. Darker than Black: Ryūsei no Gemini- I don't see the point in making Suo the main character Hei should have remained the main focus not Suo. I mean he loses his ability in like episode 2 or 3. He is still badass but why take away the main characters powers? Also why wasn't Huang in it? I don't know why they only did 12 episodes but oh well it is what it is. I would have liked it a lot more if they continued the story line from season 1 and kept Hei as the main character. |
Animu that disappoint me? Every Digimon season after the third one. Digimon was a substantial part of my childhood, and the fact that all the kiddies nowadays have crap Digimon animu to "enjoy" makes me sad. How will there be young Kaisers in the future if they don't have proper Digimon to be raised on?!
Gunbuster was an OVA series I had heard about for years and years. Two of my very good friends, who I respect a good deal, said it was among their favorite anime and I needed to watch it. One night, one of those friends and I marathoned the whole thing... at first I just thought I wasn't in the mood for some loldeep Gainax mess, but after watching it a second time I just couldn't take it. The tone was all over the place, like Anno didn't even know what kind of anime he was directing. The ending just didn't fit at all. It was just poorly paced, poorly made... ugh. Also, Persona - trinity soul - was hella awful. I... well, there's just not much to be said on the matter. It was just bad. Astounding, since Persona 3 is essentialy the greatest thing to happen to video games since Super Mario Bros. And yeah, Lucky Star comes to mind. It only took one episode to realize how bad it was and I wasn't really "disappointed", but I was sort of looking forward to it. I had heard great things about it on the Internet and from my friends in the Anime Club at college, but... wow, they spent like fifteen minutes talking about the proper way to eat their food. That's... not funny? It practically put me to sleep. People compare it to Seinfeld, which is just so wrong. Just because it's a show about nothing doesn't make it a groundbreaking comedy. |
I see a lot of Bleach and Naruto haters but too me its fun to read others opinions lol. Alright my turn
Amazed Nagaserete Airantou - awesome <3 Soul Eater - omg just pure awesome Tactics - cool and amazing Inuyasha - I'm no romance guy but this anime was pure awesome Blood + - I didn't like it at first but I grew on me Full Metal Alchemist - good story and great charcters Rosario + Vampire - A vampire that's a pretty girl how could I not be amazed Disappointed Eureka 7 - just horrible FLCL - I'm a random guy but like WTF was going in I don't know Paranoia Agent - a guy killling with a baseball bat...how...unentertaining -fake grins- Trinity Blood - um no...that is all Yugioh 5Ds - so hurt by this season -sniffles- One Piece - I just never got into it and it seems boring to be honest Noein - W...T...F... These are just a few from the top of my head but om sure there's more to love and even more to hate xD. |
Princess Tutu amazed me. Just by looking at it I expected it to be crap, but now its one of my favorite series. Its just.. great. Shoujo Magic.
Lucky Star disappointed me. I thought it'd be cute and funny. It was just boring. |
K-ON! amazed me. It's funny, cute and Yui is very very x3~ kawaii! :p
Bleach disappointed me. I just hate it. lol |
Bleach-Well, that's my favorite anime... So I guess I really like everything about it! Well, a lot of it, atleast.
Death Note-I really enjoyed the storyline and artwork. Kuroshitsuji-I loved it, but... I was disappointed when they decided to kill off Ciel and cut off Sebastian's arm. D= The manga is so different from the anime... Katekyo Hitman Reborn-It's a good anime, but it gets a little dull at times... Naruto/Naruto Shippuden-It's okay, but gets a little dull at times... |
Amazed anime:
Noein - the first part or episodes of it are kinda confusing but the way the story goes, the story really gets interesting. If you missed a single episode, you are done and you can't keep up with the story. Disappointed anime: Zoids Fuzors - the Zoids franchise is really cool. One of my favorite series. But this one really disappoints me with poor plot and storyline. The only thing I liked on it is the mecha designs. |

But the dub acting is just diabolical in comparison to the original, the voices are all wrong! But this is the case with most anime dubs. |
