Does anyone here still have working 2nd Gen games?

Fortunately, I have been lucky thus far.

None of my 2nd Gen games have died yet, but as a precaution, I recently purchased a Crystal Version that has a replaced memory battery.

Tox February 23rd, 2010 6:11 AM

All of the games I bought myself still work. That is, Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow (x2), Silver, Crystal. I also have my cousin's Silver. That was dead when I got it though. I bought all my games when they were released too. I've had them this far (some over ten years) and everything's still good.

RivalGator February 23rd, 2010 7:25 AM

Yeah, most of mine work. A couple of them had their internal clock die, but that's about it. My Crystal works like a charm.

Lycaeus February 23rd, 2010 7:26 AM

My Crystal, Red, Blue, and Yellow all still work(:
My Gold and Silver died though :/

donavannj February 23rd, 2010 7:31 AM

My Yellow was actually the first game to go, but my Silver version (only Gen 2 game I own) still works. It is only on it's second full play-through (my first one was reset about halfway through because I couldn't figure out Pryce's gym, and my second one was infected with PokeRus, which was poorly implemented in Gen 2).

Christopher February 23rd, 2010 7:37 AM

All mine still work fine I have all of them by the way started playing Silver again to gear up for soul silver

Kikaito plush February 23rd, 2010 7:50 AM

My silver is dead it died last night..My gold is still working a bit

Legobricks February 23rd, 2010 4:25 PM

As long as one knows how to change the battery (& have the means to do it), the game doesn't necessarily ever die unless one physically damages it.

All my GB/C games (R, B, Y, S, C) are still fine and on original batteries.

DGexe February 23rd, 2010 4:38 PM

Both of my GenI games still work, but Crystal is dead as a doornail (so-to-speak; I don't have the neccessary tools or skills to fix it).

Gold is still up and running, however! :B

Lt_Nite February 23rd, 2010 4:42 PM

Nope my Silver died bout a couple months ago and since I've been meaning to go buy a new one to play before HG/SS. Sad too all that time gone =[

TrinityLimit February 23rd, 2010 4:42 PM

all my games are working well, even my yellow is still alive :D

Usagi-Chan~ February 23rd, 2010 4:51 PM

My Gold, Silver and Crystal versions are all still working~

シルバー February 23rd, 2010 4:53 PM

My Crystal still works.
Red and Japanese Silver died a long time ago.

Cilerba February 23rd, 2010 5:26 PM

Wow, I still have a LOT of working 2nd gen games.
  • Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition
  • Red (x2)
  • Blue
  • Gold (x2)
  • Silver
  • Crystal (x2)

Wow, I pretty much have all of the released Gameboy games ^_^ Lucky me!

Okami Chi February 23rd, 2010 5:41 PM

None of my Pokemon games are dead yet. I used to whip out the 2nd or 1st gen. somtimes for fun, but now with the remakes they are just for collection.

Atlas February 23rd, 2010 6:32 PM

I have two copies of yellow now, one(my perfect pokedex one) has a bad battery, and the other is still working.

My copy of gold still works, but I haven't touched it in ages.

~RNC~ February 23rd, 2010 6:40 PM

I love those games!! I have a couple of copies of each and all of them still work just fine!! :)

Gary, the Magic Fairy February 23rd, 2010 11:43 PM

Crystal worked in early '09/late '08 when I checked.

fishrocker February 26th, 2010 11:11 AM

My Blue, Yellow, and Crystal still work great. My Red was stolen 5 years ago and it worked then. My Silver did die however, about 5 years ago.

Skweetis February 26th, 2010 11:22 AM

I've had all 3 games for a decade and they work fine.

Tudsworth February 26th, 2010 11:49 AM

My Silver and Crystal carts work fine, though the former had to have its battery replaced recently.

GSCyndaquil19 February 28th, 2010 6:23 PM

i dont even have my 1st and 2nd gen games anymore.I remember having a yellow that stopped saving and from what i remmeber i had crystal, gold, and silver, and blue, and they all worked perfectly but i misplaced them after getting sapphire

MegaSlowBro. February 28th, 2010 6:26 PM

I lost my Silver, but my Crystal is still going strong ^_^

pauldan00b March 1st, 2010 6:46 AM

I had a copy of Silver and Crystal from back when they first came out, but I had lost them a few years ago. I got a Crystal Version used about two weeks ago, and it seems to work perfectly fine. I'm unsure as to whether the battery was replaced or not, but it seems to work normally.

Editman March 1st, 2010 7:24 AM

My Gold works, Via the Gameboy, however whenever i play it in, pokemon stadium 2, the data corrupts

rizyq March 1st, 2010 10:09 AM

My Crystal works, but my Gold died a little while ago (Or maybe longer, I lost it and didn't play it.)

But, my Red and Blue work (My Blue has an original internal battery, I dunno about Red.)

I wish I had the tools to fix my Gold, so I could enjoy it again.

Saud-Blaziken March 1st, 2010 11:24 AM

My brother gave me his Pokemon Gold and its still working fine :D

ChrisTom March 1st, 2010 4:24 PM

All of the Gen II games I've had still work luckily!

...

*looks around worriedly*

...

*Goes check Gold game*

...

Yeah, still works. I once was given a free Gen II game and I thought, "Wow! Aren't I lucky that somebody gave me a free Pokemon game!" Then when I realized it wouldn't save, I tricked a kid into giving me his working Pokemon Silver. I feel bad about it to this day, but he was a very gullible person. Here's what the conversation was:

Me: Hey you wanna trade me your Pokemon Silver for my Pokemon Gold?

Him: Why?

Me: Well, uh... Pokemon Gold is better than Silver.

Him: But I like this game.

Me: Uh, well this one is good for cheats!

Him:...

Me:...

Him:... Ok!

Yeah. I am glad that mine still works! Although it'll probably flop anyday now. They say once the time slows down in game, it is a sure sign. Mine is 5 minutes slow so far...

But it should be good for now. Enjoy it while you can!

Brendonwii March 2nd, 2010 1:37 AM

Nope my silver died about 4-5 years ago and my crystal died 2 years ago.

Calder March 2nd, 2010 2:16 AM

yes my Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal all work fine

Pachireecko March 2nd, 2010 9:02 AM

Nope, sadly all of mine are dead. :(

Kimicatdemon March 2nd, 2010 9:48 AM

My crystal is still workin. ono

pokefangunner March 2nd, 2010 10:24 AM

MY Gold, Silver, and Crystal work flawlessly:)

Damiano March 2nd, 2010 10:47 AM

Yellow and Crystal still work but Gold and Silver both died years ago.

11wildy March 2nd, 2010 11:31 AM

Crystal is still owkring and I hope it will till HG/SS will be released here!

~Hot n' Cold~ March 3rd, 2010 3:06 PM

I personally never owned Gen 2 games...
Emulators FTW.
However my friend Sun owns 8 Gen 2 games - 3 Crystals and 5 Golds.

Tommmy March 4th, 2010 11:01 AM

Only started playing fairly recently. Bought yellow, red and silver recently. All of them worked but I changed the battery in all of them anyways just in case of losing saves in the future, also changed the battery in my mates gold.

Champloo March 4th, 2010 3:37 PM

My only Gold Version Died out =( One of my Silver Versions died as well.

It's funny though since at the time I didn't know they could "Die" so I was infuriated when it just wouldn't save and blamed my little sister for touching my stuff.

I then later discovered why it wasn't working anymore......=/

I apologized!!!! Lol but ya My 3 Crystal Versions still work fine and my last Silver works fine as well. I've been meaning to get a replacement battery for my Gold and Silver versions. I just haven't gotten around to it =(

Wasp March 4th, 2010 4:50 PM

Hm. Well..

I originally bought a Pokemon Silver version, due to the fact that I started with FR/LG, but as I turned on my GameBoy, I found out the game was already dead.

So...no working I or II gen games...:(

Rain March 4th, 2010 4:58 PM

I still have my Gold and Crystal; both of them still work. =)

Drapionmaster March 4th, 2010 8:18 PM

I still have crystal, its actually the only game I play. And red I had until last summer when I gave it away.

AGMB March 6th, 2010 1:59 PM

gold and silver still work like a charm, even blue still works

Hallylicious March 6th, 2010 5:57 PM

My crystal died. But i replaced the internal battery and now it works like a charm :)

Imperator161 March 6th, 2010 6:05 PM

My Gold and Crystal games died several years ago, but my Silver still works. I've been surprised by how much of a range there has been on the lifespans of the internal batteries.

560cool. March 7th, 2010 3:00 AM

I recently got a Crystal and that fake GoldSilver 2in1 .
None work . Through my dissapointment , I can't use my GBA , so for challenges , I'll have ROMs ...

Lord Varion March 7th, 2010 3:11 AM

Yep myne still work

no of them r goin to die
XD

560cool. March 7th, 2010 7:19 AM

Also , in case of which your battery is dead , check this tutorial :

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-replace-the-battery-in-a-pokemon-goldsilve/

I need to buy a battery . Then , I'll be ready to play Crystal from my GBA !!

Zenox9120 March 7th, 2010 7:49 AM

I still have my Crystal game from when I was like 7, man that game was great, I loved it. I wish I just knew where it was :P

xDangerous March 7th, 2010 8:48 AM

I still have a working Gold and Crystal. I need to find me a working Silver...

Pokéball March 7th, 2010 9:19 AM

My Pokemon Crystal still works. I just don't play it often.

Mirokarosu March 7th, 2010 10:00 AM

Both my Pokemon Crystal and my Pokemon Silver still work. I think the day they stop working I'll bawl my eyes out.

I also have Pokemon Gold, but weather or not it's still working I wouldn't know as it's somewhere in the house.

GengarNightmare March 8th, 2010 2:56 PM

Last I checked (maybe a few months ago?) all of my 2nd gen games still work, even my R/B/Y games. They've probably survived because I only played them during the time they were current, meaning as soon as 3rd gen came out, I hardly played them anymore. Besides, I've heard you can just take it apart and change the little watch battery inside if it stops working.

BridZworld March 9th, 2010 2:56 PM

Almot all of the Pokemon games I have had still work, except for Crystal, that was my favourite too!

Shiny Shaymin March 10th, 2010 7:44 AM

I have a working Crystal and Red Version, my Gold doesn't work anymore.

sCam March 10th, 2010 10:02 AM

I still have silver, but it dosent save anymore. so considered it dusty v_v

TheGearofWar March 10th, 2010 11:18 AM

Yep, I actually change internal batteries for a hobby, I like doing handy crafty stuff when I can. Right now my Gold Version cartridge is just being used as storage for a crap battery and some plastic seals though XD

Sudeki March 10th, 2010 12:29 PM

Yup, Still got my Gold/Silvers working :P, Although I havn't been actually able to use them for a few months now.

gkenzx March 10th, 2010 1:31 PM

my gold and silver both work, my crystals battery is fried however...so sad...crystal was the best :)

spike6958 March 10th, 2010 5:40 PM

None of mine work, but I kept my Crystal even though it dosn't, It had all 251 Pokemon, including legit Celebi and Mew from Japan, good times.

Team Rocket's Raichu March 10th, 2010 5:55 PM

Silver: Won't load.
Gold: Will load. Graphics glitched. Easily freezes. Won't save.
Crystal: Will load. Graphics perfect, except for map. Never freezes. Will save. Won't load save game.

I have a rom of Crystal on my r4, so I can still play it, and save. :)

Red1530 March 10th, 2010 6:54 PM

My brother's Silver version is still working fine.

Cresselia March 13th, 2010 3:31 PM

My Silver Version died. D; Fortunately, my Red and Blue still work!

Chloroform Girl March 15th, 2010 7:12 PM

I have 1 silver and 1 gold, and my brother has Gold too

Lord_Sesshoumaru March 17th, 2010 6:45 AM

I don't know if my Crystal Version still works(I lost it about a few years ago) but my Red Blue and Yellow versions still works..

Soul.//Silver March 18th, 2010 6:23 PM

Up until 3 days ago, my Crystal was still working...and so, after 9 years the battery finally died. Last time I checked, my Silver was still working *hides in a corner and bawls*

Astro*Zombies March 19th, 2010 12:16 PM

My silver version still works.

fluffyfishy March 19th, 2010 2:21 PM

I have Gold and Crystal and they both still work! It's pretty fun to play whenever you are bored.

Chrisbob78 March 19th, 2010 4:52 PM

My Silver and Red work. My Blue had a Mew but it is dead.

curiousnathan March 19th, 2010 5:04 PM

All of my games still work. My Crystal, Gold and Silver all work perefectly considering that I have had the for a couple of eyars now. I think 5.. or 6.

Dark_Espeon March 20th, 2010 4:44 AM

Same here, all of my games work, even Red/Blue (though they tend to be glitchy). When you consider how many hours of gameplay they must have racked up since, it's pretty incredible.

GlitchCity March 20th, 2010 6:12 AM

My Gold version died many years ago because I left it in my pocket and it was put in the washer. But the good news is that my Crystal version still works.

Lucariotoes March 20th, 2010 6:40 AM

Just bought one. Silver, to be exact, since I cannot afford SoulSilver.

.hack March 20th, 2010 6:51 AM

2nd Gen: I have 3 Silver games and one Crystal and none of them have died on me. But for some reason one of the Silvers corrupted when I took it out of my Gba and put it in my Gbc. I noticed that it corrupts every time the console played on changes however it won't corrupt using the same one so it now has a perma spot in my gbc. The other two silvers are fine to my knowledge. I played one recently and it was working fine. The other one was working last time I played it but that was a while ago, infact I'll check on it soon. Crystal is great, when my Red was dying due to MissingNo. I traded a load of pokes over to Crystal (Not MissingNo. obvly) and I figured it'd most likely corrupt having loads of pokes from a glitched game but it didn't and still works to this day very well. I was given a Pokemon Gold for free which broke within a month of getting it.

All my first gen games work fine as long as I refrain from purposefully glitching them.

BHwolfgang March 20th, 2010 6:57 AM

No, all of them either had a corrupted save file or just died on its own. It was a shame, though. I put so much work into each of those games...

... Well, at least I have SoulSilver to satisfy me.

Tsutarja March 20th, 2010 6:17 PM

I have all GBC games (with 2 Golds and 2 Yellows). All but one of my Yellows work, and I can't get my Red to read without having it pressured (holding onto it). And I lost the Yellow that works. >_>

ShinyBill March 27th, 2010 5:29 AM

My Yellow has the pictures all messed up (instead of sprites, there are black squares qith red stripes) and my Silver is like new, if we don't look at the cartridge...

Sydian March 27th, 2010 8:39 AM

My RBY and GSC all work. The day Silver and Red die, I will explode into a million tears, though. So everyone must comfort me.

Zakki-C-Mo March 27th, 2010 6:27 PM

i ha about 400 hours in on gold, then put it in my gameboy pocket (i have all the other gameboys and such, but i like the old school vibe), and play it on there, but then the next time i turned it on, my gold reset :[[[, same thing happened to red, exept i had 250 hours in on it :(((

Hmm, that doesn't sound good. I'm currently playing Gold on a GBA and ever since I got it, I'ts never stopped working. I'm getting a GBC from a friend for oldschoolness as well, if I use his will it kill my game??

Also, does anyone know why some games seem to last longer than most? I hadn't played my gold in years and when I just started it up again it wanted me to re-enter the time because it had forgotten, would that somehow be relevant to why my game hasn't died yet?

~Gary~ March 30th, 2010 1:48 AM

my 2nd gen games works

i rarely do play it cuz i got my pokemon soul silver

GBC wont kill it, i use mine all the time bc i just love the feel of it, just i dont reccomend GB Pocket

Limey-chan April 2nd, 2010 6:09 AM

I do :)

It's a mystery how my Gold even still works, seeing as how it's 10 years old. I thought the internal battery would have died by now, but it hasn't. Not that i'm complaining.

Interesting, my silver and red version are my two great versions too. If they die on me I might just do that too. My gold has already died on me so I'm a bit scared. I have all the 2nd and 1st gen games besides blue. I still don't know why I don't have one.

Alice April 2nd, 2010 10:23 PM

The only ones that have died on me are Crystal, and the tcg game. They work, but won't save anymore.

Eurydice April 2nd, 2010 10:41 PM

all mine work except a copy of yellow (which works when it wants to) and a copy of silver. but i have another copy of both of them so i dont really mind at the moment.

uchiha sasuke April 3rd, 2010 2:10 AM

I used to have blue, red, gold + silver.

I gave blue and gold to my cousin some years ago.
Anyway, the other two, silver and red are still working.
By the way, one annoying thing that happened to my gold during its prime time was that a coloured ho-oh appeared instead of the normal one when you switch on the game and my saved game was lost. I know that it's offtopic, but it's the only bad I can remember from that time. The rest were amazing, although I couldn't even fully understand english and I didn't have internet to help me!

mewbaby April 3rd, 2010 2:39 AM

i still have all the old games
blue, red, yellow, gold, silver and crystal - in fact got all of the versions but not green as it never came out in europe :(

SpawnHyuuga April 3rd, 2010 4:47 PM

My Silver I got from my former best friend's sister works just fine up to this point, of course I wanted to beat my sister after she deleted my former save file! Oh well, that's what Brainboys are for. I'm ashamed my best Pokemon friend used to be Typhlosion but then I abandoned it. :(

RyeChoo April 4th, 2010 1:03 PM

I'm like the luckiest person in the world. Yellow still works and so does Silver and Crystal. I even have the TCG one.

Underoos April 4th, 2010 1:18 PM

Let's see...Gold and Silver work. I never bought Crystal/traded to my friends XD Red and Yellow work. I don't have Blue either, because I traded that to a friend for Red because I wanted the Charizard on the front of my game lmao.

SethOmega April 4th, 2010 2:17 PM

I actually have both a Gold and Silver. I'm trying to sell them though.

DXrobots April 4th, 2010 2:45 PM

I've got all the games except the 4th generation soul silver and emerald and they all work:

http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/pp165/TheSkyisBlueFTW/IMG_0008.jpg

Hantsuki April 4th, 2010 3:05 PM

Yes. I still have my first game, Pokemon Silver, along with the box that I bought it in. Same goes for Gold and Crystal as well as the other games that succeeded and preceded them. However, I don't have the 4th generation games nor the remakes of the Johto region for I do not own a DS. The only handheld I own is a Game Boy Advance (two actually) which I can play all the other games on.

ThatTrainer April 4th, 2010 3:16 PM

yes.
I never played them much after i beat them .

kevcrash April 4th, 2010 7:18 PM

My Yellow and Crystal are still perfectly intact (:

Fire-Red April 6th, 2010 3:58 AM

The only one that died was silver (got dusty :( ) But my blue, red, yellow, gold and Crystal still work and I still play them.

Meadow April 17th, 2010 5:12 AM

I have Silver, but it can't save though.

TheBlackRose April 17th, 2010 11:26 AM

I have a working copy of each of the 2nd Gen (It's the only Gen I have a complete collection for). I have two Silver copies because I left my Gameboy and Silver outside on accident T_T -- Gameboy suffered so casualties oddly. So I have all three and a saveless Silver.

R.I.P. Good Game.

seanthelawn April 18th, 2010 3:04 AM

My Red, Blue and Yellow still work. My Gold and Silver batteries died, but I changed them and they work fine. Crystal's still running on the original battery.

Code April 18th, 2010 3:08 AM

They all work. ^_^
Cept for that crummy chinese pirated one, though....
