Fairy Tail

So, has anyone seen this series? I've just started to watch it (currently on episode three) and I have to say, it's awesome. It's just what I've been looking for - light hearted, nice art, entrancing story line, so far at least. I can't wait to watch it more.

..oh, and share your feelings for this series if you want - your first impressions and your overall rating (if you've finished.)

/I came running as soon as I saw this

The manga is waaaaaaay better than the anime, but if you ask me, the anime has the best soundtrack ever. It's got a good cast, too (Simon (Gurren Lagann)'s VA voicing Natsu, Haruhi (Haruhi Suzumiya)'s VA voicing Lucy, Tomoya (Clannad)'s VA voicing Gray...).

And while I do admit the art style is similar to that of One Piece's, I honestly don't think Mashima was going for that. But oh well, if it attracts One Piece fans... XD

/I just looked into it because I was bored

Watch me totally kill this thread because of my addiction with the series.

I have never, and will never get into this series. I'm usually not particularly picky when it comes to art style, but the similar style between this and One Piece is just the one art style that will forever turn me off from watching / reading something. It's just so... ick.

Oddly enough, I never even gave One Piece a chance because of it's art style, but I never associated FT's art style with OP's until it was brought to my attention not too long ago. I associate FT more with Rave Master. Anyways, this is actually one of four manga that I religiously keep up with. The plot isn't bad, and the characters are pretty interesting when you learn all their quirks. There's a nice balance of comedy and action which I find essential in most manga if I want to remain interested.

Same here. XD; I only realized the similarity to One Piece after taking several looks - it looks a lot more like Rave Master than anything.

Eucliffe February 27th, 2010 4:38 AM

Actually...

Despite me saying that the style was similar to that of OP's earlier, I never noticed it either until I noticed it brought up (plus, one time in DLTMSA I had my friend irl find me a bunch of Natsu fanart, and one of them had him with Luffy, and another one was a comic with him and Luffy's fire-using brother, I think?).

In fact, because it was by the guy who did Groove Adventure Rave was the reason why I decided to look into it. Boredom was just the other factor.

...

I need to thank my friend irl for getting me into Rave ._.

That is the same with me. I never would have noticed the similarites if you didn't mention it. :P

That's what I said about One Piece way back when. But then I watched it and realized that my love for the storyline cancelled out and greatly exceeded my hate for the art. Now I barely notice the art, which is possibly why my previous statement is as such. XD

I started watching Fairy Tail in November, and immediately put it on this short little list of anime which I watch weekly. And I've been keeping up with the manga, reading a few chapters ahead of the anime storyline, until about last week, when I fastforwarded about thirty chapters. XD

There is great character development, a good plot, and they even work in the humour effectively. It's like One Piece on soil! ^_^

Misheard Whisper February 27th, 2010 4:53 AM

Yeah, I don't like One Piece mainly because of the art style, but I don't think Fairy Tail's that much like it.

aaaand now I'm picturing Natsu with Luffy's voice. Grr.

Yeah, just started reading the manga not long ago, and it's great. I've already found my OTP for the series, too - Gray/Erza. Hehe.

Ochigi February 27th, 2010 5:21 AM

What got me hooked onto this series was the season 1 theme song. Snow
fairy.

But I got unhooked right as soon as I saw the first few episodes.

-.-

I didn't find it interesting that much

You really shouldn't judge like that. You'd probably like the next arc coming up(Phantom Arc). But at the moment it's just filler.

You might enjoy the manga. It's been interesting as of late.

Ochigi February 27th, 2010 6:03 AM

I read the manga of it.

My friend let me borrow Volume 1.

Misheard Whisper February 27th, 2010 6:49 AM

. . . literally came here straight from reading the manga. It's great, hehe. I usually like manga better than their anime counterparts, as a general rule. Still need to watch Fairy Tail anime, tho.

Serene Grace February 27th, 2010 8:45 AM

I got a taste of the series by reading the manga. Then I'm currently through the process of watching the animé series. Once I'm finished with that, I'm going back and reading through the manga and, hopefully, keeping up with it.

Eucliffe February 27th, 2010 9:09 AM

I play a Wendy in LJ (although she isn't in an RP...yet), so I need to keep rereading the Oracion Seis (can't be bothered to remember where the accent in "Oracion" goes >.>) and now the Edras arc in order to remember what she's like, what happened/is happening, and perhaps find more userpics for her.

The Phantom Lord arc is definitely one of the best. I hope to get up at 5:00 AM each Monday morning while I'm away so I can watch it live on TV Tokyo (yes, I stream it, and no, I do not understand a single thing they're saying, but that's why I watched it subbed later on). And, of course, this also includes the filler that'll be showing soon.
