lukomon Pokédex released for iPhone/iPod Touch! Android coming soon!
* lukomon Pokédex is available on the App Store!
* Check out lukomon on our new website Finally, the long awaited MASSIVE update has arrived! We have worked hundreds of hours on this and we really hope you'll like it! We basically rewrote and redesigned the complete application. Some highlights that are introduced in this update: * The most requested feature, an EV/IV stats calculator has finally made it into the app! With this useful feature you can calculate your Pokémon's IV status points. Now you can train the ultimate Pokémon! An EV tracker is already in designing phase and will be released shortly after this update. We had wanted the tracker in this update but it’s a bit complicated and we want it to be perfect before we release it. * We have added full Retina Display support! This means that lukomon Pokédex will look better than ever on Apple's newest iDevices! Multitasking is also supported now so you can continue where you left behind after you've closed lukomon. * In lukomon Pokédex v1.0 some data was missing, but we have added all the missing pieces in v1.1! You can now look-up the Pokémon's Base Stats, weaknesses/resistances and habitats. Our artist has drawn some really nice art for these habitats, we hope you'll like it! We have also added support for GBA generation games. * Lots of improvements, to name a few: an improved layout, a new database system (there is more data with less errors), improved management of collections and improved browsing by items (by Item Pocket, just like in the games). Thanks to our new database sytem lukomon is much faster to browse for a better experience. Please note that since we are using a whole new database, your favorites and collections from previous lukomon versions won’t be brought over to lukomon v1.1. We’re sorry about this, this won’t happen again. http://static.kombostudio.nl/img/screenshots/lukomon_pokedex/1.png http://static.kombostudio.nl/img/screenshots/lukomon_pokedex/3.png http://static.kombostudio.nl/img/screenshots/lukomon_pokedex/5.png http://static.kombostudio.nl/img/screenshots/lukomon_pokedex/6.png http://static.kombostudio.nl/img/screenshots/lukomon_pokedex/7.png http://static.kombostudio.nl/img/screenshots/lukomon_pokedex/9.png |
I have some nifty ideas, specially useful for those who like competitive battling:
- The stats of each poke (for 1st gen and the remaining) - Smogon sets - The EVs you get from fighting said pokes - Information regarding natures - Information regarding abilities - Information regarding the speed at which each pokemon evolves (Exp necessary to level up) - A "Berry-Dex" (what each berry does and where/how you can get it) - A "Move-Dex" (Type, power, side-effect, PP and accuracy of each move) - A battle-damage calculator - The % of appearance of each poke per local, and also its % male/female ratio - Browse by local - Browse by stat - The quotes from each pokedex in each original Pokémon game - The normal and shiny sprites in every game - A team builder like the one in Marriland.com: it might not be awesome for realistic building, but it does give some good type-wise feedback. Well, you can get almost every piece of info I suggested on serebii.net and smogon .com But yeah, that'd pretty much make that the best Pokédex ever, having everything you ever needed for your Pokémon needs! |
Thanks for the ideas!
We understand that stats like base stats, powers, EVs are important to serious competitive trainers so we are going to incorporate those soon! At this point you can view abilitie information, as well as lookup Pokémon by ability. Nature is something we haven't thought of yet. Will note that. We have much information on items. Also specific information on certain types of items. For example for berries you can view the min/max amount of berries on a plant, the growth times and more. With each Pokémon you can also view it's moves (By lvl, tutor, TM/HM). Ratio's are included ;) We also have descriptions of Pokémon from the last two generations. About the Smogon sets and team builders: I think that would make a good app on their own! Thanks for your input! We'd love to hear more from you guys :-) p.s. added a screenshot in the first post! |
Looks really useful, actually. One question though, will the app be free or not?
|
What a brilliant idea, pity I don't have an iPhone or Droid. Good work.
|
I love the screenshot. Looks pretty sleek!
What about adding a link on each page for the respective pokemon's page on Serebii and Smogon? If I get any more ideas, I'll tell you guys. |
Serene Grace: We're still thinking about that. There will be a paid app and there might be an ad-supported or more likely a feature-stripped free version.
Blues003: Oh that would be a quick fix! I guess I'll have a word with the Serebii and Smogon admins :-) Btw layout is a work-in-progress as well, will look even better soon ;-) Thanks for your input! We'd certainly love to hear more :) |
Well, now that I think about it, I don't think there's anything on serebii that you don't have already, except possibly Sort by type and by stat.
Oh, if you can, making a bar-graphic for stats would be much more clear, visually speaking. I'm talking about a diagram such as the ones at Smogon, in which by the colour of the bars themselves, you can get a good idea regarding each stat already. Well, I don't know what has been implemented so far ("and much more" doesn't really tell me anything xD), so I guess that these ideas and the ones I posted a bit ago are the ones I have for now. |
What's an egg cycle? :P
This looks really useful actually!! I'm excited!! How about maps of all the regions. Overhead views where you can click on routes and cities to find out if anything special happens there. Like say, National Park: Host the Bug Catching Contest every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Also the ability to zoom in to focus on certain routes. And maybe little icons displaying the presence of items/pokemon/trainers. etc. Might be alot but it'd sure be awesome. Either way what you alread have looks excellent!! |
Blues003: You can browse Pokémon By Type and Egg Group.
Bar graphs are really awesome and we've concepted a lot about the use of them in growth times for berries, base stats etc. But unfortunately those won't make it in the initial release. They will come later though! Waffle-San: :P Here we go: egg Cycles are steps to hatch divided by 255. This makes for a good to read value on par with the happiness of a Pokémon (which also changes on 255). The tip on events is really useful, thanks! We will think about a way to implement that :) About the maps: same issue as the bar charts. Not enough time unfortunately to incorporate them in the initial release. Those will follow in an update :) This is how it looks now. Functional, but the addition of a map would surely be nice :-) http://www.lukomon.com/images/lukodev1303.png |
On the map, I think you could display the route, and use colored dots for trainers and items like with the PokeNav in R/S/E
|
So... it's like Bulbapedia's Pokedex on the iPhone? That = Epic win.
|
I would buy an iphone just to get this app.
You have my respect, oh mighty information gatherer |
Wow, I'm so glad that I'm getting an iPod touch next week. These updates look really nice - the design looks amazingly spiffing, too.
|
Will you show the wild Pokemon held item game difference?
|
Is there a release date on this yet? :P It's very awesome and I'm looking forward to having it on my Droid. Definitely be a bit easier than having to always check Serebii for certain things.
|
What about going egg cycles: 12 (3,060 steps). I know the step count can vary with some thing, but it's still helpful.
|
Thanks for the kind words and suggestions! This is really motivating ^_^
coolcatkim22: There is a lot of data specific to certain games. At the moment you can switch games with a button bar (like on the locations screenshot) but we're working on a function to set the profile information specific to a game. JP: We will publish a roadmap but version 1.0 will be released 'very soon'! We're working hard on entering data and polishing. We want to have it available ASAP since Heart Gold and Soul Silver are being released. Myles: Thanks for the suggestion! I will change that right now :) You guys are great. We will probably be distributing some promotional codes here ;-) |
Kombo, sorting by type would be very nice indeed. Sometimes I just think I need a pokemon of a certain type for my team, so I go to serebii, click on said type, and I immedeatly get a list with all the pokemon of that type. That way, I am sure I did not forget any potential member :P
Also, what about something that informs which version certain pokemons are exclusives of? |
Okay something I realised I would LOVE to have. An IV calculator. I know there's no real set way of calculating IV's and a pokemon usually has to be at least level 20-25 to calculate accurately but a handheld IV calculator would just be positively amazing.
|
I think a special promotional code just for me should be made.
All in all, a very professional looking app you've got there. I would actually buy it. |
Blues003: At the moment you can view a Pokémon's location and if it only got a location in a specific game, that means it's exclusive to that game :-)
OK we decided on a 'tools'-section within the app which could contains tools like strengths/weaknesses matrix, IV calculator and stuff like that. That's something that you will see in an update. Right now we're focussing on just being there for Heart Gold and Soul Silver players. *entering data*, *entering data* |
For the location feature I hope if you can't get that pokemon in that game, i hope it says what game it has to be transferred from.
When will this thing be released anyway? |
I'm going to buy it, just for the sake of buying it.
|
Hey guys!
Sorry, have been away for a while.. we have been working very, very hard on lukomon. At the moment we're doing testing, inserting the latest data into our database (some Pokémon and berries), polishing up the interface and fixing some last bugs.. We implemented a 'game switcher' which let you switch games easily and updates game-specific info. I added some screenshots to the first post ;-) We hope to submit it next monday! I will post a new description soon, which highlights all features. |
Quote:
|
Hey KranuimRevolvos: we will try to submit it next monday, which is 29-03-2010 :-)
It will indeed take some days before it will show up in the App Store. We will use those days to do some Android specific fixes. |
So the Android version won't be released on the same date? :( :P
|
Quote:
I updated the first post with a new description. We hope you like it :-) |
OH-MY-GOD *faints*. That looks so friggin' awesome! Day one buy for me! :)
|
Wouldn't you be breaking copyright laws? Couldn't Nintendo/Gamefreak/Creatures inc. sue you to poverty? Plus, you could get this info for free on the internet.
|
Quote:
And of course you could search for this info, but the sites i know all have dull design. Plus you have to be near a computer. When i'm playing pokemon (usually on the sofa downstairs) and i need help, I wouldn't walk upstairs to my computer. And, hopefully, thanks to this app, I can just use this app to search info I need while playing. It's like a portable pokédex, isn't that wonderful? |
I have a cool suggestion: You should have a "welcome screen" type of the thing that shows what a pokedex looks like closed, then you have to tap to open it or flick the iphone to open it using the accelerometer. I think this would add to the whole "omg handheld pokedex" effect. Just my suggestion ;D
Unless of course it would be gimmicky, then don't do it :D |
Omg, Im getting and ipod touch in the coming week (keeps getting delayed, had to buy Beyonce Heat) and this would really satisfy me that I can bring Pokemon with in such a manner. Looks good so far.
|
I'm a complete cheapskate so Ill be getting free version I'm afraid.
|
Oh could you PLEASE add the chance you will find the pokemon in the area(s) it is found in, and at what levels too? PLEASEEEEEE I'd pay $10 for this featureee
|
Hey guys, thanks for the reactions :-)
Shuckleman: We did research to make sure there won't be any copyright issues. Thanks Pokafreak :-) That's nice to hear. KraniumRevolvos: Thanks for the cool suggestion! And what exactly do you mean by adding chance to find pokemon in the area's? You can view which Pokémon you can catch in specific area's. Also Pokémon have a catch rate. |
Haha okay what I meant was, in specific routes etc, some pokemon are easier to catch than in other routes.
For example Zubat has a 40% chance of appearing on route 33 at night, at levels 4, 6 and 8, and has a 30% chance of appearing on route 3 at night, at level 5. If that's not too much to ask D: And if the app didnt have these features, i would still buy it anyways, but itd be really awesome if it did. I got that info about Zubat from marriland, credit goes to him for the info. |
Copyright issues
Quote:
|
Has the app been submitted to the appstore yet? :O
|
Shuckleman, they already said that they aren't breaking any copyrights. Besides, there are already several other Pokédex apps in the App Store; how would you explain that?
|
Yay
I'm really looking forward to app for the Android. That way I won't have to connect to the laggy serebii. After it's published, I'll be sure to toss out feedback and new ideas.

Hey Kombo, when are you planning to release your app? I'm really looking forward to it :) |
Hey!
Kranium: wow I didn't knew there was such a detailed breakdown on Pokémon locations! We do support daytime locations but have not added daytime-specific catch rates and levels. Those are easy to add in an update. Thanks ;-) About the copyright: there is absolutely no problem in releasing an app as reference to their work. Pokafreak and the others: I'm very sorry to report that we have been delayed for a couple of days. We're done designing and programming but we're still missing some data. We hired to two people to work on our database and finish the last bits. We still hope to submit it this week. Stay tuned. I personally apologize. I underestimated the amount of work. Even though we've been entering data for the complete past three weeks, we're still missing some pokemon and linkage between pokemon/items and moves and locations. We will keep trying our hardest to finish lukomon! |
Don't forget location specific rates and levels too! :D
Sorry to hear that it will be delayed, but stuff happens, and I'd rather wait and have it be a really good app, then have it released early half-finished. |
This app looks really promising, although I'm not much of a Generation IV guy. Will there ever be an update/app in the future that would have all the information for the first 3 generations? I would buy that in a heartbeat if you made it!
|
At the moment we focus on the Nintendo DS series (Generation IV) but we will most definitely add support for generation III in the future. Not sure about earlier generations though! But we will take your wishes in consideration ;-)
And ofcourse you can always use non-game specific information (Locations), moves almost always apply to earlier generations as well. |
Well, too bad the app has been delayed. But no worries, since it'll improve the app, I won't whine. :) Hopefully you'll be able to submit it asap.
|
As I'm typing this from my iPod touch, I can't wait for this to be added. Hopefully it's available in the uk store too.
|
It will definitely be available in the UK. We try to make it available to as many people in as many countries possible. We might add localization in the future too.
I can confirm that we will support daytime and location specific levels and rates for Pokémon. I think that'll certainly come in handy :-) We won't support locations 'while radio off' or 'during a swarm' right now though. Today I tried to add those specific locations to Caterpie and that took me nearly 20 minutes! Those locations aren't that important I think but they will come in a future version. I will post more screenshots or a video soon in this thread so stay tuned ;-) |
I'm really happy to hear that Kombo, and it's great that you listen to your audience!
It is kind of sad to hear there won't be swarm and radio information, but that would be icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned, as I'm already pumped for the release of this anyway. |
Awesome! Haha, I really can't wait. I have a lot of moments when playing Pokémon like: 'I wish I had a Pokédex!.

Some suggested features that will make it in the initial release: location specific levels and rates, abilities, splash screen.
Features that will be implemented in the next update or later: Links to external sites (bulbapedia, smogon, etc), Event calendar, Team builder, Natures and EV stats / IV calculator. And a lot more features which were inspired by talking with you all :-) Meanwhile we're still working on completing our database and improving our texts. We've also improved our layout to be more good-looking and usable, screenshots will be posted later today ;-) |
Cool! Can't wait to see the 'improved' design :)
|
You could add brief entries of Zorua and Zorroark of course leaving most fields blank but it's original since no other Dex app's have 'em in there and you could just add the information to the fields via updates as the information is leaked.
|
.Hack: I think we will add them as soon as there is more information available :-)
Here's a sneek peak at the improved design which will be fully implemented tomorrow morning :-D (dummy data in there for testing) http://www.lukomon.com/images/lukodev0504.png We want to release lukomon Pokédex ASAP. Just a bit more database work! |
oh my god. That looks soooo freaking good, even better than the first design. I don't have more words... just plain awesome.
One question, that evolution screen is like a pop-up? (just like push-notifications) |
*brings out his £25 iTunes card*
I got this just for you. Don't dissapoint. (: |
Hey!
The evolution screen is similiar to a popup notification on the iPhone, though we'd like to call it a 'Modal window' ;-) We're very excited as we're almost ready to release lukomon :-) |
Woah this is gunna be awesome 2 bad im not getting a ipod touch for a while until i rack up 186 $
|
This looks really great.. looking forward to it. Thanks for being so open to the community during the whole process :)
|
It is official. I am going to buy an Ipod for this thing.
XD |
I just recently got the Android version and it's definitely awesome. Great work on it. =)

CANNOT WAIT.
I really want a pokedex that actually works for my ipod. |

In that case, really looking forward to this one. XD |

We were experiencing some problems with our database since there are over 9000 texts in there. This was causing horrible slowdown on newer Pokémon (like a Slowpoke in slowmotion). We've rewritten and optimized most of our code as we implemented the new design but it was still too slow (it evolved into Slowbro). That's why we came up with a solution: generate flat-files from our server which contain all information we need. This works pretty well and is fast :-) We're still implementing this method for some of our other data (like items) and this shouldn't take long anymore. Sorry for the delay!
We're working as hard as we can, haven't slept normal for a week and I have only played Heart Gold for 3 hours since the release! ;-( |
I have an iPhone and I'm really excited for this =] Hopefully it's not too expensive!
|
Thanks for all the positive replies!
lukomon Pokédex will be introduced at a reduced introduction price. You're the first to know ;-) Oh and we will be releasing some promo codes in here, since you rock :) |
How much will the app to be?
After reading through the whole thread, I have some other questions. Quote:
Quote:
Quote:
Just curious; not wanting to sound doubting. I personally find this amazing as I'm getting an iPod Touch for my birthday and my heart rate went up becasue of excitement of this app! |
deku, this is what Kombo Studio said:
Quote:
Also, promo codes are something like (if I remember it correctly) codes you can use in iTunes to download a certain app for free. Just like gift cards for example. OT; cool Kombo~! Hope I can snag a promo code. If not, don't worry, I'll definitely buy the app when it releases. :) |
I'd get that app on my ipod, just how much will it cost? 1.19? 2.49? or 3.99?
|
Hey Deku:
Pokafreak is right, that's just dummy data in there. Don't worry :) Developers can request promotional codes for their apps. These promo codes allow customers to download the app for free. This is mainly used for marketing (given to blogs, sites etc for reviews). We're still thinking about the pricing and as I said we will introduce lukomon for a reduced introduction price. I can't tell you that exact price yet, unfortunately. |
Quote:
Anyways, I should be getting an iPhone for my birthday (early too, I think), and this will be one of the first apps I get! It looks very nice and extremely convienent. How long do the promo codes last? |
Quote:
|
deku: Promotional codes last for 4 weeks.
It's true that we've put a lot of time and effort into the creation of lukomon but I don't think we'll ever sell the app for as much as $3.99. That's more than I'd personally like to pay for an app. We will announce the release and price at the start of the next week. Migrating from our old database-driven system has increased the filesize a bit. But it will will most likely not even exceed 15MB. That's not much for an app is it? Screenshot! http://lukomon.com/images/lukodev0904.png Our gameswitcher will be visible if you scroll down as you are at the top of the page (similiar to the Music app on the iPhone). Here you can trigger game specific locations. Press the move to see it's profile. Once you're there you can see every Pokémon that can learn that this move :-) We're still working on the last bits of our database and making things like this look nice: http://lukomon.com/images/lukodev0904_01.png |
I see you've put some hard work on that thing. Best of luck from me!
|
Thanks!
Tomorrow we will make a final sprint to complete our database! Also we will implement two very cool features which I'm sure you're going to like!! We will announce them as soon as we're going to submit the app. Stay tuned ;-) |
Woo, can't wait! :)
I really want to use it NOW :P |
Im pretty much exploding with excitement! Could we get an update? :DDDDDDD
|
Thanks guys :)
Sorry we've been away for a while. Some things happened and I'm going to be honest with you. There's a competitor app in the iPhone App Store which seems to contain a similiar feature set as lukomon Pokédex. This had great impact on us. We've been working for months on lukomon and now, just a week before our release this app enters the App Store. Seriously, we didn't like that! We managed to convert this.. frustration into motivation and we've added some very cool features (which we will announce with the actual release) with which we hope to attract some people. lukomon has been on our minds for so long and is really close to our hearts. Concepting, designing, coding, database work; hundreds of hours of work and love to offer a complete app for Pokémon players that is easy and fun to use and nice to look at. Now I cannot judge the other developer but he copy-pasted the open-source veekun database, wrapped it into a UI and sells it in the App Store for 2 bucks. Things like these happen! We can't do much about it and we still believe in lukomon. At the moment we're working on those cool features and we plan to submit it this week. We have lot's of cool features on our roadmap which will make it into the app soon. Apologies for the delay, I hope we can get your understanding. |
Well if you can't really do anything if you released the source code :\, that really sucks though, whoever did that is a total douche.
EDIT: I found the app, and of course I am not buying it, and I am waiting for lukomon.. They totally copied you. I remember finding this app BEFORE "version 2" and it was a ****** pokedex that just showed pokemon's stats. Now they have everything you've worked hard on, because they know how to copy-pasta. |
I'm sorry to hear that, Kombo. I'm also going to be honest with you: that Pokédex app sure looks great. Maybe not as great as lukomon, but it does have a lot of info (more than you have?) So my question is, can't you 'just' copy/paste it too, like those guys did? Or will you then be breaking copyrights from veekun or something?
|
I just found this; it definitely looks great so far.
Sorry to hear about the other Pokédex app; that must be a pain to live with. But technically, that should be illegal, since I don't believe you can sell something that's open-source and make a profit off of it. That's why all of those developers who work on open-source software/music (but that's more Creative Commons)/etc. say if you purchased it, you're being ripped off. I will download lukomon just to spite the other "developer." Copy-pastaing is not true developing. |
Wow that's a good one TheAppleFreak. Isn't this guy just breaking copyrights? You can tell veekun right, or Apple at the least? I guess that would mean the app will be banned from the store, unless he makes it free or something (or he can make an agreement with veekun). So my advice is trying to contact veekun or Apple. Or have you already done that?
|
Well this is definitely an app I'll pay for. I don't have an iPhone or anything, so I can't express my dislike for the other app :P But when it comes to Android, I will definitely purchase it.
Still waiting patiently for it. =) |
Haha, I have a friend who also has an Android, so I guess he'll be very happy with the app too! Is the Android version coming along nicely, Kombo?
Also, I thinked a bit more about this guy with his app, and I looked at the screenshots. The more I look at his reviews and screenshots/description, the more I start to hate him. All those people don't know how lazy this guy really is (according to Kombo's explanation) and he just copied all those hard work from people at veekun... I'm really glad you're so close with the community Kombo, something the guy from that app isn't (at least, Google delivers nothing when searched). I'll definitely tell all my friend about this app! I really hope your app will be a succes, because I think you deserve it... :) |
I'm getting a Droid this summer, and this will easily be the first app I get. :D
|
Thanks everyone. Thanks for the kind words!
veekun's license allows user's to grab the data and do whatever they want with it, including selling it. I always thought it was licensed under Creative Commons like Bulbapedia. So there's nothing we can do against the other app except for creating a better app. I guarantee we will. We have to make some tough decisions. We could also use veekun's database but that would mean we'd throw away hundreds of hours of work on our own database. Plus we know our database model and it is more efficient. Another possibility is migrating some of the missing data from veekun to our own database. This means we can also easily include swarm and radio locations. We will decide today. Meanwhile we implemented three cool features which I unfortunately cannot announce at this point. We will be more open again once we've entered the App Store/Market and that should be soon ;-) The Android version is coming along nicely as well. We implemented some Android specific features like the menu and only have to recreate our graphics at different sizes since there are like 3 different Android resolutions! I thank you all for your support and trust in lukomon! http://lukomon.com/images/lukodev1504.png |
No problem! This app is great and I'm going to support you guys thoroughly. In fact, I think I'm going to advertise this in my signature later today. :3
|
Hah that's a nice one Serene Grace! I'll do that on other forums too (i'm not that active on this forum :P).
And @Kombo, no problem man, I really trust in this app. Also, what is that screen about? It looks like the iPhone resolution, or is this just a teaser? ;) Anyway, looks cool, especially that character! |
Good work, I love the look of the app, and it really is all anyone will need, I will get this for sure, except for the fact I have $0.66 on my iTunes account, and no way to get more at the moment. :( I will look for the promo codes wherever they may be. Keep up the work and I am sure you will be more then appreciated.
If you decide to give out promo codes, I would love to reserve one if it is even possible. |
Wow, this looks really good. It's definitely gonna be the best Pokedex app, as most of them are quite expensive, plus they only include one thing like moves, or locations, while this includes everything. I would definitely get this, except that I don't have and iPod or anything like that. Even though I can't get it, I can't wait for it to come out.
|
Wow, i will most deff get this :)
This looks amazing. I might acc want to spend some of my 15$. Also a useless suggestion: Music: Like add routes and city's music, or something? i dont know. |
Wow if i ever get an Iphone i would love a promo code please?
|
Is there a possibility of this being on Symbian? Since I have a N79, I'd really like this App, looks really cool :D
|
Serene Grace, Pokafreak: We'd love you for helping us out promoting when we're going to release! Thanks!
The image is actually our splash screen with our lovely mascotte :-) countryemo: we've actually looked at music but that would make the app to big in filesize. Bluerang1: I don't really know the Symbiam or Maemo OS but we might port in the future :) That kind of depends on te success of lukomon on other platforms. The extra features that caused the delay are implemented now and I can't wait to show them to you! Now we're just have to do some last testing! |
