Raikou
I'm in just below the city with the burned tower, training my pokemon after I beat that gym leader, and what do you know? Raikuo shows up. So I'm freaking out, my lv. 15 nidoran must of crapped him self. So knowing that they run. I decided, what the heck. I trow my only quick ball I got from Kurt for free. On the first time I catch him. I'm soooo happy now.
So, this happen to anyone else? Also, I sudgest trowing quick balls at them if you find them unprepared like I did. |
ROFL!
i bet you had to clean up your nidoran's pants at least twice after that! lucky ... i havent seen any of the dogs yet, but i have chased down suicune once in Cianwood. im totally drawing a blank but can you buy quick balls or do you have to make them with an apricorn? |

I've encountered both raikou/entei while my pokes were underleveld. It didn't occur to me to throw a quickball though x___x. Good stuff thar.
|
You mean a fast ball?? A quick ball is something else but they both have the same effect.
|
Similar thing happened to me in Japan's version - not that early but still with pre-level-30 Pokemon in my team, heh.
|
I know a guy who has Raikou and Entei and he's only at the.. 2nd or 3rd gym or so.
|
That is genius!!! I have just been trying to slowly cut back their HP and then hopefully try to catch them when there Hp is low yellow or red. I will try to fast ball thing.
Anyone else have this problem? I was able to track both Entei and Raikou on my map, but then all of a sudden they don't show up anymore. I haven't fainted or caught either of them. They just disappeared... |

Immediately after I released the dogs from the Burned Tower, I went out west to train, and the first step I took into the grass was a Raikou.
I tried a Fast Ball, but it didn't work; what a surprise -_-. SIMILARLY, when I started my game, the first step I took into grass was a shiny Pidgey. I was angry, because I couldn't capture it =X |
My way of getting Raikou was cheap I think. I traded a Masterball just in case I ran into a shiny through my journey, and when I went west of Burned Tower,I ran into Raikou!
My poor Croconaw must of been really freaked out |

I've seen Raikou three times, no Entei though.
I'm kinda disappointed, I think this Raikou might have a -Speed nature considering my level 30-ish Misdreavus outsped it? Still, I've just been hitting it with some random attacks every time I see it, so when it's low enough, I know a Quick Ball will pwn it ;) |
Quote:
But if you do end up capturing it and you plan on EV training it and it doesn't have the nature you want, you can always make it faint and once you defeat the Elite Four, it will return to battle you again. |
I found Raikou by accident and then tracked both Entei and Raikou down; they're now both roaming, around 5HP, and paralyzed. I just need to fast ball'em.
|
I've ran into Entei a lot. Brought his health down to like 5 HP. I can't catch him with Quick Balls or Dusk Balls. :( (I play mostly in the evenings.)
I've only ran into Raikou a couple of times, and every time he flees before I can do any damage. Right now, whenever I try to hunt one of them down (mostly Entei) he moves before I get to him. :/ Gets really annoying. |
Uwah, lucky you!
I've seen him twice, but not had my gengar sorted out to the point where I can trap the darned cat. He's my favourite of the three aswell! D:!!! Now I need to go pester Kurt for some balls (ones that arn't INERT) and catch him. : <<< |

I was on my way to Mahogany town that time. I had only 1 quick ball, so I went "what the heck" then threw it. Then when the ball was shaking, my eyes were slowly becoming huge. Then the ball turned grey. Click! ._. I was like "wtf." |
I saw both Raikou and Entei when surfing, just has this mental image of them doing a doggy paddle in the lake or w/e.
Tried thowing a ball at Entei but no avail, when I ran into Raikou I just paralysed it and let it flee, should make the job easier later on down the line. I'll might borrow my mean look haunter from Platinum. |
I spent all of Easter Monday morning tracking Raikou and Entei. Used Scyther to False Swipe them and Ampharos paralyzed them. Couldn't be bothered to get something with hypnosis, so I made do with paralysis :P. Once they were in prime catching conditions I started chucking Quick Balls. Entei went in on the third attempt, but Raikou took about 15. Caught Suicune last night too. Nothing on the first attempt, again False Swiped and paralyzed, it resisted 1 Quick Ball, 1 Timer Ball, 2 Premier Balls and 49 Ultra Balls. Yeah. Tried again and got it after 29 Ultra Balls. Modest too :3. Raikou is Mild, which isn't ideal but it could be useful as a Mixed Sweeper and Raikou is Docile, which is neutral, so they're all going over to Platinum to be EV trained soon =]. Just used them all in a Pokéthlon too, couldn't resist :P
|
After the dogs fled the tower, I went to train my pokemon and as soon as I stepped in the grass Raikou showed up. Didn't think to use the fast ball, just attacked.
|
Catching Raikou and Entei
I was looking around for strategies on how to catch these two, and it was taking me forever. I had a pokemon with "Mean Look," but it wasn't the same one that had "False Swipe" or any of the "Spore" moves. So I could trap them for a turn, but then they would use "Roar" and end the battle anyway.
Then I had a moment of inspiration. I sent out my Toys R Us Arceus and caught them with Level Balls. There is a difference of 60 levels, so the catch rate skyrocketed. What strategies did you guys use? |
I taunted, then mean look'd, sleep powder'd, weakened, then caught with luxury balls. :P
|
Quote:
|
Use the fast balls that you make with the white apricorns!!
|
Headbutt 'em until they're in the red zone, then use............. Poké Balls. :P
|
I used my Master ball with Entei because I love him <3 And I used an Arena trap Digglet with Raikou...he took forever U.U
|
wow level balls
i need to try that with my arceus : P |
Quote:
I used Master Balls (the one given by Elm and one I won off the Pokemon Lottery). Shameful, but Lugia and Ho-Oh don't run. |
I didn't catch them yet but i will use or the arceus strategy or the digglet strategy o.o didn't thought about it :o
|
[ here's a PC blog entry I made on the subject a lil' while back ]
Catching them with under-leveled pokemon was so fun. |
i just chucked a master ball, much much easier, i started again and traded over my masterball so im now at the light house with a raikou ^^
|
Merging your thread with an already made thread on catching Raikou and Entei. You can discuss both strategies and Pokéballs used to capture the two escaping Legendary Beasts here.
I encountered Entei twice, once yesterday and again the day before. I tried using a Quick Ball or was it a Fast Ball? Anyway, the first time it shook twice, but Entei broke free and escaped. The second try, I did the same technique, but this time it wasn't as successful. I'm really not ready to capture them as yet, but when I am I have a strategy planned with Mean Look, False Swipes, and Hypnosis [Gengar, Scyther, Poliwhirl]. We'll see how well it works out though when I actually try it. |
It won't work - as soon as you switch out a Pokemon that has used Mean Look, the Mean Look breaks and they bolt for it. Or at least it was like that when I last tried that tactic - in Generation II :P
|
Okay here's a lil strategy for sure catch ;)
What you need: - A Haunter/Gengar (in my case, Boo) that knows Shadow Ball (TM from Morty), Mean Look and Hypnosis. (I only had Haunter.) - A Scyther with False Swipe. (Both my Haunter and Scyther were at 34, I did this right after I beat Jasmine.) - Lotsa Poke/Great/Ultra Balls and Repels. Okay so I stood between routes 37 and 36, which is right below Ecruteak, and east of National Park. (You should know that that's the right spot if you're beside a Trainer Tips sign that explained about the move Dig.) Then I put Boo first in my party. Time to track down the beasts! So go down to route 36, check the Pokégear. If any of them are not beside Nat'l Park, go up to route 37, then check the Pokegear. So how do you know if you're on the same route as them? Your character's icon has a black border, so if you see in your Pokegear that there's some white around your icon, one of them is probably there. Note: In route 37, the patch of grass where they appear is the one below the 3 Apricorn Trees. In route 36, the patch of grass where they appear is the one right beside School Kid Alan. If you don't know where that is, from Sudowoodo's spot, go down then left. :P When on the same route, use a Repel then go on grass. You'll probably encounter only Raikou or Entei with repels on. I used Mean Look to trap them, then Hypnosis for sleep. Then I spammed Shadow Ball, around 3 times, until they're in the red zone. I tried throwing some Pokeballs while it's asleep, but when it woke up, my Boo always got knocked out. So I sent out Scyther, and used False Swipe before it ran. I did this for the two of them, that leaves them both with 1 HP. Then I kept tracking them between routes 37 and 36, then when I saw them with 1 HP, I used Mean Look, Hypnosis. Then spammed balls. So this strategy was so effective for me, I caught both of them within an hour. |
I've caught Entei in a Masterball, and I'm taking on Raikou with my Slowking. (lv.39 + Impish nature proves that you always outspeed:P).
|
Lucky.
I caught my Run away Raikou with a Pokeball, while on full health, before I had done the 3rd Gym. I just chucked what I had (only Pokeballs) and it rolled once - ok... - twice - what? - three times - OMG - click - WTF?!? Wasted none on it either. Just first one. However, I still had problems with Whitney, because there was no point using it (wouldn't obey me). Also, what colour apricorns make level balls? I really want some. |

Unless of course I'm missing something..? |
But Kurt gives you Fast Balls, Quick Balls are different. You may have used a Quick Ball, but you didn't get it from Kurt.
|
it happend with entei wasent even looking for him cought him with a heavy ball.
|
What I did, was caught a Gastly at level 4 and trained it up to level 29.
I camped at the Lake of Rage going down to the route below and checking my Pokegear everytime. When either dog appeared I would - Mean Lock - Hypnosis - Ultra Ball. |
Well, I was training my Gastly that I caught at Sprout Tower and it was level 7. I ran into a wild Entei, it fled and afterwards I talked to my Gastly and it was surprised. I take a few more steps to find another Wild Pokemon to fight and Raikou pops up. I'm sure my Gastly had a Heart Attack. It fled and I went to the Pokemon Center to heal because I needed to do so, when I came back to the Route Raikou appeared again. Now my Gastly hates me.
|
I purposely chased down Raikou, and I used my MasterBall. I felt bad about it afterward, but after reading this thread, I just feel stupid. ._.
|
I encountered Entei, and I had no pokeballs...but then I found him again (months later XD) and I finally got him =D I just need Raikou and Suicune
|
Quote:
Also, guys, Roar has -1 priority, so it'll hit after a normal move. |
My plan for Entei and Raikou later in the game is to catch a Diglett with Arena Trap and train it to a level 40 Dugtrio.
|
^
Make that 39 so they'd appear even if you use Repel. :P |
Quote:
Really? I'd be interested to know how that ratio works. Is it like... 40/100 is reduced down to 2/5? So you have a 2 in 5 chance of catching it? |
No, Level Ball works best when [(your level) / 4] > (target's level.) If that's the case, then Level Ball would have a Multiplier of 4, used for calculating the Capture Probability.
In this case, since the above statement is FALSE, then we move on to the next statement, [(your level) / 2] > (target's level.) Since this is true, in this case, Level Ball has a multiplier of 2, exactly the same as using an Ultra Ball. |
I haven't encountered any of the dogs yet, but I'm still planning on getting them the hard way.
If all else fails I'll try the quick ball for sure. |
Quote:
|
I've got both Entei and Raikou down to the redzone, now I'm just chucking whatever I have in my inventory. But the level ball idea is good. I'll try it with my Ampharos.
|
When i first saw Raikou i panicked and threw my master ball <_<
|
I've been trying to catch both of the legendary Pokemon...and haven't had much luck. I got Raikou down to red HP and he is paralyzed and I' am slowly draining Entei down to low HP with my Ampharos using Signal Beam (who is at lv. 59) and is paralyzed. I also been using Quick/Ultra Balls but I need to get me some Fast Balls (White Apricorns from Kurt).
I've been doing this though to make them appear: I run up and down between Goldenrod City and below. After running up and back down, I check my PokeGear Map to see where they are. Usually, sooner of later, one of them will appear where I' am. I find this a heck of a lot easier than just Flying after them and hoping that where I land they will be there. Sometimes, I will see Raikou in my area on my Map and than go into the grass to catch it... I would than run into other wild Pokemon (use a Repel to dispel this pestful situation). So I check my map and WOW-AND-BEHOLD! Raikou had run off to the other side of the Map, which is obnoxious. I have been running into Raikou a lot more than Entei and have only run into Entei twice, Raikou about four times in the last hour. So yeah, I suggest that method that I'm using. It's easier, quicker and I strongly suggest you load up with Fast Balls/Heavy Balls/Ultra Balls/Quick Balls/Time Balls, and get a Pokemon that either knows one of these three moves: Mean Look (Ghastly), Arena Trap (Diglett), and Hypnosis (Hypno). |
Sit in Ecruteak and look for it, you can access most Routes in Johto easily from there. I've chased them both around down to low health before.
I've just figured out a brilliant plan, except I'd need a Mean Look + Baton Pass pokemon, and I don't know of any. Because an Event Arceus and Level Balls one a low health Sleeping/Paralyzed Raikou/Entei would be a brilliant combination. However, obviously I'd have to not use Repels. |
I've met 'em but haven't really tried the quick ball strat yet X3

[/] - (Arena Trap is an Ab. not a move) [ ] - They can still run if they are asleep Once you got them down to Red and Plzd Use your highest Lv. Pokemon and then Chuck Ultra Balls at them |
Well when I released them I didnt even bother to go and look for them. But I did happen to run into Entei while I was training, and the weird thing is I ran into it when I was surfing! e.o that was my WTF moment. I just used a quick ball but no luck. Then later on after my first run through the E4 I transferred over my masterballs from emerald and caught the 2 remaining dogs. (it was hard to chase them down though)
|
Yeah.
It's called [Name] Ball + Luck. But,It happened to me with my Entei. So,I guess I can consider myself lucky too. |
gosh i hate you guys! i ran around forever using my scythers false swipe and my noctowls hypnosis and my wabuffet's shadow tag ability trying to catch them with quick balls and ultra balls and every other kinda ball and they wont friggin stay in the ball! they wake up in a few turns but theyve still only got one hp. grrrr. i hate them. i still havent caught them

I got all three of the dogs, sorta got all the travelers in a legendary catching marathon I went on. Also got Suicune and Latios... |
Pffft. I just catch a Snorlax, encounter them and begin False Swiping or whatever. Maybe I'll use Weavile...
|
I was randomly look around for the once while my Gameboy was about to die. While I was doing that I encountered them a few time, and brought them down to Red Zone and put them to sleep.
And then the awesome happened. I encountered Raikou again. Now, seeing as my DS was going to die any second, I didn't care weather I caught it or not. So, being funny, I through a Friend Ball, even saying 'BE MY FRIEND, RAIKOU'. Then turning to my friend, just waiting for Raikou to break out and run away, I spoke to him for a few second. Then I look back at my game, and... '*Click!* Raikou was Caught!' I spazzed, and saved because my battery was almost dead. XD; As for Entei I was randomly throwing balls, and threw a great ball. Again, I said something lulzy ('YOU'RE GREAT ENTEI, SO GET IN THE GREAT BALL SO YOU CAN BE GREAT') and spoke to my sister. Next thing I knew I caught Entei. |D |

I've got them both down to 1HP using False Swipe I taught to my farfetch'd (you can buy the TM at the Goldenrod Department Store for 2,000 on the 5th floor). I also put Wobbufett out first in my party so the dogs can't run away unless they faint it. It's a pain, because I think I can just switch out the Pokemon so it can't faint and the Ability Shadow Tag will still be in effect... but it isn't once I switch it out. Plus, what do you do when you catch Pokemon concerning the ball itself? Do you press the A Button when you throw the ball and throughout the time it wiggles, or do you just chuck it and let it go its own course? I tried both, and I often times find that when throwing the ball and pressing the A Button throughout the capturing, you must keep a steady rhythm of taps and tap the A Button as a high speed, and this is very difficult. I used to use the method of tapping the A Button every time the ball wiggles, but that doesn't work for me anymore. Any suggestions? Also, I heard that Entei/Rakou uses the move: Roar, it will flee and when you check the map you can't see it, plus, the Pokemon will never appear again? Is this true? Is there any possible way to keep Entei/Rakou from using Roar besides the move Disable? |
No, Disable only works AFTER the move has already been used once. The only way to avoid Roar is to use the move "Ingrain" or have a pokemon with the "Suction Cups." However, there are only 3 pokemon with the Suction Cups ability, and none of them can learn Mean Look. The only way to do this would be to Mean Look, Baton Pass, and then switch in a Pokemon with this ability. Which is really more trouble than it's worth.
Anyway, I looked up some info today on the Level Ball, and it has a 4x capture rate against the Legendary Beasts if the TRU Arceus is the first in your party. Today, I used Super Fang 5 times to get Suicune down (Pachirisu), Sang it to sleep with my Jynx, switched in Arceus, and caught it on my second throw with a level ball. |
Entei appeared!
So guys, this morning when i woke up i turned my DS on and got on my way to Olivine, surprised i was when, on Route 38, Entei appeared before me (I owned Morty last night), i couldn't defeat or catch the guy so i ran away. 5 minutes ago i return to the same spot and our friend, Entei appears again. Has this happened to anyone? Just to check if this isn't some kind of bug or just mere coincidence.

I acidentally ran into Entei without meaning to.
I tried my luck and threw a Ultra Ball (all I had on me.) No such luck, I intend to hunt down the Legendary roaming Pokemon after E4/Kanto Gyms. :3 |
