Seeing the team in your sig, you should level up till your Jynx learns Ice Beam. That is great for the Dragonair's and just use your best attacks for Kingdra. Level up your team to atleast 35.

To be honest, you only need to be around the mid to high 30's. The early 40's is strong enough to beat the Elite Four. At least, for me it was. Your only problem with Clair will be her level 41 Kingdra, really. So if you can get to about level 38 you should be fine.

Can you re-battle gym leaders? I thought you could but when I went to do so they just chatted with me...
I wanted to as a method of training...

"To use Pal Park, a player must transfer six Pokémon from a Generation III game of the same language as the Generation IV game using a Nintendo DS or DS Lite."

^ What exactly does "same language" mean here? As in format or just standard language? Is an EU version 3rd Gen able to work with a UK HG/SS in pal park?

You have to talk to them in certain places in certain days, and then call them in certain times, for them to appear re-battleable at the Dojo in Saffron.

Info on all of them (from serebii) here. ^_^

Just to check, but I encountered Raikou yesterday by complete accident (no searching or anything) after I defeated the Elite Four. Attempted to catch it on full health with a Quick Ball (you guessed right, it failed :D) and it fled. Now, I should be able to encounter it again at some point, right?

Stupid question, but just want to make sure.

Yes you will. XD
And Entei too. And later on Latias/Latios (depending on version).

You can find their locations on the PokéGear's Town Map.

Kanto_Johto April 14th, 2010 8:38 AM

Okay, so I've checked, and I still can't access the mountain block. What's more is that I've spent all day trying to hook a dratini with a good rod at the swamp area, but have had no luck?

Ayone care to shed to some light for me? Thanks.

Just a quick question, with the pokewalker, can you trade over a pokemon, and when it is traded back, can it evolve.

For example, trade over a Haunter and when traded back, it evolves to Gengar?

Tyros April 14th, 2010 11:36 AM

So, I'm trying to get Blue's phone number. I've had one of my Pokemon massaged once every day for the past five days with his sister. I'm pretty sure that Pokemon, and plenty of others on my team, are maxed on happiness.

And yet... The only thing she ever says to me is stuff about how she always has tea at that time. =/ Anyone know what's going wrong?

Foreign Pokemon come from different language versions - completely different catridges, generally from different countries - and are programmed differently, as to deem them "foreign".

'has nothing to do with in-game. If you have a NA ENG version of HGSS, an NA FR version would be "foreign". So would the Japanese version, France version, Spanish version, etc.

You NEED to trade to get a "foreign" Pokemon.

Ugh, you guys completely misrepresented what I said.

Ninja: I posted a link to an earlier post of mine that explained that in-game "foreign" Pokémon don't work. That's what I was referring to.

Yusshin: I know what I'm talking about, and I'm pretty sure you completely misunderstand what we were talking about. In case you don't know, there are in fact "foreign" Pokémon in-game. A man in DPPt has a German Magikarp, and Lt. Surge has a French Pikachu that he gives you. However, if you checked my linked post, you would have seen that I said that while their surface information is foreign, the coding is not, and that breeding the in-game foreign Pokémon won't work as far as the Masuda Method goes. You seem to be heavy on the patronization, so I'd recommend you'd please read my earlier post again before you explain to me what foreign means.

HG/SS Help Thread Update

Here's a reminder that to keep this thread clean. Meaning, people ask questions about the HG/SS games and others answer them. The "Thank you" responses are not necessary (if you must, post it with your question at the end). These just spam the thread more and leaves it cluttered - which is something we aren't looking for.

Also, ROM Questions are not allowed here either. If you look at our rules, you will see any discussion or questions on ROMs aren't meant for here. Instead, check the Emulation Section's sticky for their Help Thread on the HG/SS ROMs.

Anyway, that's basically the majority of it for this update. You may proceed with your questions and answers.

Thank you. (see, like that) =P

Is it possible to Mystery Gift a Wonder Card over to a friend, such as the Yellow Forest Event Wonder Card?

umbreon_4_life April 14th, 2010 3:11 PM

Hmmm... Okay, so what are you supposed to do after you beat all of the Kanto gym leaders? Beat Red? My Pokemon aren't ready and I don't feel like training! Ugh what should I do? I'm so lazy and I don't know what to do!!! Help? I tried to go up Mt. Silver to get to Red, but I got lost... -_- Figures. Well, where's a good place to train for Red?

^ is why it took me 130 hours to finally beat Red, because I was also way too lazy to train for him (and I beat him in the high sixties/seventies, yup).

There aren't many places to train, to be honest. There's the Pokemon at Mt. Silver, but they don't do too much good unless you don't mind grinding. Another option would be to gather all the Gym Leaders' phone numbers, and call them at the right time to battle 'em. Eventually, when you think you're at a high enough level, you can try to Elite Four (upgraded) for another training method, along with beating your Rival up Mondays and Wednesdays after you beat Claire and Lance with him in the Dragon's Den.

EJ April 14th, 2010 3:19 PM

^I second this question.

Why does your rival show up in the Dragon's Den?

mrmo1115 April 14th, 2010 4:06 PM

Working on a Togetic > Togekiss..

I want to teach Togekiss moves that apparently are only learned at Level 1 eg: Aura Sphere, etc.

How will I be able to give Togekiss back these moves if they can't be earned through level up?

He's training there so he can get stronger.

As for the Gym Leaders:
Spoiler:
Falkner: Celadon City Department Store on Mondays, must have beaten Janine
Bugsy: Ilex Forest or Viridian Forest on Thursdays
Whitney: Goldenrod City Department Store Saturday from 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM
Morty: Bellchime Trail on Mondays and Tuesdays
Chuck: From Chuck's wife
Jasmine: Olivine City diner every day between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM
Pryce: Lake of Rage on Saturdays between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM
Clair: Dragon's Den every morning between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM, must have beaten Lance and her in a double battle.
Brock: Diglett's Cave every day between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, must have beaten Blue
Misty: Route 25 unless Suicune is present, every day between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, must have beaten Blue
Lt. Surge: Power Plant after Zapdos is captured or defeated, but only between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, and only if the player is walking with a Pikachu
Erika: Celadon City fountain on Saturdays and Sundays between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM
Sabrina: Olivine City harbor on Fridays at any time
Janine: Pokemon League Reception Gate every evening between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM
Blaine: Cinnabar Island on Tuesdays at any time, must have beaten Blue

Move Relearner in Blackthorn. You'll need Heart Scales.

M i n a t o // April 14th, 2010 4:27 PM

Forgive me, I wasn't sure if this question should be in the Team Help Forum or not, but I guess I'd might as well try.
As of HG and SS, Aron and his evolutions are now able to learn Head Smash via Egg moves. If I have the Egg created in Soul Silver, then trade it to Diamond and hatch it there, will it still learn Head Smash? Or will it have to be hatched in Soul Silver? Because Soul Silver has barely any decent place to hatch eggs :[.

alisaie April 14th, 2010 4:30 PM

I don't know myself (it could be a yes because it was created in SS, or it could be a not because of the ID and the game), but you can try the Cycling Road to hatch your eggs. Not as good as what's in D/P/Pl, but it's still pretty good, because you only have to press on the up D-pad when you reach the bottom of the Cycling Road.

You saw my thread about how you can call anyone for rematches over and over again as long as it's the right time and day, right?

Why don't you use that method? I promise you it's fast. I got one of my Pokemon from 66-70 today in a matter of 30 minutes or less, just by rematching a fisherman about 6 or 8 times in a row. Look at some of the more recent posts I put on there - there's full information about two of the trainers. I'm compiling more information over the next few weeks, too.

Also, my question again, because it was never answered:
What am I doing wrong in the process of getting Blue's number?
I've been the past five days in a row to get massages (today was actually the sixth) and I'm pretty sure each of the Pokemon in my party have max happiness... And yet, she doesn't give me the phone number. Anyone have a reason?

Edit:
Oh, and as for an answer to Minato:
The answer to the question is yes, that the egg should still have Head Smash. This is because the data for the Pokemon is created soon as you pick the egg up. Meaning, you already have a Head Smash Aron right there... It's just that it has a bit of coding that makes it appear as an egg until a certain amount of steps have been taken. When it hatches, the Head Smash won't have disappeared, because it's essentially the same as trading over, say, an Extreme Speed Dratini. Extreme Speed won't disappear just because it's going between games.

What would be two good partners with it for the Battle Frontier?

EDIT: BTW does belly drum cut the HP in half when used on a magic guard pokemon?

It's really all up to your preference.

And that's actually a really good question. Magic Guard cancels out the effects of Life Orb without taking away the power boost, so that would be one reason to believe it doesn't, but on the other hand, the HP must be cut in half in order to get the Attack boost (in terms of sequence), and I don't think the coding allows for just part of a single move to be executed. I'm leaning towards no in terms of the answer, but I really can't be sure.

how do you battle him twice? o.o

Ezio Auditore da Firenze April 15th, 2010 10:23 AM

Well....this about that darn Togepi...

Every time it hatches, I always get Hustle as the ability. Is this set for all copies?Or am I unlucky?

Also, with Hustle, is accuracy lowered for all moves? Or just physical attack moves?

It's just....I finally got a Modest one, although it's female so I could breed....I won't get Extrasensory then....

chillxd April 15th, 2010 10:24 AM

When you get an egg, everything is preset. So you should've saved before getting the egg, not before hatching it. I think that's how it works... Sum1 correct me if im wrong.

Check your options, there's a "Disable Signatures" one.

Also, once you've defeated Red, you merely have to defeat the Elite Four, and Red will be re-battleable. I guess seeing as you beat him, he believes it is a fluke, and wants to see you do something twice first?

Poké-Master April 15th, 2010 10:37 AM

Ok it already said it was on so why aint it showing still? Don't I need to do something like [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] ?

Ezio Auditore da Firenze April 15th, 2010 11:13 AM

yeah, you need that, obviously.

Does anybody know about Hustle? does it lower accuracy of everything, or just physical attacks?

Pokémon with this ability do 50% more damage with physical attacks, but physical attacks have 20% less accuracy. When a Pokémon with this ability is first in the party, wild encounters with higher level Pokémon have a higher chance of occurring.

alisaie April 15th, 2010 7:08 PM

I'm pretty sure you can SR for any shiny that you receive/walk up to (legendaries). And No, SRing doesn't ruin your DS/I/DSI XL unless you're not being careful, just like with everything else you do.

They made getting a Shiny be the same way as in the past (goes along with the whole remake virtue of HGSS), so it's harder to get one than in D/P/Pl.

Hello, I have a few questions...

1- My three main Pokémon on my SoulSilver cartidge (Ampharos, Giratina and Quilava) are too underleveled. (30, 30 and 33 respectively.) Next up is Pyrce, and I want a good place to grind quickly, because, well, I had to use the Arceus I used for Giratina for Jasmine's Steelix, and I do not want to use him much. I also ave the Pikachu-Colored Pichu and another level 2 Giratina (my friend's) along with Arceus and the other 3 Pokémon. I have already done the Rocket Warehouse in the Souvenir Shop (Since Giratina is so good.)) So, any grinding areas?

2- The Safari Warden needs another test. When can I take it?

Finally, where is TM Thunderbolt\Where is it sold?

Hey, I just have a quick question about EV training. If I send out my EV Pokemon against an opponant, but have to switch to another Pokemon during battle, does the EV Pokemon still get the points, or do they go to the other Pokemon (as he defeated the opponant)? Or do they disappear completely?!

Also, what's the best thing to go after if I want to EV my Poliwag in Sp.Atk?

EVs are shared between all of the Pokemon that get experience from the battle, including those holding an Exp. Share.

Yes, if you shake it back and forth it will record "steps" because it will sense the movement. You will get bored of it soon though - better to just take it with you at all times, whether it's getting up to walk to another room or walk to the park.

Also remember your Pokémon can only gain 1 level max in the Pokéwalker per "stroll."

And if you put in your pokemon into the walker and don't walk and pull him back out, he will be sad/disgruntled/unhappy with you.

Attack EVs: Machop (Mt. Mortar), Gyarados (Lake of Rage; You'll need a Super Rod, I'm certain of though).
Defense EVs: Geodudes (Caves); Graveler (Route Under Blackthorn)

There are more, but those are the two I can think right off the bat.

you have to go to lavender town after you get the power plant fixed and talk to one of the people in the radio tower and they will update your pokegear.

Can someone please explain to me what 'Fighting Spirit' means in regards to the Pokeathlon when they distribute the points at the end?

I always without fail get some of the lowest points despite excelling at everything and despite my friendship with my group and despite how many other bonus points we rack up.

I'm confused and Googling is worthless.

ExpShare

I accidently traded off my Exp-share in the GTS.. I'm having a terrible time switching my Pokemon out to trade them, and have awful luck with the lottery. Does anyone have a spare one they could trade to me? I'll try to give you something nice in return. D:

icycatelf April 16th, 2010 6:27 PM

I just started EV training my TRU Arceus today (though I will probably never use it for competitive play), but I'm having some issues.

EV spread goal:
HP 80
ATK 252
SPD 176

My Arceus has PokeRus. It has been fed 8 HP UP, 10 PROTEIN, and 8 CARBOS. It has defeated 90 Goldeen, 45 Rattata, and 30 Magikarp. According to my calculations, this would mean that it has more than enough EVs in the desired stats (HP 80, ATK 280, SPD 230; if there was no limit), but the woman in Blackthorn City still says that my Arceus needs to work a little harder. Am I doing something wrong?

jigglyppuff8 April 16th, 2010 6:29 PM

TRU Arceus is lv. 100.

Lv. 100 Pokemon cannot gain EVs other than the Vitamins.

I've heard that they can, but they'll only show up once you've deposited the Pokemon. It was on an EV training guide I read somewhere...

jigglyppuff8 April 16th, 2010 6:42 PM

If that was the case, then you wouldn't be asking for help for it now, would you? :<

Box trick only works in previous games.

Good point.

Do you think it would work if I traded it back to my Pearl Version and EV'd & Deposited it there- or did you mean it only works on non-DS games?

Eurydice April 16th, 2010 8:35 PM

i was wondering if anyone knew the list of trainer rebattle days and the times to call them. i found it awhile ago but now i cant seem to find it. thanks

Shiny April 16th, 2010 8:36 PM

After arriving in Ecruteak City, what is the first thing to do storyline-wise?

Eurydice April 16th, 2010 9:00 PM

you can go meet bill in the pokemon center. then defeat the team rocket grunt at the kimono girl dance place. then go to the burned tower and meet morty and esuine (sp?)

Politoeds

I know this is a "help" thread but im not sure if this kind of help is allowed.

Can anyone help me out by trading my poliwhirl and trading back to evolve it?

InfernoHo-Oh April 16th, 2010 9:35 PM

I need some help with Heartgold. I can't get to Pewter city via the Mt.Moon Route (its one way) and I can't get to Cinnabar Island, its blocked off by a 'bounder' and some workers. Also, the guy at the Victory road won't let me through to Kanto via that way. I've beaten 5 gyms, all the ones I can acess from there. The other 3 gyms are in the cities I can't get to. Help?
And Snorlax is blocking Digglet cave. I can't attack him?

Im pretty sure you have to get the radio setting on your pokegear that awakes sleeping pokemon by playing around with the radio setting and finding it. That should wake snorlax up.

you need to go to lavender town and get your pokegear updated. then go to the snorlax blocking the cave and play the pokeflute station (its towards the top i believe.) after that talk to the snorlax and he will attack. after that you will have access to digglet cave.

InfernoHo-Oh April 16th, 2010 9:43 PM

Thanks so much! I was really confused! I have the Pokegear Upgrade :D

The Pokemon Lullaby won't work ! And the march ... I have to test ...
I have updated with the EXPN Card !! But, as said earlier, Snorlax won't wake up with the lullaby and I'm gonna try the march .
Is this a glitch situation ?

you have to tune the radio by hand, just move dot in the middle then move it towards the top until you get the pokeflute channel

Sorry if I'm being nooby here, but...

I started to EV my Poliwag yesterday. He was Lv. 9 and I took him up by 1 level by battling 3 Mareep. According to Bulbapedia, Mareep gives an EV yield of 1 Sp.Atk, but when Poliwag levelled up, it was his Speed that had been raised.

Am I doing it wrong? This is the first time I've EV trained. :<

No you're doing it right, I think... Last time i checked, you had to defeat 4 before you got an EV, but I may be wrong. Try 4, and see if it works!
