Questions on EV Training and Level 50 battling

I was just wondering if a pokemon which has been fully EV trained to level 100 and then reduced to level 50 to battle if it would still be powerful?
Are stats just halved from what they are at level 100?
Or are the stats you had at level 50 used?
Will an level 100 EV pokemon brough down to level 50 still be a lot stronger than a non EV trained pokemon?
How do EV trained level 50's compare to non EV trained legendaries?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Proportionately, yes.

Neither, the game takes into consideration the EVs you have in each stat and recalculates the stats to what they would be at lv. 50.

Yes.

EV trained Pokemon are ALWAYS better than Pokemon that aren't EV trained. In my opinion, anyway.

I was wondering what are some good ways to raise a pokemon's happiness (prior to beating the E4) aside from running around with the pokemon and giving it potions.

Soothe Bell is there. Also, there are the Haircut brothers, leveling up, and using Vitamins. That's pretty much it besides walking around and potion spam.

Time Manipulation does not work.

I'm trying to level up my team to be near Claire's levels of 38-41...right now my team is at 36-38. Is there a decent spot to level up? It seems like it is taking forever, I've been leveling in Ice Path for now.

The best place as of then is below Blackthorn, and hope that trainers will call you for rematches. That is the quickest, even if its not all that quick.

Theres always a choice of training "Erratic" pokemon as they only need 800,000 total exp to get to lv 100, but most "erratic" pokes are rare to come across by in HGSS pre national dex.

I train mine in the same place but only with wild pokemon, in 40 min i have my team from 34-35 to 38-40 =)

Do the Trainer types/classes (the guy you talk to in the Violet City Pokecenter who can change your Trainer type) alter anything in-game besides your avatar appearance?

Also, exactly what is the purpose of Trainer types/classes?

Thanks in advance!

:)

What's up with that white cat looking thing on the map, much like the roaming dogs?
I can't figure out what it is for the life of me, can't catch it either.

Wait, I found it's Latias.

He does not, and the only purpose is for when you are on Wifi/on GTS/on Union Room is shows you as that sprite, most likely it was made so as there not to be confusion with everyone looking the exact same.

Is there any secret to catching Pokemon in the Safari Zone? Everytime I come across a strong Pokemon I can't catch it, I throw lots of bait, mud, balls, I don't know what to do...

Is there any secret combo I should use to catch them.

As far as I know, there's a couple things to remember.

Throwing Bait makes the Pokemon harder to catch, but more likely to stay.
Throwing Mud makes the Pokemon easier to catch, but more likely to run away.

Hey i'm a bit stuck between all badges and the new elite four and i'm wanting to change my team.
My team now consists of:

Meganium
Magmar
Onix
Ho-oh
Ampharos
Poliwhrat

I want to replace my onix with another pokémon, would snorlax be a good choiche?
Also thinking about replacing my Ho-oh later in the game because I want a non-legendary team eventually, any ideas for another good flying pokémon?

Pazuru April 21st, 2010 4:45 AM

If you get rid of Onix for Snorlax Aerodactyl is a good choice. That, or you can pick Xatu (for Flying/Psychic), Honchkrow/Mukrow (Flying/Dark), or possibly Gliscor/Gligar (Flying/Ground). This way you can avoid have two of the same type.

As for Onix for Snorlax, it does more good to your team than bad, as you rid of the grass weaknesses and such for a Pokemon with only one weakness: fighting. However, another alternative is Steelix (which you trade your Onix - or any other Pokemon to - to Jasmine for after you beat her in a rematch. Just as long as you don't mind the nickname 'Rusty'. That or trade with someone with a Metal Coat.) As Steelix will do you some good for Lance for many of his Pokemon. Garchomp is one big heck of an exception.

Im in Ilex Forest trying to catch that god damn bird! I just cant manage to do it?

Mujahid April 21st, 2010 6:34 AM

first chase it so it is in the bottom-left corner, by the rock. That's right where you want it. See those sticks? The piles of sticks that make noise when you step on them? Walk across both piles and watch the Farfetch'd listen to the noise, turning which direction it's looking.

When it's down there, step on the bottom set of twigs, the ones directly to the south of the rock it is by, then carefully walk to the right, avoiding that other set of twigs and go in from the other side of the clearing so you'll wind up behind the Farfetch'd. Press A by it when you're behind it and it's facing away and you'll catch it, bringing it back to the dude from earlier.

He expects you to go get the other one he lost. It's farther back in the forest. Head east, pick up the Revive along the way, and head for the next Farfetch'd. This patch is very similar and it will seem like the last one you just did, but it's actually a little more interesting due to where the twigs are placed.

To bag this Farfetch'd, lure it to the top-right corner (it won't go in the area where the two twigs are, so don't worry). When it's there, walk over and step on the set of twigs directly to its right. That will cause it to look right. Then walk up into the corner, carefully avoid the northern-most twigs, and then walk up so you're behind it. That's it

Ekmo April 21st, 2010 8:07 AM

Near the two rocks, or the one? Im trying lol.

Its really not working, maybe I am just not getting it?

Either click here or you can use it on a male kirlia (it has to be male) to evolve it into a Gallade, or a female Snorunt to evolve it into a Froslass. Hope I helped! :D

^^ This.

Basically, stepping on the twigs makes a noise and scared the Farfertch'd. You have to find a way to get behind it so it can't see you and grab it then. The quoted post details on the easiest way to do this.

If you put the Onix on the GTS (with an impossible request) and take it down after 24 hours, it'll evolve.

Or so I've heard.

If the GTS method doesn't work, you can catch a Steelix in the Cliffs/Cliff Cave area that span the distance between Cianwood and the Safari zone. Though be warned, Steelix can take a little while to show up so you have to be patient. :)

I left my Onix as he was and simply caught a Steelix there.

If I remember right, you need to run into Whitney (the Gym Leader) at the Radio Tower on the first floor at the information desk which will prompt her to return to the Gym.

well maybe you will have some troubles with Lance but if you train your team to at least lv 48, all will be easy (well, lest difficult). Try to teach to Gyarados Ice Beam or Blizzard but if you're like me and don't use the TM's well, stock at least 20 revives and 20 hyperpotions =)

loliwin April 22nd, 2010 4:54 AM

You mean the HM surf????

If you mean that, go to Ecruteak City and go to a building named Ecruteak Dance Theater. (it has a blue roof. :3) then you should see a Rocket Grunt with a Kimono Girl. Battle the grunt and win, then when you are about to exit, a gentleman shall award you Surf.

Hope that helps! xD

When you do Battle Arcade with a friend over wi-fi, can you reach the Tycoon? And does it earn you a frontier medal? I know it doesn't keep up with streaks and stuff in the facility for wi-fi battles, but I did notice that my second streak gave us 8 BP rather than 7, so it must track your wins somehow.

No. You can only reach the Frontier Brain in Single battle.

arcanine

what is the best nature for a growlithe or an arcanine

jigglyppuff8 April 22nd, 2010 3:04 PM

It's Adamant or Jolly since Arcanine's strengths lies in its physical stats.

While attack and speed may be its best stats, Adamant and Jolly not the only natures it can utilize well. Arcanine makes a more than fair special attacker, as its special attack stat is not that much lower than its attack stat. Additionally, it has a fair bulky set, and can make a good shuffler. All of Arcanine's sets (which I've essentially mentioned here) can be found here, and Smogon in general can prove a valuable ally when you're trying to figure out the best natures for a given Pokémon.

This is what I do: I get a Pokemon as a HM slave such as Wooper and just added to my team when I need to use of the HM moves outside of battle, and when I'm done, I put it back on the PC.

And when it comes on using the most important HM's as Fly, Surf, Strength I usually have a Pokemon on my team, learned them.

Well, if you're in competitive play, Fly and Strength aren't going to be useful, but I suppose they're helpful against in-game trainers. However, those are pretty important moves in the overworld. I personally like to have all the HMs learned in my party, at least if you're exploring. As long as you have a Pokémon that can learn Waterfall, you can gather the rest of the 7 HMs on Tauros and Farfetch'd (provided this is before the Elite 4, as post-E4 you can grab a Bibarel for your HM-slavery). However, once you get Fly, having the proper HMs at every moment isn't going to be a major concern, as you can just Fly to the nearest city to the get the Pokémon. Anyways, before the Elite 4, I just kept Farfetch'd and Tauros around at all times, just in case (other than in Gyms, of course).

MickX April 23rd, 2010 5:38 AM

Sorry if it was mentioned anywhere before, but for some reason I haven't got a Dratini from the Dragon Den Master. I assumed during the story that the Dratini is given on a second visit, but no matter how many times I go there the man never ever mentions about Dratini, only keeps talking about Lugia.

I begin to wonder whether I did something wrong with the game right now.

*Meowth V.2* April 23rd, 2010 7:34 AM

@ MickX. You have to leave a space in your party to get Dratini from the dragon master.

Question.

Where can I get Larvitar in Soul Silver besides Mt. Silver?

And if you can get him in the Safari Zone, what do you need to get him?

MickX April 23rd, 2010 7:40 AM

Just tried opening a spot on my team, doesn't work. The old man keeps babbling about Lugia and doesn't mention a thing.

I get the feeling I only had that window of opportunity during the storyline itself. Either that or something's wrong with my game...

Same thing happen to me, but after I opened a spot on my team, I got the Dratini from the old man. Did you answer his quiz correctly? If you didn't, you won't be able to get a Dratini with Extreme Speed. That's odd, you should be able to get a normal Dratini anyways.

Edit: Now I remember, first, you must get, TM59 (Dragon Pulse) from Clair.

Talk to the fisherman inside of the first house past the Gym in Olivine City and answer Yes to his question.

TechnoSparkX April 23rd, 2010 10:59 AM

he keeps saying about landing the big 1

jigglyppuff8 April 23rd, 2010 11:28 AM

EJ April 23rd, 2010 11:59 AM

@Micx: You could just get one of the Dratinis that appear while you're surfing in the Dragon's Den. Unless you want it already with extreme speed...

How do people get the perfect moveset? By that I mean where do they teach their Pokemon these moves?

You give the RageCandyBar to a guy in the Underground Path connecting Cerulean and Vermillion in Kanto. In exchange, you get TM64 Explosion.

Super Rod is found in Kanto on Silence Bridge (Route 12)

Egg moves, move re-learner/tutors in Blackthorn, Move-tutors at Frontier Access, and TMs.

People teach their Pokémon moves by breeding for certain egg moves, using TMs or the Move Tutor until the desired combination is acheived.

The Original Darkwiz787 April 23rd, 2010 12:34 PM

But once you use a TM it's gone. Is it possible to get a TM you already used again? How?

Depends on the TM. You can buy a bunch of them in the department store, some you can get through the games (like the Veilstone Game Corner), or you can trade them with people here for something.

Some are purchasable, while others can be passed on through breeding. (I believe... although you may have to investigate that one further)

1 last question:

IS LUGIA POSSIBLE TO CATCH? I had him at one health and burned and an ultra ball didnt shake once.

On a more serious note, can I beat Lugia and come back and catch her after the E4?

jigglyppuff8 April 23rd, 2010 12:56 PM

No to first, yes to second. To the first question, just keep trying or Master ball.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze April 23rd, 2010 12:57 PM

Yep. I guessed at this, but from what they say afterwards (the Kimono Girls), and according to Serebii.net etc. you can catch Lugia later.

Kon~ April 23rd, 2010 12:58 PM

I would also recommend using a Heavy Ball. When I battled Lugia, I had it with 1/3 health left and no status problems. One little Heavy Ball and Lugia was mine.

You get Heavy Balls by taking black Apricorns to Kurt. (Maybe. Can't remember exactly.)

Yes, it's black apricorns. And they're common as muck, almost as common as Green Apricorns, so if you get every one in Johto (or even better, both regions, depends when you're battling Lugia), and save for a couple of days, Kurt'll make you about 50

Aaron40 April 23rd, 2010 2:28 PM

Hey
Where do you get a Macho brace in SS

jigglyppuff8 April 23rd, 2010 2:31 PM

You have to trade for the Machop in the Goldenrod City Dept. Store.

jigglyppuff8 April 23rd, 2010 2:37 PM

Drowzee. The trainer with the Machop is on the 5th floor of the store.

Pokewalker Yellow Forest:

Question!

I know that returning and sending a Pokemon to the Pokewalker determines what kind of Pikachu you encounter in the Yellow Forest, but are there two predetermined sets of Pikachu from each of the three groups or are ALL the Pikachu in each group randomized? I already know that you can get either Surf or Fly Pikachu from Group A but not both on the same stroll, as well as either Volt Tackle/Fakeout or Flail/Shockwave Pikachu from Group B, and Thunderwave or Non-Thunderwave Pikachu from Group C. My question is, are the alternatives linked in a set pattern or are all the Pikachu from each Group randomized?

Example (How I think it is):

One stroll: Group A: Fly Pika, Group B: Flail Pika, Group C: Thunderwave Pika.

Other stroll: Group A: Surf Pika, Group B: Volt Tackle Pika, Group C: Non-Thunderwave Pika

If I find and catch a Pikachu that does not know Thunderwave, will that stroll guaranteed to have a Fly Pikachu? I want to know if the combinations are predictable like the examples above so that I can determine if I can find a Fly or Surf Pikachu just by checking to see if the "Group C" Pikachu knows Thunderwave. Can someone please let me know what's up? Thanks!

That's entirely up to you, but I'd go with Rivalry cuz it's not based entirely on luck like Poison Point is.

Someone PLEASE answer my question! (Two posts up)

jigglyppuff8 April 23rd, 2010 3:13 PM

Poison Point. With Rivalry, if the opposing Pokemon is of the opposite gender, then move power is dropped by 25%. It's best not to leave things like that to chance.
