Do I have to have at least 1 Pokemon in my party with Rock Climb to battle Red or can I change Pokemon right before battling Red?

You just need to transfer any Jirachi to HG/SS. There is no specific Jirachi that works, any will. And the route will unlock without you needing to put the Jirachi in the Pokéwalker. Just transfer and you're done~

Yes, you will need to bring someone who knows Rock Climb, and you will not be able to change your party before challenging him. It's not such a horrible move anyway, so if you happen to have a Pokémon that can learn it, just replace a move that is easily re-obtained, perhaps via Heart Scale.

Well that sucks... Anyways, is it possible to steal the Light Ball from Red's Pikachu? I mean, steal and keep it?

Alexeon May 15th, 2010 5:29 PM

Yup, you can steal and keep Red's Pikachu's Light Ball.

If I battle him again, will his Pikachu have another Light Ball or will it be missing? And after I beat him, is there some sort of record of my Team that beaten Red?

Alexeon May 15th, 2010 5:41 PM

The Pikachu will be holding another one, so you can steal as many as you'd like. And the only record as far as I know is the special Legend Ribbon that the Pokémon you used will obtain.

Merged your question here in the Help Thread.

Your best bet would be training in Victory Road. It's the closest place that has the highest leveled Pokémon so far and will allow your Pokémon to level up faster. If any trainer rematches comes up though, those are also good to do some extra training before you take on the Elite Four.

TopHat May 15th, 2010 6:21 PM

but victory road will whipe the floor with my level 20s.

shookie May 15th, 2010 6:29 PM

Use the Exp. Share to level each one up to where they can hold their own, then rinse and repeat.

TopHat May 15th, 2010 6:35 PM

Were can I get exp sharee.
And what does mean rinse mean,
I'm new to the world of training pokemon.
I normally just play and beat the game

shookie May 15th, 2010 6:44 PM

After you went to Lake of Rage and caught/defeated the red Gyarados, it left behind a red scale. Take that scale to Mr. Pokemon in his house north of Cherrygrove, and he'll give you the Exp. Share. You could also keep doing the Goldenrod Lottery until you get lucky and have 3 digits match, but the Scale delivery is a guaranteed Exp. Share.

"Rinse and repeat" isn't a Pokémon specific term...in this case I meant that when one Pokémon is high enough, take the Exp. Share off of it and give it to the next low leveled Pokémon until your whole team is high enough to kill mobs on their own.

All I can say to help you is this extract from Bulbapedia:
Quote:

The Pal Park in HeartGold and SoulSilver is located where the Kanto Safari Zone was in previous games, at the north end of Fuchsia City. As players cannot enter Kanto without the National Pokédex, it is also required in these games. As soon as the player has arrived in the city, the migrate option will appear on the menu screen.
Beyond that, I'm sorry but I just don't know. :/

Just wondering, is there like a hidden effect in Hyper voice that awakens pokemon sooner? Because I was fighting my rival's feraligatr today, put it to sleep, then hyper voiced it and it immediately woke up. Then I put it to sleep again, hyper voiced, and AGAIN it woke up in 1 turn.

There isn't anything recorded on Bulbapedia, Serebii or Smogon about it having an additional effect. It was probably just dumb luck :S

How Happy is your Pokemon?!

How do you find out the "number" that represents how happy your pokemon is?!

I've been trying to evolve Eevee at night for like few hours now... it was lvl 1 and it's lvl 23 and it's always happy...

:(

Winson May 17th, 2010 4:17 AM

Is it possible to get a Steelix before challenging Jasmine? O:

And also, is it possible to change the default display of a Pokemon in the Pokedex? Like is it possible to change the default display of a male Pokemon to the female version of the same species? Or from Origin-Forme Giratina to Altered-Forme Giratina?

emoxy May 17th, 2010 4:30 AM

I don't think you can check the number, only at the house in Goldenrod City you can check the rough status. Use Soothe Bell, it really helps. It with a few bicycle rides earns you a LOT of happiness.

I think Steelix is in one of the caves leading to Safari Zone (the one with the old man telling you to go up or down). I can't remember clearly though; I think it has an extremely low encounter rate.

Haha I'm sorry I can't help you on this one. I'm currently outside, and I don't catch pokemon for the pokedex, so I think I've seen the HGSS Pokedex less than 5 times. >< Sorry.

I was wondering how you can evolve Feebas in HeartGold. I mean, there is no Beauty to max out, so what can I do? Does it have something to do with Pokeathlon stats?

Pokethlon stats has nothing do do with it - truth is, the usual contest stats still exist in-game, you just can't see them. This means that you could either trade over Feebas to a D/P/Pt game and max out beauty there, or you could go to Daisy Oak in Pallet town for a massage. Apart from increasing happiness, it will also give your pokemon a 1/8 of the total boost in beauty, meaning that after 8 massages your Feebas will be maxed out and ready to evolve. ;D

Ludicolo, because it's dual type is Water and Grass can give you a fair coverage against other Pokémon. It can do pretty well in a team, especially if trained enough and given the right moves. If you like Ludicolo and wish to use it, I say go for it and just have fun.

If you'd like to have your entire in-game team reviewed and maybe given a few pointers here and there, I'd suggest asking in the In-Game Team Help sub-forum.

SkyAngel May 17th, 2010 12:09 PM

I has a question. In HG/SS when if you use swords dance or agility or something that raises your stats, then use U-Turn, does it transfer the stat boost like it does with Baton Pass?

If nothings changed from D/P/Pt to HG/SS then no it would not act as a baton pass and transfer the stat boost.

Gallade May 17th, 2010 4:06 PM

I'm wondering if Blue shows up at Cinnabar Island after a certain point in the game or is he there regardless of when you reach Cinnabar?

FreakyLocz14 May 17th, 2010 9:12 PM

How can one hear the Team Rocket battle theme on GB Player?
There are no more Rockets to battle once you get the GB Player.

loliwin May 17th, 2010 10:31 PM

@FreakyLocz14 I think you cant. Sorry, but you can always reverse time lawl. XD
@Gallade He's there when you reach Kanto, but he wont return to the Viridian Gym when you've got 15 badges.
@SkyAngel I think U-turn is completely different from Baton Pass. :(

I have two questions...

Does PKRS spread through your party from walking with an infected pokemon in HG/SS as it does in other versions?

I noticed that the sheen on the pokeball in my trainer memo for my Scizor is unlike my other pokemon.
It's in the shape of (o) where as the other balls have a single o
Does this indicate anything in particular?

Thanks for any help.

wiistevenduda1 May 18th, 2010 2:56 AM

I'm having some trouble with the Saffron gym. Whenever I get to the middle of this gym, Sabrina is not there. Did I miss something? Also Erika isn't appering at her Gym either.

This does sound odd... but we may need more info. Have you beat the gyms already? If so then it's perfectly normal - gym leaders will at times leave their gym to go somewhere around johto/kanto. If you encounter them you can get their phone numbers as well to battle them again. (More info on that can be found here: http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/gym-rematch.shtml).

And if not... then have you use an AR or somthing like that?

Yes it does, but not by walking like the other games...which also do not have it spread by walking! In stead do some battles, and after you do a few it would have likely spread to the next member or two. If not... do some more battles. Note it has to be the spreadable form as well (i.e. it says PKRS in purple in the status screen - non-spreadable form is a smiley face). Keep at least one Pokemon in the PC with PKRS if you want to continue spreading it for at midnight any Pokemon with it not in the PC lose the spreadable quality of it.

Also maybe you used a different Pokeball for the Scizor? Where was it caught/with what?

There is a way - listen to the radio on Sunday (nights maybe as well, idk) and you'll hear old tunes, including the intro music and team rocket themes old-style.

I had used a AR, is that bad? I don't think the codes should have messed up the gym leaders. I only have 2 Kanto Badges. I didn't fight them yet either.

where is the Machine Part in Cerulean gym?
im playin on a ROM and i dont have the item finder :(

EJ May 18th, 2010 2:46 PM

It should be in one of the inner tubes towards the northwestern side of the gym.

You must complete the lil quest prior to acquiring it. This includes traveling to the power plant, speaking to the manager, going back to Cerulean and talking to the foreign Team Rocket member. Then he himself will tell you where it is (after a battle).

My "Question"

Seeking to maximize my "exploration".

Routes, Caves (not by each room, just the cave name), cities.
I do not need to know what items are beyond the climb.

They may have changed this rule for HG/SS because I left 5 out of 6 pokemon in my party with PKRS overnight and filled the empty spot in the morning. After KO'ing a few random pokemon, the newly added pokemon contracted the virus.

Good to know.

Breeding with Power Items

Quote:

Breeding Differences

As GSC added breeding as a new feature, HGSS brought some new breeding features.

Firstly, there is a new way to pass down IVs from parents to the offspring, which is down via the Power items. If a parent holds one (or both parents hold two), then the stat that corresponds to power item will be passed down. The list:
  • Power Weights: HP
  • Power Bracers: Attack
  • Power Belt: Defense
  • Power Lens: Sp. Attack
  • Power Band: Sp. Defense
  • Power Anklet: Speed

I haven't been able to find an authoritative answer on how breeding mechanics work with Power items thrown in.

  • Without a Power item, 3 IVs (which may overlap) are passed down from the parents. If a parent is holding an Power item, are 3 additional random IVs still passed down from the parents, or does the Power item change this?
  • If both parents hold a Power item, are two IVs passed down, and how does this affect the random IVs passed down from parents? Although I've read some claims that they are both always passed down, I also read that the chance is only about 25% or so, can anyone confirm this one way or the other?

bobandbill May 20th, 2010 11:51 AM

^ Mrged with the Help thread as that's where questions are meant to go.

(I'm not sure but I think up to 3 IVs are passed down always power item or not?)

Route 11 is in Kanto, east of Vermillion City. You can't get there until after you beat the Elite Four.

anisa May 21st, 2010 7:54 PM

Unfortunately you can't buy them. If you go to Bulbapedia and search for "evolutionary stone" it has a list that tells you where you can get each type (this forum won't let me link to websites until I have 15 posts...)
(Note that before you get the national pokedex, you can only get sun stones from winning the bug catching contest, not the others)

Well, you can always get Munchlax from your Pokéwalker, assuming you have and use one. The Winner's Path event route currently being distributed has a Selfdestruct Munchlax, although it rarely appears. But if you're saying you'll only have 2 Pokémon the whole game, I'm guessing you're playing under some special rules?

I'm not entirely sure about all this, since I don't have a Burmy in my HG, but the Sand Cloak you can get by fighting in any cave, like probably Union Cave or Victory Road. As for the Trash Cloak...I've seen suggestions of Sprout Tower and the Mahogany Rocket Hideout...I can't check my game atm, but I assume the latter is still open? Or uh...ooo maybe a rematch with a Gym Leader, or one of those trainers in the Lighthouse? o.o Really wish I could try it myself right now...

Not playing under any special rules really. I'm just really picky with the type of pokemon i use. I just beat the steal user gym leader, but what i fear the most is going into fight the E4 with just 2 pokemon. By any chance do you have a Munchlax that's a male that you don't need? Does anybody know whether it's possible to breed moves onto Gallade? (Ralts initially to be evolved into Gallade)

If I remember correctly it is the male pokemon that passes moves down, I want a Gallade who knows Will-o-wisp but the only way to get it onto his moveset is through breeding, yet Gallade is only ever Male.

Is it possible to breed the move onto a female ralts and then breed it with a ditto or male ralts to pass it down to a male Ralts so I can get a Gallade with Will-o-wisp?

Thanks for any help

Trade Giratina over to HGSS, yes, theoretically it must be able to relearn Shadow Sneak. I tried similar methods before...

Breed a male Banette/Dusclops with Will-o-wisp with a female Ralts. Hatch a male offspring, which will have the egg move.

Males pass on egg moves.

It's always open to your own preference. Gyarados is a strong Water/Flying type, a good physical attacker, and a decent addition to any team. All you'd have to watch out for is the fact that a Gyarados trained from a lower level will statistically be stronger even if it is at the same level as yours, and that Gyarados has that nasty x4 weakness to Electric.

It's all up to you. :)

Damn x4 weakness to Electric type attacks!?!? Hmm i rather get one later on and train it the hard way. Got another question, I want to Ev train my Typhlosion later on in the game when i beat it and such. Now what i want to know is, by the time that i beat the game his going to be around the 60's. I would have to take the berry's that lower my stat and then start the Ev training, so lets say i want defense ev's I'm going to have to be fighting a ton of Geodudes, now there going to be giving me like +1 to defense each time i kill one. Meaning if i kill 510 Geodudes and i don't level will i still have all those Ev points?

You can get a max of 255 EVs in any one stat, with a max of 252 EVs making a difference. If you faint a bunch of exp-yielding Pokemon without levelling up, you have the EV points, but the stat changes don't happen until you level up.

Confused by what you mean there, but if you use the EV-reducing berries, you will be able to get all the Def. EVs you want. 510 is the max amount of EVs you can get, but you can only get 255 max in a single stat. Not to mention it takes 4 EVs to raise the stat by 1 point, so ideally, you'll aim for 252 at most...

Also, use Macho Brace (doubles EVs received) or Power Items (+4 EVs of a certain stat), as well as maybe Pokérus (doubles EVs received), to make EV-training faster. Finally, you won't see the effects of EV-training (meaning your actual stats won't change) until after you've leveled, so make sure to EV-train before reaching level 100.

Ah i see, so it's 252 per stat right? Now where can i get those berry's? I'm at the ice gym right now.

Alexeon May 22nd, 2010 10:01 AM

Without relying on trades or a Pokéwalker, you can only get 4 of the EV berries, and only by trading colored shards to the Juggler in Fuchsia City, which you haven't reached yet. I'd say don't concern yourself with EV-training until after you've beaten the Pokémon League.

Can you catch shiny pokemon on the Pokewalker?

just out of curiosity if it can be done. Also, ive notied an odd trend where all the pokemon Ive caught are Female. what's up with that?

i don't think pokemon captured in pokewalker would be shiny but if so that would be cool :D

Massage + Haircut = Beauty?

On Serebii, they say this about contest conditions:
http://i47.tinypic.com/r02ucx.jpg

And on Bulbapedia, this is what they say about Daisy:

Also returning from previous generations, Daisy, still located in her home of Pallet Town, will groom one of the player's Pokémon for free once daily between 3:00 and 4:00 PM. As in Generation II, it will raise a Pokémon's happiness greatly, however, it will also raise the Pokémon's Beauty stat. This is not displayed anywhere in-game, and the Pokémon must be seen from the point of view of Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum to notice. Despite this, Feebas whose Beauty is maxed out this way can evolve into Milotic, unlike in FireRed and LeafGreen, where the Beauty stat did not exist in any shape or form.

But for the Haircut Brothers, they mention nothing about them raising a Pokemon's Beauty stat.

So not only am I wondering if the Haircut Brothers really do raise a Pokemon's beauty stat when they do a trim, but also if they can, can I give a both a massage and a haircut and it would get 64 points in its Beauty stat, or 1/4th, since they said specifically you could give a Pokemon a massage OR a haircut and it would get 32 Points towards beauty or 1/8th?

Flare Riqueza May 23rd, 2010 11:52 AM

It'll add up.

So, it's 32 points + whatever a haircut gives.

Well, the pokemon are split into groups: A/B,C/D,E/F, and you randomly get selected 3 pokemon out of those 3 groups.

I think groups are gender specific. The Yellow Forest Pikachu are gender-specific to whether you get Surf or Fly

Quick Question: Is there any way to level up a Munchlax before level 17? I know you need friendship, but is there an item that can make it x2 faster? Thanks in advance.

A Soothe Bell makes your Pokemon like you 2x faster, it also helps if you caught it in a Luxury Ball.

Zelos Wilder May 23rd, 2010 1:34 PM

Do i have to battle with the Soothe Bell on him for it to work? Or can i just walk around with it and let it hold the Soothe Bell?

Mifune May 23rd, 2010 2:31 PM

Just walking around. If you have access to Cycling Road, just go up and down for a while, and you'll gain Happiness really fast.

Another thing to do is send the Poke to your PokeWalker, and while you're out for the day, just keep it in your pocket. The longer you walk around the more happiness you get. I put a Golbat in my PokeWalker, and went to school. When I got home and sent him back, he evolved into a Crobat when I leveled him up. ^^

Zelos Wilder May 23rd, 2010 6:14 PM

How do pokemon that need love and care take to evolve, is it in battle, outside of battle or both? Also is there a way to to teach a pokemon a Move that that he didn't learn before since he didn't evolve in time?

jigglyppuff8 May 23rd, 2010 6:26 PM

When Pokemon that require happiness to evolve happiness have enough happiness to evolve, they will evolve at the next level up. Doesn't matter if it was battle or Rare Candy.

As for your second question, I don't understand it completely, but you can reteach moves by using Heart Scales (obtained by using Rock Smash or at Pokeathlon) at the tutor house in Blackthorn City.

roamers nature and iv's

hi guys, sorry if there was already a thread about this but i used the search button and couldn't seem to find the thread I want.

so when are the nature and iv's for these roamers set? and I read on certain sites online that these roamers will respawn everytime you beat the elite 4. someone please confirm if that's true because i wonder if those were just pranks. if these roamers respawn you would think that serebii would have some information. and where do they respawn if they do?

thanks guys.

Macy123 May 23rd, 2010 7:05 PM

Can someone explain to me "EV training"? I understand the whole kill certain types of Pokemon to increase in a specific stat. But how do I know when to stop?
When can I STOP killing specific Pokemon in order to increase a certain stat? Because it gets really annoying if I'm a lvl 50 killing level 20ish Goldeens -_-''

Alexeon May 23rd, 2010 7:37 PM

Well it's based on just how much you personally would want to boost a certain stat. If you're just trying to max out a stat, though, 255 EVs is the max any stat can get, with 252 being the efficient place to stop, since it's 4 EVs for one stat point increase.

The total amount of EVs a Pokémon can get is 510. So in cases of maxing out two stats, you'd aim for 252 in one, 252 in another, and at least 4 in another stat just so it isn't a waste...

So at most 252 Goldeens if you want to max out Attack. Of course, you'll be better off speeding up the process by using an item like Macho Brace (doubles EVs) or a Power Item (Power Bracer for instance adds 4 Attack EVs upon what you gain from your kill), and perhaps Pokérus (which also doubles EVs). With all that, you can cut the amount of Goldeens (or w/e else you want to train on) to something in the double-digits.

If you feel you've maxed out with 510 EVs, you can check by getting the Effort Ribbon from the woman in Blackthorn City. Keep in mind that even after EV-training and getting all 510 EVs, you may not see any big changes, depending on what level you're at. The full effects of EV-training are seen at level 100.

Macy123 May 23rd, 2010 7:45 PM

I see.

So how do I know if it's maxed out? Any way to keep track of it? o.O
Also, what does it mean when...say, I try to use Protein on it and it says "has no effect"? Does that mean it has been maxed out?

If you recorded the IVs of your Pokémon beforehand, you can pretty much check by doing a little math with the IVs and the Pokémon's stats at level 100. Otherwise, there's no way to check how many EVs are in a particular stat, so it's important to keep track yourself, perhaps with paper to help. (really miss the Pokétch to help with this)

As for Proteins and other vitamins, they give 10 EVs each, but only work if that stat has less than 100 EVs already in it. If it has no effect, all that means is there's already 100 or more EVs in it, and it doesn't necessarily mean the stat is already maxed out.

Btw, although 252 is more efficient, it can be a lot of trouble to obsess over, and I personally don't mind just going all out to 255 sometimes. Up to you~ x_x

The thread you would have been searching for would have been the Help thread sticky at the top of the section which is where questions should be posted. =P

Anyways, I'm not sure whether it is true or not, although I have heard the same thing about it respawning if you beat the Elite Four... but someone else will have to confirm that. *merges with Help thread* As for when they are initially set, for Entei/Raikou it is when they are released, and Suicune when you actually battle it.

if we're able to find out the answer to this question it definitely deserves to be stickied in faq/known info.

it's a weird hobby of mine to capture pokemon(especially legendaries) with good natures... so knowing this helps a lot. the thing is i want to KO my raikou and entei so I can reset their natures but at the same time, if the respawn thing is a false rumor then i just lost myself 2 legendary pokemon to my pokedex.

You can teach it Ice Fang (very essential), Aqua Tail, Crunch (very important for gyms) Superpower or Hydro Pump. All the Moves mentioned above all learned by Totodile and it's evolutions also To get these moves faster, don't evolve your Totodile. I hope I helped you... :D

Natures are set before they start roaming. I know in Platinum you have to soft reset before you interact with Mesprit for the first time in order to get the nature you're looking for. Otherwise you'll always encounter the same natured Mesprit for the rest of the game. I can only assume that's how it's set in HG/SS as well. I'm not sure about IVs though.

Need a expert opinion, i started Ev training my Munchlax at level 1, and i started using macho brace at around level 16 he evolved at level 32 he is now level 35. I forgot to wright down how many Grimer i have killed but it has to be over 100. Does anyone know if i am done Ev training him for hp?

P.S At level 1 i was using exp share to give him hp ev's as well.

yes using daisy oaks massages 8 of them will max out your beauty
as for the pokemon like magnezone or probopass they are unobtainable and must be traded from a sinnoh game

It's actually easier to evolve Feebas in HG/SS than it is in the other games, although more time-consuming unless you abuse resetting your DS clock. You can't see the Beauty stat, but you can still raise it by getting massages from Daisy Oak in Pallet Town. This is easier since this method isn't influenced by what nature your Feebas has. I'm told you need 7 massages to have enough Beauty for Feebas to evolve...and 8 to max it out.

There's also debate on whether or not the haircuts in Goldenrod also raise Beauty, but more people say that it doesn't...so just massages~

There's no way to know for sure based on those numbers. I'd say just get another 50+ EVs just to be sure of yourself (which hopefully brings you up to the 255 max), or reset your EVs back down to 100 and try again.
