Well, keep trying?
It won't be labeled as Legendaries if it's caught so easily (Yus' I'mma looking at you Dialga and Palkia)

Amore July 28th, 2010 6:30 AM

Use Fast Balls.

Its' base speed is 100+, so Fast Balls have a high catch rate. I only used 9 on it when I caught it

K so i want to catch Ho-Oh on HG without the masterball... so what would you reccomend? What type of pokeball? Which pokemon? Sleep or paralyz? Right now i am using the pikachu colored pichu with endeavor (this works very well) and then constantly putting it to sleep with hypnosis from Gengar, but Gengar keeps fainting (its lv 47) and im using ultra balls (which isnt working well)... so what do you recommend?

Eye straining text. ;)

Anyway, my method was to wait until night time (in-game) and use Dusk Balls, which have a much greater catch rate overall, benefitted by night time.

No it's not.

To be honest no matter what you do it's not going to exceed a 5% chance by a whole lot. Just low health, Dusk Balls, and soft resetting should eventually get it.

SgtPatches July 28th, 2010 2:23 PM

This is going to sound completely newbish, but how do I find out my friendcode on SS?

JakeyBoy July 28th, 2010 2:25 PM

Get the Pal Pad from downstairs in a Pokecenter. Connect to the internet. Afterwards, look at your Pal Pad.

I have a level 22 poliwag and I taught it Icebeam. Does anyone know where to train it. I'm trying to use it in the battle for clair. She's tough to beat without an ice pokemon.

Route 45 is quite good when training for Clair, IMO. That's where I got my Gyarados (Ice Fang) ready for the challenge, by battling Geodude and Graveler.
But seeing as you said your Poli is level 22, you might find route 45 too high-levelled for training, so I guess route 44 would be a better candidate there.

HGSS lacks good training spots, really :|
You'll just have to make the most out of it.

shinyespeon1798 July 29th, 2010 12:56 PM

@ everyone - thanks, u rlly helped :-)... but should i paralyz or put to sleep? and ill use timer/dusk/fast/ultra balls. also i have another question... will there be a crown dogs event in america?

There is the Enigma Stone event starting on July 31st, ending August 27th. In this event you get an Enigma stone that you can take to the Pewter City Museum, and you will get Soul Dew, and one of the Lati's from it (depending on your version; Latios - HeartGold, Latias - SoulSilver).

Too bad I won't be able to participate. Because I'm still in the blackthorn city and training my poliworil to battle clair.

I think you should be able to go ahead and get it; the Enigma Stone will be recieved as a key item and you should be able to get the Soul Dew when you get to Pewter.

You can still get it. The Enigma Stone is only a Key Item that won't get used until you reach Pewter City. But you can still get it so long as you have a Pokedex. It's the item, not the Pokemon, so you can get the event whenever you want.

You mean what events have been/will be released for HG/SS?

Right here. It shows the one released outside of Japan and the ones that have been Japan-only so far.

kakarot July 30th, 2010 2:45 AM

I have a Shaymin that I think may be a fake, I have taken it to the Flower shop in Goldenrod but nothing happens.

I know the flower transforms Shaymin from 5am to 7pm but can I get the flower any time?

Dooney July 30th, 2010 5:01 AM

Save File

Right, last night in my SoulSilver game (English) I was going to have the Tag battle with my rival. I entered Dragon's Den and saved the game, I then proceeded to battle and then lost, so I turned the game off by the switch and left it for the night.

A few minutes ago I went back to it and got a blue screen with the message "The save file will be erased due to corruption or damage."

I've tried getting dust or anything out of the DS and the game card, but there's nothing. I've also tried a different DS but get the same message.

...Help? http://www.pokecommunity.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Hope this is int he right place, if not can someone kindly move it?

shinyespeon1798 July 30th, 2010 6:10 AM

will there be a crown dogs event in the us?

bobandbill July 30th, 2010 6:31 AM

Going to move to the Help thread, as that's where questions should go. Although note if it is a fake game (rom'd and all) then such things are more likely to happen and there's little one can do with that.

Maybe you hit the game or something when you put the ds down? =/ Does it actually erase or just display the message? Don't think you can really do anything short of cleaning it again and all... =/

Amore July 30th, 2010 10:36 AM

@ ShinyEspeon1798:

Basically, yes. Or no. Or "who knows, not even gamefreak". Except they probably do.

There have been no official announcements about the Crown Beasts outside of Japan, and no leaks from any "official sources". So, while there may be an event, there is no confirmation of that, and currently there isn't one.

JakeyBoy July 30th, 2010 11:43 AM

Nope. Needs trading into a Sinnoh game.

Nope, completely legit SoulSilver, bought it from Tesco.

It just displays "The save file will be erased due to corruption or damage." on a blue screen every time then when you press A it starts where a new game starts with a question about info on the game (I haven't started a new game just incase it's a random problem).

Is it a Fateful Encounter Shaymin? That's the only stipulation needed to get the flower.

And yes, you can get the flower at any time.

The water routes between Olivine and Cianwood might be the best way to go, since it's all Water Pokemon around that level.

Wait, is this not the problem when you switch off during a save, and it has to load the backup save? That gives a message similar to that. I'm not going to advise you to go on and delete it just yet, but that's possibly the only course of action.

ltsang July 30th, 2010 2:15 PM

I was wondering. Does gamestop have any more give aways like the jiraji one? If so does anyone know where to look.

Astinus July 30th, 2010 2:35 PM

Right now, no. The last one was the Jirachi one. Currently, most events are released over Wi-Fi, which means that you don't have to enter the store to get the Pokemon. You just need to get online with your DS.

The list of all events for HG/SS is here.

And if you can open it, then the list of released and soon-to-be-released events are announced here.

You could check GameStop's website for any announcements, but that's only if the event happens in their store. Like I said, most events are over Wi-Fi, which GameStop has no part in.

As far as I can tell, there are currently no events being held at GameStop. However, there is a Wi-Fi event going on right now for the Enigma Stone. This event will allow you to capture one of the [email protected] depending on your version. You can read more about it here.

Reminder

Currently, there have been a few "thank you" posts being made here. This is just a friendly reminder to those who are asking question that a thank you post is not required after your question has been answered. Actually, if you read the first post of this thread, you'll note under the rules that they aren't allowed. Basically, they just clutter the thread with unnecessary posts and we really don't want that. :(

If you must give a thank you, you are allowed to do so by either personally VMing/PMing the answerer or just saying thank you in the same post as your question.

do EVs for a stat max at exactly 252?
or is it possible to get a little too much and end up hindering the stats slightly?

Amore July 31st, 2010 2:38 AM

You can get 255 in each stat. Sadly, 3 are wasted, so generally people only use 252, then stick 4 in a 3rd stat

ltsang July 31st, 2010 6:44 PM

I was wondering is there anyway to get the leaf evee and the ice evee in soul silver. I don't know the name because I didn't play the other new ones. I also wanted to know how to get espon and umbreon. I got them both in the silver but I used the gameshark on it. I raised it with rare candies and vitamins and stuff like that. Now that I want to try to do it without it. Does anyone know how and how to make evee happy during the day and night? What is your secrets? Let me know. Thanks.

Edit: Also I'm not ready to face lugia yet? Because lugia is at level 44 and all my pokemon is below it. I want to know where to train them? Here are the pokemon and the levels:

Pidgeotto level 15
Ampharos level 36
Milktank level 37
Blazkien level 39 (got from a friend at a combusken stage.)
poliwhirl level 45.

I only got 5 pokemon. The 6th pokemon is a furret with hm moves.

Astinus July 31st, 2010 8:52 PM

Eevee can only be evolved to Glaceon and Leafeon in D/P/Pt. To raise happiness in HG/SS, give it the Soothe Bell, give it haircuts with the Haircut Brothers in Goldenrod Underground. You can still give Vitamins (they do add two points to the total happiness). Then, once Eevee's happiness is raised high enough, battle with it during the day to achieve Espeon and during the night to achieve Umbreon.

I'm not really sure on a good strategy to battle Lugia because I haven't in years, but...

As for your Pokemon, I personally suggest raising them up more so they can survive any hits from Lugia. Just don't raise their levels too high, because you don't want to knock out Lugia. I'd also suggest getting a Pokemon that can put Lugia to sleep/paralyze it to make it easier to catch. And stock up on Ultra Balls since you're not using your Master Ball, apparently.

Arolu August 1st, 2010 2:32 AM

I have two questions of which I would be grateful if they could be answered; Firstly, I'm having much trouble catching Entei. I've got his HP very low and he's asleep but, he constantly flees and all the Dusk Balls and Ultra Balls I have thrown have had no effect... Has anyone got a good strategy on how I can catch Entei, succesfully?

My second question is about my team; I'm at Mahogany Town going up to the Lake of Rage Event and the Pokemon in my team are at Level 40. I just want to know if this is a good or bad level fro my Pokemon to be at (going to the seventh Gym) and if I should train them any more.

I hope you can help.
:)

ltsang August 1st, 2010 4:16 AM

Get a pokemon with mean look like umbreon or gastly. And that will stop in its tracks. I've heard other players use it, but I have never use it myself.

Edit: Also, are there any Japanese players here? I need help reading something. Pm me if you are. What's a soothe bell and where do I find it?

Weavile05 August 1st, 2010 7:51 AM

You can start to EV train a team without get Kanto's badges.
You just need your National Dex and a Daycare if you want to breed too.

If you're somehow able to get a Wobbuffet or perhaps a Trapinch onto your game, then they will help tremendously in keeping him still, at least until he wakes up and uses roar. This was you don't have to waste a turn using Mean Look. Though if you don't have the former, what the other person suggested will help as well.

Level 40 sounds good, considering I wasn't at that level during that time myself. =3=; I was a bit lower.

Yes, it knows Roar. Which means you should probably see about putting it to sleep.

Soothe Bell is a Hold Item that you can give a Pokemon. When held, it help raises happiness faster by giving one additional point to each happiness-raising event. (For example, walking raises happiness by one point per step. With the Soothe Bell, it's two points each step.)

To get it, go to the National Park. All the way in the upper-right corner (as if you're going to Ecruteak) look around the fence surrounding the National Park. There should be a hole in the fence. Go through it, and follow the path right and down. The Soothe Bell is hidden in a corner.

I was training my evee in the grass. All of the sudden my evee picked up a shiny leaf. Then after a while it asked me if I want to contain it and I say no. Then later evee put it on itself. what does the shiny leaf mean? My evee right now is at level 17 I think. Please let me know.

Astinus August 1st, 2010 5:59 PM

A shiny leaf really doesn't do anything important. They're an item you can find on routes in the game, and they depend on your Pokemon's personality plus the route you're on. When a Pokemon finds one, it shows on the Pokemon's status screen. If you talk to your friend (Lyra or Ethan), they'll request that you bring them a Pokemon with five Shiny Leaves attached to them. When you do so, you get a star on your trainer's card and your Pokemon get the Leaf Crown (which again does nothing important).

Here's an article on Shiny Leaves, which also tells you where you can find them according to what nature your Pokemon has.

fridgetheman August 1st, 2010 8:30 PM

Ok, so i give my lv 1 adamant beldum 10 proteins, next level, atk raises by 2. shouldn't it raise by, umm, idono, like 25?

Neither of them are there on monday. They're in the underground every day except monday.
One way I just learned to get more haircuts is after you get your haircut of the day, set the time on your ds to 23:59, let the day turn over, and then get a haircut. Then save, set the ds clock to 23:59 again, get haircut, save, repeat.

Do Rock smash for shard.
Trade the shard for berries in Fushia City.
After, plant the berry to make other.

I used 10 ultra balls to catch lugia. and 2 level balls. Then I finally caught it. I haven't tried to catch ho oh yet. I want to though. I would save your mb and trade it away for something good or something you want. Like a tm or something.

What is the likelyhood of Cubones and Marowaks in Rock Tunnell holding Thick Clubs?

Also, if I use Theif on one of them when they're holding it (without my Pokemon holding an item) will the Pokemon that used it be holding a Thick Club? That method just sounds a lot easier than catching every one I see :P

It's about 5% chance to find one holding a thick club. One strategy I developed is: have a pokemon with compound eyes in the 1st slot of you party, fainted. Then in the 2nd slot, have a pokemon with frisk ability. Then you can switch in your thief/trick pokemon and get it.

Global trade station.

Hey, i recently purchased pokemon heart gold and a ds..
I played for a while, got to goldenrod and though i'd try out this so called 'gts'
and i didn't think it would be as useless as it was..

Every time i searched for a pokemon people were offering that particular pokemon, but they'd want like a level 100 mew, jirachi, starters etc..
Mind you i was searching for a level 1-9 growlithe and sneasal.
My question is, is the gts a joke?
Does no one offer a growlithe or sneasal for something obtainable at my point in the game or something? And who would trade a mew for a growlithe...

Amore August 3rd, 2010 3:16 PM

Yeah, it's all totally pathetic.

Look in the Trade Corner in these forums. People are a lot more reasonable.

Are These Berries Legit?

Okay well you know those berries mom gives you that weaken 2x Attacks, well I gave a Haban berry (For Super-Effective Dragon Typ Attacks) to my Kingdra to fight Lance. And I'm just wondering. How well do they work. For Example will A Dragon Rush, Draco meteor, etc from one of Lance's Dragonite's OHKO a Lv. 50 non-EV trained Kingdra holding a Haban berry?

Dabestile August 3rd, 2010 5:47 PM

Hey guys, I need a little help on deciding what I should do with my game

Currently I'm attempting to beat the Elite 4 second time around, and Lance is completely dominiating my pokemon.

My team is

Lv. 53 Ho-oh
Lv. 56 Feraligatr
Lv. 50 Magneton
Lv. 47 Umbreon
Lv. 49 Kadabra
Lv. 50 Snorlax/Hm slave

Obviously my team is very underlevelled compared to the Elite 4, so I've been thinking about starting again and having a core team of 4 pokemon (Typhlosion, Umbreon, Lapras and another??) and the other 2 can be legendaries or HM slaves. Does this seem like a good idea to you?

If not, are there any places I can train to get my pokemon's levels up? Whenever I try to train at the Elite 4 Will kinda completely destroys my team, which leads me to having to have to use loads of revives etc. which I just dont have the money for anymore

So basically, should I restart my team? If not, where can I train?

Also, any suggestions for a in-game team? The only real reason I'm playing anymore is because I'm determined to beat Red. And another thing you should know is that I'm extremely impatient so if I were to restart I'd probably just blast through the game.

Perriechu August 3rd, 2010 5:47 PM

No Probably not... they weaken the attack by half so you'll survive... Lance's pokemon arnt Ev'd either

Do you have any suggestions where I can train, then?

If you finished the game. You can rebattle the gym leaders. Here I'll send you a link: http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/gym-rematch.shtml

Planetes. August 3rd, 2010 6:25 PM

@daebastile, If you are training Dragons or Ghosts pre Pokemon League go to route 47 and go up the waterfall and you will meet ditto's which are easy to kill and give around 1000 exp (if in non ditto form), also if you have Platinum/DP, send it over there with an exp share and fight the elite four or the gym leader remataches and comrades, your trainee gets 2000 exp per Pokemon

Dabestile August 3rd, 2010 6:39 PM

Are there any other ways I can train that are a bit easier? I don't want it to be too hard (e.g. Level 60 Pokemon)

Dabestile August 3rd, 2010 6:54 PM

Alright thank you :D Do you think I should train my Feraligatr to 60 first and then the rest or make all my pokemon equal levels and then cycling inbetween them to get them raised at the same time? What would be quicker?

EDIT : Do you also think my team is advanced enough to go after pokemon like Mewtwo and Lugia (I have heartgold)?

Dabestile August 3rd, 2010 7:28 PM

Great, thank you so much =] I just wanted to ask 2 more questions..

1. Where is a place I could find pokemon level 55-60?

2. What did you use your masterball on? I used it on Latias so I wanted to know if it was a good use or not?

Amore August 3rd, 2010 11:31 PM

Masterball is just for whatever, preferably a legendary. There's no "wrong" one to catch with it. Although I caught Ho-oh with mine, I associate Masterball as "Mewtwo Ball".

No, there aren't that strong pokemon, sorry. In Mount Silver you can find Steelix (Around Moltres) and Donphan (Everywhere) which are really strong and give you experience. All you need is a Special Attack and they'll go down, luckily.

Dabestile August 4th, 2010 12:54 AM

With my previously mentioned team, would a Snorlax be better or a Kadabra? (I can't trade since my wifi doesn't work)

OK, i'm having a serious problem with my pokemon levels in SoulSilver.I've literally just entered the team rocket hideout in Mahogany town and my pokemon are at stupdly low levels.
This is my current team

Quilava - lvl 29
Tentacruel - lvl 29
Crobat - lvl 29
Flaffy - lvl 28

Anyone know a good place to train up pokemon on SoulSilver, seeing as there's no way near as many trainers as there was in the fourth gen ...

I tend to surf the waters near the Daycare Centre or near the Safari Zone. They are usually teaming with Pokemon that give a strong amount of Experience Points. I would suggest you get your team to around Level 40 (as that's the Level mine were and they done good in the Rocket Hideout).

Hope this helped. :)

Guys, what dates is Diamond Dust known to fall on? I really, really want to battle Red in Diamond Dust, rather than hail....

ltsang August 4th, 2010 10:35 AM

I caught a wild pidgeotto a while back. It was at level 15 and now it is at level 16. I don't know where to train my pokemon. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Sydian August 4th, 2010 10:38 AM

You can train anywhere, really. Where are you in the game?

Also, I'm looking for a Venonat. They are in National Park, right? Maybe I'm just having bad luck...but I can't find one. Do they only appear during the Bug Catching Contest or...?

Amore August 4th, 2010 10:45 AM

They appear more commonly on Route 43, at night-time. They have an encounter rate of 15% compared to the Bug-Catching Contest's 10%.

However, in the Bug Catching Contest, post-E4 they don't appear on Saturdays

ltsang August 4th, 2010 1:13 PM

I'm about to face the elite 4. Before I do that I want to level my pokemon up.

Edit: Also I went to the ruins of alpha I couldn't find a single fossil. I want to find one and I don't know where. I saw cave there. I'm having trouble to get inside of it. Does anyone else know how to go inside of it. Also so far I caught 5 different unknowns so far. What will happen if you catch them all? Please let me know.

furry August 4th, 2010 4:11 PM

Can't get on the GTS :(

Well I received a Shaymin from someone I talk to online, and I wanted to trade it for a Celibi, my friend gave me a Celibi and i traded it back so i could offer for it in the GTS, when i put it up for offer all was going fine but then when i went later to check the summary, i get a message saying "Communication error has occurred press A to return to the title screen"

Now I'm new to all this online trading stuff but I've seen people asking if Pokémon are hacked or not, if the Pokémon I received was hacked is that most likely the cause of this problem?

Eurydice August 4th, 2010 4:17 PM

no if u get that message it just means that either u moved to far away from the router or it just had a connection problem

i am pretty sure that if u get a hacked pokemon it wont do anything to your game. i have had some traded to me (which ticked me off) and nothing happens.

Well i can get on anything else that's Wifi related but if i click summary it starts loading then gives me that message.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ August 4th, 2010 4:52 PM

I know that back in the days of D/P, you couldn't trade event Pokemon - anything caught in a Cherish Ball - over the GTS. That might still be true for HG/SS - they use the same system, after all. It's weird that it's kicking you off though; usually it just tells you that "This Pokemon cannot be traded on the GTS" or something to that effect.

ltsang August 4th, 2010 8:00 PM

I have a question. What is the difference between a gts pokemon and a non gts pokemon? I want know. Also how can I get it? I think my question is a noob. Sorry if I am. I've been out of pokemon for so long. My newest game I played was pokemon diamond on a rom then soul silver. In diamond I couldn't even beat the elite 4 and then I fed up with it. I'm planning on getting pokemon platnium. Could I trade soul silver pokemon to platnium or no? Please let me know. Thanks.

Yes you can trade HG/SS to D/P/Pt. A Pokemon you get from the GTS is most likely hacked (as everyone uses AR and puts up their pokemon to get another Pokemon immediately), but you may get lucky and actually get a legit Pokemon. I have no clue as to what you mean by "non GTS" lol.

What is the best place to train Pokémon for the E4?
Victory road isn't too good, because Gravelers and Onixes dont give enough EXP...

I would suggest a sea route as I find Tentacruel and Tentacool give a healthy amount of Experience Points. That said, I mainly stick to the Route south of Blackthorn City...

Amore August 5th, 2010 2:55 AM

Oh, uhh....Route 47 is good aswell. You need Waterfall, they're all in the 40s, Fearow and Miltank give decent exp. and if I'm right, when Ditto uses Transform, it automatically gains the base exp. gain of your pokemon, so if you have a Dragonite....you get a lot of exp. as if you just defeated a Dragonite. I may be wrong, however.

I guess your Pokemon doesn't hav max happiness is all. Either that or it isn't at the start of your party. (I doubt it's a case of her only ever giving out one either...)

Shinies are rare - no specific place for them, just luck. And the usual chance is 1/8192 of a Pokemon being shiny bar the red gyarados/special breeding (and even then it's 1/2048 iirc).

ltsang August 5th, 2010 5:35 AM

I have another question. The first time when you battle the elite 4, what level are they?

A New Era of Corruption August 5th, 2010 7:53 AM

Place to train for Kimono Girls?

I'm having some trouble defeating the Kimono Girls mostly because I cannot find a good place to train and my pokemon are level 34 to level 35. My party is:

Scyther, lvl 35
Haunter, lvl 34
Dragonair, lvl 35
Growlithe, lvl 35
Kadabra, lvl 34
Gyarados, lvl 35

I also have a level 41 Entei but my original team was my "dream team" sort of haha and I didn't really want to replace any pokemon.

Where are good places to train for the Kimono Girls? I know about that patch of grass above the waterfall near Safari but I fight those pokemon and only get like 300 exp?

Help please and thanks

Nope, I took my Typh to the haircut brother afew days ago and didn't put him on my PC ever since. I also tried with some other Pokemon caught in Friend Balls. Nothing.

I guess I need to research. For now, I'll give up on that !

Well one (or even a few) haircuts isn't going to be neecssarily enough, same with friend balls.

ltsang August 5th, 2010 1:31 PM

Ok something weird happen. Today I went to trade my poliwrath with a friend and try to evolve it into a politoad. It didn't work. She said it only evolves when you have a poliworl. So am I F***** up! Please let me know. I wanted a politoad. Darn. So I have start over with an poliwag. Darn.

Amore August 5th, 2010 1:58 PM

Yes. Poliwrath doesn't evolve into Politoed.

Don't worry, you're not the only one to make that mistake, the dude with a Poliwrath in Celadon City out of Fr/Lg is in Hg/Ss wondering whether his Poliwrath will "evolve into a frog pokemon one day", implying he wants a Politoed too.

celebi72 August 6th, 2010 1:58 PM

Really, Really...hmmm...Anoyed

Ok, I'm at the 4th Gym (Morty) on Soul Silver. Anyway, my team is all the starters, A Pigeotto and a Flaaffy. All lv 20. I Need a spot to train and fast because my team is really low on levels because of the fact i'm trainin 5 pokemon early in the game. I think their needs to be more in game trainers. Btw, My team is gonna be a great team, its just theres no where to train. DAMN YOU MORTY, DAMN YOU!

So please if you know a good trainin spot around Ecruteak City, say! thanx in advance, Celebi72

Amore August 6th, 2010 3:10 PM

Mount Mortar. Pretty good for Totodile and Chikorita.

Mareep and Cyndaquil can use their high special attacks to beat lots of Koffing in Burned Tower, and I guess Pidgeotto could dispose of the Rattata/Raticate
