Pre-Ho-oh Training help!
I suck. Well, at training at least. I beat Clair, and am now ready to battle the Kimono sisters. Problem is, I can't beat them! I'm a great battler, but lack training skills. I've beaten every trainer, and battle a lot of wild Pokemon, but i always end up around -10 levels around the elite four.
So, I need help. I've decided (As no other pokemon I have will work) to take a dratini under my wing. I've actually gotten it to around my level. Here's my team: Dratini Lvl:28 Magmortar: Lvl 32 Ampharos: Lvl 35 Golem Lvl: 33 Maganium Lvl: 36 Pidgeotto: Lvl 34 So what I need is to know: A) What should I do right now to get stronger? Don't say anything about EV, because I've already trained a bit, and I'm not looking into that right now B) What can I do to overall become a better at training? I want to know, not only through regular gameplay, but also after the game. In platinum, I constantly get bored when training any Pokemon. Help? |
Lol. Uhhh..I tend to have the t.v. on whilst I do it. Have the volume on so you can hear everything, in an area where it's easy to run around in long grass, and you can train pretty fast.
I trained up to lv.50 from lv.30 outside the Safari Zone.... Still, everybody has their differences. If you could get somebody to give you a Lucky Egg, that'd double experience gain |
I want to know something. How long does it take you to charge up your nintendo ds, dsi, or lite. I have a nintendo lite and my charge 1/2 a day. Is this normal. O.o
Edit: I also looking for an ice type pokemon. Will Swinub or jynx will be good. I don't like articuno. It has a lot of weakness. |
If you can evolve Swinub, which shouldn't be that hard for you to do, it's a pretty good attacker. I haven't had much experience with Jynx so I can't help you in that aspect, but Swinub is definitely a good choice.

I ended up using a Vaporeon with a couple Ice moves. That worked out really well against the Blackstone gym and all its dragons. |
I don't like water pokemon that knows ice move. The attacks are not enough. Icebeam is just plan boring. Well I'm facing lt surge now. I'm having trouble with the puzzle. I unlock it, but when I push the other side of it and it locks it back. Darn.
|
Jynx is fine if you teach it moves like icebeam and Blizzard. Plus it's pretty fast, in fact it's base speed is higher than Dragonite's.
|
Hey guys, more trouble on my side
I'm currently facing the elite 4 for the second time, and I can do fairly well with the 4, but Lance's Salamence sweeps through my whole team ¬¬ I can barely get a hit in, it's too fast. So I've been trying to decide on my pokemon team for a while, now. What I have so far is.. Feraligatr Ho-oh Magneton The last 3 slots can be taken up by any of the following pokemon.. Dragonite, Snorlax, Latias, Kadabra, Lapras, Suicine, Starmie Which of these 3 should I include in my team? I need at least 1 psychic and one that could kill Lance and his team. |
For the one to kill lance and his team, I would go with Lapras.
As for the psychic, why not Alakazam? Then I would just have the Snorlax for some Raw Power, but Dragonite would do pretty well in there too. |

Hi, i would like to know what does CMT means? I've seen this word in many forums and all the time i thought it was 'Comment' but it seems that i'm wrong

Anyway, the HG/SS Help Thread isn't for questions about online abbreviations/acronyms or anything other than help on HeartGold and SoulSilver. So, please only ask or answer questions here if they are related to HG/SS, thank you. If you do have any questions, concerns or suggestions about the forums though, then I'd like to direct you to the Community Questions & Feedback forum we have available. |
I'm looking for a flying pokemon. What kind you yall use in your party? I would use golbat, but it doesn't have enough poison moves. It only knows poison fang. Let me know. Thanks.
|
crobat ends up being worth it imo
|
If you evolve golbat to crobat and use a heart scale you can teach it cross poison. Plus after you beat team rocket go to that toll booth thing on the way to the lake of rage and talk to the guy to get sludge bomb, and you can teach that to Crobat.
If you can get to Mt. Silver, you can get Natu, I've never used it but it's pretty good. If you can get to the Safari Zone, then Murkrow is an option. If you can get to Blackthorn then you can get Skarmory if you have SS. If you have HG, you can get gligar, but the best flying attack it learns is Aerial ace, and it can't learn Fly at all. Other than that, there's the main legendaries, Fearow, Pidgey, Charizard (if you've beaten red or got a member of the charmander family off of GTS or something) Dragonite (from extremespeed dratini or Voltorb flip prize) and I think that's enough suggestions. |
Quote:
I can't evolve Kadabra into Alakazam because I don't have anyone to trade with. Can anyone suggest a moveset for a Lapras and a Dragonite? Ingame, ofc, so I like to sweep. |
Quote:
As for Lapras, in game, most movesets work. I would recommend Ice Beam and Surf as they gain STAB and Thunderbolt also works for other Water types. Honestly, it's up to you. |
Anyone got any ideas where I could find Heart Scales?
|
Would Lapras outspeed Salamance?
|
Quote:
Now for mai question. Does anyone know where the Dark Pulse TM is? |
Lapras won't outspeed Salamence, no. However, you could use Ice Shard to get a priority hit there.
Dark Pulse - Find it in Victory Road, or, surprisingly, buy it in Celadon Department Store! I'm glad you asked, as I never knew that! |
Quote:
=D I did try Serebii but they don't say where the TM's are... |
Quote:
|
But would Ice Shard OHKO Salamance?
|
Not if you were sent out into Salamence's Intimidate.....and you'd need a +Attack nature and lots of Attack EVs (stuff it full of Protein).
My advice: Make it bulky, teach it Ice Beam. Good chance it's a 2 hit knock out. |
yeah, even better if it freezes it.
|
I recently trying to catch entei. I've been following it around with my pidgeotto and then when I look at my map again it vanished. My entei's health has a red indicator and it is asleep. So I was wondering how do you get entei to show up on your map again. Then when I turn my game back on it still vanished.
|
If it's vanished then it is probably in the same route as you (or, if applicable, Raikou). I suppose it could also be somewhere that your map wasn't showing, as Johto is now so big you need scroll to see the routes by the Safari Zone. Oh wait, the part I was thinking of is actually Kanto.
Alternatively you killed it and didn't notice. |
I didn't kill it. The entei is back up. Ok something weird happen. Right now I'm on route 13 and I'm fighting a guy with a pikachu on its back. The suddenly I saw a level 65 magikarp. Is it possible to have a level 65 magikarp. I killed the magikarp with my haunter that is level 44 using shadow ball. A month ago that live guy recently gave away free pokemon. I made a request for free shiny dogs. Few days later I receive 3 legendary dogs that are Japanese and it shiny too. Is it possible to have a Japanese legendary dogs and it is shiny. I read on the forum that one guy got a hacked kingdra from him. Ever since then I haven't heard from him or he hasn't post online. I think I got hacked. Thanks.
|
That's normal. There is in fact a Pokefan with a level 65 Magikarp on Route 13. I have no idea what you say after that, though there is an event that gives you three shiny dogs.
Spoiler:
|
Is there proof. But my shiny dogs doesn't have an English name for it. The names are in Japanese. The level is around 30. There it makes more sense now.
|
|
What HMs do you need in order to get into Cerulean Cave?
Also, which legendary should I use my masterball on, if any? (If not I'll save it for the first shiny pokemon I find in the wild) Latios Mewtwo Raikou Entei Zapdos Articuno Moltres |
Quote:
|
K thanks, anyone for the masterball dilemma?
|
I didn't have any trouble catching any of the legendaries in the game (except Latios, who is still uncaught). If anything, use it on a roaming Pokemon. No point using it on a Pokemon that doesn't move around (I caught Rayquaza, Mewtwo, and Ho-Oh in Pokeballs). That, or just keep it for a shiny, or use it on the last legendary you're going to catch.
|
In a double battle, if you have two Pokemon who know Stealth rock, can you set up two stealth rocks at once from the two Pokemon?
|
Quote:
Just use it on the legends who flee since most people have trouble with those more than the stationary legends. Quote:
|
Yeah, I'll probably use it on Raikou if my Dusk Balls fail, cuz it won't be caught in an Ultra Ball. I cought Entei in an Ultra Ball already. I haven't even tried catching Latios yet. I'll try though to save my MasterBall for the first wild shiny I find. If it happens to be one of the legendaries, so be it.
Is there anywhere I can buy Seals in the game? Quote:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi. I arrived at petwer city. I went to the museum there and it took my enimea stone for a check up. Then few seconds later he gave me a soul something. Then latias pops up out side of the museum. I was trying to catch latais (female) all night. I couldn't. I weaken it until it has the red indicator on the health bar. Then I tried using sleep powder and thunder wave on it and it didn't for. Some I almost had it but it didn't stay in there. So how long does it takes yall to catch it? Let me know what kind of balls to use. I brought 33 ultra balls and 11 great ball and some aparicorn balls. Well I'm clueless now. I also tried poison it with gengar's poison jab, but it didn't work. I need some help. Thanks |
Just keep trying, maybe you'll get lucky, it didn't take me very long to catch it at all.
If you have High level pokemon, the level ball will work good. Or if you wait till night you can use dusk balls. Love balls will work if you are using a male pokemon. If all of these fail, use the timer ball, after using all of these, of course |
@ Weaville05
don't use the masterball on anything pokemon. Use wobbetfet on the fleeing legendies. Trust me wobba works. I used a lv 22 one on latios and the dogs and don't use the masterball on shinies because my bro caught a couple shinies without using a masterball. |
I wouldn't suggest poisoning it. Otherwise, that might kill it from poison damage. Paralyzing is my choice of status to inflict, because I find that it strikes more Pokemon than sleep does.
I second the suggestion of False Swipe (take a look here to see which Pokemon can learn it) and Pokemon that can handle Latias's hits. Otherwise, your Pokemon will just get knocked down from it attacking. Also, buy a lot of Ultra/Great/Poke balls and have a wide variety of the apricorn balls. You'll never know exactly which one will work. Quote:
|
Yes I argee astunis. :) Paralzyis is great status mood then use wobbetfet to put the hp down and then the ablity shadow tag (wobbetfet again) and catch the fleeing pokemon with ultra balls, great balls, poke balls whatever you wanna use
|
yeah but if it uses roar it can still run.

Just a quicky question. whats the earliest place for a ryhorn to appear in SS?

Quote:
Safari Zone, in the Savannah areas, I believe. I would like to ask how you obtain the third starter set in your Pokedex, in SS. Obviously you have one set (for instance Chikorita) and your rival has the other (eg. Cyndaquil), but can you only acquire the third set in the pokedex from trading or is there some other way? |
Trades only. Don't think any trainers have them, unless I'm mistaking them for the Kanto starters.
|
Oh dear, that sucks. Well, thankyou for the answer anyway :D now I see the benefit of just buying both of the games!
|
I'm trying to face blaine for a vocano badge and I'm training my poliwril right now and I need help. My poliworl level is 44. I couldn't beat him. THanks
|
How can I migrate pokemon from my pokemon Emerald onto SoulSilver, is there like a pal park I can go to or something?
|
Go to the old Kanto Safari Zone. It's been converted into a Pal Park.

I want to teach Ninetales Hypnosis and Energy Ball but they're both Egg Moves I've read, and I don't really get the concept but if I get a male Smeargle to Sketch Energy Ball and Hypnosis off some Pokémon then breed with a Ninetales/Vulpix to get a Vulpix w/ those moves?
Also, I'd appreciate if someone could tell me which Pokémon Smeargle could sketch Hypnosis and Energy Ball off if that's the case. Thanks :) I want to teach Ninetales Hypnosis and Energy Ball but they're both Egg Moves I've read, and I don't really get the concept but do I get a male Smeargle to Sketch Energy Ball and Hypnosis off some Pokémon then breed with a Ninetales/Vulpix to get a Vulpix w/ those moves? Your Ninetales/Vulpix must be female, but the baby, regardless of gender, should inherit both moves. And I don't use Smeargle heavily for breeding, but using Sketch should work to get the moves to your baby Pokemon.
Drowzee, Stantler, Ralts, Gastly, Hoothoot , and their respective evolutions (if any) are among those who learn Hypnosis. Treecko, Lotad, Shaymin, Lileep, and their respective evolutions (if any) learn Energy Ball naturally. You can also use TM53. Here's the trick: You need to enter into an ingame Double Battle to Sketch the moves from your other Pokemon. It won't work in a link or wi-fi battle. There are only two Double Battle trainers that can be rematched via PokeGear in HG/SS: Tim & Sue on Route 13 and Kay & Tia on Route 15. Challenge either of them to a rematch, then have Smeargle sketch the desired moves on the first turn of the battle. Since you have two moves you want Sketched, I'd advise rematching twice, doing one move per battle. I hope this isn't too confusing, but these games really have a roundabout way of taking advantage of Sketch:/ |
Hey guys, another question here
I want to start EV training my pokemon, but I've got a few questions.. 1. How would I know if I've hit the max 255 limit on a stat? Will it tell me when I level up? 2. When I level a pokemon, will the EV changes take place there or will they grow continuously as I battle? 3. Where can I find the berries that reduce unwanted EVs in a pokemon? Thanks in advance |
Quote:
2) The EV changes appear when your pokemon level up. That is why you can't EV train Lv 100 pokemon. 3) Find Shard and trade them for berry in Fushia City(Koga's daughter gym city). |
I'm going to evolve my poliwirl to a politoad after I get it to learn hydro pump. Also I haven't fight ericka yet.
edit: Also I'm trying to catch the hoenn and sinnohn pokemon. What do I need to get them? I already got the expansion radio from the old man in lavendaer town. Today is wed and I want to catch some. |
You simply go onto a Route, and turn on the Radio to the right Station. Then, just walk around in the grass/cave/whatever, and eventually you'll find a Sinnoh or Hoenn Pokemon, depending on the day you're searching. The Hoenn/Sinnoh Pokemon you find depends on the terrain you're in. For example, Plusle and Minun can be found in the grassy area, while Absol can be found like cave (like Mt. Moon).

Where can I find the Shards needed for the berries? Also, another quick question, could I EV train my pokemon at a low level, and then use a load of rare candies to get them up to level 100? Or is it better for me to EV train while I level them? |
Yeah, you can EV train at any level, except 100 (obviously high 90s is inadvisable, as they may level up).
Shards are found by smashing Rocks, uhh...everywhere. I like the Ruins of Alph. |
Tell me if this question is nooby, but I've been trying to send a Yellow Forest Wondercard from my SoulSilver to my HeartGold, and I haven't been able to do so. Anyone know if I'm doing something wrong, or...?
|
No event wondercards can be shared besides the japanese secret key event in platinum even though there is a option for sharing its not useable for any event
|
There is a small cave in the ruins of alpha in soul silver. Does anyone know how to get in there? If so please let me know. Thanks.
|
Are you talking about the one with the four items and unown text on the floor? If so, solve all the unown puzzles, and you must take a specific action in each of the caves with puzzles. They are hinted by the writing on the panels in the back of these four caves.
One says Light: use Flash One says Escape: use an Escape Rope One says Ho-oh: have Ho-oh in the front of your party One says Water (I think, I've never been in this one, it just makes sense): Have a water stone in your inventory. This will open up a cave somewhere in the ruins (not sure where) that contains four items and Unown markings on the floor. |
If you're on about the ones that can't even be reached by Surfing....go to Union Cave. Go down the stairs to the north, and head north. You'll pass two hikers, and you have two options. Go one way to one cave, a psychic, and an area to find wild Natu, go to the other, and you can reach the final room.

Where is the best spot to train before red? i'm not even in the Kanto yet in SS(i started again) but in my other save i didnt train properly.pLz help, Celebi72
Also does Soft Reseting ALWAYS wORK? b-cuz i'm Trying to Soft reset the XTREME SPEED Dratini. No luck so far |
Quote:
I don't know about your second question but for the first I found that rebottling gym leaders was the easiest way. All you have to do is constantly reset your ds time and date to get all of their phone numbers the reset the time and date to call them and rematch. Then what I did was used only one of my pokemon to battle the whole team of the gym leader. |
I need help. I'm currently training my ivysaur into a venasaur and I don't know what moves it should learn so far it learns Take down, leaf storm, energy ball, and solar beam. The ability is powers up grass type moves in a pinch. I'll tell you the set it want. Here is set one: Razor leaf, sludge bomb, solar beam and double edge. Sigh. I just don't know what to teach it. Venasaur has too many good moves. Its better than meganium.
|
So, you know it, but you don't?
My favourite set is this: - Leaf Storm - Leech Seed - Poisonpowder - Protect Give it Leftovers. First turn, Leaf Storm to take out their 1st pokemon 2nd pokemon, use Leech Seed + Poisonpowder + Protect/Leaf Storm. Just stall them out, not actually doing much damage after 3 Leaf Storms. |
I don't like to stall. Its plain boring with no battles. I want it to attack and kill it right away. Also what level is red when you battle him? I haven't beat him yet. I'm planning to after I get my pokemon in the 70 or 80's.
|
Venusaur really isn't built for physical attacking, since its Attack stat is base 80 and Special Attack is base 100.
The main question I have for you is if this Venusaur is going to be used in competitive play. If it is, then it requires a lot more planning. If you're just going to use Venusaur in the game, then really, the attack set you have is fine. Anything really is. Personally, I'd choose Razor Leaf over Solar Beam so I can attack quicker, and use Sleep Powder (in case I need help catching a Pokemon). As for Red, his strongest Pokemon is at level 88 (Pikachu) and the weakest is at level 80 (Lapras). Quote:

You have no idea how long I was soft resetting to get the correct answers because I didn't realise you needed to have less than six Pokemon with you :S |
Help! Freezing Problems!
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes.
This is not a ROM! This is a legit Soul Silver bought at Gamestop! This only happens in the Pal Pad, whenever I try to go to page 3 the game freezes, I've gotten to page 4 by tapping the button a the top, but no matter what I do I can't access page three. The game will freeze before it scrolls over, but the arrow on the right (or left for page 4) will turn white. I get the feeling that if I delete a page full of entries page 2 will become frozen and not three. Does anyone know any fixes? |
Just a patented glitch.
Have you hacked the game? That might be the reason. (If you did) |

Anyhow, the answers to get the Dratini are: Quote:

What's teh best ball to use for catching latias? It eludes me more...
I'm catching it for a friend who recently lost theirs :). |
Quote:
Try a scizor with false swipe and you can also paralyze it with some other pokemon. |
Or, a more serious answer:
- If it's on HeartGold, and it's roaming: Fast Ball, Quick Ball, or if you trap it, do it at night with Dusk Balls, and if it lasts for a very long time, Timer Balls. - If it's on SoulSilver and it's stationary, just Fast Balls (it has base 110 speed), Dusk Balls (do it at night), Timer Balls. But the idea about False Swipe (Scizor is brilliant due to it's massive attack stat and resistance to Latias' moves), and paralysis, is very sound advice. If it's roaming, you'll need something that can either outspeed to use Mean Look, or has a trapping ability (Dugtrio can learn False Swipe, so get one with Arena Trap). However, you need to keep your trapper alive at all times. |
Hey, ummm, ever since i bought HeartGold i never got bored of it until about a month ago, and i just don't know what to do now :/ i've done everything... Like, i could train my pokémon and battle online but i just don't see the point... Like, i need motivation... :/

No way will you manage, sorry.
Red's team: Pikachu lv.88 Lapras lv.80 Venusaur,Blastoise,Charizard lv.83 Snorlax lv.85 I may be slightly wrong, but they're all between Pikachu and Lapras' levels, which I definitely got right. |
No lol, you obviously need more training, Red's pokemon are level 80-88. Snorlax can easily thrash you, train more.

Also, I don't know who's FC it is, if I did I would go on Wi-Fi with them and that would probably fix it. (Or crash my game, either of the two.) EDIT: I forgot to mention the music stays on. |
Ok so I'm actually going to need some help catching Ho-Oh. First attempt it actually killed itself while Struggling, 2nd attempt I ran out of every type of Pokeball I had. In both instances I had it critical hp (almost no health) and Paralyzed. This is the Pre-elite 4 Ho-Oh in Heart Gold that is level 45, and yes I know you can defeat it at this point and come back after the Elite 4, but I want to capture it now. Also I do not want to use my Master Ball on it.
First off does it matter what my own Pokemon levels are in relation to the Ho-oh? Like if I'm higher level than it will it be more likely to be caught? Even still I left the Bell tower and raised up my team a bit more this is what it looks like: Magnezone lv.40 Poliwrath lv.40 Arcanine lv. 38 Heracross lv. 39 Alakazam lv. 39 Mamoswine lv. 38 my strategy I use Thunder Wave right off the bat to get it Paralyzed, as it usually tries to get Sunny Day up first. Magnezone doesn't last too long after that, but I weaken it that best I can... I then switch to Arcanine who resists all Ho-Oh's fire attacks with it's Flash Fire ability... i generally can PP waste it pretty good while weakening it... when it runs out of Fire moves that leaves it with Extrasensory and Sunny Day as all that is left so I ussually switch to Alakazam and start Calm Minding up to maybe +5 sp. def... it can't kill me as I just recover off any damage... while chucking all the Ultras I have.... and it still won't be caught ussually breaking out right away. I mean I have a lv 70 Zapdos I got in a trade from a friend... I can bring it along if it will help having a higher lv Pokemon to increase the catch rate... but I was hoping I wouldn't have to use that Pokemon.... |
http://www.smogon.com/dp/moves/false_swipe : a list of pokemon that learn false swipe. Paralysis is good. Sounds like you need timer balls, but I wouldn't recommend it based on the fact that it'll hurt your pride if you don't use premier balls. (I had 160 when I faced Ho-oh from SS, I had to soft-reset thrice because of struggle.)
|
Quote:
But really, you can try to use whatever Poke ball you'd like. Some people have more luck with Poke/Premier, while others go for Ultra, and others go for the specialty ones. Sp try a variety of ones. |
When you first find mewtwo at the cerulan cave it is level 70 right. If I'm not mistaken.
|
yes it is. Also, bring a dark type pokemon along. Mewtwo can't lay a scratch on those.

Is there a bug in Safari Zone Link?
Hi everyone, this is my first post, so I hope it's in the right place.
Months ago, in Heart Gold, I set up the necessary blocks (10 Forest + 18 Rock) in Meadow to get Riolu. Like most people (and all the advice I've found on the 'net), I gave up waiting and GTS'd a Lucario after I'd seen one in the Elite 4 post Red. I just left the blocks sitting there. I'm now playing Soul Silver, and decided to use the Safari Zone Link to get into the Heart Gold Safari Zone. It work fine at first; I got Spheal, Solrock, Torkoal, and in Meadow there were plenty of Nosepass and Nuzleaf showing that there were the right blocks there for Riolu. (And the blocks had been set up for well over 70 days – since 24 April). But I've spent literally hours traipsing around the Meadow Zone and not seen a single Riolu! So the question is: has anyone actually seen a Riolu in the Safari Zone? Or has everyone just traded theirs? Everyone knows that there can be bugs in games (even Pokemon!) so is this one of them? Is it a problem with the Safari Zone Link rather than the Zone itself? Or is it just that the encounter rate for Riolu is insanely low? Any help gratefully received. |
Check this out:
http://serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/safarizone.shtml This says 10 Forest Objects and 14 Peak Objects in the Meadow |
Is there a bug in Safari Zone Link?
Yeah, I know I've put in more peak/rock than necessary, but that's never been a problem before.
|
The peak and rocks have to be put for more than 70 days in the meadow to allow you to encounter one riolu. The number in serebii is the minimum requirement that you have to get. If you have done them right then you should have no problem unless you are not lucky enough to meet one. I tried to spend 5 hours to meet the first beldum in safari zone. So maybe luck matters or your day counts in safari has been messed up during the period.
|
I want to know something. I went across mt silver and I haven't find a single heart scale. Does anyone know where is a good place for heart scale hunting? I need it for my meganium. So I can replace a move.
