Try smashing rocks in: Cianwood City, Dark Cave, Kanto Route 19, Rock Tunnel, Vermillion City, Victory Road (Kanto), and Tohjo Falls cave. Though just be aware that it isn't always a guarantee that you'll find a Heart Scale under the rocks you smash there. You might find other items, wild Pokemon, or nothing.

If you have a Pokemon with Pickup that's over level 51, you can bring it around with you, and it might pick up a Heart Scale then. But that's a low percentage.

There's also the chance to buy one for 1000 points at the Pokéthalon Dome on Wednesdays and Sundays.

But your best bet is to use Rock Smash in those areas I first listed over and over again, and see what you can get that way.

ltsang August 17th, 2010 5:29 AM

Last night I went to the seaform island on a search for an articuno. I couldn't find it. Instead I found a icebeam tm. Does anyone know where to find a good map of articuno?

Zerrah. August 17th, 2010 5:39 AM

I'm in the process of training an Umbreon for a friend of mine, and he wants it to know Baton Pass and Faint Attack. Both are learned at level 36. In order to get both moves, should I level it up as an Eevee, evolve it and use a Heart Scale? Or evolve it, get Faint Attack, and use a Heart Scale? Or is either way effective?

grey-beard August 17th, 2010 5:51 AM

Heart Scale

I've found the best place is the Pokewalker in Beautiful Beach. If you've done over 2000 steps they're about 1 in 5 of the items. I got several that way.

Amore August 17th, 2010 5:56 AM

An evolved pokemon can't re-learn it's pre-evolution's level-up moves when the original pokemon never levelled up high enough to have the opportunity.

So, level Eevee to lv.36, teach it Baton Pass, evolve it, use a Heart Scale to get Faint Attack

Green man August 17th, 2010 8:15 AM

I placed a bunch of peak objects on the peak to get a Lairon. Then I searched in the grass for one, but keep seeing geodudes and magnetons. Do I have to leave the 'zone and come back? Or are lairon just really hard to find.

Also, since there are 25 objects placed, can I get Trapinch at the desert, or do the peak blocks need to be placed at the desert?

Have you gotten all 16 Badges?

Amore August 17th, 2010 9:51 AM

You can get Articuno without all the badges. I had 8 when I got it.

So, that's not his problem.

He just needs to look harder.

Astinus August 17th, 2010 12:43 PM

@ltsang: Agreeing with the advice of Amore. You really just need to keep exploring the Seafoam Islands. Solve all the ice puzzles, go down every ladder, surf over every piece of water. I can't find a good map for you, so that's really the only advice I can give.

@Green Man: Lairion's supposedly common, so don't know why you would have problems finding it. Again, just keep looking?

And you'll need to put those Peak objects in the Desert in order to find Trapinch.

jammi567 August 17th, 2010 12:50 PM

I've got a question.

I currently have a Togetic, and I want to evolve it into a Togekiss. I also have the Official Strategy Guide (yeah, laugh at me, I know how bad they are), and it says that you can get a Shiny stone by getting 1st Place. Yet, I can't seem to get one. I've tried at least 10 times so far, but no luck.

Basically, am I just really unlucky, or do I have to wait until I can use Rock Climb?

Edit: I'm in Kanto, and thus have the National Dex. I don't know if that makes much of a difference.

There are 9 stones you can get, so not getting the one you want in only 10 tries isn't very unlucky...

But if you want a couple of tips:
  • Save just before you talk to the man, if you don't get the stone you want, reset and try again - it's random, not pre-determined by the day.
  • To ensure you win use a Pokemon with sleep and a nice high Def/HP. Don't waste balls on anything till you find a Pinsir, then put it to sleep and keep throwing balls. It will always win if you don't lower its HP.

Lil Lee Harvey August 17th, 2010 3:13 PM

I'm trying for a shiny Moltres, and I'm just wondering. How do people get them???

I saved before the fight and I'm just soft resetting every time it's not shiny... which has been every time. Will it become shiny this way?

The odds of encountering a Shiny Pokemon are 1/8,192...

so it's like rolling a Die, with 8,192 sides to it.

Nugg August 18th, 2010 2:21 AM

I may sound like a noob but, what are the routes that Suicune goes to before I can encounter it?

Mew~ August 18th, 2010 5:30 AM

Do you have to beat the elite 4 and champion in emerald before I can transfer my pokemon to my SS with the pal park feature?

rndm. August 18th, 2010 5:37 AM

@Nugg
Johto:
-Cianwood City
-Outside Mt. Mortar, middle of Route 42
Kanto:
-Vermillion City
-Route 14
And finally, you can catch it at route 25. If you accidentally defeat it, beat the Elite Four and go to the basement of Burned Tower. Suicune will reappear there.

@Mew~
No. All you have to do is have at least 6 pokemon in Emerald.

AuraGaurdian August 18th, 2010 7:26 AM

Shiny leaf?

not sure if its stupid to not know this but here it goes while walking with my newly hatched riolu and while walking through grass I turn around and talk to my friend to find out that he has found something called a shiny leaf and now whenever I look at his summary I see a little icon of a sparkly golden leaf at the bottom of his summary with the words shiny leaf beside it. could someone plez tell me wat this means?

Amore August 18th, 2010 7:56 AM

Well, you can find them on your pokemon on certain routes, depending on their nature.

Once you get five, you can go to Lyra/Ethan's house, and s/he will make you a "Leaf Crown", give you a certificate and 1 star on your trainer card.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Shiny_Leaf

See this for more details ;)

Hey guys, I need help finding a space filler for my team (in sig). Just wondering if you have any good ideas, yeah?

ltsang August 19th, 2010 7:49 AM

I recently trying to complete my unknown dex. So far I caught 9 different kinds. What other kinds am I missing so far? Does anyone know? Let me know. thanks.

JakeyBoy August 19th, 2010 8:00 AM

Probably the kinds that you don't have. We couldn't possibly know only you can. Personally I put them alphabetically in a box for ease of checking this, but you can find out what kinds are registered in the "forms" section of it's Pokedex entry.

They're in the forms of the alphabet. A through Z, with the ! and ? forms. If you want to know what each form looks like, this page has them all listed. So just check that list, see which ones you're missing, and then continue to explore the Ruins to find them.

JakeyBoy August 19th, 2010 1:47 PM

WEP is a different encryption type from WPA2, and pre-DSi DSes don't support it. You should look up how to change the encryption for your router on Google.

Can't help but sense this might be a question for Wifi Center or C&T, but it's not likely to be a problem.

Dialga812 August 19th, 2010 3:49 PM

i have a question for my pokewalker... well does pokewalker level up your pokemon just like the daycare?..like does it replace the move of your pokemon when it reach a certain level? thanks in advance x]

ltsang August 19th, 2010 6:18 PM

I wonder is there a pokemon contest in soul silver. Because I haven't been able to find one. I know there is one on the old silver. If so what pokemon are good for it.

Christopher August 19th, 2010 6:33 PM

there is not a contest in SS or in silver as I can recall.

The Pokewalker works exactly like the Daycare, minus the breeding. Your Pokemon gains one point of experience for every step you take. The only difference is that the Pokewalker doesn't allow moves to be taught to Pokemon. The move is simply skipped when the Pokemon levels up, and the only way to get the move back is with Heart Scales.

Contests were replaced with the Pokéathelon outside Goldenrod City. Pokéathalons are games of skills for Pokemon, with five categories: Speed, Power, Stamina, Skill, and Jump. All Pokemon have different strengths in each category, so it really depends on what game you're going for.

Contests were introduced in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, so I don't know what Contest in Silver you're thinking of.

Are you thinking of the Bug Catching Contest? Because there aren't any RSE or DPPt Styled contests in these games. The Bug Catching Contest's on at the National Park (North of Goldenrod) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. You talk to the attendant standing by the door to the entrance of the park to enter.

Hi, ppl I'm new to the forums. I have a quick question: Is there a way to get Mew? i heard u have to bring the beasts and mewtwo to the embedded tower and bring the beasts and mewtwo to mt moon when the clefairy are dancing? is there a way to get it or not?

Nup, the only way to get it is through an event

but you can trade for it or hack it.

Machop. Machop is the main answer to your problems. What you'll have to watch out for is Attract, but you should be good. Especially if you raise Machop's level high enough.

What you can also do is start off the battle against Miltank with Air Bus and use Sand-Attack until Miltank's accuracy can't go any lower. That'll make Rollout hit less. Then, if your Machop is strong enough, it can beat Miltank's Speed and knock it out quickly. Machop was the Pokemon I used in the battle, and it worked beautifully.

Right now, the only way to get Mew is with a Wi-Fi event for HG/SS that hasn't been released outside Japan yet. Other than that, it's either with a previous event for FR/LG, by trading with someone who has it, or by cheating by hacking Mew into your game.

But there's no way to get it involving the Legendary Beasts and Mewtwo brought to Mt. Moon.

Could be in the GTS building in Goldenrod, is my guess?

ltsang August 21st, 2010 5:26 AM

I thought I remember there is a contest where you can show off your pokemon moves such for example like morning sun. Then at the end they total the amount of points you have.

Also I'm planning on training a dragonair into a dragonite. Do you know what moves I should teach it? Here is my set of moves fly, Dragon rush, Dragon dance and outrage. I need help.

I think you can do that in the E4 Building.

An Imperialist named Dak August 21st, 2010 6:35 AM

So when i got pokerus on my starter, i put it in the box to keep pokerus. I havent taken it out since then but when i looked at it again, it said it was cured even though i havent touched it since it got it. A similar thing is happening in my Emerald version. When i take the infected Pokemon out to spread, the first battle i get into, it immediately becomes cured and no Pokemon get infected. Whats going on?

Well, you can check it in the E4 building right next to the colloseum.

I think Pokerus stays as long as it's in the box, but if 12:00 passes while it's in the box, Pokerus will go away if you take it out. If you need Pokerus for EV training, your Starter and anything else that had Pokerus keep the effect.

I don't recall that at all. More information about what you remember? Because I've played through Silver twice and read a Let's Play of Crystal many times, and don't remember seeing anything like that.

In-game? That's a good set. I'd be careful playing with Outrage because of the confusion status.

Personally, I love the Thunderbolt/Ice Beam/Fire Blast or Flamethrower/Dragon-type attack move set. It's an amazing set that covers a lot of bases. That's my recommendation.

JakeyBoy August 21st, 2010 2:39 PM

So I decided "to hell with Red, I'll use some overpowered stuff from trades and hacks to beat him". Did that, and am currently in the Embedded Tower with my good pal Kyogre. Question is, would the Embedded Tower count as a cave? I thought it would, but from the looks of it Dusk Balls aren't helping much. In saying that, I get the feeling my better Ultra Ball trys were flukes.

EDIT: Caught him with Heavy's, but still curious.

TwilightBlade August 21st, 2010 2:47 PM

Although Embedded Tower is considered a cave, a Heavy ball is more efficient for Kyogre.

The game will freeze before it scrolls over, but the arrow on the right (or left for page 4) will turn white. I get the feeling that if I delete a page full of entries page 2 will become frozen and not three.
Does anyone know any fixes?

I hate to re-iterate things, but this is still a problem for me. Obviously I'm having a problem with a glitchy FC on the second page, but I have no idea what to do about it.
Also, I don't know who's FC it is, if I did I would go on Wi-Fi with them and that would probably fix it. (Or crash my game, either of the two.)

EDIT: I forgot to mention the music stays on.

I found a fix. When you finish a trade or something it'll ask you to add the friend to your Pal Pad, and if your registry is full, it'll let you delete any one of the 32 names already registered on the Pal Pad. I deleted random names I didn't want off of pages 3-4 and the problem was gone.

right now, when any pokemon that is in the pokewalker can only grow 1 lvl. if it's at the point that the pokemon where to learn a move, it won't. unless you have TM of the move that will know, it will not know that move at all. that is one of the disadvantages of the pokewalker

Ok about my dragonite I'm planning on doing the attacks that Astinus said. I'm planning on teaching it fly, thunderbolt, ice beam and flame thrower. If I do that who should I take out so I won't have to waste space. The following pokemons I got are amphros, meganium, houndoom, gengar, primeape. My idea is to take out amphros and houndoom and replace it with something else.

Also I want to know what level is the karate masters pokemon. Because I'm trianing my primeape to beat him with my pokemon. I'm doing hand to hand combat. And where to find him.

The Karate King, Kiyo, is the leader of the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City. In Gold, Silver, and Crystal, he has gone to Mt. Mortar to train. In order to find him, the player must use the center entrance which offers access to water, then Surf ahead and climb a Waterfall. Then they must make their way to the bottom of the cave, where they will eventually find him waiting to be challenged. Kiyo uses a Hitmonchan and a Hitmonlee, and once they are defeated, he will give the player a Tyrogue as a reward. However, if the player does not have an empty slot in their party, Kiyo will tell them to make room for it, then come back.

both of his pokemon are lvl 34

Go to the Copycat's house, she will be missing her clefairy dude. Go to the Pokemon Fan Club, talk to that guy as soon as you walk in, he will say he found a Clefairy doll. You tell him there is a girl who is missing a Clefairy doll, and he will tell you to go give the doll to her. As soon as you exit the Fan Club, Steven will come up and tell you about [email protected] Now go give the Clefairy doll to Copycat and now go check Silph co.

Yes, its kind of random. You have a chnace of 1/8192 to get a shiny wild pokemon. People sometimes just save in front of a legendary and then soft reset hunderds of times just hoping to get a shiny one. xD

suggestion on evolution - Vileplume vs Bellossom!

Hey. So, I go for a walk in the safari zone and, lo and behold, I find a shiny oddish! I catch it and do a quick run-down of its stats, and find it has decent stats to boot! Now I want to train this little thing, but one small detail remains...

I'm wondering, what would be the better evolution here? Should I go for a Vileplume, or a Bellossom? Any comments would be greatly appreciated! If you could give reasons for a particular choice, that would be excellent!

(P.S. I'm not 100% sure where this thread should go, so hopefully I got it right! If not, well I can handle having it blocked.)

Danke, Merci and all that!

Impo August 22nd, 2010 4:19 AM

personally i like bellossom,
but vileplume is a better special attacker

depends what you use it for really :P

bobandbill August 22nd, 2010 4:37 AM

Figure since you're asking for advice on it I've merged the thread with the Help thread sticky.

If it has good stats and you figure you might go into competitive battling check out its nature and what ones are considered good ones to have for either Pokemon I suggest - otherwise just go for which one you like better I suppose if you don't care for that sort of thing. Check out the shiny sprites for the two as well. ;p

Safari zone waiting time

Hey guys, ive been playing soul silver pretty much since its UK release and i've only just decided to pay attention to the safari zone.
I have access to all the blocks and have been experimenting using seribiis guide but there are some pokemon im after that i just dont have the time to get such as trapinch. I was wondering if anyone knew of a method that could greatly speed up the time it takes to get the pokemon you have to wait 30 days. Perhaps there is a method editing the ds clock?

bobandbill August 22nd, 2010 5:08 AM

I'm not sure about the DS clock method actually working with the safari zone... never tried myself. I guess I'll merge with the Help thread then so someone who has tried it can answer. =p

Besides that though there is no way to speed it up. Also note that it's x number of days since you've unlocked the area with the Pokemon in it, not days since you've set up blocks iirc.

trust me, everyone who has played the safari game is so annoyed about the long wait time. but, unfortunately changing the ds clock does not change it.

Let's me analyse it for you...

By stats:
Vileplume is an offensive one. When it come for battling it is obvious that Vileplume is much more better choice.

Bellossom is a defensive one. If you want someone to do supporting for you in battle then Bellossom is more an ideal choice.

In my case I would go for Vileplume, I just love it... And usually I'd go for offensive Pokemon.

hello, can you please explain to me why are EVs important? i know that they are gained by experience, but why does it matter?

they determine how your stats grow and are vital to a WiFi Team

Does anyone know why Whitney's Miltank was able to use stomp on my Gastly? I thought stomp was a normal type... ...

One of Miltank's abilities is Scrappy, which has the effect of allowing Normal-type attacks to hit Ghost-type foes.

Klinny August 22nd, 2010 11:21 PM

Stomp is indeed a Normal type move, but Miltank is can have the "Scrappy" ability. This ability allows the Miltank to hit Ghost Pokemon with Normal attacks.

Edit: Whoops, was beaten to it! ^-^;

Lady Nicole August 23rd, 2010 3:59 AM

Oh, I see... LOL! I thought it had changed type or something. Thanks blaQk and Klinny for answering :D

Also does Soft Reseting ALWAYS wORK? b-cuz i'm Trying to Soft reset the XTREME SPEED Dratini. No luck so far

You can verse your rival on Mondays? right before you go into door to elite four, um you can beat the elite four a couples time (I highly don't reccomend that though) or you just verse pokemon the wild or trainers. I don't that much after those four things. You can extremespeed dratini from clairs granfather if you say the right answers... xD

the only way initiate the clefairy event at mt. moon, you have to be at mt. moon square anytime between monday night at 8 PM and tuesday 4 AM. even though all the clefairy runs away when one of the four sees you, but you can get a moon stone by breaking the rock that the clefairy is dancing around. the only places where you can catch a clefairy is mt. moon (in the cave where they will be lvl 8 and have an 8% spawn rate) and the safari zone.

as for the mr. mime jr., the only way ti get him is by breeding a mr. mime while holding an odd incense, this will allow you to get a mime jr., when it hatches from the egg

You can battle your Rival on Mondays and Wednesdays. Also, if you have the patience to wait for a chansey swarm, catch a bunch of Chansey hoping for a lucky egg. That will boost the Exp you get equal to if it was a traded pokemon. So traded Pokemon holding lucky eggs will get alot of exp.

Lucky eggs give exp? If only if I knew before.... xD

Weavile05 August 23rd, 2010 7:19 AM

The pokemon actually has to battle for the lucky egg boost though

ltsang August 23rd, 2010 7:48 AM

I'm tyring to get an egg of a mr mine. What kind of item is it?

Weavile05 August 23rd, 2010 8:07 AM

If the parent holds an odd insence, you get mime jr., but if nothing is held, you get Mr. mime.

Yup, u can see it before when prof shows you the 3 pokeballs. Save just before u go and talk to him.

What is the "Union Room"?

Maybe wrong thred but anyway. Could someone explain shortly for me what the Union Room is for me? I don't really get about it.

Indeed. Just as long as you saved before you chose the Pokemon, you'll be fine.

Union Room is where players who can connect meet with one another. You can do a variety of interactions with one another, like trade, battle, mix records, and even just talk to one another. This page has the basics of what the Union Room is and what can happen in one.

I have level 51 houndoom and I'm planning on using it against the mewtwo. But I'm having a difficult time training him. Which gym leader should I battle? Houndoom is half dark and half fire. Please help me. Thanks

Amore August 24th, 2010 12:54 PM

Bugsy, Erika, Sabrina, Jasmine. Although watch out for the latter two, they may/will run water and rock-types.

Weavile05 August 24th, 2010 12:58 PM

If you are using Houndoom, then you do not need to train it because Mewtwo's only attacking move is Psychic type, meaning it can't touch you.

A level 50 won't even bruise a level 70. The fact that he's using Houndoom suggests he is already aware of the Dark immunity.

FYI, I'd take it to the league and shove an Exp Share on it, AND keep it at the top of the party using the switch-out trick. In fact, Houndoom alone should do pretty well against just the first E4 Member.

Weavile05 August 24th, 2010 1:11 PM

Honestly, that might be better if it can't hurt it too much. I've seen on here somewhere that somebody caught a Mewtwo with a level 46 Sneasel. Trust me, it's possible.

What is the best all around Pokemon to you guys?

I am using Feraligatr and Compared to my old Typlosion at the same lvl on my Gold Version, my old Typ. totally dominates compared to my Fer.

What moves should a lvl 70 Fer. know to fight against mostly all types of pokemon?

I am thinking of resetting and picking the Typ. to see how it compares.. I have already beat the game in the second day of playing, but I still think it should have been a tad quicker on some Gyms.

What can I breed the Typ. with to get some good moves also? and when I breed it what lvl will the Pokemon be? lvl 1?

Also, I am still a mega noob to how to trade and what not, how do I get Charmander, Bulbasaur and all them oldies on my HG version???

A Sneasel could know Beat-Up and use the attack stat of the other Pokemon in the party. With it's own moves it would probably run out of PP way too quickly.

But I dunno, maybe you're right. In fact, maybe later I'll take out a level 50 Sneasel, go for Mewtwo and see what happens.

Amore August 24th, 2010 1:47 PM

It will be lv.1

Typhlosion is a special attacker, so...

breed it to know Extrasensory (from Vulpix/Ninetales or Nuzleaf/Shiftry).

Then teach it hidden power. Soft reset for either Grass or Rock.

Get a tm for Focus Blast.

Then you just need to teach if Flamethrower/Fire Blast/Eruption/Overheat and you've got the moveset for a competitive pokemon.

Of course, you need IVs.....and competitive ones don't usually run Extrasensory, it's just a neat Hg/Ss exclusive :D

So, in summary, you will need:

- TM52 Focus Blast
- Female Cyndaquil or evolution
- Male Vulpix/Nuzleaf or evolution knowing Extrasensory
- TM10 Hidden Power

Get a Modest nature, definitely. And that would be my ideal Typhlosion.

__________________________________________________________

On Feraligatr, you should have Waterfall/Ice Punch/Superpower/Crunch

Earthquake and Dragon Claw are options, but the above set is pretty good. Hits, for super-effective:

Ghost, Psychic, Fire, Ground, Rock, Normal, Steel, Ice, Dark, Dragon, Flying, Grass.

12 out of 17 types. Obviously, not many pokemon are pure-typed.....but it still gives monstrous coverage.

You have two choices, you can trade (either over the GTS or with a friend) or you can use the Pal Park and transfer your Pokes from FR/LG/R/S/E.

Cerulean Cave, same place it was in Gen 1 and 3. You have to have beaten Red though.

HalfFrozen August 24th, 2010 1:57 PM

Hmm, I see, Okay well I bought a hacked Emerald version from EB Games 2 weeks ago and it has 200 Master Balls in the Ball Pocket, is there a way to transfer all those in batches of x99 or do I have to make a pokemon hold them individually?

Incorrect. I captured mine beforehand, even using it to defeat him. You just need all 16 badges.

Individually. Good luck on that one, mate. Go hunt down all the legends and 100 Feebas....you could get lots of trades for the ever-rare Feebas....

Emerald Game play sucks compared to the style I like.

Amore August 24th, 2010 2:13 PM

Why buy it? :P

But yes, individual items can be transferred attached to pokemon. Sadly, there's no specific item transfer method, as they made Pal Park as a mini-game, not like Time Capsule. However there weren't Gen I items anyway..

I personally think the only problems are the level,
level them around 45-55 (the higher the better, obviously)
I suggest you to evolve your Haunter as well!!

PokeTrainer Rob August 24th, 2010 8:47 PM

I'm sure it's the same for every game but since I'm getting SS I thought it'd be best to ask here. My question is how many letters do you get to name your rival?

You can name your rival only seven letters, that includes symbol as well...

I had my Typlosion at lvl 56ish and was able to defeat the entire E4 with him and 2-3 fillers to regain full health.
