Can I breed a male machamp with a metagross that knows bullet punch and teach it to machop

No. Machamp and Metagross aren't in the same egg group. In order to do that, breed a Humanshape egg group Pokemon that knows Bullet Punch (like Hitmonchan) with a female Machop.

ltsang September 20th, 2010 5:34 AM

Another thing is that I'm trying to get me a hitomchan, but I end up getting hitmontop every time. Any tips.

Imma assume you're doing this via Tyrogue.

Train your Tyrogue to level 19. Then feed it a load of Irons so that its defense stat is higher than its attack one. When it reaches level 20 it should evolve into Hitmonchan.

http://veekun.com/dex/pokemon/tyrogue

what that link will tell you is this:

- if tyrogue's attack is lower than its defense at level 20, it'll evolve into hitmonlee. (atk < def @ lv20 = hitmonlee)

- if tyrogue's attack is the same as its defense at level 20, it'll evolve into hitmonchan. (atk = def @ lv20 = hitmonchan)

- if tyrogue's attack is higher than its defense at level 20, it'll evolve into hitmontop. (atk > def @ lv20 = hitmonlee)

hope this helps :)

you seem to be right, bulbapedia says that too. I think veekun is a fanmade site, so that must be why it was wrong

Two simple questions for someone to answer please:

1. Where do I get the ticket for the Magnet Train?

2. I've read that once you've beaten Red on Mt. Silver (Which I have), you can get a 3rd gen starter somewhere. Is this true and if so, where do I get it?

Cheers in advance.

u get the magnet train ticket by going to the copycat girl's house in saffron city (on the second floor), she will say that she lost her clefairy doll in vermillion. then go to the pokemon fan club in vermillion city and talk to the guys who has the doll. he will give you the doll saying that he doesn't like seeing little girls cry. take the doll back to the copycat girl in saffron and she will give you the ticket.
NOTE: you can only take the magnet train after you solved the crime at the power plant!

it is true that after you have beaten red, you can get a starter from any other gen (except for the diamond/pearl/platinum series). you get a 3rd gen starter from Steven in the Silph Co. in saffron city. he should be next to the service desk.

hope this helps!

Hewitt September 21st, 2010 5:13 AM

cheers for that, I'll look later, though I tried the Silph Co thing yesterday and only saw the security guard by the lift and the woman behind the desk.

Is there a certain day or time you need to do this?

You can do it at any time of the day.

Mimikyu402 September 21st, 2010 5:14 PM

After beating red you must first pick up the kanto starter from oak before you can get the hoenn one from steven also make sure you met steven outside the pokeclub in vermillion after you gt the pokedoll from a guy in there

I got tired of training water pokemon. Its too easy to win against rock types. I want to know if is steel type pokemon good against rock types. And rock and ground type good against fire. If so I'm planning on getting a scizor with bullet punch. How do I get it? Will metagross and scizor do to get a scyther to know to know bullet punch.

To answer both your questions: yes (Steel Pokemon are strong against Rock Pokemon; Rock and Ground Pokemon are strong against Fire Pokemon).

ltsang September 21st, 2010 6:47 PM

How about the breeding question? will scizor and metagross breed. Since they're both steel types, but scizor is half steel and half grass types.

Astinus September 21st, 2010 7:07 PM

Scizor is part of the Bug Egg Group, and Metagross is part of the Mineral Egg Group. They will not breed together.

Christopher September 21st, 2010 7:15 PM

@Ltsang I think you might benefit from this site as it is a quick guide to egg moves and breeding. Hope it helps.

there is no other bug group breeder who knows bullet punch.

POKEMON THAT CAN LEARN BULLET PUNCH AND THEIR EGG GROUPS:

http://veekun.com/dex/moves/bullet%20punch
(scroll to bottom)

you say you have a scizor already. you can do one of the following:
- use the scizor you have. if it doesn't know bullet punch then go to the move tutor and teach it
- get a baby by breeding with another bug group pokemon. again, you'll have to go to the tutor to get bullet punch.
---scizor does not learn the move from leveling. it also is not an egg move---

Anyone know whats the best starting team im getting the game very soon :p

Christopher September 22nd, 2010 2:04 PM

In-Game its very hard to have a bad team all you really need is type coverage.
I suggest Typhlosion,Noctowl,Poliwrath/Golduck/Quagsire,Amphoras,and two other types that go well together I.E a Fighting & dark/ Ice & Dragon. Etc .....

I'm trying to catch myself a smergale in the sarfari zone in soul silver. I'm a bit confuse. Is smergale in the plain object or the forest object. The chart says 3 forest object, but I don't see any when I went there. I got it off from this site.

http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/safarizone.shtml

there is a total of 6 boxes to start out. Then the bottom 3 is forest and the top 3 is plain. Does that how it goes? If not please correct me.

Christopher September 23rd, 2010 5:25 PM

easier place to catch one would be the Ruins of Alph through the little "secret passage" they can't flee there.

to semi answer your question you have to complete the owner tests to gain the ability to place objects in the Safari zone you then go and place 3 forest objects and Smergle should become available.

Which secret passage? Can you explain it to me how to get there? What do I need?

You really don't need anything. In Union Cave, there's a stairway near the entrance that leads to its basement. Pass through there (while battling trainers, Surfing through the small lakes and using Strength to push past boulders) and you'll eventually come to 2 exits in the basement (stairs). Take one of them (I'm not sure which one) and it'll lead to the Ruins of Alph. One of the areas from the exits will have the tall grass where you can find Smeargle (and Natu).

Sorry if that didn't make sense.

It's not that hard to get to. You can surf from the harbor to the right and just hop on to that tiny spot of sand with the Poke Ball in it. If I remember correctly, the Charge Beam TM is in there.

Hewitt September 24th, 2010 5:57 AM

Only a quickie yes or no for two questions.

Doing the part where I got to choose one of three starters from the third gen, Steven mentioned about Latias being seen in Kanto. Whilst I've already got one via GTS, I was wondering if it can actually be caught in HG/SS.

Also, can I see other pokemon when fighting in the battle tower (EG. I haven't seen Totodile yet), and will they get added onto the national pokedex?

Yes, Latios or Latias becomes a roaming Pokémon in Kanto, the same as Raikou and Entei are roaming Johto. Which one roams depends on the version you have. In SoulSilver it's Latios, whereas in HeartGold (which you have) it's Latias.

Pokémon seen in any Battle Frontier facility are not registered on the Pokédex in any form.

im trying to get Feebas to evolve into Milotic on my Soul Silver, she is Bold Nature level 12.

i cant go to palette town yet since i havent gone though the pokemon league. but i heard getting Feebas groomed in GoldenRod City adds to her Beauty.

i have done this about 13 times. since the 8th time, i have tried to battle and level it to 13 w/o saving to see if it evolves into Milotic and it hasnt.

any idea how to get it to evolve into Milotic on Soul-Silver?

The haircut raises Happiness, not Beauty. You'll have to feed it Poffins to max its Beauty stat.

NOTE/EDIT/THING:
if you don't want my word written directions, use the links in the middle for picture directions.

if you'd rather video instruction, it's on the bottom :)

-------------------------------------------------------------

ok so

- you go in union cave
- and you go to the very north of the cave
- and go down some stairs.

- then go north again all the way
- (over the water and past the man)
- and you'll come to where you can only turn left.

- turn left and there'll be a fork in the road
- (where you can go up or down)
- so go up.

- you'll very soon come to a wall and you can only turn left
- so go left
- and go up the stairs

- nowhere to go in this room except follow the path
- surf on the water
- and go up the stairs.

- you'll be in a very small room
- with only an exit
- so go out the exit.

- you're now in the ruins of alph.
- go to the grass.
- and in that grass there are natu and smeargle.

------------------------------------------------------------------

picture intructions:
http://www.psypokes.com/hgss/gamemaps.php?map=unioncave

--- you'll come from route 32 or 33. head to a, from a to b, from b to c, and from c to ruins of alph

You're right there. Feebas can be evolved into Milotic by either getting a haircut in Goldenrod City or having Daisy Oak give your Pokémon a massage. However, each haircut and massage count towards 1/8th of the Pokémon's maximum beauty stat which means that you would have to visit both a total of at least eight times to get a full amount of beauty and, consequently evolve Feebas into Milotic. (More information can be found here.)

I want to breed a swinub with ancient power. Will Malswine and omynate do. But the swinub has to be a female right. And a male omnyate. Also I have a infernape I want to breed the moves. 1. It wouldn't work because Omanyte and Swinub aren't in the same egg group. Omanyte is in the Water 1 and Water 3 egg group; Swinub is in the Ground egg group. The only Ground egg group Pokemon apart from Piloswine and Mamoswine who can learn AncientPower are Dunsparce and Kecleon.

2. Since Grass Knot, and Flamethrower are TM moves, and ThunderPunch is an egg move, the baby Chimchar will have those moves, assuming your parent Infernape is male.

Yes the parent Infernape is a male. Also do I find smergale at night or in the morning. I also never get to find ratals. What time of day does it show up when the professor start saying. One more thing how can I make jariji learn wish and calm mind. Let me know. thanks.

Amore September 26th, 2010 1:53 AM

Jirachi learns Wish at a level of "start" so the lv.5 event one knows it, others need Heart Scales..

Calm Mind needs to be taught via TM, I'm afraid.....and TM04 is only available via Battle Frontier. Or you could win it off Tate & Liza or Sabrina, in R/S/E and FR/LG respectively, then migrate a pokemon holding it.

I'm going to soft reset my game to get a shiny Kanto Starters (Yes, i know it will take ages) but i'm not sure where i'm best to save my game. I'm currently saved outside of Oaks lab and haven't spoken to him yet. Should i speak to him and then save before i look at the Pokeballs or do i have to speak to him everytime i reset?

Hope that makes sense! Thanks in advance! :)

Anyway, I'm after a moon stone, haven't beaten Morty yet so that's where I am in the game.
Is it possible to get one by now, if so, where do I find it?

Christopher September 27th, 2010 2:28 PM

You can somewhat cheat the safari zone by turning the clock to 23:59 and letting the date roll over (will take awhile).

The Moonstone can be obtained by your mother and delivered to you at that point in the game (i think)

Bulbapedia says it's found with Sinnoh Sound rather than Hoenn Sound. Weird, since it is a Hoenn Pokemon, but...

You might want to try luring it out during the Sinnoh Sound program.

You can only distribute the Secret Key (Rotom event) to people. So in HeartGold and SoulSilver, it's basically a useless option.

If you're going to get into competitive battling, my best answer for you is to read guides in the Strategies and Movesets section. That'll tell you everything you need to know to get started battling against other players.

Also, for EV training, there's a guide here and at the bottom of the post here. And then there's my personal go-to place for guides, GameFAQs, which has a guide here. That guide explains the basics of EV training, natures, and where to find the best Pokemon for each stat.

ltsang September 30th, 2010 12:47 PM

I started a new team over. Right now I'm doing some ev training to my pokemon. My chamiar is level 8 and his speed is higher than the attack. Right now its at 16. I was battling a zubat in the slowpokes cave. How can you tell if it has gain some ev or not? Another thing is How can you tell when it can not gain any more evs. Attack is 13 last time I check. I know Chimar is not an speedy pokemon, but I want it just in case.

Christopher September 30th, 2010 12:51 PM

you can't see how many Evs you have whle training when you get the effort ribbon you have gotten the 510 and that pokemon is don. you get an Ev every time you beat a pokemon

this should help

Whenever your Pokemon defeats another Pokemon, it will always gain at least one EV.

There is a girl in a house in Blackthorn City who will give your Pokemon a ribbon if it has fully maxed out its EVs. That is the only way to find out if your Pokemon's EVs are maxed out, unless you've been keeping track.

Chimchar is actually very fast. Definitely focus on its Speed, along with either Attack or Special Attack depending on what moves you plan to teach it.

ltsang September 30th, 2010 1:41 PM

On Chimar I'm planning on teaching it grass knot, thunder punch, close combat and flamethrower. The ones from smogen university site

Go with the MixApe EVs then (if you plan on properly EV training).

rstevenson1976 September 30th, 2010 3:02 PM

ev's

is each pokemon's ev distribution predetermined or does it matter which ones you concentrate on? I've been using vitamins for raising my pokemon's evs(expensive I know but as far as I'm concerned it still gets the job done)

and anyone notice the odd looking rocks in the ilex forest? the ones by the Azalea Town entrance, think they might be anything like the two rocks in diamond that evolve eevee into two of it's forms?

Christopher September 30th, 2010 3:39 PM

each pokemon has its own evs it gives upon defeat e.g Nidoking gives 3 attack evs

Glaceon & Leafeon are not available in HG/SS

rstevenson1976 September 30th, 2010 3:50 PM

that doesn't answer my question

it matters which one you concentrate on. ev's are not set in stone like ivs are. with each pokemon you battle, that's where you get evs from. so if you want to concentrate on say defense evs, battle lots of geodudes. vitamins are supposed to help a lot, yes

but a question of my own: when I use vitamins, even if I use a lot, not too significant of a change shows on the stats at level up. why?

EVs? Effort Values are not the ones that are predetermined. Those are IVs, which are determined at birth/first appearance in the wild. EVs, on the other hand, are the ones that depend on what you concentrate on. You have more control over EVs.

So the answer I believe you're looking for is: The latter--"it [matters] which ones you concentrate on"

Negative. Eevee can evolve to Glaceon and Leafeon in only D/P/Pt, not in HG/SS. Those rocks were only placed there, as far as I know, for the Farfetch'd in-game event.

How do you keep track of the your ev for your pokemon? I don't really know. I've paper and pencil, but I lost track.

You can find many calculators for these sorts of things online. Google 'EV Calculator' or something similar and you should find the one you need.

Additionally, you can always use EV-reducing berries to bring your EVs back down to zero if you're not good with calculations (I know I'm not).

well, before the national pokedex of black/white you can't get any of the pokemon from prior generations. this would include ditto. is there another pokemon that can transform in gen 5? or are the days of breeding over?

(I've heard that there are no baby pokemon but not sure what exactly that would mean (no only-baby-obtainable gen 5 pokes or no daycares or what))

what happens when you get the national pokedex? does a daycare open up? (like the one in fr/lg kinda?)

1. No, I don't think so. You'll have to wait till you get the National Dex in B/W in order to see Ditto.

2. No, a new Daycare doesn't open up when you get the National Dex in HG/SS. You'll be able to see the dex entries of Pokemon of other regions, not just the native ones.

I remember during the game there is a girl somewhere in the kanto that asked for a chancey. I forgot where. Does anyone remember? Also which ou pokemon you taught fly too. I need a flying type.

no girl ask for a chansey in kanto or johto.
sorry

I need help. HOW DA HECH I'M I MEANT TO TRAIN MY POKEMON?! *exists n00b mode*

I'm serious, like I've seen the table on Bulbapedia of the trainers, their times and their location, but it's on different days at different times during the day and it'll only be like 5 a day. And I have 6 Pokemon to train. Wild Pokemon just don't cut it.

Here's my predicament:
Most of my Pokemon are just short of Lv.30, to of them are already there. My next Gym Leader is jasmine, who has Lv.35 Pokemon. I have a Fighting and Fire type I can use against her but I'll need to train them. I've battled all trainers up to the town Pryce's Gym is located, and I can't go past there. I keep underestimating the Gym Leaders, at first, I over estimated, but that was only Falkner's Gym xD So now I have to train my Pokemon. I don't know how to go, and where to go, about it.

Please, somebody - help me! *end scene* :)

Well, to be honest in that situation there isn't any quick and easy way out. You are just going to have to train against wild Pokémon until you at a level to beat Jasmine. I found that the best wilds to train against at that particular stage are on the water routes between Olivine and Cianwood (Routes 40 & 41).

Bear in mind though that you will have a very good chance of beating Jasmine with Lv. 30's and you don't have to raise them over and above her levels. Just bring in a number of Super Potions, Revives and Status Healers and you should be fine.

To stop this from happening again, I suggest that in the early phases of the game you never select 'Run' (unless necessary) or use Repels - fight every wild and your experience will grow all the time. It may not seem like a lot but it avoids this sort of thing later on in the game.

Amore October 3rd, 2010 12:09 PM

You can also change around your DS date and time...I know, you're probably worried about Apricorns etc. right? You solve that by reverting back to normal date and time at 23:59ish, going on your game, waiting until 00:01, then saving. If it passes midnight whilst your playing, clock manipulation doesn't screw it. Great, huh?

beat price's gym, then go through the cave left on cianwood. make it to the safari zone. the area south of the safri zone is a really good place to train.

pryce is pretty easy. note: he's an ice leader but he really has more water pokes. he's pretty easy. I think you need to beat team rocket first, so if you haven't already, do it. that will train you too :)

On route 14 in kanto the girl that asks for a chansey is there. She is in a patch of grass that you have to use cut to get to. If you show her a chansey she will give you the lucky punch item for it to hold, unlike in g/s/c versions when she traded you an aerodactyl for chansey.

Bluerang1 October 4th, 2010 11:55 AM

You guys have been very helpful, thanks! I guess I'm stuck with the wild pokes. A point goes to Platinum here, VS Seeker pwns. So yeah, the Safari Zone are is where I was training to Lv.30, but I guess I'll just continue there. Oh and the Tentcruel in Cianwood, probably what Kip meant. Finally, Amore, could you ellaborate on that please?

Im sorry if this has already been posted somewhere but Im in a bit of a hurry.

I read somewhere that if you SR for a starter you have a 4 in 8000 (cant remember the exact number) instead of the usual 1 in 8000. Is this true? Also if you do encounter a shiny starter will it be shiny in the selection screen where you can see all the starters? Thanks in advance.

It's still the same rate of chance to see a shiny starter. That's 1/8192, no matter what the Pokemon is.

As for the starter, I believe that you have to actually check it on the status screen after you receive it. That's what I've heard when people talked about this before.

You can try the Masuda method.

Look it up on Bulbapedia.

The easiest way is to cheat for them [/smarta**]

If you don't want to cheat, then hatching is a slightly better way than just trying to get them randomly (a lot better if you have a foreign parent/ditto). Either Masuda-ing, or RNG abusing.

Good luck, either way xD

When exactly is Eevee happy enough to evolve, and where can I get some of the stones needed?

Christopher October 11th, 2010 12:33 AM

the evo stones can be obtained via the Pokeathlon or the bug catching contest also they can be given to you by trainers you register in your pokegear.
As for the happiness I believe it must be at 255 easily done by using the Haircut Brothers and Daisy Oak along with certain Berries (the Ev reducing ones)

Daisy Oak is in Pallet Town, in the house next to Red's house (also known as Blue Oak's house). To see if your Eevee is happy enough, go to the house near the Bike Shop in Goldenrod City and talk to the girl there. If she says, "It looks really happy! It must love you a lot," (or something like that) then Eevee is happy enough to evolve.

you can get the stones from

1. the pokeathlon (before the national dex there's a different stone each day of the week; you need to go there on a certain day to get a certain stone. after the national dex there's more stones each day)

2. winning first place in the bug-catching contest. before the national dex you can only get a sun stone as a prize (won't really help your eevee...) but if you've got the national dex then any of the stones can be your prize.

3. certain people will give you their phone number and give you a stone every now and then.
>> one of them is between goldenrod and ilex forest in that patch in the long grass. beat her and she'll give you her phone number and she'll give you I think it's a leaf stone if she ever calls you (rarely).
>> another is left of ekruteak city, like right next to the top of the milktank farm. I think this one's a boy trainer and the same thing applies as above. except he gives you a different stone. I think maybe a thunderstone.
>> those are the two I can think of off the top of my head.

conclusion:
if you want an evolutionary stone, you're best off buying them as pokeathlon prizes.

for happiness, yeah you can do haircuts and such but I think that's too much of a bother as you can only do it once per day, etc. what I do is I farm an ev reducing berry (ie the kelpsy berry). I plant it in the berry planter and plant the berries that come off it and everything until I have like 50 or so berries (remember to water!), and then I get the pokemon that needs happiness to evolve and feed it berries until it won't take no more. when it won't take no more that's when I know the happiness is maxed. before this the pokemon won't evolve, so I don't need to go checking whether or not it's happy enough by talking to someone; just feed it untill it won't eat no more

my advice: do both. while you're mass producing your berries you can also do the haircuts and such. then it'll take less berries to max out the happiness. and this will be quicker than if you do the haircuts or the berries alone. now you're doing both!

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ October 11th, 2010 7:08 AM

Also about the stones:

Once you reach Kanto, you can get some from Bill's grandfather who lives in Bill's old house on the Route 25 cape north of Cerulean. You have to show him a specific Pokemon in order to get the stone from him and you can only get one of each of the types he gives out. The Pokemon you need to show him varies by version but he'll drop a riddle to help you identify which one he wants to see.

No real idea yet, as it's unknown what Nintendo of America/PUSA (if they're involved at all) will do for the next event. And even if they are going to do an event.

Your best bet is to just remain patient and wait for news about another event.
