Basically, as you've EV'd it at such a low level, it needs to have some small stat gains for a few level-ups, or otherwise it's going to end up with some preposterous speed stat at lv.40, which would be weird.
It's got to gain the points gradually in order to finish up with the right speed stat at lv.100. Also, if your pokemon has a horrendous speed IV, it's never going to end up as high as you expect it to be. |
Right, thanks for the quick answer and explanation. I just want them to have 100 at Speed by level 50 so they're fast for the Frontier! ^_^ That's how the Frontier cuts their stats down right?
|
I think so...well, actually, as far as I can remember, from when I EV'd my Dragonite and it ended up at lv.69 (thing with my friends, don't ask), I learned its IVs. When I went into Battle Tower, I used an IV calculator, checking its' stats against IVs, and it said I needed the EVs I'd given it to get those stats.
Therefore....it keeps the EVs, so no matter what level you get it fully EV'd by, it'll appear as it would have if it was fully EV'd at lv.50 Hope I wasn't too confusing :P |
so i just found out about shiny pokemon and it made me wonder what else i should watch out for?
i mean i've only played any pokemon game for a couple weeks now (SS) and might have hit a shiny and knocked it out without knowing. are there other things i should watch for as i play through my first pokemon game for the first time? thanks |
Quote:
1. shiny pokemon are very very rare. 1/8192 chance of encountering one. don't worry, you wont have missed a shiny in only a couple weeks of playing. anyway, if one appears, even if you're not paying much attention you'll notice it. Spoiler:
2. another thing you should watch out for is pokerus. it's a virus for pokemon that's even rarer than shinys are. but it's a good virus. if a pokemon has or had pokerus it will gain double evs (effort values). Spoiler:
things to know about pokerus: (1) if you have a pokemon with pokerus in your party it will spread to the other party members (2) any pokemon in your party at midnight with pokerus will be healed (will no longer be able to spread it, but will still gain double evs). (3) any pokemon in your pc at midnight with pokerus will not be affected. they will keep it and still be able to spread and everything. so try to make sure you always have at least one pokemon with pokerus in your pc so that you can continue to spread it. 3. in heartgold/soulsilver, pokemon follow you. sometimes if you talk to a pokemon it wll give you a shiny leaf. there's four different routes each pokemon can gain a leaf on (if you get all four you'll get a crown!), and it's random. there's info somewhere on the net on which routes each pokemon can find shiny leaves on. it's kinda pointless (just like shiny pokemon) but it's pretty rare too, so, like shiny pokemon, it's pretty cool to find shiny leaves on pokemon. it's a nice touch exclusive to hg/ss. hope this info on what to look out for helps :) any questions just ask |
cool thanks for the tips - especially the virus one. anything special i can do to increase chances of getting pokerus?
|
Quote:
I don't think you can improve your chances. Getting Pokerus is based on luck. If I remember correctly, the chance of encountering a Pokemon infected with Pokerus is about 1/3 of the chance of finding a Shiny Pokemon, so make sure you spread it to other Pokemon when you get it. |
Quote:
I've been playing heart gold for 211:28 time now and still haven't got it. it's all luck. no way to effect your chances of getting it, either. it is however possible for a pokemon with pokerus to be traded to your game. so if you want it that bad, you can get someone to trade you. ***** in fact I'm feeling pretty generous right now :) I still have that diamond game, and I have like over 100 pokemon with pokerus spread to them. I could give you one that's still infected if you'd like, it'd be no problem to me. I don't play it anymore right now and like I said tons of my pokemon have it anyway. pm me if you're interested; a gift to a newbie :) --------------------------------------- oh yeah I forgot one thing. to get pokerus: you have to defeat pokemon. if the opposite pokemon has pokerus (there's no way to know) and you defeat it, your pokemon might get it. the way you know is next time you heal at a pokecenter, the nurse will tell you that you got pokerus. then if you look at the status screen of that pokemon (and any infected pokemon) there'll be a pink box with PKRS on it. if you accidentally leave an infected pokemon in your party at midnight: a pokemon healed from pokerus will have a smily face in place of that box. |
Quote:
For example, if you want to gain more speed EVs, you only fight Pokemon that will give you that benefit. If the Pokemon you are fighting only gives you Sp Atk benefits (as an example) then your speed EV won't increase as much as you'd like it to. |
Hi, I was at GameStop and so I bought this book called the Pokedex. It said you could get Groudon/Kyogre in it. I was wondering how you got the orbs.
|
Once you've defeated Red on Mount Silver, go visit Mr. Pokemon. He will give you an orb, red or blue depending on your version. Then go to Route 47, use the bottom exit of the Cliff Cave, surf until you find a place to use Rock Climb, then go in the cave up there. You'll encounter either Groudon (SoulSilver) or Kyogre (HeartGold).
To get the other one, you have to trade. Once you have both, go visit Professor Oak in his lab in Pallet Town. He'll give you the Jade Orb. Then, go back to Embedded Tower (where you found Kyogre/Groudon), and you'll be able to capture Rayquaza. |
I have a friend who already obtained the Enigma Stone from the August event. Could they share that wondercard with me since I didn't get it?

On my way to Mahogany. I've learned that the gym battle is a tag battle, ripe with flying and dragon-type pkmn. I've been doing well so far, relying on my (now lv 41) Typhlosion. I haven't done any hardcore training, just leveling as I go along the game. His stats are 86, 85, 95, 84 and 110. He knows cut, ember, flame wheel and lava plume. Would he be a match for them, or am I better off taking some time to raise some other pkmn-type?
|
Quote:
Your Typhlosion's fine. I'd only replace Cut with Strength and Ember with another, stronger attack. But if he's the only Pokemon you're training, I would recommend training at least another Pokemon. |
Ugh, I meant Blackthorne, not Mahogany. Sorry. :knockedou
|
Oh, well yes, Clair specialises with dragons. However, it's not a gym battle.
What you really need is an electric or rock-type to kill Gyarados (electric tend to be special-based, which is better against Gyarados' intimidate), just something powerful against her dragon-types, but a water resist against her team is useful, as they can all wield water-type moves........Vaporeon is brilliant, if you have one, as it absorbs water attacks, is bulky, and learns Ice Beam, which could help against that gym. Typhlosion is, essentially, useless against the 8th gym and champion, but useful everywhere else, so dont' drop it, but raise others. Mind telling us what your team is? It would help a lot. |
I have a lvl 43 Typhlosion, lvl 35 Gyarados, lvl 26 Togetic, lvl 26 Mew, lvl 22 Jolteon, lvl 20 Krabby, lvl 17 Flaafy, lvl 16 Meowth and a lvl 6 Hoothoot.
|
Quote:
|
Agreed.
Togetic is worth raising, particularly if its' ability is Serene Grace. Once you get all 16 badges, you can evolve it into Togekiss, which is absolutely brilliant. Jolteon will prove useful, as it can learn Shadow Ball, helping against Will of the Elite Four, Karen's Gengar, and Thunderbolt > Lance's Charizard, Aerodactyl and Gyarados. It then comes in useful in Kanto. Trust me, Jolteon is worth it. Mew is brilliant for learning any move...but don't waste it by teaching it HMs. Have you got the Shuckle from Cianwood City? It's not a good battler, but its' got huge defenses, which are useful for team recovery. Get your team to around lv.39/40, and you'll be good to go against Clair. Also, do you use your Pokewalker? Rare pokemon such as Elekid (which evolves into Electabuzz, but is not needed as you have Jolteon), Murkrow, Kangaskhan, and Smoochum (evolves into Jynx, if you don't catch one in Ice Path) can really help increase the diversity of your team. |
It took a few tries, but I finally have my 8th gym badge. I just got it, along with Dratini and a master ball. When is a good time to use the ball, and where can I get more?
|
Quote:
You can only get another one in-game via the lottery, which is rather difficult to win. |
Three questions...
1) If I reset my game, can I re-download Mew? 2) The game says that I can "startle" a pokemon during an evolution to keep it's current form. If I do that, (for example) when Cyndaquil reaches level 14, can I evolve Cyndaquil when it reaches level 15? 3) I forgot what my third question was. :( |
Quote:
2. in order to "startle" a pokemon evolution, press the B button during evolution. if u do this, they next time they grow a level they will try to evolve again. so, to answer your question, yes. |
you can download as many mews as you want if you restart each time
|
Cool, I get to restart with Mew as my main 'mon. Thanks.
|

Have fun on your mew run. |
The only problem is that the mew you get dosent have your ID so its going to disobey you when you dont have the right badges
|
I never really understood that. How will certain pokemon disobey me?
|
Quote:
|
Just thought I'd expand on that:
If the pokemon does not have the same OT and ID as your trainer's name and ID, it may not obey. So, it's usually traded pokemon, but events, such as the recent Mew, come under the same criteria. Basically, once they hit a certain level, they may not obey (I think it's lv.10...that's when all mine get affected) |
Quote:
(the normal player usually doesn't have their pokemon much higher than 15 for the second badge or 40 for the sixth badge (probably less than 40).) the only badge you would ever have to worry about is the first badge, which you need to get your pokemon to obey higher than lv 20. there's a chance if you're only raising like three pokemon or whatever that you'll have pokemon above lv 20. but then again, usually you don't have a traded pokemon before the first badge, and they're the ones that disobey. you can have your starter pokemon or one of the sentrets or hoothoots or whatever that you just caught at lv 100 and they'll still obey you completely. so again, not a problem. |
to above poster you are wrong I once trained my starter on a differnt game to level 100 then traded it back and it still obeyed me the only pokes that will disobey you are pokes with a differnt ID then yours when they reach a certain level:
you can read all about it here under the title drawbacks of trading: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Trade |
That makes no sense!
Your pokemon had the same ID number, OT and Secret ID, because it came from the same game! Trading it away then getting it back doesn't change it unless you restart... |
Can I trade pokemon between Pokemon Ranger and SS?

Nope. There might be something about moving a Manaphy Egg over from Ranger, dunno what games that's in though.

I can trade other pokemon from Ranger to Platinum, then from Platinum to SS, though?

Whereabouts is the best place to train a fire pokemon in HG.
Can only access areas before the E4. Looking to train Growlithe up a bit before I get there. Lapras I can train in Victory Road and Ampharos I can train as I surf around. |
Quote:
I raise every pokemon in the game, so I've had to come up with a good way to train the pokes that are hard to lv at a point in the game (like your growlithe). : all you need is your lapras, an exp share, and your growlithe. go into victory road and walk around, having lapras at the front of your party and growlithe holding an exp share. Spoiler:
this will help raise your lapras and growlithe. |
A word of advice about the above advice, which is incredibly good - Lapras is a dual type Water/Ice pokemon. Therefore, it learns Ice moves which also benefit from the STAB bonus. Golbat are weak to Ice. Teach it an ice move, and you can kill every pokemon you meet in Victory Road.
|
Just be wary of Lapras' low speed and Golbat's fairly high speed. Those wild Golbat, they love to do Mean Look and Confuse Ray :/
|
Yeah, you're right, it isn't worth as much....however, it's seems a waste to run from all them encounters...also, the more Golbat you battle, the faster your pokemon get...whilst this isn't so important on Lapras, Growlithe will also get the EVs, and it's very important for him.

Hey guys, just a reminder. Let's leave the thread for more questions and answers rather than "thank yous" or strayed chit-chat. You can save those for VMs or PMs.
...Who knows, you may meet a new friend a long the way. :] |
I've been trying to EV train my Gible and my Bagon using the Advanced Individual Value & Stat Calculator at http://www.legendarypokemon.net/javacalc.html. I put in the following information:
Pokémon Species: Gible Spoiler:
but I got this error: Gible Lv.20 does not compute! HP (60) should be 53 to 59. The Effort Points or Nature may be inaccurate. what gives? |
Is the Mew event over already? D;
|
Quote:
|
I got it right, I checked multiple times, all the info from the status screen and the judge in the battle tower is accurate.
Bagon gave me a similar error, I'm also using power items if that makes a difference. |
I'm stuck. I can't go to Pewter, and I can't go to Sea Foam Islands/Cinnabar in Kanto. I don't know what to do. I've beaten the 5 gyms in the area I'm stuck in, and I have my Train Pass from CopyCat.
|
You must wake up snorlax using the radio card you got for restoring the power then you take Diglet cave to Pewter.

Where's the best place to quickly hatch an egg?
I'm using Battle Tower's slope (you know, before you enter Battle Tower, the slope there...) because I think I can move twice as fast when riding a bike going up and down the slope. Any other places? |
Quote:
|
Thanks. I've tried that too, there was a straight line there that you won't bump anyone or anything for 95 steps, counted it yesterday. Also, just to clarify..
Flame Body + Magma Armor DO NOT stack, right? Both on the party just still halves the steps required to hatch the egg? |

What does the Exclamation mark on the pokegear's map mean
|
It means that there is someone who called you/you called on that route who wants to battle you again or give you an item. Small feature that reminds you where to go for the such I guess.

http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=236530 |
Quote:
They were only releasd in Japan but not that long before b&w for Japan. They came with some exclusive moves as well (e.g. Raikou with Aura Sphere), and unlock an in-game event involving Zoroark in B&W when moved to those games. |
Can you migrate shiny pokemon from GBA games to HG/SS?

Hey, is there by any chance an item in this game that prevents the pokemon from getting confused? Thanks. :)
|
Quote:
What you need to do is get to Goldenrod, go down into the Underground Tunnel part of the city and find the Rocket Grunt in there. He will fit you up in a Rocket uniform as a new recruit which will allow you to get into the Radio Tower and continue the story. |

Lum Berry These two berries get the pokemon out of confusion. I don't believe there is an item that actual prevents status issues. |
Does Guard Spc. also protect against confusion?

Guard Spec. protects against Stat reduction.

Ah, yes, that's right, derp. Although another item that does gt rid of confusion is the Yellow Flute (and is reusable! but cannot be held and used by the Pokemon methinks).
|
Thanks guys! Does anybody know where you can obtain the yellow flute though? :)
|
Yellow Flute is found on Route 12 or 1000+ steps on the Rally Pokewalker course.
|
Rhyperior: Solid Rock
For Rhyperior, how does he get the ability Solid Rock? As far as I know, the previous evolutions dont have it, and so does he get it when he evolves? Or do you need some requirement, so he doesn't get lightning rod? So, is it just mere chance?
