I couldnt find this question answered anywhere in here.
Just curious, what happens to the third johto starter pokemon? Does anybody know. Does it go to some random trainer you never meet in game, maybe to Ethan/Lyra. Ive been wondering for quite a while. |
I don't think it is ever mentioned, actually. It randomly disappears and there's no story bit to what happened to it or the such. Interestingly, in Gold/Silver/Crystal though, the Pokemon stayed in the lab. I presume it's a random trainer of no consequence who got it, really.
Or maybe Elm ate it |
Well in that case you dont happen to know what a certain phone call is supposed to mean.
I chose Totodile as my starter, which means the thief rival takes Chikorita. I randomly got a phone call one day, and then a second another day, from Lyra telling me I should take Cyndaquil for a walk on Route 42 or something. :/ |

If I took a digglet with arena trap ability into the safari zone, you think the pokemon ill stop running away on me?
|
No. It's not in battle, so the ability doesn't work. Not to mention I don't believe you have any Pokemon with you in the Safari Zone anyway.
|
I believe the concept for Safari zone was Ball, Food, Rock(or other substitute), Run. In the Bug Catching Contest you get to use your pokemon though, so I am pretty sure that would apply.
|
yeah but I don't think pokemon run in the bug catching contest.

I remember in the old game, when you click on the last pokeball, it tells you it's Oak's last pokemon so you shouldn't take it. Maybe that's same for Elm... |

in the room in the bottom floor of the pokemon center... where you can do trades and stuff with friend codes... what's the thing that says battle frontier do?
|
I think I have used that awhile back. Basically it lets you compete in the battle frontier with other players. You go in there and they have you choose the specific facility you wish to challenge with the other player.

What's a good hold item for Nidoking?
I just got a Nidoking [ :king: =D ] in Soul Silver and when it comes to attacks it's extremely flexible. I'm giving all my Pokemon Type-enhancing items, but I can't figure out what to give Nidoking. Any tips?
|
Well, if you're looking for Poison/Ground type enhancing items what about Poison Barb or Soft Sand? I'd recommend Black Sludge. It's like Leftovers but for Poison types. :)
|
Merged with the Help thread sticky as that's where questions should go.
And oh look already some answers. =) |
ok what's up with nidoking/queen? I seem to remember them being really strong pokemon but I have them and they're like really weak. what's up with that?
|

Maybe Leftovers/Black Sludge... Thanks! |

Im after an area to gain some levels for battling against the Elite 4 (round 2) and then Red afterwards.
4 of the 6 in my team are under Lv.60 as they were somewhat later additions to the team. Any ideas? |

I'm Torn
Lately I've been so torn between soulsilver and platinum. I can't decide which one i want to use as my main game. I LOVE soulsilvers graphics and all the new little details. If they were just mixed with platinum it would have been the ultimate game. My biggest problem is training. I'm finding that there are times when i play there isn't much options to train in soulsilver except for the league over and over which gets a tad boring after a bit. I just wish they had the vs seeker still. I've got the gym leaders numbers but idk i always miss their times and so forth. Is there some place i'm missing that can make this easier? The lack of the vs seeker is driving me back to platinum but i long for soulsilvers aesthetics.
|
Well you can always change the time if you want - as long as you don't care about time-specific things for the time being (like berries and whatnot) which would be affected by the time-changing, you can use that to your advantage to refight people.
There's also your rival at the E4 at certain times/days, Red reappears after each time you beat the E4, and there's other trainers to call too which after a few battls end up being pretty decent so you can call at least someone at any specific day and time afaik. There are no other options afaik though bar wild Pokemon, and that's boring. |
why doesn't my riolu wanna breed.......does it have to be a lucario?
thanks to whoever can confirm this for me.... |
It depends what you are trying to breed Riolu with, you may be breeding it with an incompatible Egg Group. I believe I had breed Riolu in the past with out problems so I don't see that it would be an issue because it is not evolved.

I do believe Riolu is considered a "Baby" pokemon and they cannot not breed so you'll have to evolve it.
|
Riolu is a member of the no eggs group. Therefore it cannot breed.
|
Hey, I need help with finding Leftovers. I'm aware that Snorlax Holds it but I beat it in battle instead of capturing because I didn't know at the time. Is there any other way I can get Leftovers? :)

In original G/S you could find them from Celadon City's restaurant bin, but I think you can't find them there in HG/SS which is a shame... |
@Late : Thank's for the help. :) But I don't have G/S. So I guess I'm screwed. ;-;

hey, is anyone lagging?
i have nintendo ds lite and im playing ss
i feel my game is lagging and the resolution is bad? |
Quote:
Well maybe it's your Ds finally coming to a stop :| BUT. Soul Silver does run quite slow so that might be the lagging part, although the resolution part Idk, maybe your playing on an R4? |
Quote:
If so, the games run in 30 FPS. Instead of 60 FPS. 30 FPS without proper measures of blending between frames can make the game look choppy. As for the resolution, all DS games run at the same resolution per screen: 256x192 per screen. Always. So... I don't know what are you talking about, unless you're comparing to a modern console game, then... |

I heard that you can clone in HeartGold via the GTS like in DPPt, but I can't figure out how D: The little box in the lower-right corner goes around 9.5 times before the pokemon gets sent through. Can anyone lemme know how I can clone in HG? I don't know when to turn it off at the GTS or anything. Thanks :3

(Also cloning is easier if you can look at the router - a light on some will start flashing around when you should turn off to do it properly). |

I'm having a hard time training my Swablu on SoulSilver. Swablu is level 15 and 1103 from level 16. When my Combusken hit 18, it was 744 away from 19, and Lombre hit 16 and it 508 from 17. I checked Serebii to see how fast Swablu's exp gain was, and it's listed as erratic, and Combusken and Lombre as listed as medium slow, which...doesn't seem to be the case at all. :|
Anyone have any explanation for this? It's really a pain in the ass considering this is early in the game and I'm trying to raise Swablu to level 17 before I fight Bugsy. And none of them are traded, I hatched all three on my own. So no trade boosts for any of them. |
This might be a pretty far off question, but does anyone know where I can see a Glameow or Purrugly in SoulSilver? I need to at least see one to get it off GTS, haha.

Erratic
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/b/ba/Expcalc_erratic.png http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/w/skins/common/images/magnify-clip.png The equation for the Erratic experience group. At levels 50, 68, and 98, both formulas return equal values. The Erratic experience group, one of the two groups introduced in Generation III, features the lowest level 100 value for experience, at only 600,000 points. Aside from Shieldon, Cranidos, and Finneon's families, all Pokémon in this experience group were introduced in Generation III as well, with most of them being Bug- or Water-types. Receiving its name due to the highly erratic experience point requirement to reach the next level from level 68 to level 98, Pokémon in this group level up rather slowly in their lower levels, requiring the most experience to grow from level 1 to level 10 (1800 as compared to 1250 for Slow, the next highest requirement), and increase the rate of their growth at higher levels, requiring the least experience to grow from level 90 to level 100 (108654 points as compared to 216800 for Fast, the next lowest requirement). Due to the erraticness of this function, it actually takes fewer experience points to go from level 99 to 100 than it does to go from level 69 to 70. For a list of all Pokémon in this group, see Pokémon in the Erratic experience group |

Hello. I recently just got heart gold at gamestop. So I wanted to know where and what kind of pokemon I can use to train it. I chose cyndiquil right now. Right now he's at level 8 and his attack gain 2 points by beating the red hair guy. I didn't get any points when I use my pokemon in the wild. So I want to know where for an ev train. Right now I'm on the way to the first gym leader. I'm about to battle my first trainer. I'm looking to boost his attacks.
|
EV training during the main game is...kinda difficult, since you don't have access to places with certain Pokemon that give out the EVs you're looking for, plus it doesn't require a lot of exp points to get to the next level, so you can't stack on EVs from lower level Pokemon just yet. If you want to EV train your Cyndaquil that badly, you might as well box it and come back and do that after you're farther along in the game. Some early on Pokemon that give out Attack EVs are Bellsprout, Sentret, Unown, and Spinarak, though. Hope that can help you a little. Your post was a little difficult to comprehend, so I tried my best.
|
Yeah, tbh I wouldn't worry about trying to EV train during the main runthrough of the game - you can, but it'd just be limiting yourself. (Bsides you can reset EVs with certain berries after you beat the main game anyways). Alos note EVs do not necssary get accounted for as stat gains until you get to level 100 (or say started EV training at a high level and get a bit lucky).
|
is there anyway to better breed for characteristics? i have been trying to breed a Roselia with a Speed characteristic for days with no luck. for some reason most of them come out with "somewhat vain" character which is what the male has. im not sure what characteristics do to be honest, i have looked them up, if someone could explain them to me in plain english hehe i would be happy :) thanx
|
Quote:
It all depends on IVs really; like the IVs of a certain pokemon can determine what characteristic a pokemon has; like if its "Alert to sounds" then it can have a good speed IV. And you may know that IVs are what a pokemon can have to have a max number of speed; like Salamence has a 350 max speed, etc. You could get both parents with the same characteristic and there's a good chance that the baby will have the same characteristic. Mmm hope this helps... V///V |
Not sure if this goes here, but...
I recently traded for a Chansey, and therefore I'm not the OT, and therefore I can't give it a nickname. However, if I evolve it to Blissey, will the message pop-up asking me if I want to rename it? :bandit: |

i cant find any info online to confirm which gender determines the characteristic but in my experience after this breed i will mos definitely say it is the Male that determines the babies characteristic... |
Both parents contribute the IV's for a specific stat so theoretically either parent could end up determining the characteristic for the baby Pokemon... it depends on which IV stat each parent ends up contributing and whether or not another stat has higher IV's than the stat from either parent.
Personally, I just plug the numbers into an IV checker and I don't even bother with the characteristic... I want to know the exact IV's of my Pokemon. |
How do you get an IV Checker? This thread may be outdated?
|
Thread is outdated in...what manner? =/
But an IV checker - well just google IV calculator and you'll find programs that calculate IVs according to nature + stats of a poke. Serebii has one, psypokes has one, etc. If you mean something else...clarify please. |
Thanks that really helped I thought it was in game. But they can't get the exact IVs though. Like NPCs say all Pokemon are different.

Is it possible to get a shiny Celebi
well you see im one of the lucky ones to own a legit celebi as i traded it of a guy who got it in japan from a event. But it has made me think is it possible without hacking to obtain a shiny Celebi?
|
I do not believe so as the events shininess is pre-determined so as of now I believe it is impossible to have a shiny Celebi,Mew,Manaphy or Arceus. (I believe)
|
what?
Thanks for the advice but something really werid happened to my friends sapphire we were on route 123 and were just roaming around and then a battle started and a celebi was in the grass! please someone explain what this is, is it a event or something? could a get a shiny celebi from it?
|
Your friend probably has an AR. So yes, you could get a shiny Celebi from it.
|
However, that Calebi would be a hack...
|
For calibration, I need to catch a Pokemon with atleast level 50.
But I wouldn't know where I can easely catch one level 50+... Do Rare Candies work aswell? (Catch one level 40 and give him 15 rare candies) Or does Ho-Oh work? (Level 70) Thanks! |

Legendaries aside, the only other place you can encounter Lv. 50s is in Mt. Silver Cave.
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mt_Silver#Generation_IV Post-E4 legendaries are usually at Lv.50+ (except Latios/Latias), including Zapdos (Power Plant), Articuno (Seafoam Islands), Moltres (Mt. Silver) and Mewtwo (Cerulean Cave). |
is there any place in soul silver i can get a gracidea flower. (got shaymin from another friend )

I have a question, you knwo the Togepi egg we get from Prof. Elm, can the hatched Togepi ever be female? I'm SRing for a female but it's looking impossible to get one xD
|
Quote:
Its only cause the percentage is pretty low, that's why Togepi becomes Male more often. |
Oh so there is a chance afterall. I'll keep trying. Thank you so much Miss Doronjo!!!
|
But also keep in mind that its gender is set when you receive the egg, not when you hatch it.
|

|
This is more of a question of preference... You see I just received a Master Ball from Professor Elm. Which Pokemon should I save it for?
|
Up to you, but either a legendary that would be harder to catch than normal (like Mewtwo for instance), or one of the roaming legendaries (Raikou/Entei/[email protected]) because of them constantly running away and whatnot.
If you like the challenge of catching all of those without a master ball then you can keep it for the (rather unlikely, mind) case of say encountering a shiny poke that might kill itself e.g. self-destructing geodudes. |
Thanks! I was contemplating using it on the Lugia, but managed to catch it with a Ultra Ball in clutch situations xD Is it possible to catch a roaming legendary without a Masterball? I mean won't they just run away after one ultraball try?
|
From all the encounters I have had they either run after one turn or Roar you away. So if I recall correctly they indeed run. Master is not necessary, but it would make them a lot easier to obtain.
|
Quote:
|
Also bear in mind that any damage you in the battle will be carried over to the next one. Say you did 30 points of damage to Entei before it ran away - it will still be damaged when it returns. The same goes for if you paralyse it, poison it or put it to sleep. Which is really weird considering it runs off while asleep, and then you encounter it again... still sleeping. :/
Well that's how I caught Raikou with a Ultra Ball anyways. :) |
I want to know what type of Gastly can I catch that is immue to whiteny's milktank stomp attack. I'm trying to defeat her with a leviated ground gastly, but it is not working. I'm playing the heart gold version and now I'm at goldenrod city about to defeat her.

I am already well aware status effects and Quick Ball enhance the chances. I was just answering the question. You also forgot to mention Fast Ball and Dusk Ball(which is used for night). I just have multiple Master Balls so I don't even worry about it. I don't know if Timer Ball still increases the chance after 10 encounters though. I know the concept would apply for regular instances.
|
Thanks guys ^^ I think I'm going to just save it...
oh and this is more of a... question. Well I just navigated through Victory Road however my strongest Pokemon is Level 40. Do you think I can take on the Elite 4 xD? Anyone know any good spots to train for them? |
Quote:
And the best place to train your team, is where you are right now, Victory Road ;D |
^ Also note you can rematch trainers via the phone, as long as you call specific trainers at specific times, if you'd rather do that than beat up wild Pokemon. =p There's info on that in the faq I believe (leastways a link to serebii's page on that), and note you can fight a trainer as often as you like in their time period.
|
thanks for the feedback guys~ my team... is not so intimidating.
Level 40 Meganium Level 39 Ampharos Level 39 Pidgeot Level 37 Eevee Level 28 Dratini (The one I just got from the Dragon's Den) Plan to keep him as a Dragonair HM Mule -.- I'm probably going to use the Lugia I just caught as my 6th instead of the mule. It's untouched though. |
