Agreed.

Togetic is worth raising, particularly if its' ability is Serene Grace. Once you get all 16 badges, you can evolve it into Togekiss, which is absolutely brilliant.

Jolteon will prove useful, as it can learn Shadow Ball, helping against Will of the Elite Four, Karen's Gengar, and Thunderbolt > Lance's Charizard, Aerodactyl and Gyarados. It then comes in useful in Kanto. Trust me, Jolteon is worth it.

Mew is brilliant for learning any move...but don't waste it by teaching it HMs.

Have you got the Shuckle from Cianwood City? It's not a good battler, but its' got huge defenses, which are useful for team recovery.

Get your team to around lv.39/40, and you'll be good to go against Clair.

Also, do you use your Pokewalker? Rare pokemon such as Elekid (which evolves into Electabuzz, but is not needed as you have Jolteon), Murkrow, Kangaskhan, and Smoochum (evolves into Jynx, if you don't catch one in Ice Path) can really help increase the diversity of your team.

It took a few tries, but I finally have my 8th gym badge. I just got it, along with Dratini and a master ball. When is a good time to use the ball, and where can I get more?

Master Balls are best used against roamers, specifically Raikou, Entei, and [email protected]

You can only get another one in-game via the lottery, which is rather difficult to win.

Three questions...

1) If I reset my game, can I re-download Mew?
2) The game says that I can "startle" a pokemon during an evolution to keep it's current form. If I do that, (for example) when Cyndaquil reaches level 14, can I evolve Cyndaquil when it reaches level 15?
3) I forgot what my third question was. :(

1. i'm not %100 sure if you can.
2. in order to "startle" a pokemon evolution, press the B button during evolution. if u do this, they next time they grow a level they will try to evolve again. so, to answer your question, yes.

Mimikyu402 October 19th, 2010 4:42 AM

you can download as many mews as you want if you restart each time

Monark360 October 19th, 2010 4:50 AM

Cool, I get to restart with Mew as my main 'mon. Thanks.

I think you'll need access to the first city with a pokemart in order too though ^.^ which isn't too far ;)
Have fun on your mew run.

Mimikyu402 October 21st, 2010 1:44 AM

The only problem is that the mew you get dosent have your ID so its going to disobey you when you dont have the right badges

Monark360 October 21st, 2010 3:53 AM

I never really understood that. How will certain pokemon disobey me?

Usually because you don't have enough badges. If your pokemon's level goes above the limit the badge sets (the game handbook has that under the gym leader section) then it will not recognize you as the trainer and will do what it wants. (ex: take a nap). Some event pokemon disobey you because you dont get them through the event and the flag is not set.

Amore October 21st, 2010 11:23 AM

Just thought I'd expand on that:

If the pokemon does not have the same OT and ID as your trainer's name and ID, it may not obey. So, it's usually traded pokemon, but events, such as the recent Mew, come under the same criteria. Basically, once they hit a certain level, they may not obey (I think it's lv.10...that's when all mine get affected)

it'll disobey you if its level is too high and you don't have enough badges. but for most people, this is is not a big concern because the normal person's pokemon isn't high enough in level to disobey. for the hardcore gamer who wants the pokemon higher than lv 30 before the second badge of higher than 70 before the sixth badge, that's when disobeying pokemon is a problem.
(the normal player usually doesn't have their pokemon much higher than 15 for the second badge or 40 for the sixth badge (probably less than 40).)

the only badge you would ever have to worry about is the first badge, which you need to get your pokemon to obey higher than lv 20. there's a chance if you're only raising like three pokemon or whatever that you'll have pokemon above lv 20. but then again, usually you don't have a traded pokemon before the first badge, and they're the ones that disobey. you can have your starter pokemon or one of the sentrets or hoothoots or whatever that you just caught at lv 100 and they'll still obey you completely. so again, not a problem.

Mimikyu402 October 22nd, 2010 1:49 AM

to above poster you are wrong I once trained my starter on a differnt game to level 100 then traded it back and it still obeyed me the only pokes that will disobey you are pokes with a differnt ID then yours when they reach a certain level:

you can read all about it here under the title drawbacks of trading:

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Trade

Amore October 22nd, 2010 8:03 AM

That makes no sense!

Your pokemon had the same ID number, OT and Secret ID, because it came from the same game! Trading it away then getting it back doesn't change it unless you restart...

Can I trade pokemon between Pokemon Ranger and SS?

JakeyBoy October 22nd, 2010 1:14 PM

Nope. There might be something about moving a Manaphy Egg over from Ranger, dunno what games that's in though.

you can move the manaphy egg to diamond/pearl/platinum. I'm not sure if you can move it to hg/ss I don't think so

Monark360 October 22nd, 2010 1:52 PM

I can trade other pokemon from Ranger to Platinum, then from Platinum to SS, though?

Yup you can give the manaphy egg to Platinum and then trade that with HG/SS requiring you have two DS's and wifi access.

You actually don't need Wi-Fi access; the only time you actually need it is when the person you're trading with is far away from you. So just having 2 DSs with you is fine.

I know for a fact because I have done it myself, that when you are choosing a starter it will show if it is shiny or not on the screen when you are choosing them. You don't have to wait to go to the status screen to check. When I was soft resetting for my shiny totodile it showed on the screen when I was still clicking through pokeballs of the different starters.

As far as I know, this feature is only for HG/SS. Apparently, it was never implemented into Black and White. ):

Am getting lost in the larger caves of HGSS.

Anyone know of a website with picture maps or verbal navigation directives?
