Anyone know of a website with picture maps or verbal navigation directives?

Didn't find any images, but Marriland does have a pretty good walkthrough for the game. You can find the name of the cave you're in on the left hand side, and then follow it from there. I hope this helps you out though; I know how frustrating caves can get. -_-

Whereabouts is the best place to train a fire pokemon in HG.
Can only access areas before the E4.
Looking to train Growlithe up a bit before I get there.
Lapras I can train in Victory Road and Ampharos I can train as I surf around.

I raise every pokemon in the game, so I've had to come up with a good way to train the pokes that are hard to lv at a point in the game (like your growlithe). :

all you need is your lapras, an exp share, and your growlithe. go into victory road and walk around, having lapras at the front of your party and growlithe holding an exp share.
Spoiler:
it'll help to have your lapras hold a smoke ball to escape easily from pokemon you don't want to battle, but it's not necessary.
just battle the pokemon that show up with your lapras. since victory road is full of pokemon that are weak to water (besides golbat, but that's what the smoke ball's for; to escape quickly), it'll only take one hit to kill the gravelers and onixs. and the donphans if lapras is strong enough (if it's not, run from donphans too until you get it strong enough).

this will help raise your lapras and growlithe.

Amore October 26th, 2010 12:58 PM

A word of advice about the above advice, which is incredibly good - Lapras is a dual type Water/Ice pokemon. Therefore, it learns Ice moves which also benefit from the STAB bonus. Golbat are weak to Ice. Teach it an ice move, and you can kill every pokemon you meet in Victory Road.

Elite Overlord LeSabre™ October 26th, 2010 1:01 PM

Just be wary of Lapras' low speed and Golbat's fairly high speed. Those wild Golbat, they love to do Mean Look and Confuse Ray :/

Amore October 26th, 2010 1:44 PM

Yeah, you're right, it isn't worth as much....however, it's seems a waste to run from all them encounters...also, the more Golbat you battle, the faster your pokemon get...whilst this isn't so important on Lapras, Growlithe will also get the EVs, and it's very important for him.

Hey guys, just a reminder. Let's leave the thread for more questions and answers rather than "thank yous" or strayed chit-chat. You can save those for VMs or PMs.

...Who knows, you may meet a new friend a long the way. :]

I've been trying to EV train my Gible and my Bagon using the Advanced Individual Value & Stat Calculator at http://www.legendarypokemon.net/javacalc.html. I put in the following information:
Pokémon Species: Gible
Spoiler:

Nature: Jolly

Type:
Dragon / Ground
Egg Group:
Monster / Dragon
Characteristic *
Thoroughly Cunning
Hidden Power *

Overall Potential *
Decent [0-90]
Best Stat(s) *
Sp.Attack

HP: 60

Atk: 34

Def: 26

Sp.A: 23

Sp.D: 25

Spd: 24

#Dex
Nature Effects:
- - ×0.9 - ×1.1
Base Stats:
58 70 45 40 45 42
Effort Points:
0 1 0 0 0 0

Level 20

but I got this error:

Gible Lv.20 does not compute!
HP (60) should be 53 to 59.
The Effort Points or Nature may be inaccurate.

what gives?

Are you sure that you got the Effort Values right. I doubt it, though. Check the EV's again.

rstevenson1976 October 29th, 2010 9:49 PM

I got it right, I checked multiple times, all the info from the status screen and the judge in the battle tower is accurate.

Bagon gave me a similar error, I'm also using power items if that makes a difference.

Bluerang1 October 30th, 2010 1:11 AM

I'm stuck. I can't go to Pewter, and I can't go to Sea Foam Islands/Cinnabar in Kanto. I don't know what to do. I've beaten the 5 gyms in the area I'm stuck in, and I have my Train Pass from CopyCat.

Christopher October 30th, 2010 1:56 AM

You must wake up snorlax using the radio card you got for restoring the power then you take Diglet cave to Pewter.

The judge tell pokemons IVs not the EVs you have to keep track on the evs yourself while EV training

What type of Pokémon are most effective against Lance? :)

Ice versus his Dragonite, Electric versus the rest of his team. You can also use Water against Charizard and Aerodactyl.

Where's the best place to quickly hatch an egg?
I'm using Battle Tower's slope (you know, before you enter Battle Tower, the slope there...) because I think I can move twice as fast when riding a bike going up and down the slope. Any other places?

I just go up and down Goldenrod and Route 32 in a straight line. That way you also pass by the Daycare frequently. It's pretty much a straight line through town and a part of 32 south of it.

Musica November 5th, 2010 10:08 AM

Thanks. I've tried that too, there was a straight line there that you won't bump anyone or anything for 95 steps, counted it yesterday. Also, just to clarify..

Flame Body + Magma Armor DO NOT stack, right? Both on the party just still halves the steps required to hatch the egg?

Yup you are correct, it doesn't make a difference. It will just normally half the steps.

What does the Exclamation mark on the pokegear's map mean

bobandbill November 7th, 2010 12:56 AM

It means that there is someone who called you/you called on that route who wants to battle you again or give you an item. Small feature that reminds you where to go for the such I guess.

It means someone is waiting for you to rematch them, or they want to give you an item, on that route.

SgtPatches November 11th, 2010 11:16 AM

If I trade a Rotom to Pokémon Soul Silver, turn it into a Frost Rotom, and trade it back to Platinum, will it retain its form?
