I couldnt find this question answered anywhere in here.

Just curious, what happens to the third johto starter pokemon? Does anybody know.
Does it go to some random trainer you never meet in game, maybe to Ethan/Lyra. Ive been wondering for quite a while.

bobandbill November 16th, 2010 3:20 AM

I don't think it is ever mentioned, actually. It randomly disappears and there's no story bit to what happened to it or the such. Interestingly, in Gold/Silver/Crystal though, the Pokemon stayed in the lab. I presume it's a random trainer of no consequence who got it, really.

Or maybe Elm ate it

Fever November 16th, 2010 10:15 AM

Well in that case you dont happen to know what a certain phone call is supposed to mean.
I chose Totodile as my starter, which means the thief rival takes Chikorita.
I randomly got a phone call one day, and then a second another day, from Lyra telling me I should take Cyndaquil for a walk on Route 42 or something. :/

That would probably just be a simple problem with the variables on which starter you chose. There could be a bit of faulty programming that mixed up two variables for that one call, or something.

If I took a digglet with arena trap ability into the safari zone, you think the pokemon ill stop running away on me?

JakeyBoy November 18th, 2010 3:48 PM

No. It's not in battle, so the ability doesn't work. Not to mention I don't believe you have any Pokemon with you in the Safari Zone anyway.

Kenshin5 November 18th, 2010 6:29 PM

I believe the concept for Safari zone was Ball, Food, Rock(or other substitute), Run. In the Bug Catching Contest you get to use your pokemon though, so I am pretty sure that would apply.

Weavile05 November 18th, 2010 6:49 PM

yeah but I don't think pokemon run in the bug catching contest.

If it's an anime, it's going to a new trainer. who woke up late for his/her first pokemon
I remember in the old game, when you click on the last pokeball, it tells you it's Oak's last pokemon so you shouldn't take it. Maybe that's same for Elm...

in the room in the bottom floor of the pokemon center... where you can do trades and stuff with friend codes... what's the thing that says battle frontier do?

Kenshin5 November 21st, 2010 10:10 AM

I think I have used that awhile back. Basically it lets you compete in the battle frontier with other players. You go in there and they have you choose the specific facility you wish to challenge with the other player.

What's a good hold item for Nidoking?

I just got a Nidoking [ :king: =D ] in Soul Silver and when it comes to attacks it's extremely flexible. I'm giving all my Pokemon Type-enhancing items, but I can't figure out what to give Nidoking. Any tips?

MarillBubbles November 21st, 2010 2:59 PM

Well, if you're looking for Poison/Ground type enhancing items what about Poison Barb or Soft Sand? I'd recommend Black Sludge. It's like Leftovers but for Poison types. :)

bobandbill November 21st, 2010 3:03 PM

Merged with the Help thread sticky as that's where questions should go.

And oh look already some answers. =)

mrunner4home November 21st, 2010 3:06 PM

ok what's up with nidoking/queen? I seem to remember them being really strong pokemon but I have them and they're like really weak. what's up with that?

Maybe Leftovers/Black Sludge...

Thanks!

They're not exactly "weak." They're just underwhelming. Nidoqueen specializes in defending while Nidoking specializes in attacking. Nidoqueen's defensive stats of 90 HP/87 Defense/85 Special Defense fall short of other defensive Pokemon, such as Blastoise. Nidoking's offenses of 92 Attack/85 Special Attack fall short of other offensive Pokemon such as Lucario.

What Lyra meant was if you had a Cyndaquil through trade or other methods, take it to Route 42.

Im after an area to gain some levels for battling against the Elite 4 (round 2) and then Red afterwards.
4 of the 6 in my team are under Lv.60 as they were somewhat later additions to the team.
Any ideas?

Either go for trainer rematches via the phone (full list here), or gym leader rematches (how to get numbers + calling times here). Note you can re-battle a specific trainer as many times as you want within that time period specified - you just have to call them again. Other than that, there's wild Pokemon on Mt Silver, I suppose...

I'm Torn

Lately I've been so torn between soulsilver and platinum. I can't decide which one i want to use as my main game. I LOVE soulsilvers graphics and all the new little details. If they were just mixed with platinum it would have been the ultimate game. My biggest problem is training. I'm finding that there are times when i play there isn't much options to train in soulsilver except for the league over and over which gets a tad boring after a bit. I just wish they had the vs seeker still. I've got the gym leaders numbers but idk i always miss their times and so forth. Is there some place i'm missing that can make this easier? The lack of the vs seeker is driving me back to platinum but i long for soulsilvers aesthetics.

bobandbill November 24th, 2010 4:31 AM

Well you can always change the time if you want - as long as you don't care about time-specific things for the time being (like berries and whatnot) which would be affected by the time-changing, you can use that to your advantage to refight people.

There's also your rival at the E4 at certain times/days, Red reappears after each time you beat the E4, and there's other trainers to call too which after a few battls end up being pretty decent so you can call at least someone at any specific day and time afaik. There are no other options afaik though bar wild Pokemon, and that's boring.

nm legend November 29th, 2010 5:03 PM

why doesn't my riolu wanna breed.......does it have to be a lucario?

thanks to whoever can confirm this for me....

Kenshin5 November 29th, 2010 5:11 PM

It depends what you are trying to breed Riolu with, you may be breeding it with an incompatible Egg Group. I believe I had breed Riolu in the past with out problems so I don't see that it would be an issue because it is not evolved.
