I heard Red was tough?

I haven't fought him but when I do I plan not to use Legends and my normal team :P

How about you guys? Or have you fought him already, and who did you use?

Livewire March 29th, 2010 7:39 PM

well he's the strongest trainer in existance.. if your guys arent around lvl 70 dont even bother.

EDIT: better yet be at 75+ so you'll at least stand a chance. well with legends you should be mostly ok, unless you bring suicune or lugia, which will get annihalated by his godly pikachu

I Tried Voodoo Once March 29th, 2010 7:42 PM

i killed him with
feraligatr lv 71
arcanine lv76
charizard lv 68
and raichu lv 69

he has strong pokes, he just plays like an idiot

for example, i have my arcanine out against his venusaur, he used sunny day, i use flare blitz, hes dead, switches to charizard, charizard used flamethrower(i think it was) arcanines flash fire boosted its fire moves, arcanine used flare blitz, charizard fainted...

Red fail

DXrobots March 29th, 2010 7:44 PM

How does he compare with the battle in the original version?

see some people said they whipped him, but i heard from others that he destroyed them. i think they try to set up something on him and it backfires

Ricky429 March 29th, 2010 7:47 PM

He was the most difficult trainer in the game for me although 5 of my pokes were like 25 lvls lower than his. I used:
Typhlosion lvl 79
Tyranitar lvl 56
Ampharos lvl 57
Octillery lvl 56
Feraligatr lvl 55
and a Noctowl lvl 59

His Blastoise was the hardest for me taking out 4 of my pokes and i just used revives and full restores after that and won quite easily after that.

GSCyndaquil19 March 29th, 2010 7:57 PM

i tried, all my pokes were in the 50s,i lost

Arc March 29th, 2010 7:58 PM

Red is THE highest level trainer in the Pokemon Series. So he is a force to reckon with, if your not prepared. Your pokemon should be Lv 75+ just to be safe. I beat Red with my normal team in my signature. I also whipped Red with my Competitive team.

ILoveDragonite March 29th, 2010 8:56 PM

Red will murder you unless you grind, alot.

Full team level 70-80 i suggest.

CrashSmAshley March 29th, 2010 9:26 PM

I'm excited for this battle. Most other trainers aren't too challenging lol

Bird Keeper March 29th, 2010 10:11 PM

I haven't faced him yet, but I've been told that if you're less than 75-80 level, it all comes down to skilled item use. X items (X-Speed and such), Max Revives, Sacred Ash, etc.

If you're in the 75+ range, you have a much better chance of winning force-against-force just as if it was a conventional battle.

So remember: If there's a trick, it's items!

curiousnathan March 29th, 2010 10:20 PM

Red is the most powerful trainer in excistence, but he can be defeated every trainer has a weakness. But just be careful, Pikachu + Red = Domination.
Once his pikachu zoomed into play you better be ready for it. I battled him on my original Pokemon Gold GBC and he was strong! I used my Lv 70 Feraligatr and three Lv 60-70 Golducks. I know my team sounds stupid, I wasn't that much experienced. But it still got the job done didn't it. I indeed defeated him. But after that what was there left to do in the game?

Anyway, my tips for you is just train train train (GRIND) alot, and make sure your pokemon are about Lv 75 and higher!
As for my HG team that I wish to defeat him with is this:

zealot March 29th, 2010 10:26 PM

He got easier than before. In gsc there was no weather, but now there is the hail effect going on, which means that all his pokes take damage execpt lapras. You can stall him out and get rid of his pesky snorlax faster now.

Joe10136 March 29th, 2010 10:32 PM

I actually beat him with my lvl 100 swampert xD I actually tried first, Lost(didn't have swampert) then decided to trade over mine from Pearl. Only reason why i did that, Couldn't get past that beast of a pikachu o.o

Izzy1179 March 29th, 2010 10:36 PM

Make sure your pokemon are lvl 70+ or else your gonna have major trouble with him.

Kon~ March 29th, 2010 11:02 PM

All his 'mons are in the 80s:
(From Bulbapedia)

Pikachu Lv.88
Lapras Lv.80
Snorlax Lv.82
Venusaur Lv.84
Charizard Lv.84
Blastoise Lv.84

You'd need a pretty high leveled and diverse team in order to take him on easily. I'm not up to him yet, but in Gold, I took him on with a Lv 100 Feraligatr and only just managed to win, mainly because of that damn yellow rat. :/

MASTERBOSSgodora March 29th, 2010 11:10 PM

I used Typhlosion, Ampharos, Lugia, Mewtwo, Ho-oh, and Snorlax. His pikachu was pretty weak, I just used one earthquake from my then level 52 Snorlax.

gdmatt March 29th, 2010 11:11 PM

His Pikachu isn't all that hard to take out, I sent out a Level 55 Tyranitar which made his Pikachu useless, and Red didn't even switch him out. The team I beat him with was:
Feraligatr Lv70
Ampharos Lv71
Magmortar Lv65
Spiritomb Lv74
Tyranitar Lv55
Metagross Lv48

Kikaito plush March 30th, 2010 12:03 AM

I always planned to beat him with my team eevee..

which is..

Flareon
vaporeon
jolteon
espeon
umbreon
Leafeon/glaceon/eevee

batmon March 30th, 2010 12:39 AM

I beat him last time on Crystal with a team all in the 50s and 40s, so since his team got beefed up about ten levels I expect the same.

Mr Marine March 30th, 2010 12:46 AM

If you have tactics up your sleeve he wont be tuff to defeat

Lower his stats poison him and stuff ,His pika pwnd my Feraligatr

Ninja Caterpie March 30th, 2010 12:53 AM

If you have tactics, it won't be hard.

I plan to defeat him with a mixture of sheer power, flinchax and Milk Drink.

loliwin March 30th, 2010 12:54 AM

Pikachu was kinda a beast to beat, but I just killed him with my level 65 Garchomp.... go Earthquake!

You dont get that much experience from a lv 88 Pikachu though... >_>

batmon March 30th, 2010 12:56 AM

I'm just happy he didn't decide to make it a Raichu yet, that would be a much tougher fight :paranoid:

CoffeeWolf March 30th, 2010 1:02 AM

I OHKO his Pikachu with earthquake
beat his Blastoise, Snorlax, and Lapras with my Electrivire
beat his Charizard with my Feraligatr
beat his Venasaur with my Arcanine..

the only healing item I use is a Hyper Potion once on my Electivire so it lasts through all 3 Pokemon. :P I'm somewhat cheap but it works out

carter756978 March 30th, 2010 8:58 AM

first time i beat him was with lv 87 typhlosion. Second time was with a lv 87 feraligtr

.тαмєя March 30th, 2010 9:02 AM

I plan to Lv up my team to about Lv 72 Until I even attempt Battling Red ;|

Ooka March 30th, 2010 9:07 AM

I've heard as long as you bring plenty of revives he's easy. Hail takes 1/16th of his Pokemon's health each turn, so all of him Pokemon die in 16 turns aside from Lapras without you even attacking. So in 80 turns all of his Pokemon are dead if you don't factor in him healing them. But yeah, I thought he was easy.

The Doctor March 30th, 2010 9:10 AM

I havent fought him yet, my pokemon and in their late 50's and IM ON THE LAST LEADER! Gym Leader Blue. Im trading over my level 100 Magmortar and Venusar though

.hack March 30th, 2010 9:15 AM

I beat him with:
Typloshion lv.79
Heracross lv.82
Miltank lv.81
Lugia= lv.71
Raikou lv.67
-Sacrrfice poke (For reviving)-

A few max revives and Hyper potions and I won first try =D

Amore March 30th, 2010 9:19 AM

Lol.I'm glad he doesn't have an Espeon (Sabrina's killed my Politoed,Marowak, and Lugia without dropping into yellow health.I had to use Draco Meteor, then parahax with Dragonbreath to defeat her-Dialga rules.)

Do you need HMs to get to him?Because if you do, I'll fail.Otherwise...

Marowak will Bone (merang) that Pikachu, Politaro (Politoed) will Surf over Charizard, Bounce Venusaur to death, then my Hypnosis+Substitute+Focus Punch Poli (Poliwrath) will pwn the other 3.Or, if not, Suicune might help

SCV058 March 30th, 2010 9:24 AM

I know you must have Rock Climb. Rock smash and Strength I think, but I'm not sure. Fly will help you leave...if you don't want to go all the way back down.

Ooka March 30th, 2010 9:29 AM

I think all you need is Rock Climb. At least that's all I seem to remember needing. Don't really remember, it's been about 50 hours of gameplay since I battled him. :/

linkinpark187 March 30th, 2010 9:42 AM

I don't remember exact levels, but when I fought him in the Japanese Heart Gold, my Pokémon were in their mid 50's. You don't have to use high level Pokémon, just make sure you have a good strategy going in.

Eggie Poo Poo March 30th, 2010 11:32 AM

It ain't much of a challenge in my opinion, not anywhere near like it was years ago. His Snorlax doesn't have Rest and Snore (a true cheap, lame and extremely frustrating combo, which was the hardest part about Red) making his Snorlax a piece of cake. Also constant hail weakens the Snorlax and all his other Pokemon.

So yeah overall pretty easy. And his Lapras doesn't do squat.

^.hydro March 30th, 2010 11:35 AM

I migrated my team up from Emerald (Below, in my sig) all EV'd lv 100, it was a cake walk

Ooka March 30th, 2010 11:37 AM

That takes the fun out of it though don't you think? I mean, it's fun having a challenge, but having Pokemon that just make it "Click the right move" ends up being pretty boring. :P

But to each their own, I prefer the harder approach, and of course some people like it to be extremely easy. XD

Serene Grace March 30th, 2010 11:39 AM

I plan to have my Pokemon about level 78-85 for my battle against Red. I'm also not going to use any legendaries, just some pretty good tactics (once I come up with them XD.)

CharizardTrainer March 30th, 2010 11:43 AM

I beat him yesterday with only my level 82 Typhloshion and my level 80 Mewtwo. You're going to need pokemon in the 80's to defeat him. Make sure you have a pokemon with Earthquake to get rid of his level 88 Pikachu. It's his highest level pokemon.

I was so happy, though. I got a Charmander from Oak!

Zebeedoo March 30th, 2010 12:00 PM

Hmm... he sounds like a challenge indeed. My Poke'mon are in their 50's right now, but I've got my lv 100 Flareon with me. So hopefully, she'll be enough. =)

Corrupted Yummer March 30th, 2010 3:37 PM

He wasnt too tough once you lost to him a few times and assemble a strategy based on your poke's lvls.

My team was
Typhlosion 66
Staraptor 57
Weavile 53
Ampharos 61
Suicune 47
graveler 44 (picked up on the way for pikachu) always did this in gold/silver.

since his team was boosted about 10lvls each poke i had to use the new weather effected battle "hail" to my advantage.
i eliminated all of his team pretty fast with only 3-5 revives/potions till i hit snorlax. managed to get him to swap it out then after a bit on lapras(only one not affected by the hail) i found the toughest, snorlax was back. couldnt do much since all his moves 1 or 2 hit my team. so i'd either revive and let hail work him over or sneak a flamethrower with typhlosion and repeat. since that kid had 3 full restores it took about 20 minutes. but it was quiet the epic battle. levels dont matter to much. come prepared.

Yoak March 30th, 2010 3:54 PM

I'm toast... I'm struggling as it is.

Typhlosion Lvl 51
Poliwrath lvl 47
Togetic Lvl 46
Jumpluff lvl 47
Pupitar lvl 47
Jirachi lvl 49

How am I going to defeat blue

Bolanboy March 30th, 2010 4:07 PM

I actually thought he was pretty easy, but all my Pokemon were 70-75.

Typhlosion
Crobat
Ampharos
Mismagius
Slowking
Kingler (HM slave)

Only little trouble I had was with his darn Snorlax. :<

NDS525 March 30th, 2010 4:11 PM

I'm guessing that Red is stronger in the remakes because of the stronger AI...

Be prepared and grind!

Kirbychu March 30th, 2010 4:54 PM

I beat him with Pokemon in the mid 50s; first try. It took tons of revives, and my trusty exploding Muk.

Left4Dead March 30th, 2010 4:58 PM

I fought him with my team all around 58 (I have 5 Pokemon) & I got crushed, I tried a few more times but with no luck. So I did some training and I had:
Gliscor
Feraligatr
Flareon
Ampharos &
Togekiss
All at level 67

Sent out Gliscor 1st, Pikachu's Iron tail missed, boom, 1 earthquake and Pikachu is out.
He sent out Lapras and I sent out Ampharos, He used Blizzard & I used thunderbolt which paralyzed him then I used another, boom, Lapras is out.
Then out came Blastoise (WHY?? FAIL!) and the same thing happened with him.
Out comes Charizard, I healed up Ampharos but got killed by Flare blitz, he was paralyzed by Static and took a fair bit of damage off himself, I sent out my level 17 Nidoqueen and used a Max Revive on Ampharos. He kills Nidoqueen and Ampharos thunderbolts him.
Next up is Snorlax, Managed to Paralyze him with thunderwave but he kills me, Togekiss then comes out and I Aura Sphere him to death lol
Then out comes Venusaur and I switch to Gligar, Aerial Ace him a bit but he keeps healing and knocks me out with Giga Drain. I sent Togekiss back out and destroyed him with Air Slash. Boom, Red defeated. :D

Xine March 30th, 2010 7:50 PM

i dunno why everyone's here seems have trouble with that pikachu o.0
i pwn Red with four lvl. 55 and two lvl 70 pokes, lol

my team that time was :
Tyranitar (lvl. 55)
Ho-oh (lvl. 70)
Mewtwo (lvl. 70)
Ampharos (lvl. 55)
Gyarados (lvl. 55)
Lugia (lvl. 55)

Tyranitar can pretty much OHKO Red's charizard and pikachu :)

(yes, this team suck. its because i want to beat the game really quick in my first runthrough in the japanese version)

Katie_Q March 30th, 2010 10:10 PM

Reads all above posts. Sheesh I'm going to need to grind. Hard. *Starts having nightmares of Reds blastoise taking out her fire type team*

Glow Worm's Not Glowing April 2nd, 2010 2:41 PM

I just beat Red now. My team was underleveled, but I finally did it.

Tyranitar - lvl 62
Typhlosion - lvl 62
Ampharos - lvl 61
Breloom - lvl 54
Staraptor - lvl 38
Steelix - lvl 27

Staraptor and Steelix were mainly for insurance purposes so I didn't lose, but it was a tough fight. Pikachu kept pwning my Tyranitar until I finally went in there and he started missing, so I earthquaked him once and kaput. The rest of the battle was smooth sailing.

PokemonLeagueChamp April 2nd, 2010 2:46 PM

I had plenty of Full Restores, 5 regular Pokes, and my TRU Arceus. OHKO on EVERY SINGLE ONE of my first 5. Arceus utterly annihilated Red, barely taking damage.

Chrono April 2nd, 2010 5:34 PM

^ You should try beating him without any legends.

TheClickKid April 2nd, 2010 5:37 PM

Red stomped me. I got to his took down his pikachu and was murked by his Blastiose

ILoveDragonite April 2nd, 2010 5:48 PM

O_O ....... You beat him with that? God he must be over rated brb killing red.

Gulpin April 2nd, 2010 6:31 PM

He's actually fairly easy if you know what is super effective against his Pokemon. After Blue, my team was level 61, and after spending about 8 hours leveling my whole team to 75 through gym leader rematches I climbed Mr. Silver just to see if I would ever stand a chance. And I swept his team with no sweat. I think he only fainted like 2 of my team O.o

-Jake April 2nd, 2010 7:44 PM

On my second try I beat him with Pokemon in their early 70's. He actually isn't that difficult, it's just the first time I wasn't really thinking.

インフェルノの津波 April 3rd, 2010 12:34 AM

I think he's only tough if you go in without a strategy or you don't know his team. If you do, it's a piece of cake.

humanguy2000 April 3rd, 2010 1:33 AM

I've seen a video of battling red on youtube. His pokemon are from levels 80-90 I think.

seal April 3rd, 2010 2:22 AM

If you bring plenty of Full Restores, use Hail to your advantage and bring along LV70 Ho-oh and Mewtwo he isn't that hard.

Famastar April 3rd, 2010 4:59 AM

He was surprisingly easy for me, I just beat him with a team of 1 level 67 and the rest all around level 70. O.o

TheGearofWar April 3rd, 2010 11:11 AM

I used Gloom, Sneasel, Togetic, Teddiursa, and Chinchou. Most of his Pokemon were 2HKO's, so... Lol

He was pretty easy.

Diablerie April 3rd, 2010 4:40 PM

I took Pikachu on with my Lv51 Golem. He used Iron Tial on Golem, but Golem had one of those berries that cut a super-effective Steel attack in half. Then when it was Golem's turn he used Earthquake and took Pikachu down in one shot.

HDmvp41 April 3rd, 2010 4:57 PM

i beat red with a lvl 75 feraligatr lvl 75 mewtwo lvl 64 ampharos lvl 62 ho-oh and lvl 56 torterra. i ended up using alot of revives lol

Vulpixer April 3rd, 2010 6:28 PM

I went in feeling high and mighty. I forgot how strong he was. I thought he's be just a bit harder than the Kanto Leaders, whom I beat moderately easy enough, but his Pikachu just massacred me. even my prize Arcanine.... I definitly have a lot of grinding to do before then. But I have Mewtwo now and he really helps you out with the whole pikachu problem.

Swolligator April 3rd, 2010 8:16 PM

I managed to pwn red up with just my Lvl 100 Feraligatr. It knew Ice Fang, Crunch, Waterfall and Hydro Pump, only had to revive twice!

Chunes April 3rd, 2010 10:55 PM

I tanked his whole team with level 70 Mewtwo, lol. All you have to do is use a crapton of x defense and special defense and keep healing. A couple of his pokemon I did not even hit with an attack. The hail killed them, lol.

stargate1995 April 3rd, 2010 11:07 PM

How was he strong i owned him with only the lvl 80-85 typlhosion i started with, don't see why everyones saying pikachu was a tank it was probably the second easiest to beat, below the venasuar. The hardest was the lapras as it seemed to take alot more hits then it should.

Stan the man April 3rd, 2010 11:36 PM

Simon (swalot) and hitmonnorris (hitmonlee.) Took him out pretty quickly, no thanks to hitmonorris ( he died half way through pikachu.) as soon as i sent out swalot he switched to blatoise. I had like no hp left when he sent out pikachu so i did the good old pain split and took it down.

Meta-Morph April 3rd, 2010 11:45 PM

Eh, Red is not as tough as he was. If he wasn't a stupid AI, like if he had the programming of a Pokemon Champion(the ones online), he would kill us all.

Yusshin April 4th, 2010 12:28 AM

I'd like to see an AI that understand Super Effective and Not Very Effective attacks lol and basic combinations, like Sunny Day + Solar Beam.

That'd be fun :P

Zachary96 April 10th, 2010 10:01 AM

well i found it pretty easy, i grinded.... SOOOOO much with the pokemon i plan to keep in my party, my invincible team i reckon, are in my signature, i got them all up to 90 and taught my Feraligatr and Sceptile, the ultimate moves (Hydro Cannon + Frenzy Plant) i didnt have sceptile on me at the time, i just had my level 72 Jolteon instead.
Feraligatr - Quality = 90
Jolteon - Skill = 72
Nidoking - Aggression = 90
Magmortar - Respect = 90
Latios - Amazement = 90
Garchomp - Capability = 90

Totodile! April 10th, 2010 10:07 AM

It depends on how tough you trained and also if you have a good tactics to beat him.
He wasn't that tough for me ... the tough part was to train all my pokémon to a high level (I trained to level 82).

GlitchCity April 10th, 2010 11:42 AM

No I havent. Im procrasonating. Im abusing the E4 right now to level up my Team, and I dont plan to use any legendaries when I fight him.

LethalTexture April 10th, 2010 12:05 PM

When I beat him, my team consisted of Pikachu, Charizard, Feraligatr, Golem, Togekiss and Gyarados, all Level 75. I used my Pikachu against his, and despite being 13 levels lower, I was faster. My Pikachu used Thunder, which took off two thirds of Red's Pikachu's HP, and paralysed it. It was unable to move, so on the next turn I used Thunder again, praying that it wouldn't miss. It didn't, and my Pikachu defeated his. I have never been so proud of one of my Pokémon before.

I only used two Full Restores throughout the battle, no revives, and a Set battle style.

KieronGames April 10th, 2010 12:09 PM

well when i was facing red( i lost :( )
when i had my ho-oh which i foolishly turne doff my game and lost ho-oh
i brought him out against his pikachu(pikachu usually uses volt tackle) which wipes ho-oh out but does about 100 damage to pikachu, i switch to geodude and revive ho-oh, geodude does some damage then i switch back to ho-oh who pikachu uses volt tackle on and then pikachu faints due to recoil. thats how you beat pikachu :/

littlealiengirl April 10th, 2010 1:06 PM

I thought he was pretty easy. I climbed Mt Silver for the sake of getting them items and gaining some levels so I didn't go up there thinking I could beat him, I only tried because I was there and I figured why not try. Pikachu went down in one hit to quagsire's earthquake despite her being 22 levels lower. Venusaur fell in one hit to level 60-something skarmory, though that was harder to land. Snorlax and lapras went down quickly to level 70-something hitmonchan. Charizard was brought down by level 70-something mismagius. Blastoise was the only one I had any problem with, I had to revive hitmonchan a few times just to take him down. It would have been a lot easier if Red didn't keep healing him.

Don't listen to those that say you have to have a high level team because you don't. It might make it easier but it all depends on your pokemon and their movesets.

Amore April 10th, 2010 1:10 PM

I have a feeling my team will get pwnd.

However, luckily, if I don't evolve Dragonair (I don't plan to, although Dragonite can learn Earthquake), then it'll have resistance to Volt Tackle, so a Draco Meteor+Extremespeed combo should finish it.

Absol,Dragonair,Sneasel,Honchkrow,Lapras,Espeon=my team. If I get Superpower, Absol will take out Lapras, and he doesn't stand a chance against my Lapras.

EJ April 10th, 2010 1:19 PM

I lost to Red but its possible to beat him with what I have.

My team is all lvl 55-57s. I brought him down to his last pokemon and nearly won but I lost because my Typhlosion was poisoned.

I needed more revives (I only have 5)

ParadoxVoid April 10th, 2010 1:26 PM

I'm not sure if anyone said this yet, but his team is a Level 88 Pikachu, (I think it's 88, definately in the 80's) A Level 84-89 Blastiose, Charizard, and Venasaur. Then an 86-89 Snorlax and Lapras. This isn't in order, the order is randomized, but it starts out with Pikachu, then the three Kanto starters, then Lapras and Snorlax. He has a few Full Restores, and all of his Pokemon are really tough. They gave my LVL 100 Feraligatr a rough time. And they killed my 96 Arceus really easily. My advice, bring some Full Restores and Max Revives. As far as the Pokemon to bring, I'd bring a Rock type, Water type, Fire type, a grass type, and a fighting type. Best of luck!

A pure ground is helpful for that nasty pikachu.

The Pikachu wasn't very hard for me, just got lucky with a critical hit from Close Combat. Hitmonchan, I love you so. But honestly, the Venasaur gave me a lot of trouble. When I finally did get it's health low, Red used a Full Restore. Then I nearly snapped my DSi in half.

EJ April 10th, 2010 1:45 PM

That Venusaur was actually the last pokemon against MY last pokemon. Typhlosion had just killed his pikachu from a critical hit flamethrower (choice specs) after Red gave it a full restore. So it was Venusaur vs. Typhlosion, so there's like a 30 lvl difference between the two. He threw a sludge bomb that poisoned typhlosion. Typhlosion then NEARLY killed his Venusaur...and then Typhlosion died from poison.

D: I might just give up and grind more.

daveyp1997 April 10th, 2010 2:05 PM

wow..........everyone says his pikachu's the bomb but i always kill him in one hit with my 75 typhlo

To my defense, I'm extremely underleveled hahaha xD

Heart's Soul April 10th, 2010 2:20 PM

Really? I just traded クレセリア over and I beat Red without any trouble. First try, did not get a single Pokemon KOd, got my Giratina up a fair few levels. (Oh, クレセリア means Cresselia, lv. 100, had Psycho Cut, Return, Moonlight, Substiture, and Adamant nature, if I am right)

Circuit April 10th, 2010 2:23 PM

I beat him soundly with lvl63 - 69s. I don't see why people say his Pikachu is good. Gyarados' Earthquake took him down in one, then the rest of his team was even easier.

Spikey-Eared Pichu April 10th, 2010 3:00 PM

First playthrough, I beat him with my overleveled team (Lv.95 Typhlosion, Togekiss, Espeon, Heracross, Lapras, and Ampharos). I did this to give Red some respect. I mean, what World Champion wouldn't hang himself if he was beaten by a bunch of Lv.50s compared to his Lv.80s? Hahahah

Blaziquaza April 10th, 2010 6:33 PM

Bah, it took me two tries, although i got lucky. A text scene that I one with:
The foe's VENUSAUR used Frenzy Plant!
ARCEUS used Judgement!
The foe's VENUSAUR fainted!
... That's how i won on SS.

lusterclaw April 10th, 2010 6:40 PM

i havent realy vs him yet

zerwey April 10th, 2010 6:56 PM

Is it possible to beat Red with Lvl 90-100 Typhlosion and Sceptile? Or should I consider adding Charmander, Infernape, and Garchomp?

SUTANRII April 10th, 2010 7:45 PM

I've lost twice because of poor decisions. I am planning on leveling up a team, especially for him though. :) His weakest, I believe is his Pikachu which I killed in one-hit, both times I faced him. Pathetic pikachu xD

Geo_mani April 11th, 2010 2:16 AM

I don't remember the levels of my pokemon when I beat him,but he was difficult.I used revives and full restores all the time.

Mimikyu402 April 11th, 2010 3:40 AM

Im goint to use my team I used through the game:
Garchomp
Scizor
Starmie
they are currently on level 65-66
but Im goint to keep beating 2nd round E4 until Im ready to take on Red, Also I think its cheap to use Legends on Red instead of Using A team you worked hard to train

PS all my pokes I used was transfered at the begining of the game as eggs from platinum

Cyndahog April 11th, 2010 4:39 AM

I beat him pretty easily (with the help of a couple of revives of course) with a team of 5 ranging from 66-68. Though, if you're going to try and beat Red with no healing items, you'd want to be pretty high up.

Andrew1989 April 11th, 2010 6:19 AM

While I haven't reached him yet in my Soul Silver file, you'll have a real hard time trying to beat him if your pokémons aren't trained well enough (ie: in their mid 70's) and are well prepared (ie: a Lot of Revives / Max Potions / Full Heal's). Luckily, unlike the battle in G/S/C, I've heard he's gotten even "easier" as there's now Hail to hit most of his Pokémons. Also - most of his Pokémons are now weak to Electric types (because they got rid of Espeon for a Lapras which I found stupid on Nintendo's part).

[strike]thank god they didn't get rid of Snorlax. Or that would have made Red easier than the Elite Four :D[/strike]

ParadoxVoid April 11th, 2010 6:30 AM

I have found they base his team off of the anime, much to my disgust. But I suppose they can't base it off of anything else. And in the anime, his team was Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Snorlax, Lapras, Espeon. But hey, it was Lapras or Espeon, and there isn't room for both. They went with the stronger Pokemon. Plus, we already fought a trainer with Espeon. The Kimono Girls. I think they made a good choice for the layout. Oh, and try facing him using the GB Sounds. Great music mix. ^.^

I wouldn't be so disgusted with the anime if they just stopped after Hoenn. Now it's a children's program for kids who don't even play the games.

Hail makes Red tougher due to the fact that half of his team has blizzard. So Dragonite is pretty much useless.
Go with Lanturn.

Actually, he had an Espeon in G/S/C when you fought him. And yes, though he never had one in the anime, that's what the Eevee was supposed to become. Through happiness during the day. Do you think RED would make it happy at night?

Oh my god, I think I'm in love. Happy at night? I hope you don't mean what I think you mean.

Oh, I do. I really, really, do.
