75+ and revives. Always works.

jle1076 April 20th, 2010 10:28 AM

I beat his whole team with my level 85 Garchomp, had to revive once from lapras, but thats it

+ why would you have a tough time with Venasaur and Charizard with a Psychic and a Water?

And I swept his team with no sweat. I think he only fainted like 2 of my team O.o

Precisely, Red is a joke now, he's not really hard at all. None of you really need to get worked up over him, if you have a good type balanced team that covers different types, then you should be good to go.

I used:

Feraligatr
Tyranitar
Ampharos
Ho-Oh
Gengar
Dragonite

Worked out easy and I pwned him. My whole team was exactly level 73.

wat???

What game are you playing?

because it sure can't be HG/SS

MasterLink742 April 20th, 2010 4:06 PM

Some people beat him easily, with level 50-60
Others have trouble at level 80-90
I personally haven't gotten to that part.

IxFlashPointxI April 20th, 2010 4:18 PM

I killed him with
Lvl 68 Tyranitar
Lvl 70 Ho-Ho
Lvl 71 Scizor
Lvl 68 Metagross
Lvl 60 Blastoise
Lvl 82 Luxray

In my case, both Venusaur and Charizard would outspeed my Pokémon and dish nearly 50% damage per blow, giving me few opportunities to strike. Against Venusaur in particular Gardevoir kept getting KO'd to last moment poison from Sludge Bomb as well as nasty Critical Hits, so I didn't bother much bringing her back in afterward.

A Lv61 Vaporeon's Surf doesn't damage Charizard much either, with the risk of getting flinched by Air Slash I'm better off stalling with Protect + Aqua Ring until it's HP drops to KO range.

Ray Maverick April 24th, 2010 6:33 AM

I only beat him with my Jolteon Lv 58 and my Feraligatr Lv 62. and with 30 Hyper Potions

poopydude April 24th, 2010 6:35 AM

i haven't gotten up to red yet in Soul Silver but back in the days of crystal i beat him with a level 70 Feraligatr and a 65 snorlax

TCB April 24th, 2010 6:47 AM

All my pokemon were between levels 58 and 63; it took me three times to beat him and a lot strategy (and that Snorlax...god...).

Eric. April 24th, 2010 7:41 AM

He was nothing. I defeated Pikachu and Venusaur in one hit with flamethrower from my Lv 100 Typhlosion. Blastoise and Snorlax were the hardest to kill do to the fact that Blastoise is a water type and snorlax has the health and defense. Charzard and Lapras where in the middle.

The Original Darkwiz787 April 24th, 2010 7:44 AM

I just started Kanto (At Misty's Gym ATM) and my Typhlosion is already level 66, so Red shouldn't be too tough for me based on these other posts.

I want to beat him with his own team.

MistahDude April 24th, 2010 9:03 PM

Red used to have a defensive strategy to him in the originals, but now all of his pokemon just have over powered moves.

Lockmaster24 April 25th, 2010 1:42 AM

i used the lv 70 lugia as a sheild to absorb the pikachus Volt tackle.

The fact that Hail makes Blizzard never miss is great. He uses Blizzard on Empoleon :D

other than that i alternated between my Feraligatr and Empoleon

Vena was annoying so i use my extremly low leveled Scizor (compared to him like lv. 40~)

X-Scissor :D pity i'm ditching it.

In the end those Giga Drain killed me so i grinded agaist Sabrina (she was fun)

until Red finally crumbled beneath my feet.

Gannon81 April 25th, 2010 2:15 AM

i haven't defeated him yet but people are saying his pikachu is hard to beat yet that and his espeon are they only pokes i have beaten, one earthquake from a level 61 Torterra defeated his pikachu :/

Pokemon1222 April 25th, 2010 3:24 AM

Red Is VERY Hard, It Took Me Several Tries With Different Teams To Kill Him, He Has The Most Strongest Pokemon In Singleplayer I've Ever Seen...
Lvl 88 Pikachu (Has Light Ball)
Lvl 84 Charizard,Venusaur And Blastoise
Lvl 80 Lapras
Lvl 82 Snorlax
Be VERY Prepared If Anyone Has Lower Leveled Pokemon Then The List Above I Wrote.

Suzune April 25th, 2010 3:42 AM

I used the following :
Typhlosion
Togekiss
Pidgeot
Gyrados
Ampharos
Lapras

All around level 60. The battle took awhile, but I won.

After That, I used my Competitive Team. That made it pretty easy, so I'm glad I didn't do that first.

Pokestick, good times. April 25th, 2010 3:55 AM

I haven't really cared to go up there yet ^_^;

I do think I could defeat him fairly easily, atleast when I train up my Dragonite and Umbreon, thus finishing my team >:D

...But Mt. Silver requires some Hms to get up, right? That'll cause problems, how did you guys get around it?

Porygon-Z April 25th, 2010 4:18 AM

My team were all lvl 63-65 and it was easy.

I just set up reflect and light screen with my bronzong, exploded it, then set up dragon dance with my dragonite and swept him.

However I did use potions.

To reach Red you only need Rock Climb, though to go after all the goodies inside the cave Surf, Waterfall and Rock Smash are needed too. At the very least you only need a HM Slave for Rock Climb, unless you use Rock Climb on your team members.

Ah I see. Currently the only one I have that knows Rock Climb is a level 13 Geodude, So I'll just have to learn it to someone else.. (;._.)

Xyrin April 25th, 2010 10:27 AM

I should've gotten a electric type. My stinking water weakness... I can 1 Hit KO his Pikachu with Earthquake with my62 Donphan.

TrilbyMenetti April 25th, 2010 10:55 AM

Having only just beaten Red in the past few minutes, I will say this. Red is hard. Very hard. Much harder than he was back in Gold/Silver/Crystal and as a youngster, I thought he was hard then, but he's much more difficult here. I had to use plenty of full restores and revives to win. The hail was irritating too, but it could be used as both an advantage and disadvantage.

This was my team at the time of defeating Red:

http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/160.png Snapper the Feraligatr (Lv.70)

http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/168.png Webslinger the Ariados (Lv.70)

http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/468.png Hardboiled the Togekiss (Lv.67)

http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/185.png Stumpy the Sudowoodo (Lv.67)

http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/197.png Bagheera the Umbreon (Lv.67)

http://www.pokemonelite2000.com/sprites/plmfa/57.png Tarzan the Primeape (Lv.70)

His Pikachu, which I didn't think was too much of a threat before is a powerful beast. Luckily, my Primape knew Close Combat, which took out Pikachu in one hit and thankfully didn't paralyze me on impact (like it did on previous tries).

The order he sends his Pokemon out vary and my tries all differed, but let's just do them in the order I recall battling him against.

Blastoise was next and he was fairly difficult to take on, since I had no Pokemon with Grass or Electric moves. With no clear advantage I sent out Umbreon (which with Red no longer owning an Espeon like he did in G/S/C, had no chance to dominate the battle) to whittle it down. It died pretty soon into the battle and its attacks hardly mattered when Red used his one of many full restores. If I remember correctly, I sent out a mix of Feraligatr, Ariados, Togekiss and Primeape to finish it off. Took a while, but it worked.

Charizard was next and this was pretty easy. Sudowoodo defeated it with one Rock Slide.

Lapras (which replaced Espeon) was a little difficult. Again, I think I weakened it down with several Pokemon, before sending out Primeape again to use Close Combat.

Snorlax has thankfully been made a tad easier without Rest, but he was still difficult and his HP took a while to take down. Using a few Pokemon again, before I sent out Primeape again with Close Combat was my strategy once again.

Venusaur was next and boy this was annoying. I tried to keep Feraligatr, Togekiss and Ariados alive for this battle. Red kept using full restores on Venusaur, much to my fury to the point where I wanted to throw a DS across the screen, but after some time, my Ariados (good resistance to its moveset) and Psychic were enough to end the battle.

And cue anti-climatic ending. Next time, I'm going to take the time to raise my Pokemon to a more even level. Next time Red, I shall kick your arse properly.

Arcanine1993 April 25th, 2010 12:09 PM

I got my ass kicked a few times i only had a lvl 100 pidgeot :D but somehow i got him ^_^

Emilio~ April 25th, 2010 1:55 PM

I defeated him just recently! All my pokemon (in sig) were about lvl. 80, I switched pokemon depending on type effectiviness, and defeated him easily =)
