red gyarados

Who of you acually used the red gyarados and raised it in your party and beat the elite for with it, didnt coz that way i would have to get rid of one of my raised party memebers XD

Kirkland April 5th, 2010 2:12 AM

I attempted to SR for good IV's but I got so bored I just caught it and kept it in my pc box since I'm no fan of Gyarados anyway. Atleast its adamant natured and not TOTALLY useless. But blergh, he's not that awesome. XD

Famastar April 5th, 2010 2:15 AM

I didn't use it, I just didn't want to replace on of my party members.xD

Master Kavar April 5th, 2010 2:19 AM

i would never try to SF to get a good nature on the gyarados coz it crap on its attack thats it even though lance uses it and its not even dragon type

Kirkland April 5th, 2010 2:24 AM

Gyarados can be REALLY good actually, depends on if you play him right and use the right moves. True about Lance though. But I guess its the same as when some of the sinnoh gym leaders have "trump" cards like the ice leaders fighting type.

curiousnathan April 5th, 2010 2:24 AM

Nah I didn't use it, I just left it in my PC. But now it is on my Pokewalker and having fun taking walks with my sister. Haha.

ILoveDragonite April 5th, 2010 2:27 AM

I just killed it. Catching it when i'm not going to use it...? why?

LegendaryPokeBreeder April 5th, 2010 2:51 AM

Well some people like to have to it. Not many people before HG/SS could say they have a red Gyarados and now most people do.
Besides there might be some kind of event out on wifi where you have to have the Gyarados on your team or somthing ;)

TechnoSparkX April 5th, 2010 3:04 AM

im trying to get a adament nature on it if not instead of it ill uses poliwath slowking slowbro or kingdra

~Gary~ April 5th, 2010 3:12 AM

Nah I didn't use it, I just left it in my PC. But now i have traded it to a noob for his starter.Haha.

Kikaito plush April 5th, 2010 3:18 AM

well I SR'd for a female one who now is sitting in box 3

Master Kavar April 5th, 2010 3:20 AM

having a gyarados has it advantages but not me mabyes ill train one just for the fun of it

Uecil April 5th, 2010 3:20 AM

I might actually catch that red gyarados seeing as one I can not find a marril and two because it's quite rare and it's shiny! yay all hail the shiny gyarados XD

Edit: yay! I just caught that gyarados but battled it with my Flaaffy XP

.тαмєя April 5th, 2010 3:23 AM

I really dislike Gyarados so I just Killed it for some EXP ;)
Anyway everyone would have one anyay so there was no point catching it, only to gather dust in moi Box :3

Tox April 5th, 2010 3:27 AM

I caught it - Adamant nature with 31 IVs in HP, Attack and Speed. He's also got 23 in Defence, 28 in Special Defence and 29 in Special Attack. It only took me three soft resets so I was delighted! He remains untouched in my PC where he will stay for now. I'll probably EV train him and trade him off eventually. I'm not really into shinies unless it's a completely random encounter.

@World April 5th, 2010 3:29 AM

I used it in my Japanese Soul Silver, but in my English Heart Gold it's rotting in my PC box, I like my party members too much to replace them.

Piplup-Trainer April 5th, 2010 3:52 AM

Anyone was that lucky like me and caught a jolly gyarados on the first try? :P

Well, actually on the second try, I killed the first gyarados uninentionally :(

*Meowth V.2* April 5th, 2010 4:31 AM

I caught it but I won't use it. I was thinking of raising it a bit and using it for my battle against Clair but then realized I had a Lapras and decided to use Lapras instead.

Maco April 5th, 2010 4:34 AM

As a change, I caught it and raised it. SR'd for a adamant nature and decent IVs. Now it's lvl 74 and completely rolls the elite four.

Ninja Caterpie April 5th, 2010 4:55 AM

The thing was, I needed a physical water type for Waterfall.

I had Qwilfish, and it was pretty beastly.

Then I saw the huge stat difference between my Speed-deficient Qwilfish and my neutral Gyarados.

Waaaay too big.

Xadet April 5th, 2010 6:45 AM

I Killed the Red Gyarados.
Because I Already have a Gyarados in my Party.
For this Gyarados I Just traded it from my Diamond Version, Along with Many of my Pokemon.

So my Gyarados is still Strong, Kills anything in its path like the rest of my level 100's.
Just, When i Actually look at its stats, It's low. >_>
So I Just kill people with moves like, Whirlpool, Surf, Waterfall, and Icebeam. ^_^
So it's just my Water HM Slave. :D

⋚Raika⋚ April 5th, 2010 6:49 AM

What? So I'm like, one of the few who actually trained my red Gyarados to Lv 66 and used it throughout the game? Gyarados is deadly if used correctly, and it's true. It was the last one standing in my party against Red, and the one who KO'd Red's final Pokemon, Snorlax.

Skylark7 April 5th, 2010 6:52 AM

I didn't use it cuz everyone will have a red gyrados so its not rare at all

Heart Gold April 5th, 2010 6:54 AM

I prefer Kingdra to Gyarados any day.

.hack April 5th, 2010 6:57 AM

Caught it and boxed it. Raised it in the original though.....

enzo51 April 5th, 2010 6:58 AM

Nah, I just caught and kept it in the PC and just kept my normal Gyarados (which I raised since it was a Magikarp), since I'm much more used to it. I mean it's just the color that's different right?

Left4Dead April 5th, 2010 7:01 AM

I caught it but only for someone to use Surf and Whirlpool lol I had Surf on Poliwrath but now I can finally delete it and give it waterfall instead :D

Chunes April 5th, 2010 7:04 AM

I used it in my party, but it lagged behind the others in level badly. It was only 42 or so when the others were 60.

EJ April 5th, 2010 7:05 AM

I caught mine so I could trade it for something a little bit more rare, like a bulbasaur or something =]

Subject April 5th, 2010 7:32 AM

Well I didn't have a full team then... gyms i did in order 1,2,3,4,7,5,6,8 and red gyarados helped me beat the 8th gym it just used ice fang and it was so easy

Nikorasu April 5th, 2010 7:40 AM

I didn't plan to use it, but ended up using it.

I'm getting rid of it soon. Same with my butterfree.

SuperStaraptor121 April 5th, 2010 7:45 AM

Yes I did use it. It helped me beat Clair easily. With my Red Gyarados and his Ice fang we owned Clair. And helped me beat Red.

Zaia Katora April 5th, 2010 7:53 AM

I caught it and am currently using it. Sadly, Lance wiped the floor with it before it had a chance to attack.....and I haven't battled Red yet, but it should come in handy. Gyarados has always been one of my favorite Pokemon. The fact that you can catch a shiny one without having to spend hours looking for it is a bonus in my mind.

Tinhead Bruce April 5th, 2010 7:58 AM

I'm not quite sure why none of you use/used it. I haven't caught it yet, but I plan to catch it and use it. Who cares if everyone else has it? Everyone else has a Salamence in competitive play, but that doesn't mean it's not a really cool Pokémon with some nice stats. In fact, it means that it is those things. I think that if you think a Pokémon is cool, use it, at least in-game. It doesn't matter if everyone has one, as you aren't trying to impress others by playing the game, right? You're playing the game to have fun, and if you'll have fun using the Red Gyarados, then go ahead and use it!

Anyways, yeah, I think it will be pretty cool to use it when I catch it as I remember using it in the original G/S and having a lot of fun.

Sup3rSuzaku April 5th, 2010 8:03 AM

left it in my pc took it to wifi battens to show off to noobs who killed the red gyarados off

chillxd April 5th, 2010 8:05 AM

I did. I reset for an Adamant nature and decent IV's. Look at my sig, it's one of my Physical Sweepers now. :3

Dr Glocktor April 5th, 2010 8:21 AM

Caught, raised it to lv 44 and dominated Lance easily. Unlike most people, I actually like Gyarados and I realize how powerful it is.

LilacArcanine April 5th, 2010 8:35 AM

It's pretty hard to raise, but its Ice Fang can easily take out Lance's Dragonites, even at Level 41 or whatever it was when I beat the Elite Four.

StarryLatiasGirl April 5th, 2010 8:46 AM

I trained it, simply because I've never trained a Gyarados and wanted a Water-type for my team. It's actually a pretty good powerhouse, believe it or not. I probably got lucky with nature/IV's, though. xD

~Starry

LilacArcanine April 5th, 2010 8:49 AM

Mine knows Surf and Waterfall. Before I caught her, I used a pitiful Krabby to surf around. I'm keeping her one Ice move (Ice Fang) for if it's needed in the future, particularly if I come across Dragon types.

Most of her exp comes from when I was training to beat Clair, as she was the only one in my party who really stood a chance :)

Ian Watkins April 5th, 2010 8:54 AM

I'm actually using it. She's Adamant natured, and is great. I needed a water type, so she's pretty great. :3

Obelisk April 5th, 2010 9:06 AM

Gyarados is an awesome pokemon, I caught it and used it in my HG I dont know if Ill do the same on SS but Its my first shiny lol so I loved it.

Kon~ April 5th, 2010 9:14 AM

I'ma use mine for breeding later. (♀ FTW!)

The Fame Monster April 5th, 2010 9:24 AM

I will use mine as an HM slave. hehehe

GlitchCity April 5th, 2010 3:00 PM

I caught it and put it in the box. I just used a regular Gyarados because I dislike shines on my team.

BabyPanda April 5th, 2010 3:17 PM

i didn't used it because i already have water type pokemon in my team.

Toxicroak April 5th, 2010 3:22 PM

i just left it to rot in my shiny box :P

Ninja Caterpie April 5th, 2010 3:24 PM

Well, it helped me wipe out half of the Elite Four's Pokemon, so =|.

Teh Blazer April 5th, 2010 3:26 PM

It's cool that Shiny Gyarados has the shiny "sparkle" in the beginning of the battle, but it gets annoying running into Zubats and having to wait for Gyarados to stop sparkling. Just like Edward, stop sparkling!

GSCyndaquil19 April 5th, 2010 3:30 PM

yea i used it,i switched it with my pidgeot cuz my Traded Charizard knew fly,and gyarados pretty much was the most effective on my team

ChrisTom April 5th, 2010 4:58 PM

I'm sorry "thebest" but I think if you want people to take you more seriously you should try to make your grammar better. For example this:
Quote:

Who of you acually used the red gyarados and raised it in your party and beat the elite for with it, didnt coz that way i would have to get rid of one of my raised party memebers XD
Should be changed to this:
Quote:

Who here actually used the Red Gyarados and raised it to defeat the Elite 4?
I didn't because if I did I would have to get rid of a Pokemon I already raised!
I'm sorry if I sound like a grammar snob, but you should work on that just a bit.

To answer your question: No. I feel the same way. I spent a tremendous amount of time raising my Totodile(Who I am everstoning. He just looks cute as a Totodile, but not as a Feraligatr). I did keep the Red Gyarados though as a memorabilia of Lake of Rage. I think of it as a novelty. Although it does great damage on some Pokemon, it also has a quadruple weakness to Electric Types.

Guy April 5th, 2010 5:08 PM

I'll catch the Red Gyarados, but I won't use it on my team. I may just SR for a right nature (preferably Jolly) so I can always EV it and use it competitively. Other than that, I have my Poliwhirl to use as a water based Pokémon, so I'm good.

@ ChrisTom, it would have been better if you told thebest about his grammar through a VM or PM message. Please, leave all discussion here about the Red Gyarados and not the grammar of others.

@ thebest, I have been watching your posts lately, and if you can please take your time and proof read you posts before submitting them to make sure it is easy to understand, then that would be great. ;)

lusterclaw April 5th, 2010 7:33 PM

I caught mine and i dont use it anymore

institutions April 5th, 2010 7:38 PM

My Red Gyarados is always an HM slave. Strength, Surf, Waterfall, Whirlpool.
He did beat the E4 with me, though, at level 32.

whoa, seriously? Totodile has like half the stats. =|

loliwin April 5th, 2010 7:42 PM

Didn't get it. Gyarados get's pwned so bad if he faces a freaking thunderbolt.

Haxxar` April 5th, 2010 7:50 PM

I'm using it for in game battles. Got it w/ a bad nature so.. But Dragon Dance is a beast on it regardless.

GoombaMuffins April 5th, 2010 7:52 PM

I caught it and raised it and now Rage is one of my strongest Pokemon and I love him ^^

Trap-Eds April 5th, 2010 8:07 PM

Lol. I caught the Gyarados, and thought you had to give it to Mr. Pokemon. Luckily no, you just give him the scale, which is a relief I guess; dunno if I'll still use it though.

shookie April 5th, 2010 8:18 PM

I caught it, but I haven't even thought about what I'm going to do with it yet. So far it's my Waterfall slave, and since it's Gentle it won't do much as far as serious battling is concerned.

MrGhost April 5th, 2010 11:01 PM

I caught it, but I don't use it because everyone I know does use it and I already had a perfectly good water type.

hoboX10 April 5th, 2010 11:41 PM

I use it because I only have 4 or 5 main party members by the time I got to it anyway.

Fire-Red April 6th, 2010 3:52 AM

I will catch it but will not use it in my team. I always used to have a gyarados in my team when I played red/blue/yellow as kid though

Ninja Caterpie April 6th, 2010 4:54 AM

I just want to point out that most water types do anyway, and if you're going to get a Waterfaller, might as well be stronger. =|

That and the whole point of Gyarados is to not let them get the Thunderbolt off.

Pikachu-dance! April 6th, 2010 5:10 AM

I accidentally killed it but i have a shiny gyarrados from my platinum so im just gonna trade that over.

zommy08 April 9th, 2010 11:35 PM

Got it, left it. Looked at the shiny sparkle for 2 seconds, left it again.

lol but your sig and your Avatar are both gyarados.

I used him on the E4...He Sweeped Lance for me with Avalaunch

Raichu1988 April 12th, 2010 7:56 PM

In the original Silver and Gold games I had, I never used the shiny Gyrados. At first, I thought he looked real cool, but even on the old games I prefered other water types I had.

I haven't gotten far enough to catch him yet in HG, but I'm sure I won't be using him unless it's to take out Lance with his Ice moves. Depends though. *shrug* He'll probably just sit in the PC forever until someone who actually didn't get him wants him and offers something I like better. :p

But, I only had 3 Pokemon on my team by the time I got to it. I needed a water type, and a red Gyarados sounded perfect. He's still on my team, and still wins for me.

Itz Spadezz April 13th, 2010 3:01 AM

I caught it and raised it. Taught it some good moves and it became a great asset against the Elite 4.

TrilbyMenetti April 13th, 2010 3:31 AM

I caught it (for the novelty, as suggested and the fact that I'm unlikely to catch another shiny), but I didn't use it, since I started off with Totodile and I don't particularly like having more than one Pokémon of the same type on my team. I never used it back in Gold either, but I still caught it.

But, if I start a new game on my currently unused SoulSilver game, then I'll consider using it.

How is the game any fun when you just walk around with a team full of level 100's beating the crap out of everyone? ._.

And no, I only used Red Gyarados for Waterfall and Whirlpool. :(

I was going to use it so I felt good about having a shiny, but then while I was treking through Victory Road, I encountered a green Golbat. I was simply stunned, lmao.

Moltres111 April 13th, 2010 4:12 AM

yes, I will use it in my playthrough of SoulSilver.

The reason? I need a good water type. And i've always wanted to use it anyway. :)

Yeah but why the hell would you capture it and then release it? You're wasting Pokeballs and missing out on a nice chunk of Experience.

The Doctor April 13th, 2010 5:43 AM

I caught it and used it for elite four.

Matzzz April 13th, 2010 5:43 AM

if im honest i prefer the normal gyarados but i caught it anyway for the hell of it
unfortunatly now though a shiny gyarados is now worthless

Jonnsie April 13th, 2010 5:46 AM

To be honest:P I'm using it as a HM Slave:P
Mine knows, Waterfall, Surf, Whirpool and Strength xD

Saltare. April 13th, 2010 8:44 AM

Yeah, it's in my party.

I didn't have many good pokemon in my party, so Gyarados was a shoe-in to replace my Weepinbell...

Chunes April 13th, 2010 10:14 AM

I don't like the idea of having a shiny Gyarados in the game. It cheapens the shiny version of it to practically nothing.

I didn't end up using it because it had too much redundancy with Feraligatr (moveset and type) and Luxray (physical sweeper)

Rick. April 13th, 2010 10:15 AM

actually...

i actually used Reddie (nicked!) as an HM slave ...

AuroraHearts April 13th, 2010 10:21 AM

well i caught it and used it until i beat the whole game with it
i think i mainly kept it because

1)i had a spare place in my party at the time
2)i found it funny how the massive thing could follow you without water and how it could fit through doors and houses XD

Knitewulf April 13th, 2010 11:28 AM

Gyarados is a great sweeper in competitive battling. If anyone is stupid enough to let him get a Dragon Dance in let alone 2+ then its pretty much game over right there. He covers a wide type variety with Waterfall, Stone Edge, and Earthquake and he can do much needed damage. He isn't worthless at all. Whoever is saying that clearly needs to learn their pokemon :p.

Pokeon-Girl April 13th, 2010 11:42 AM

Red gyaradose is on my main team, I needed a water pokemon and who better than a shiney powerful one? The people who don't have gyaradose in their teams are fools! FOOLS I TELL YOU! haha jokes.

ayevdayev April 13th, 2010 11:44 AM

I raised it and put it in my team but I think I'm gonna switch it with suicune.

vamkatt April 13th, 2010 12:15 PM

I used it for the elite four.. but it wasnt one of the main pokemon i used, i gave it up after defeating Lance.

Emilio~ April 13th, 2010 1:31 PM

I caught it, but sadly, I didn't use it =( It had such a bad nature, I think it was something like raising def/sp.def and lowering attack o.o Sometimes I wish there were no natures in the in-game part.... I didn't have any luck with one of my favorites, Suicune, either. It had impish nature x.x

Heart Gold April 13th, 2010 4:51 PM

I'm using Kingdra instead.

Eeohnex April 13th, 2010 6:02 PM

This is in-game we're talking about, pal. Yes, it's a powerhouse in competitive battles, but anyone that is even stupid enough to let it Dragon Dance more than once, like you said, is idiotic and doesn't deserve to be a competitive battler. It's like TTar.

In-game doesn't equivalate to competitive.

I loved the Red Gyrodos but not as much to keep it in my party.

Master Kavar April 14th, 2010 9:19 PM

that red gyarados would ov been exellent for my team but meh decided to toss it away like and old piece of food i also like gyarados's dragon breath and rage attacks

MudkipManiac April 14th, 2010 9:25 PM

i caught mine, its lvl 41 now 3rd stronges behind tyhplosion n lugia. usin its ice moves 4 elite 4

bruteroot April 15th, 2010 2:43 AM

I love my red gyarados! It's one of the best water types ever and he saved when it came to battling Clair. Good times XD

Master Kavar April 15th, 2010 3:04 AM

Yer, the red gyarados does have some great fetures and attacks who would not love it
