Most powerful Grass-type?

In your opinion, what is the most powerful Grass-type Pokemon? I'm looking for one to accompany my Quilava on our way to the HG League. I prefer damage-causing attacks against stat-modifying/status-inducing attacks.

HallwayKid April 5th, 2010 3:07 PM

Treecko's line is probably the best to fill that position. But if you want a Pokemon you can catch in the wild in Johto, use Bellsprout's line. That's just my opinion, there could be better ones.

GlitchCity April 5th, 2010 3:18 PM

Meganium has an overwhelming defense and sp. defense (it stood up to a flare blitz!) But I think Sceptile won this round. It has a pretty damn good movepool, and its sp. attack base is awesome, and its attack base inst bad either.

Cacturne, Breloom, and Torterra are pretty beast grass-types.

Christopher April 5th, 2010 3:20 PM

in johto best option Bellspout oddish or hoppip lines I would say but in all I like Roselia and Roserade

NEOCHU April 5th, 2010 3:29 PM

i like the hoppip and oddish lines, but my fav grass type is Meganium.

Christopher April 5th, 2010 3:37 PM

Since he already has quilava he can't get another starter unless he cheats or trades also why does everyone think they need a starter of every type ?

zerwey April 5th, 2010 3:47 PM

Well I want to go through the game with my Typhlosion and another Pokemon that can cover all its weaknesses. I found that the Grass type is super effective against all the Fire weaknesses so I'm looking for a strong one to run the game with.

We are not saying he needs a starter for every type. There are not a lot of grass Pokemon that fit his description anyway. Sceptile is used a lot in competitive battling and I believe it is the best offensive Grass Pokemon around.

zerwey April 5th, 2010 3:51 PM

Which of the following lines would be the strongest?
Bellsprout
Oddish
Hoppip

Ninja Caterpie April 5th, 2010 3:55 PM

Unfortunately for you, there aren't many good Grass type Pokemon in Johto. You're going to have to use Hoppip line, I think. =|

HallwayKid April 5th, 2010 3:56 PM

For Attack go Victreebel
For Status/Defense go Jumpluff
For Mixture go Vileplume/Bellossom

PSI-Claus April 5th, 2010 3:57 PM

If you want Physical power, then Breloom, Victreebel, or Leafeon are possible choices.
If you want Special attack, then Exeggutor, Roserade, Sceptile, or Sunflora would be good choices.
Sceptile could also be good for Physical attack and Tangrowth is good for both.

Timbjerr April 5th, 2010 3:59 PM

Tangrowth is the most powerful nonlegendary grass-type in the game and you can easily acquire a Tangela in the first half of HG. If you want something a little earlier, you can try The Bellsprout or Hoppip lines. They take a little while to get going, but end up decently powerful enough.

zerwey April 5th, 2010 4:03 PM

Note that I'm not looking for actual power, but for powerful Grass attacks so i can fend off Water, Ground, and Rock Pokemon. Therefore I should rephrase: which Pokemon has the most powerful Grass attacks?

Meta-Morph April 5th, 2010 4:06 PM

Victreebel. That thing is beast, and powerful. Plus no trading. Leaf Blade + Sunny Day + Solarbeam + Sludge Bomb + Ability Chlorophyll = Awesomeness.

zerwey April 5th, 2010 4:11 PM

Alright. I guess I'll settle for the Bellsprout line to Victreebel. That's probably the best I can get with HG >.<

Christopher April 5th, 2010 4:15 PM

you'll need a leaf stone for weepinbell though I would just go with Hoppip

Spikey-Eared Pichu April 5th, 2010 5:35 PM

IMO, Tangrowth is a lot better. You can get one at the Safari Zone, or trade.

michele April 5th, 2010 9:18 PM

meganium is my favourite grass-type pokemon, although it's probably not the strongest. maybe victreebel idk. :\

Calder April 5th, 2010 9:56 PM

Breloom with a Poison Orb and Facade...you win...

Toxicroak April 5th, 2010 10:05 PM

Celebi or Venasaur imo...

Mujahid April 5th, 2010 10:20 PM

SCEPTILE OWNS EVERYONE IN THIS DEPARTMENT.however in yr situation..use the oddish line until u get to route 44..catch a tangela it will be on a good 23 level but u need to train it to lvl 33 ..teach it ancient power and level it up.There u go ...u now have a grass beast on yr team

Pokedude34 April 5th, 2010 10:36 PM

Venusuar + Sleep Powder + Power Whip = Winz

Ho-Oh April 6th, 2010 12:52 AM

Sunkern obv is.

Though um, Bellossom is most powerful imo.

Serene Grace April 6th, 2010 2:03 AM

This belongs more in Pokemon Heart Gold & Soul Silver, so I'll move it there. Although, I'm not sure of the validity after it's been moved.

Anyway, It's really up to you. Choose your favourite, catch and raise it. Remember, as long as it's not for competitive battling - there's no real "bad" Pokemon that you can use, so feel free to use any. Oh, and here's a list of grass types in HG/SS.
