This or Platinum?

I am interested in getting one of them.

Which one of Platinum or HG/SS lets you capture the most Pokemon without the use of trade?

Which gens are for capturing? Are alot of 1/2/3 gen available for capture in Platinum? And vice versa - are alot of 3/4 gen available for capture in HG/SS?

I'm quite unsure since both games have their own special stuff like Platinum's Underground letting you have access to all fossil pokemon/inserting old gen cartridges for different spawns and HG/SS having the Pokewalker/getting other starters after beating Red...

Which game has the best in-game applications?

So overall, which game to pick? :surprised:

If you want to know about in-game applications, I like the PokeGear better than the Poketch and the Pokeatlon better than the Hearthome Super Contests. However, that's just my opinon. (And the Underground isn't that fun unless you have friends to play with.)

I would choose HeartGold because I think it has better playing value and is really good -- however I have both of them so I can't really say which one is better, having played Pt. about three times and currently working on HeartGold.

HG/SS has longer gameplay and if you want nostalgia its definately the game you should choose, it brings back so many memories and seeing some old johto pokemon is amazing :D
Platinum isn't much different than diamond/pearl if you have those.

I recommend HeartGold. There's the many PokeWalker courses which give you access to a lot of Pokemon. There's more places to explore than Platinum, and the gameplay is longer. Also, HeartGold has more version exclusives than Soul Silver.

If your new to pokemon, I'd choose platinum.
But, HG/SS is newer and has more gameplay and pokemon to catch, and in my opinion is a bit better. It's also got a lot of new features.
So maybe get platinum then HG or SS?

Eurgh this! I lost the will to play on halfway through platinum and left it for about a month.
Atleast I'm not TOO bored of this yet. But I didn't really like Sinnoh at all, so Plat will obviously
get my thumbs down. In terms of applications, I would say Platinum because of contests being
more complex than pokeathlon and the poketch has more features than the pokegear, however,
I wouldn't say that it was more useful. Just silly things that amuse you for about 5 seconds. XD

I think if you take a look at Serebii's site to compare the differences in Platinum and HG/SS, then you can check out the entire game's information at these two links. Other than that, it'll be your choice in which game you choose. I've played Platinum and I'm currently playing SoulSilver. Both games are great in my opinion and they both offer a lot, you'll just have to look at the details that interest you the most and choose which you think is best.

Given information: HeartGold & SoulSilver vs. Platinum

Other than that, there's no real need for a thread like this, because like said the choice is relatively up to you in the end.
