Monotype Challenge

Hey guys, Fire Wolf has abandoned the challenge, so he said I could run it.

Rules:
1) The challenge is over once you beat the elite four one time.
2) You may only use Pokemon of one type (or Pokemon that are the type once evolved), however dual type Pokemon are okay to use for either type (ex. Fire/Fighting Pokemon work if you are doing a Fire challenge or a Fighting challenge).
3) You may have HM Slaves in your party, but you cannot use them in battle unless they fall within your type.
4) You may use the starter if it satisfies rule 2, or until you get your first Pokemon of your type. Once you get your first Pokemon, you must stop using your starter, unless he falls within your type.
5) Your first Pokemon must be obtained before you get out of the Eterna Forest. If you cannot get a Pokemon before the Eterna Forest, you may trade one Pokemon from another game, but only if it is an egg or hatched, but level 5 or below.
6) You may only trade if you are satisfying rule 5 or if you are trying to evolve a Pokemon that evolves by trading (ex. Graveler and Syther).
7) You may not use Legendaries, even if they fall within your type. Note: Rotom doesn't count as a Legendary in my eyes.
8) More than one person can use the same type.
9) You may use an emulator, just play it like a regular game and don't cheat with it.
10) It's not a race. Have fun and play nice.
11) If you don't update progress within a month, I will move you from the "challengers" group to the "abandoned" group. So update often.

With that being said, I introduce you to the challengers. If you have a problem with where you are on the list, PM me and I will fix it as soon as I can.
Pikapal642 has been nice enough to make us userbars!!! Thanks, pikapal!

eveelution April 28th, 2010 1:37 AM

Ooh, can I do the ice challenge on my R4. Specifically Diamond.

Bart Crab April 28th, 2010 1:48 AM

well, i guess i'm doing steel. looks like i'll have use an emulator since i couldn't be bothered restarting Diamon or Platinum.

myrrhman April 28th, 2010 10:02 AM

all right, everyone's signed up!

Also, I ran through Candice easily. Gyarados one hit everything that wasn't her Sneasel, which Floatzel one hit with Focus Blast. Then, amazingly, I beat Volkner. So I went through victory road, and started suicide training. Right now, I am at Lucian, and there is no way for me to beat him. So sounds like time to start over with Aaron to me!

Team (don't know levels right now because I'm not playing right now)

Empoleon: Surf, Shadow Claw, Drill Peck, Steel Wing
Whiscash: Aqua Tail, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Rest
Floatzel: Waterfall, Crunch, Ice Fang, Focus Blast
Gyarados: Surf, Ice Fang, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower
Bibarel (HM Slave): Cut, Rock Smash, Rock Climb, Strength
Wingull (HM Slave): Fly, Defog, ???, ???

Sora247_2009 April 28th, 2010 11:03 AM

Can I sign up to this, even though I might not play heavily thanks to UMC taking up alot of time. If so, I'll take a ghost challenge on Pearl. Question, are there any Platinum exclusive ghost types?

myrrhman April 28th, 2010 11:55 AM

K, I'll add you in regardless. To answer your question, you can get a Snorunt which evolves to Froslass pre-elite four only in Platinum, but you can't get misdreavous. So its sorta a trade off.

Bart Crab April 28th, 2010 1:58 PM

Well, started the game, named myself Bart and my rival Barry. I picked Piplup as a starter and it barely defeated Barry's Turtwig (thanks to withdraw, i live with 5 hp). Went to Sandgem Town nicknamed Piplup 'SlashGuin', received the Pokedex, received TM 27 Return. Taught it to SlashGuin. Returned to Twinleaf Town, received the parcel. Received 5 Pokeballs from Dawn. Dominated through 202. Received the VS Recorder from Looker. Delivered the parcel. Received the Town Map. Received the Poketch. Received the Quick Claw and gave it to SlashGuin. Defeated Barry on Route 203 and saved the game.

Kazbat028 April 28th, 2010 2:17 PM

I'll take the Psychic challenge. I can get Abra first. Am I allowed to evolve it quick?

myrrhman April 28th, 2010 4:09 PM

Yeah, of course. You can evolve it because Kadabra and Alakazam are both Psychic types as well.

eveelution April 28th, 2010 8:31 PM

I just realized I'll be forced to trade an egg because there are no ice types before Eterna City.

myrrhman April 28th, 2010 10:37 PM

that's fine, just do one. If I were you, I'd get some good egg moves in :P

and now this, taken from the Ultimate Monotype Challenge, posted by yours truly

Quote:

All right guys, this is it. I beat the elite four after about 15 suicide missions. My team is still a little underleveled to be fighting the champion, but here we go.

I healed and revived everyone except Empoleon, who is barely under 1/3 health to activate his ability (which, strangely enough, is the first time I have used his ability.) Spiritomb was faster than me, but it used Embargo, and my surf took it down to about 2/3 health. I switched to Floatzel. It hit me with Psychic. I killed it with Waterfall.

She was sending out Roserade, so I switched to Gyarados. Extrasensory, Flamethrower, Energy Ball, Flamethrower put it at 1/3 health and me almost dead. I healed and she switched to Gastrodon. I switched to Whiscash, and she missed with muddy water. I hit with Earthquake to do 1/4 damage, and she hit with Sludge Bomb to do a very little bit. We traded Earthquakes and had about the same health left (a bit under half). I used Aqua Tail to try to do a little less damage, unfortunately it put Gastrodon in the red and she hit with muddy water to put me at 7/192. She healed and I used Earthquake. I healed and she used Muddy water, which dropped accuracy. I missed with EQ, she hit with Sludge Bomb, I hit with EQ, she hit with Stone Edge, I missed another EQ, and she killed me with her own. I didn't think she was low enough for Empoleon to one hit with Surf, so I sent out Floatzel, who froze with Ice Fang. Gastrodon thawed out that turn (I hate how the game cheats like that) and almost killed me with muddy water. I sacrificed Floatzel with a Waterfall (gastrodon has the tiniest sliver) and she killed me with Stone Edge. Empoleon finished it off with Shadow Claw.

Garchomp time. I tried Gyarados to drop its attack, and Giga impact did not kill me. I used Ice fang twice, almost killed it, and he healed with his berry. But, I froze him with the second Ice Fang. Amazingly enough, he didn't defrost, and I had enough time to revive Floatzel and Whiscash, as well as to heal Floatzel, Whiscash, and Gyarados. With everyone save Empoleon at full health, I finished it with an Ice Fang. 3/6 down.

I was typing this instead of paying attention to who she was sending out, so I kept Gyarados out, expecting her to send out Roserade. She sent out Lucario instead. It did slightly under half damage to me with Dragon Pulse, and I did the same with Flamethrower. Psychic put me in the red, and flamethrower put it in the low yellow. I healed off right before Aura Sphere, which did a third of my health, and after Dragon Pulse took me to under 1/3, I killed it with Flamethrower. 2 left

Milotic. I was waiting for this. I sent out Floatzel to combat it. I was thinking that hopefully, I will be able to drop its defense if I use Crunch enough. But I forgot that I only had 2 left. Damn. I got a critical hit with my first one though, which did 1/3 damage to it, and it did the same to me with surf. I used it again to put it at half, and it failed with a Mirror Coat. I used a Max Ether on Crunch (for some reason I didn't have any normal ones) and it got a critical hit and froze me with Ice Beam. With 23/171 health left, I felt it was appropriate to use a Full Restore, but I didn't have any, so I settled for a hyper potion for now. It used Ice Beam again. I healed with an Aspear Berry and took another Ice beam. Finally I got to use Crunch, which finally dropped its defense. Surf put me at 24 health. I hyper potioned up again and it failed again with mirror coat. And then crunch got Sooooooooo close to killing it. It used Aqua Ring to heal a bit. And then a Full Restore. Ugh. Crunch dropped defense again. The next crunch did almost half health, but I took a crit surf. Aqua Ring put him at just under half. Hmmm. I went for it without healing and paid the price. I put him in red without killing him, and he killed me with surf, and Aqua Ring took him out of red. I sent out Gyarados hoping to outspeed it or for it to do something stupid, but it didn't and Gyarados died to Ice Beam. Then I did what I should have done instead and sent out Bibarel. Used his life to Revive Floatzel. For some reason, Milotic used Mirror Coat on Bibarel. Damnit, its just getting health back from stupid Aqua Ring. I tried to see if I could get off a Rock Smash to drop its Defense, but it killed me. Hmm Hmm, back to buisness. Floatzel was snt out and once again failed to kill milotic by a sliver. But this time, surf didn't kill me, and I was able to kill it with the next crunch. Phew. Just a partially damaged Roserade left.

She sent out Roserade, I used Ice Fang, and killed it. GG Cynthia. Thank god I'm done with this Challenge.

Final, Champion Team:

Caesar, the level 57 Empoleon @ Mystic Water

Surf, Shadow Claw, Steel Wing, Drill Peck
Constantly kept at under 1/3 health throughout the final elite four run, so his surf move, powered by Torrent combined with the mystic water, was strong enough to one hit Lucian's Bronzong.

Riptide, the level 54 Whiscash @ Rock Incense

Aqua Tail, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Rest <--never got a heart scale to replace with Zen Headbutt, which is really the only reason I got Whiscash
Although he never learned one of his moves, he was vital both in beating the hardest Gym leader (Volkner) and the elite four (especially Aaron's Beautifly and Vespiquen).

Hydra, the level 50 Gyarados @ Wise Glasses

Ice Fang, Flamethrower, Surf, Thunderbolt
Even though he wasn't the best Special Sweeper, with his Attack Stat being double that of his Special Attack, he did his job, and he did it well. In fact, he one hit almost the entire Snowpoint Gym by himself. The Wise Glasses really helped.

Motor, the level 53 Floatzel @ Fist Plate

Focus Blast, Waterfall, Ice Fang, Crunch
Definitely the MVP of my final team. Fast enough to outspeed everyone save Lucian's Alakazam, he was also strong. Won the game for me with his top notch performance against Milotic.

And honorable mention to my two HM Slaves

HM Slave 1, the Bibarel

Rock Climb, Cut, Rock Smash, Strength

HM Slave 2, the Wingull

Fly, Defog

finally, I am on the Champion board.

Bart Crab April 28th, 2010 10:41 PM

Dominated Route 203, went through Orebough Gate and Mine and SlashGuin evolved!! Orebough Gym was a piece of cake.

Gym Battle: Leader Roark
Pokemon: Lv12 Geodude
Lv12 Onix
Lv14 Cranidos

Bubble went for the K.O. for Geodude and Onix and Bubble+2 Metal Claw K.O.ed Cranidos

Then I saved the game.

Sora247_2009 April 29th, 2010 6:46 AM

Can i change to Platinum? I discovered I could only get Dusknoir and Froslass in Platinum, and they both seem like a bigger asset to the team than Mismagius. I'm planning on starting later on with Chimchar till I get Gastly, or I may trade over a Misdreavus egg. That way, I could have an almost full team.

Yeah, that's fine. I'm not really trying to keep track of what game everyone is using. If it makes your life easier, then go for it.

No, Opera, Pokemon don't have blood. That's why in the anime, they only get little scratches on them. It will just be normal murder. Also, good luck with Bertha.

Buzimu April 29th, 2010 5:30 PM

Can i take this challenge?
Grass on Platinum

Bart Crab April 29th, 2010 10:49 PM

I had started doing a Buizel Only Run before I found this thread. Can I update on it or is there another thread for solo runs?

myrrhman April 30th, 2010 10:48 AM

Well, I guess you could technically call it a water run... But, it would be easier if I just started that thread...

eveelution April 30th, 2010 9:52 PM

My Ice Type Challenge has officially begun.

I started my journey in a realm of darkness, where a voice asked if I was a boy, and what my name was. Normally I wouldn’t answer, but hey, it was a dream. What could I do? I quickly confirmed that I was male, and asked to be called Cal.

After that I awoke in my room and went downstairs, only for my mother to tell me that my friend Tyson had been looking for me. I walked towards his house, so focused on analyzing the recent T.V. show I had watched about a red gyarados in a lake that Tyson and I ran into each other when I reached his door.

He breathlessly told me that we were going to the lake right outside our hometown of Twinleaf Town. Apparently he wanted to find a pokemon in the lake. However, before I could utter a single word, he ran back into his house to get more supplies. I decided that I should follow him inside.

When I reached his room he was gathering supplies before he darted off, reminding me to meet him outside of town. I did so, and we then walked toward the lake. When we reached the lake there was already two people there. They soon left, but forgot their briefcase. Tyson demanded that we inspect it, even though that entailed us going into the dangerous tall grass.

We approached the briefcase, and found that it held three poke balls. As soon as we registered this fact, Tyson and I were forced to use the pokemon the poke balls held to defend ourselves against two vicious starlys.

With the penguin pokemon piplup at my side we had quickly slain the villainous birds. One of the two who had left there briefcase soon returned, and whisked the briefcase away, though not before seeing that Tyson and I held two of the three poke balls.

Tyson and I left the lake, for we had had enough adventures for the day. However, it seemed that this adventure was not over. We soon met the man that seemed to be the leader of the two owners of the briefcase. He said nothing about Tyson and mine stolen pokemon.

Later, my mother confirmed him to be the great Professor of Pokemon; Rowan. Heh, his name’s a tree. Anyway, my adventure continued, as mother demanded I go see the noble Professor in the neighboring Town of Sandgem.

When I arrived I quickly pinpointed the great residence of the Professor. To my surprise, I once again ran into Tyson, who was leaving the noble Professor’s residence. He said something about challenges and adventures.

I watched him run off, when the assistant from the lake appeared again. She christened herself Dawn, and told me that the Professor was waiting. When I knelt before the Professor, he acknowledged my presence, and beseeched me with a great task. He wanted me to fill the pokedex, as I traveled the land and proved my honor and courage in gym battles. I accepted the challenge, and received the piplup from earlier.

It was an empty gesture however, for at the price of a bidoof, I was soon sent a snorunt. She had the beautiful name of Mich’elle, and though she was Timid* by nature, I knew that we would make a great team. Dawn quickly suggested that I search for my mother’s blessing before my departure, and I agreed. A short journey later, my mother gave me her blessing, and Tyson’s mother asked that I deliver Tyson a package of great importance.

By the time I reached the small Town of Sandgem, Mich’elle had the good fortune to learn double team. I rested up at the poke center before I departed on my long and perilous journey.

As I was leaving the Town of Sandgem, my bag laden with potions, Dawn stopped me to give me a lesson how to handle poke balls with precision and skill. I then accepted the fair lady’s parting gift of five poke balls. With that, I could be assured of my journey’s success.

I quickly slew the evils that haunted the road between Sandgem Town and the great City of Jubilife. Mich’elle was in top form, even when battling the dangerous highway men and women we faced. Upon arrival at Jubilife City, Dawn told me where Tyson abided at the moment, and I quickly went off to deliver the precious goods beseeched me by Tyson’s mother.

The information I had received was not faulty; Tyson was at the School of Pokemon, and I took the opportunity to relieve myself of Tyson’s package. He revealed it to be two maps of high caliber. One for each of us! I accepted my map in good spirits, watching Tyson run off to train.

Soon after I tested my skills at the School training grounds, receiving the TM for Hidden Power from my success. Upon leaving the premises of the great School of Pokemon I found Jubilife City and the surrounding provinces to be a place of splendor, receiving a Quick Claw, an Old Fishing Rod, and even a fabled Poketech.

Upon leaving towards the great mining City of Oreburgh, Tyson beseeched me to accept a challenge of honor. I was the victor hands down, as they say. I then followed along the rout to Oreburgh, where, to my shock and horror, Mich’elle refused to listen to my expert advice. It almost cost her life to a villainous machop, but luckily I had a few Potions that held the power to heal a fallen comrade.

I reached the City of Oreburgh in dire need of advice, and I found that pokemon became rebellious if one did not obtain trinkets of honor and courage called gym badges. My next task was set. Upon reaching the fabled gym, I found that first I must locate the leader before I could achieve my short term goal.

I quickly located him in the mine that the City was famous for. He showed me an impressive rock smash, and returned to his honored post. Now I was one step closer to gaining the badge, and earning Mich’elle’s respect.

I quickly ran to accept the challenge, depositing a geodude I had caught for future references into the ever useful PC. Upon arrival at the gym, I first had to prove my worth by defeating to trainers of high caliber. Then it was time for the great gym leader Roark!

I started off with my beautiful Mich’elle, and Roark countered with a geodude. I asked for a Powder Snow, but Mich’elle decided to use an Icy Wind instead. It was a One-Hit KO, and Mich’elle used a Double Team to confuse the newly sent out onix. I then asked for a Powder Snow, but Mich’elle ignored me, taking a serious Rock Throw. After that, she used Bide instead of Powder Snow, and fell to the Thrown Rock.

I rushed towards the Poke Center, and then I determinedly headed towards Roark. Again the foe’s geodude fell to a Powder Snow. The onix soon followed suit. Last but not least, was the troublesome cranidos, to whom my Mich’elle had no advantage. Mich’elle refused to listen to me, though at the same time, she scored some good hits. After only two Powder Snows, Cranidos had only one fifth of his health. His pursuits missed, and Mich’elle took advantage of this with a Powder Snow. Mich’elle and I had won the Coal Badge! Gym Leader Roark also gave me the TM for stealth rock, and I thanked him deeply. Now I was to travel to Eterna City.

Very nicely done, eveelution! I loved reading your story. I'm so sorry that poor Mich'elle won't obey your orders. Gardenia will allow up to 30.

eveelution April 30th, 2010 11:36 PM

Thanks, I was wondering how my story would be recieved!

Also, Mich'elle was the first female I hatched, and it happens to have one of the most liked natures for Froslass; Timid! Oh, yeah!

Ooh, Timid is one of my favorite two natures. I like timid for my special sweepers and jolly for my physical sweepers.

Update time :)

-Started for Mt. Coronet after beating Cyrus and a commander whose name I can't remember
-Grinding for both Gabite and Boulder, and Gabite evolved!
-Beat the 2 commanders, then went into the confusing Distortion World
-Beat Cyrus, then waited for night so I could use a Dusk Ball on Giratina
-Finally caught Giratina with a Dusk Ball after numerous soft resets
-Defeated Volkner with ease of course
-Now I have an HM slave dilemma. Bibarel is full of HMs so I can't teach it Waterfall. I don't have any Pokemon that can learn Cut, Fly, AND Defog so I decided to get another Bibarel and give it the same HMs with Waterfall in place of Cut. I don't think I'll need that before the E4.

Tis’ a beautiful morn’ as I strolled through the caves connecting Oreborgh and Jubilife. I believe I have discovered why Mich’elle is rebelling so; she prefers to enhance her evasion before attacking with uncontained ferocity.

My hypothesis was disproven by Mich’elle’s actions not a moment later. I sighed and continued on my merry way.

Upon reaching Jubilife, many things happened at once. Galactic villains attacked the great Professor, though I and Lady Dawn quickly defeated the grunts. They ran off, and a spectator gave me a fashion case. I then traveled towards the quaint Floaroma Town.

I stopped only to heal Mich’elle, and then went on to the next route. Barely upon leaving the town, a helpless little girl ran up to me, distraught because the villainous Galactics had taken her father hostage. I ran to the Windworks, and battled the guard. The coward locked himself in the building, but in a lapse of intelligence he told me were to find his cohorts who held a key.

I ran to the flower field to the north of Floaroma town and challenged the two cohorts. A quick battle later, I held a key to the windworks, and a jar of honey from the person the cohorts had been terrorizing.

I stormed Windworks, striking down Galactic Grunts left and right. Then I faced the commander behind it all. She called herself Commander Mars, and we engaged in a vicous battle.

She sent out a zubat, who Mich’elle viciously destroyed with an Icy Wind. The battle increased her level to 20 and she was ready for the purugly.

A double team which Mich’elle took as false protection. She was struck hard, but I restored her heath with a potion. Whence I ordered an attack, she used another Double team instead, and once again a potion was needed. Purugly then took a small Icy Wind. The potions had yet to fail me. I switched tactics to Headbutts, and the Double Teams finally pulled through against a scratch attack. Again I tried my luck at a Headbutt, but Mich’elle used Powder Snow. Purugly restored itself with an Oran berry, before once again not hitting Mich’elle. Then the purugly again used scratch, and a potion was once again needed. A faint attack did little damage before I ordered a Headbutt. However, Mich’elle took a nap!

I kept using potions until Mich’elle’s health was at full upon which I ordered a Headbutt. She woke up and ignored me, using an Icy Wind. She then spent the next turn loafing around. I’m starting to run low on potions. Mich’elle then used a powerful Headbutt before using Icy Wind.

Cries of retreat ran through the building, and a daughter was paired with her papa once again. All in a good days work.

Recently restarted Diamond anyway, so I think I'm gonna do Psychic like did with RBY. Though I'll trade over a Ralts or something for my "starter".

[EDIT]Had a game started that was only as far as Jubilife so I just used that one.

Playing as the girl for once. I named her Dawn.

Current blog:
I traded over a freshly hatched male Ralts (inadvertently gave it Psychic, Calm Mind and Thunderbolt through breeding). I forgot to nickname him before I traded him over so for now at least he is simply: RALTS. I trained him up to level 10 before heading over to Oreburgh. But then due to an annoyingly quick level up... he got cocky. After just about getting through route 203 with Ralts barely listening to a word I say I chatted to Roark and proceeded to battle him in the Gym. After losing many times due to Ralts being to lazy or ignorant to listen to me I eventually beat him and gained my first badge. Annoyingly because he levelled up to 15 in the Gym battle he still won't listen to me... I also caught a Geodude to be my HM Slave.

Also grinding for a few minutes.

Platinum Ground Update:

-Grinded a little in Victory Road.
-Beat my rival before the E4
-Defeated Aaron. Surprisingly his attacks took out huge chunks of HP from my team. Luckily Boulder's Rock Slide hit both times on Yanmega and Vespiquen.
-Beat Bertha. It was 1HKOs all around so it was really easy.
-Flint was pretty easy. All 1HKOs except for Houndoom only because it used Sunny Day before Gastrodon used Surf.
-Defeated Lucian, who wasn't too difficult.
-Cynthia:
Gastrodon took out Spiritomb with 2 Surfs.
Turtle used Earthquake on Roserade, who then poisoned him. Since Roserade was in the red, she used a Full Restore while I used an Antidote. Turtle used Crunch, and was poisoned, then defeated Roserade with Earthquake.
Gastrodon used Blizzard on Togekiss, which got it in the yellow. I used a Max Potion and Togekiss used Air Slash. I was going to use Blizzard, but Gastrodon flinched from another Air Slash. It didn't survive the next Air Slash.
I sent out Boulder not knowing Togekiss knew Aura Sphere *facepalm*
So I sent out Garchomp, who defeated Togekiss with Dragon Rush.
Garchomp used Dragon Rush on her Garchomp, who flinched :D (I'm surprised my lower level Garchomp moved first.) My Garchomp defeated it with Dragon Claw.
I didn't switch when she sent out Milotic so I could use a Full Restore on Turtle. Of course she used Ice Beam, which knocked out Garchomp.
When I sent out Turtle I used a Revive on Gastrodon since I had no other Ground types to use, and now I know for sure Turtle would be 1HKOd by an Ice Beam. And wouldn't you know it, that's what happened.
I sent out Gastrodon and used a Hyper Potion. She used Surf, and I used Mud Bomb. This happened again, then I used another Hyper Potion. She used Surf. Mud Bomb. Mirror Coat. Hyper Potion. She missed w/Dragon Pulse. She used Surf. Mud Bomb. Milotic is no more :D
Now for Lucario. I used Revive on Turtle. Lucario fainted Gastrodon w/Aura Sphere.
So I sent out Turtle and used a Hyper Potion. Lucario used Aura Sphere twice. Turtle survived and used Earthquake, the final blow! :D
-Yay, now I'm the champion!

So now I've finish the Ground Monotype Challenge! Here's my final team:

Cor, time for a big update.

- After screaming into a pillow over RALTS' arrogance I went and caught a Machop and traded it for Haley's Abra called Kazza
- I headed up north from Jubilife to Floaroma Town
- After bumping some Galactic heads together in the Valley Windworks and evolving Kazza in the process
- Realising that now Kazza is ignoring me aswell I went to have a scream
- I headed up to Eterna Forest and helped Cheryl through
- After a couple of tries I beat Gardenia. And rejoice, Kazza and my newly evolved KIRLIA actually listen to me! *runs naked through the streets*
- I caught a Meditite called Yamazaru
- I caught a whole bunch of Unown in the Solaceon Ruins and added Francis and Elise, the Unown F and E to my party
- I then caught a Mime Jr. and called him Sarumane (japanese for Monkey see, Monkey do :D)
- After heading over to Jubilife I wiped the floor with Maylene and quickly took off down to Pastoria
- I replaced Elise with Raffee the Girafarig
- I didn't have much trouble with Crasher Wake, apart from my trademark problem of Kazza not listening to me
- The Exp. Share helped Sarumane evolve in the gym battle

You may trade Kirlia back to change his name, I know how annoying it would get. However, you aren't allowed to trade items over, so you'll have to settle for a Gardevoir. I know, Gallade is so much cooler and better in every aspect, but rules is rules.

Update #3(Sorry for the delay, haven’t had internet access or much time to play recently)
-After a few failed attempts at beating Wake due to my team getting its rear handed to it by Floatzel’s ice fang, I did some grinding, but that still didn’t help.
-Bought a bunch of X Defends and X Special Defends and taught Gastrodon Toxic
-Used a poison wall strategy to beat Wake’s gyarados and floatzel by using toxic and spamming x items to the point there attacks didn’t do much, and if I dropped into the yellow used a moomoo milk to avoid the extra brine damage. Once I was effectively walled, slowly chipped away until they fainted. and let Tortera Grass Knot Quagsire
-Chased the galactic grunt, and got the secret potion from Cynthia
-Healed the Psyducks and got a new errand to run for Cynthia
-Got to Celestic town and beat cyrus
-Received HM03
-Beat Nick in Canalave
-Went to Iron Island for some serious level grinding
-Gabite evolved
-Beat Byron rather easily
-Survived Team Galactic’s terror attack
-Traded a Heart Scale so Garchomp would learn Fire Fang, which I really hope will help handle Candice, because if Wake’s Floatzel was any indication, I might be in huge trouble.
-Headed to Lake Valor and beat Saturn there
-Beat Mars at Lake Verity
-Headed north to Snowpoint, found HM08 on the way
-Beat Candice without too much difficulty
-Went to Lake Acuity, and flew to Veilstone to play James Bond

Haxeray June 2nd, 2010 2:25 PM

Here comes another Update =] (scroll to the bottom to see how much badges i have gotten if you dont want to read this) :
-Now after i beat the grass gym leader, i grinded my Haunter and my Koffing (my cousin traded it to me) to lvl 30 and proceded onto the next town.
-After Eterna i went to Hearthome City and Talked to my mom in the contest area. Couldnt wait for my Haunter to DESTROY Fantina's team.
-(in real life) Convinced my cousin to trade me a Haunter for my Haunter, now i have a Gengar (so cool!!!!)
-After Hearthome went to the meaningless town of Solaceon and passed right by it.
-Next i went to Veilstone and defeated Maylene the fighting gym leader. After i beat her, helped Landon get his pokedex back.
-After That i went to Pastoria city and went to the safari/swamp game place and caught a Croagunk... i am very unlucky...took me HOURS of changing my DS setting and days... But i finally got one.
-Went in there and failed to beat Wake. =[
-Grinded for a couple of minutes (30 minutes =[) and finally defeated Wake.
-Chased the Galactic guy.
-Went to Celestic Town and stopped the guy from blowing it up.
-Got HM Surf =]
-Went to Jubilife city and surfed to Canalave City.
-I fought my rival and destroyed him.
-Fought Roark's dad, Byron. Wasnt very hard, but took alot of super potions.
-met with Prof. Rowan
-Very big Earthquake.
-Went to Lake Valor and took out all the guys there.ow
-Then i went to Hearthome city and then Killed Fantina with Gengar and her (Gengar is a Girl) Shadow Punch And Thunder. Now i have 6 badges.
-Then i went through a snowstorm to Snowpoint city.
-Grinded for about an hour and defeated The Snow gym leader (forgot her name).
-Now im about to Go into Lake Acuity (am i suposed to go to lake Verity first??)

Now i will tell you my team and how i got them:

C-Thru the Gengar:
-Lvl: 45
-Obtained by trading wwith my cousin.

Slither the Arbok:
-Lvl: 42
-Obtained by trading my piplup to my Cousin.

Alert the Tentacruel:
-Lvl: 42
-Obtained by catching it while in the water.

Toxik the Toxicroak:
-Lvl: 42
-Obtained in the Swamp/Safari thing in Pastoria.

Greenbat the SHINY Golbat:
-Lvl: 43
-Traded from my friend. He has Pearl so he said once i get Dialga, i can trade it to him for the shiny Golbat.

If you scrolled down, I now have a total of 7 Gym Badges.

If you read the whole thing Congrats!!!!!
P.S. (please forgive me for all my spelling errors. This is going by really fast!!!)

OHHH NOOOOOOO!!!!! I thought we could trade over any pokemon!!!! i forgot about Only one!!!!!!!!! DANG IT!!!!! IS it OK if i traded 2-3 poison types?????

myrrhman June 2nd, 2010 4:35 PM

Yeah, its fine. Just stop using 2 of them and you'll be ok. If you can get your Gengar back (the one that you traded to your cousin) you can use it again, and catch it up to the rest of your team.

Haxeray June 3rd, 2010 4:03 PM

Ok... I got rid of my Golbat and the Weezing. And i got the original C-thru (gengar) back. Now its time for an update:
-Spent an hour training my new Gengar.
-Got to Volkner and killed him with Toxicroak's earthquake.
-Got Waterfall from Jasmine.
-Went to Elite four.
-Had to make it through Victory Road (easier than expected)
-Beat Aaron with Gengar (the original one)
-I then beat Bertha with Tentacruel (EAZY PEAZY)
-Flint wasnt very hard either. Took out Lopunny with Toxicroak and his revenge.
-The psychic guy, (cant remember his name), wasnt very easy. Kept getting destroyed by Alakazam's Psychic. But its ok because i figure out Gengar learned Dark Pulse, but my cousin deleted it, so i went into the mine and got a Heart Scale. Then i beat Him.
-Finally i got to Cynthia..... WAS VERY HARD!!!!!!! Garchomp was taken out in one hit though, With tentacruel and Ice Beam (bough tit at Game corner).

!!!!!Now im the league champion!!!!!!!!

Hey um now that my mono-type is over, can i try the solo run. I wanna do Munchlax and Gengar but cant choose =[.....

The time on my computer is weird...

Myrrhman, ummm can i now delete my save file and start my solo run??

Cardwell74 June 3rd, 2010 6:42 PM

-Beat Cyrus
-KO'd Giratina for the EXP
-Beat all the trainers on the way to Sunnyshore

Ummmmmm I have beat the Elite four, so is the moono-type over???

myrrhman June 4th, 2010 2:29 PM

i'm back. I didn't get to update yesterday because it was the first day of summer classes. But i'm back now. Yeah, you're done here.

Cardwell74 June 5th, 2010 9:49 AM

Update #5
-Caught a Rhyhorn to deal with those pesky water-flying types
-Left Victory Road and got TM24
-gave Rhyhorn a Rare candy and it evolved to Rhydon
-let Rhydon hold a Protector and traded it to another game and back to evolve it into Rhyperior. Taught him Thunderbolt, Rock Tomb and Iron Tail
-Went back to Victory Road
-Caught a Graveler to use Explosion or Self-destruct in the E4
-Made it though
-beat Nick in the Pokemon Centre
-Headed into the Elite 4

Aaron Battle: Perfect Example Type Coverage
-Garchomp Fire Fanged Yanmega, but it u-turned out to drapion, which ate an earthquake and went down
-A pair of Fire Fangs took out Heracross
-Rhyperior got a Critical Hit with Stone Edge on Vespiquen
-A Fire Fang OHKO’d Scizor, and a second Fire Fang finished off an already hurt Yanmega

It’s at this point I saved, and realized I forgot to bring Graveler in. Oh well, I didn’t train him any, just a bomb.

Bertha Battle: Ground vs. Ground
-A Giga Drain didn’t quiet finish off Whiscash, so I used an X Special on the turn she healed, and as a result KO’d it next turn. Torterra leveled up and learned Leaf Storm!
-She sent out Gliscor, and I sent out Gastrodon. Took an Earthquake but OHKO’d it with Ice Beam
-Hippowdon hit an Earthquake, and survived surf. I didn’t heal because I thought she would, but she didn’t and Gastrodon went down to Earthquake, but Torterra took him out
-Torterra also took out Golem with Leaf Storm
-Her Rhyperior took out Torterra with a surprise Avalanche, but my Garchomp was too fast and finished it with an Earthquake

Healed and used some PP Ups on Leaf Storm

Flint Battle: This is Gonna be Fun
-Stupid Houndoom used Sunny day, so it took two Surfs
-Garchomp was faster than Rapidash, and OHKO’d it with Earthquake
-Garchomp also OHKO’d Falreon, Magmortar and Infernape

Lucian Battle: Toughest Test
-Mr. Mime used Reflect, but went down to 2 Crunches
-Grachomp’s Earthquake isn’t doing much. Stupid Reflect. We are both in the red, and both heal, and Reflect is gone. Eathquake takes it to the red, and a Slash puts Espeon away.
-2 Fire Fangs put Bronzong in the red. I thought he would heal, so I used an X Attack, but he didn’t, so Garchomp went down. Hammer Arm from Rhyperior put Bronzong down.
-When I needed the quick claw it came though, and Torterra put Gallade away with Earthquake
-Torterra survived Alakazam’s Psychic with 31 hp, and got a Critical Hit with Crunch

Healed before going into the Champion’s Room

Cynthia Battle: Main Event
-Garchomp out ran Spiritomb, and finished it with a pair of Earthquakes
-She sent out her Garchomp, who missed a Dragon Rush and BARELY survived and Ice Beam from Gastrodon. History, however, repeated itself, a missed Dragon Rush, and an Ice Beam, this time for the KO
-Garchomp Fire Fanged Roserade, but it survived. Garchomp got poisoned. I opted to use an X Attack for a guaranteed KO instead of healing the poison on the turn Cynthia healed.
-Milotic used Ice Beam and OHKO’d Torterra. Bad luck with the Quick Claw
-Used the Toxic Wall strategy I used on Wake against Milotic.
-Lucario OHKO’d Rhyperior with Aura Sphere
-Send out Gastrodon, but healed Garchomp instead. Gastrodon took the fall. I regret sending out Rhyperior and losing my wall
-An Earthquake from Garchomp OHKO’d Lucario
-Took a few turns to heal Gastrodon while Togekiss Air Slashed Garchomp
-Garchomp hit Togekiss with Dragon Rush and it flinched. Air Slash put Garchomp down the next turn though when Slash didn’t put it away.
-Cynthia healed, allowing Gastrodon to hit Ice Beam. Air Slash missed, and Ice Beam Froze Togekiss. One last Ice Beam ended the battle and my challenge.

Final Team:

Torterra (Lvl 57)
-Leaf Storm
-Curse
-Earthquake
-Crunch

Gastrodon (Lvl 56)
-Surf
-Toxic
-Mud Bomb
- Ice Beam
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/c/cb/445.png
Garchomp (Lvl 57)
-Dragon Rush
-Fire Fang
-Slash
-Earthquake
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/d/d4/464.png
Rhyperior (Lvl 51)
-Thunderbolt
-Hammer Arm
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake

And Special thanks to all my HM Slaves
Budew: Cut
Geodude: Rock Smash
Bibarrel: Surf, Rock Smash, Waterfall and Rock Climb
Tropius: Cut, Fly, Strength, Defog

Challenge wasn’t too hard. The hardest parts were Wake and Lucian. My MVP was Garchomp, he beat Candice, Aaron, and Flint almost single handedly. Gastrodon was a great wall against Wake and Cynthia’s Milotic. My LVP was Rhyperior, he wasn’t on my team very long, and his Special Attack wasn’t that good, so Thunderbolt wasn’t very good, and his purpose, to beat water-flying types, wasn’t very necessary at that point. Were I to have caught a Rhyhorn before I battled Wake, the case would have been different. Overall, I enjoyed doing this challenge. I love ground types, and X items are awesome.

Bart Crab June 5th, 2010 8:13 PM

I won't be able to have time to play until mid july as i'm going on a holiday.

myrrhman June 21st, 2010 8:02 AM

Well, time for me to do this challenge. I'm using Ghost Types.

Update 1: Named myself A, and Rival You (so I could see You defeated You!). I played a bit yesterday, and finished the Poketch stuff. So now, I beat everyone north of Jubilife, and You. Saved because I had to go to class.

EJ June 21st, 2010 2:57 PM

I'll join.

Name: EJ
Version: Pearl
Type: Ground

I'll probably update later tonight.

myrrhman June 25th, 2010 9:24 PM

Nother update.

I went through with my HM Slave 1 (Turtwig) all the way to beat Roark, where he evolved. Ho hum now the Ghosts will be harder to catch. So I went and cleared out the Windworks, trying to get me a Drifloon, but I can't find it anywhere. Oh well, lets go get a Gastly. I couldn't get the 4% gastly, even though I ran into one Dustox and Beautifly (1%) and plenty of cas/silcoons (5%). Finally found and caught Gastly when I was about to give up for the night. Named it Enigma. Saved and quit.

EJ June 26th, 2010 10:56 AM

It feels like I've done a lot but really I only have two Gym badges.

I did the usual beginning stuff. I chose turtwig to help me out and I quickly grew accustomed to having him around. Once I talked to Rowan and my mom, etc. Lucas gave me 5 pokeballs to help me out in my journey. (Yes I picked Dawn as my character...I hate lucas' beret.) I proceeded to Jubilife where I saw Barry and I handed him his parcel. He gave me a town map...SCORE! I then headed to Oreburgh where I saw my rival and he challenged me. I won and continued my trek. I made it to Oreburgh where I went down the mine immediately and caught an Onix for my team. I trained Turtwig until he evolved into Grotle. I then talked to Roark and he showed me rock smash (Oh yeah that hiker gave me his HM!! =] ) He went to his gym and I followed. I defeated his friends and then beat him easily with a combination of Absorb and Razor Leaf.

After I was done I placed Onix in front and fought everybody/everything with Onix until he reached Grotle's level. This included grinding him in the Eterna Forest (thanks to Cheryl's healing!) After that was done I made it to Eterna City where I knew I would have a tough time. Grotle fought bravely and managed to beat all the trainers in the gym. I then faced Gardenia and started with Onix. I nearly beat Cherrim but he fell to one hit. Grotle was sent out as my only resort. I used curse and proceeded to use Bite. I beat cherrim easily but then Roserade was up next. It used poison sting and poisoned my Grotle. I managed to beat it continuously using Bite. After that was done, I used an antidote and potion on Grotle. I was fighting her turtwig. I was afraid I might lose because poison had hurt me enough to render my only potion not very helpful. Grotle however proved to be strong and beat Turtwig. Once that was over I received cut from some random lady. (Thanks much!) I then caught a Bidoof so it could learn cut. I went inside the building that was sealed and liberated a bike man. He gave me a free bike =] I kept going on my journey. Right now I'm about 5 minutes away from Solaceon.

Note: I ommitted the boring stuff (valley windworks, etc.)

Roxal15 June 26th, 2010 12:04 PM

The game I'm useing is Platinum and the type I'm useing will be Normal types (There's something about them I like)

I had left my home town with Piplup as my starter. With it I caught Bidoof and also a Starly to start off my team and trained them by battleing other wild pokemon and trainers like Yongsters.

As I got to the first gym, my Bidoof evolved and learned Water Gun.

I am now one cave away from it.

POKEMON ON HAND:

Bibarel-Male
Level 15
Normal/ Water
Attacks: Tackle, Growl, Rollout, Water Gun

Starly-Male
Level 13
Normal/ Flying
Attacks: Tackle, Quick Attack, Growl, Wing Attack

skiffz June 26th, 2010 11:01 PM

Hey Guys!
I will be attempting this challenge with Ground Types and on Diamond. I will try to do a update once a day.

And heres Update 1:
I started the game naming myself (skiffz) and my Rival (zypher).
I then followed Zypher to Verity Lakefront and chose Turtwig as my starter, and used it to defeat the wild Starly.
I then treked to Sandgem Town, and nicknamed Turtwig Serene/ recieved the pokedex.
I then got the noob tour of Sandgem town by Dawn/let Mom know about my upcoming journey/recieved Journal and Parcel.
I then went up to route 202 and got a pokemon catching lesson from Dawn (yawn) and recieved 5 pokeballs from her.
I then trumped all the trainers on route 202 and Healed serene at the pokemon center in Jubilife city. I then went to the trainers school and trumped the two trainers with abras then delievered the parcel to Zypher and gladly accepted the Town Map and Tm 10. I then went and did the Poketch Campaign and recieved the Poketch. I then made a quick stop at the Jubilife condiminiums to recieve a free quick claw that I gave to serene. I then got the old rod.
After that i saved and went to bed.

Current Team:
Turtwig (Serene)
Level 11
Moves: Tackle, Withdraw, Absorb.

Update 2:
I went ahead and beat the first few trainers on route 204 before I go on and face Zypher. So here it goes!

Rival Battle 1:
He sends out a starly, so I was nervous because of the type difference, but it only used growl the intire time so it was no problem. Next he sent out his chimchar, so all i did was spam tackle and defeated him easily.

I then continued onto Route 203, easily defeating all the trainers and Finally! I get to Oregburgh Gate which means I have a chance to Catch a geodude. So I enter Orgburgh Gate take two steps and bam a level 6 Geodude appears. I throw a pokeball on my first turn and I was surprised to see that I had caught it. I then nicknamed Geodude Loco. I then continued on to Orgburgh City which I then heal my pokemon. I then started grinding up Loco and Serene. I get them both upto 16 and then I think I am ready to take on the Gym Leader so I go to Orgburgh Mine and fetch him, But as I am exiting the mine a Wild Onix Attacked me and I thought "oh thats perfect" so I caught it and named it Cake. I then train Cake up a few levels to level 13 and then go challenge the Gym.

Orgburgh Gym:
Trainer 1:
He sent out a geodude and I sent out Serene and I OHKO'd it with one razor leaf.

Trainer 2:
For the second trainer I stayed with Serene and OHKO'd his geodude and onix with two more razor leafs.

Roark:
For Roark I start with Serene, (now level 17 after the first two battles) yet again and i OHKO his geodude and onix. Then he sends out his Cranidos and I defeated it with 2 razor leafs. Which then leveled Serene upto 18 and then evolves. He then gives me the coal badge and Tm76 as a reward.

Current Team:
Grotle(Serene)
Level 18
Moves: Tackle, Curse, Absorb, Razor Leaf

Geodude(Loco)
Level 16
Moves: Tackle, Rock Polish, Rock Throw, Magnitude

Onix(Cake)
Level 13
Moves: Tackle, Mud Sport, Bind, Rock Throw.
End of Update 2

Update 3:
I treked back to Jubilife City and rescued the Prof from the Team Galactic Grunts and recieved the Fashion Case. I then went up to Route 204 and caught myself a Bidoof and named it Slave since it will be a HM Slave. After I caught Slave I went through Ravaged Path and the rest of Route 204 and found myself at Floaroma Town. I then went and caught a Shellos and named it Mildew. Then I went and did bit of grinding and after I finished Grinding here were my Levels.

Serene:
Level 20
Moves: Tackle, Curse, Absorb, Razer Leaf

Loco:
Level 18
Moves: Tackle, Magnitude, Rock Throw, Selfdestruct

Cake:
Level 18
Moves: Rock Tomb, Bind, Rage, Rock Throw

Mildew:
Level 18
Moves: Mudslap, Hidden Power, Mud Bomb, Water Pulse

Slave:
Level 3
Moves: Tackle, Rock Smash

So with my newly trained Pokemon I went and took on all the grunts with ease and recieved the Valley Windworks Key. With the Windworks Key I entered the Valley Windworks, and took on the first two grunts with Loco by spamming Magnitude.

Event Battle: Team Galactic Commander Mars
To start of with Cake and OHKO her Zubat with Rockthrow. Then I switched to Mildew to fight her Purugly and I defeat her by spamming Water Pulse and using one potion in the middle of the fight. I then get grats from her and she says well meet again.

This Ends Update 3!

EJ June 28th, 2010 1:31 PM

I made it to the 3rd gym but I figured I might as well head to Pastoria and get wooper and begin training.

After Maylene I'll chase hippopotas.

MichaelaTheUchiha June 28th, 2010 4:32 PM

I'll try my hand at Water (kukukuku, PALKIA TIME) on Pearl. Though I won't be saving due to the fact that I love my Pearl to much to delete it (since Pearl is my pokedex game, I have a lot of the pokemon and it's also the EV training game), and I really don't know where to find an Emerlator and I can't download anything because my computer's firewall sucks and I get like five computer/internet crashes every hour or so. Sometimes ten minutes if it's a really bad day. XD

-Named myself Kaida and named rival Barry
-Battled Starly with Piplup and pwned.
-Name Piplup Chi Akuma and started my way to Jubilife City.

This is going to take me awhile. XD

Corruptodile June 29th, 2010 4:03 PM

Ok, I decided on what I want to do, and finally got a Platinum ROM working.

Sign me up for the Normal Challenge. (kekekekeh STARAPTOR!)

I'll update ASAP and inform if my Platinum file decides to delete itself.

Username: Corruptodile
Type: Normal
Version: Platinum

Normal should be fun eh? :)

I'll be showing my updates in screenshots.

First off:

-Confirmed I was a boy, called myself Aero. Called rival Cyclone. Like I always do. :P
-My adventure begins! No more text! Well...little...but mostly screen shots!

Sir Spamalot June 30th, 2010 9:44 AM

Hey. Could I join up with Ice please?

Charmageddon June 30th, 2010 10:07 AM

Hey, can I do this with Flying on Platinum?

EDIT:

I made some userbars for everyone:

Spoiler:

Anyone know how I make the white background transparent rather than white?

Charmageddon July 3rd, 2010 11:22 AM

Sooo.... first update. *wonders if anyone else is here*

I started my journey with an awful lot of exposition. I do wish there was a way to avoid the endless "Did you know Pokemon have types?" intro stuff they force you to endure every game. Anyway, I picked Piplup since he's a bird, but as soon as I got Pokeballs I caught a Starly. Making my way through Jubilife to Oreburgh with my loyal Starly, Blackwing, I caught a Zubat and named it Darla.

Do you know how annoying it is to train a low-level Zubat. Leech Life and Astonish were all the attacks I had for a long time... I praised the heavens when it finally learned Bite. Meanwhile, Blackwing evolved into Staravia, and I went to challenge the gym.

Zubat, with a Supersonic+Bite combo, beat Geodude and Onix with surprising ease. I got lucky with flinchax quite a lot. Staravia came in to face Craniados, and I started a Double-teaming tactic but in the end that was pointless, as Craniados is hopelessly frail and it took only 3 Wing Attacks to beat it. And so the Coal Badge was won.

Made my way to Floaroma and beat Team Galactic there. Darla beat Mars' Zubat, and Blackwing let Purugly bring him down to 3HP, before using Endeavour and then Quick Attack to win it. Caught a female Drifloon outside, and named it Duffy.

Grind... grind... reached Eterna and headed straight for the gym. Darla, Duffy and Blackwing slaughtered the Grass-types there, and Darla evolved into Golbat after the battle with Gardenia (a battle that consisted of spamming Gust/Wing Attack and nothing else.

Beat Galactic in their hideout. Duffy beat Zubat with two Gusts, and Darla confused Skuntank and did some damage before falling, and Blackwing finished the job. Outside, I got a Togepi egg and then headed south to pick up a Gligar, who I named Scorpula. When Togepi hatched I named him Scramblore, and for the last hour or so I've just been grinding him near Eterna. Godammit I hate training a baby for a happiness evolution with nothing to fight but bloody Wurmples.

Team so far:

Darla (Golbat)
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/7/71/Spr_4p_042_f.png
Lvl. 24
Inner Focus
- Bite
- Wing Attack
- Confuse Ray
- Astonish
Darla is as awesome as the character she's named after. She took ages to get any good, but when she's good she's very very good. She won't stay much longer though, I've used the Zubat family too may times, I'm only using Pokemon I've never used before in this run.

Blackwing (Staravia)
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/8/87/Spr_4p_397_m.png
Lvl. 23
Intimidate
- Double Team
- Endeavour
- Wing Attack
- Quick Attack
Same as Darla.

Duffy (Drifloon)
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/f/f9/Spr_4p_425.png
Lvl. 24
Aftermath
- Astonish
- Gust
- Payback
- Minimize
I love her design, but she really needs to learn some more powerful attacks/evolve.

Scramblore (Togepi)
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/07/Spr_4p_175.png
Lvl. 20
Hustle
- Metronome
- Yawn
- Charm
- Grass Knot
Just fricking evolve already.

Scorpula (Gligar)
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/e/e7/Spr_4p_207_m.png
Lvl. 17
Hyper Cutter
- Rock Tomb
- Quick Attack
- Sand-Attack
- Knock Off
Just grinding him now, can't really judge how good he is yet.

MareBear July 3rd, 2010 12:26 PM

Sign me up for a Steel monotype on Pearl. I'm bored with my Pearl game right now so this will be good for me. Also, this is my first challenge so I might take it slow but still I will try to update every few days when I can. Thanks! XD

Sir Spamalot July 4th, 2010 5:17 AM

Ok. I've started with Psychic(Sorry I said Ice earlier lol)
I chose a random starter and did all the usual stuff. Chose a girl and named myself Dawn, and my rival Tyson. Chose Turtwig and fought my way quickly to Roark and beat him easily using turtwig.

then got my trade in and got a level 1 beldum in return for my turtwig. On my way back to Jubilife i ran into an Abra and caught it.

Been training these two, evolved abra and have now just beaten the valley windworks.

Current team:
:t374:
Beldum - Level 14
Takedown
:t064:
Kadabra - Level 17
Teleport
Hidden power
Confusion

1 badge so far.

MareBear July 5th, 2010 7:10 AM

So, I started my Steel Monotype Challenge on Pearl. I've done a lot so this post might be long so bear with me here. Anyway, onto my challenge!

- I started the game and named myself Mary (after myself) and my rival
Ryan (after my hyper and energetic best friend). Chose Piplup and went
through all of the introduction tutorial things.
- Caught my first Pokemon, Bidoof, for my HM Slave. I didn't even meet a
Starly along the way so I'll find another one to use for my Flier later in
the game.
- Went to Jubilife City, obtained the Poketch, completed everything that
could be done and left to face my rival, Ryan. He was pretty easy to beat
with only my Piplup and HM Slave Bidoof.
- I beat the trainers on Route 203 and headed through the Oreburgh Gate
to Oreburgh City.
- I obtained Rock Smash and made it to Oreburgh City while beating the
trainers at the Gate.
- Found Roark in the Mine and caught an Onix, the second member of my
team (well almost).
- Traded Onix to my Diamond game, where I gave him a Metal Coat and
traded him back to Pearl where he evolved into a Steelix, my official
second member of my party.
- Took on the Oreburgh Gym without training. Piplup took out Roark
singlehandedly, while also evolving into Prinplup at the end.
- Headed back to Jubilife City and beat the Galactic Grunts with ease after
tagging up with Lucas. I then realized after the battle that my Steel types
are going to take a long, long time to beat down opponents because of
their horrible attack stat. Still, that should be solved when they evolve into
their final forms.
- Anyway, I took Route 204 to get to Floraroma Town where I promply
took out the Grunt at the Windworks and back in town.
- Beat Mars from the Windworks, again easy but long, and headed for
Eterna Forest.
- Teamed up with Cheryl and made it through the Forest without many
problems, except her Chansey fainting twice along the way. >_<
- Got to Eterna City where I immediately went to get the Explorers Kit to
find myself an Armor Fossil to evolve into a Sheldon.
- It took me an entire HOUR but I finally found an Armor Fossil. I soon
realized, however, that I needed to backtrack all the way to Oreburgh to
get my Sheldon. It didn't take me as long as I feared so after obtaining my
Sheldon, I went back to Eterna to challenge Gardenia.
- The first time I challenged Gardenia, I FAILED MISERABLY. Her Turtwig
was the most annoying, seeing as he used Withdraw and Reflect every
turn so even my super effective moves took out hardly any HP.
- After failing for the third time, I decided to grind my Pokes a little to
around level 22-23. At the time all three of my team members were at level
20 so after leveling up in the Eterna Forest, I FINALLY beat Gardenia.
- I entered the Galactic Building and beat the Grunts there easily.
Challenged Jupiter and beat her easily as well.
- Grabbed my bike and immediately went to Cycling Road to catch my
Bronzor, my fourth member of my team.
- After catching Bronzor I back tracked to beat the rest of the trainers on
Cycling Road then went to Oreburgh to save and heal for the night.

OK, second update, lets do this.

Scramblore finally evolved into Togetic, about time too, and so I made my way to Hearthome. Went to the gym, and got my arse promptly handed to me. I've always had problems with that Mismagius. So I went away and grinded a little more, and Darla evolved into Crobat. Back at the gym, things were a lot easier with a Crobat on my team, I beat most of the team with Bite. Scorpula and Duffy helped out too, but it was quite a short rematch. Oh, and my rival - who I named Jorge - challenged me when I was leaving Hearthome. I don't really remember what happened, I think it was a pretty easy battle.

Then came the long journey, through Solaceon, through Veilstone, until I reached Pastoria, and could catch myself a Yanma and a Tropius in the Great Marsh - by God I hate that place. Who's clever idea was it to make a Safari Zone where you couldn't actually move? Anyway, I named them Dracosect and Mangosaur respectively, and got grinding. Beat Maylene while I was at it, I thought it would be easy against an all-Fighting gym. But Dracosect went straight down to her Meditite's Rock Tomb - Mangosaur fared better, beating it with Fly. Duffy took care of Machoke with Gust, and Scorpula's Dig did the job against Lucario.

After some more grinding, I got everyone up to lvl. 33, therefore evolving Dracosect into Yanmega, and along the way I picked up a Razor Fang, and so evolved Scorpula into Gliscor. And so I went to challenge Crasher Wa... oh, hey Jorge.Duffy took care of that Staravia with Shock Wave, and Grotle with Gust. Ponyta ate a Dig from Scorpula, and Buizel died to Scramblore's Return. He went away, so I could challenge Crasher Wake.

It was a pretty awesome battle, I should've recorded it. His Gyarados hurt Duffy a lot with Waterfall, who replied with a Shock Wave that took about two thirds of its health. Gyarados finished her with Bite, Aftermath sending it into the red. Then I sent Dracosect out for his very first battle as a Yanmega... Wake predictably healed, and Dracosect used Ancientpower for about 1/3 damage. Then another - god I love Speed Boost - which gave him stat boosts all around. Ice Fang hurt a little, but another Ancientpower finished the job. Then Floatzel came out, and Silver Wind did just over half damage, an Ice Fang putting Dracosect in the orange. Another Silver Wind - which gave me more boosts - finished the job. I thougt for sure Quagsire would kill me with Rock Tomb... but Dracosext survived with 3HP and a second Silver Wind beat Quagsire and won me the Fen Badge. Go Yanmega!

Got the potion from Cynthia and went straight to catch the final member of my team - a Swablu named Cottonwing. Spent the last year (or possibly day) grinding Swablu, and just now she has finally evolved into Altaria. Then I came here to update...

Team:

Duffy (Drifblim)
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/7/75/Spr_4p_426.png
Lvl. 35
Aftermath
- Ominous Wind
- Gust
- Shock Wave
- Defog
Average stats, rubbish attacks. Disappointment all around. Nice design though.

Scorpula (Gliscor)
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/c/cb/Spr_4p_472.png
Lvl. 35
Hyper Cutter
- Night Slash
- Dig
- Ice Fang
- Quick Attack
Brilliant so far, I have to stop myself from using it too often because it could beat everything on its own. Joint MVP with Dracosect.

Scramblore (Togetic)
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/7/75/Spr_4p_176.png
Lvl. 35
Hustle
- Ancientpower
- Grass Knot
- Metronome
- Return
I kinda wish she had Serene Grace... but Hustle means that Return packs a hell of a punch. A decent Pokemon so far, and one that I predict will be even
stronger when I get my hands on a Shiny Stone.

Mangosaur (Tropius)
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/63/Spr_4p_357.png
Lvl. 35
Clorophyll
- Magical Leaf
- Fly
- Stomp
- Whirlwind
It's a dinosaur that grows bananas out its neck, what more do you want?

Dracosect (Yanmega)
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/06/Spr_4p_469.png
Lvl. 35
Speed Boost
- Ancientpower
- Aerial Ace
- Silver Wind
- Supersonic
I love him. Great stats, great attacks, great ability, great design... Dracosect is the coolest. Joint MVP with Scorpula.

Cottonwing (Altaria)
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/c/c4/Spr_4p_334.png
Lvl. 35
Natural Cure
- Fly
- Dragonbreath
- Sing
- Earthquake
A nice Pokemon... too early to judge Altaria yet.

I'm gonna give it a go with poison type in Platinum. I'll update tomorrow
Nevermind, I'm gonna do a Nuzlocke instead

Corruptodile July 13th, 2010 11:52 AM

Well, after countless attempts of putting in screenshots, I epically failed.

So, make do with text updates.

What would have been screen shots would have been me showing you how far I got before my first save. I got as far as Dawn showing me how to catch a Bidoof.
-After taking an extended break on Pokémon (due to unforseen circumstances regarding screenshots and all around boredom :/), I caught a Starly and Bidoof.

Vroke July 18th, 2010 10:13 AM

I'm going to try this with Flying Pokemon.

Here is the team I'm going to use:

Stararptor - Normal/Flying
Drifblim - Ghost/Flying
Honchkrow - Dark/Flying
Crobat - Poison/Flying
Mantine - Water/Flying
Mothim - Bug/Flying

I'll give an update in a bit.
