Thanks for the compliment. ^^ Also, as you already know, they're still non-evolved pokemon and a baby ones, with the exception of Scrabbit, who is supposed to be small in size. Eventually, I'll be spriting the evolutions. ^^

Updates!

My grass starter's concept has been finalized and I completely re-sprited it, making sure its orientation is correct. I also opened her eyes, so instead of a (^_^) face it now has a (._.) face, which I find way cuter and less confusing. xD

Onwards with the sprite ... !

(Old | New)

While it's true that it's a bit simple,
it's evolutions offer a lot of detail, and are, until now, my favorite concepts. ^^ Also, since no one suggested any good names for this little guy, I racked my brain hard and came up with names for the whole evolution line. This fellow is Cleri, which evolves into Cloble and depending on it's gender, evolves into either Clorince (Male) or Clorincess (Female).

Name origins:

* Cleri - Play on the word 'Clover'.
* Cloble - Clover + Noble
* Clorince / Clorincess - Clover + Prince / Princess.

And that's it for them.

I've decided to scrap the idea of a Tauros / Miltank baby since I've decided that those two aren't included in my region. The entry is going to be removed from the main post, but I'm reposting it here for the archive.

Also, since no one seems to be voting (I've only got two votes up to now), I've decided to choose between them.
From the suggested three, only the second one looks fine (Red - Blue - Green) since the yellow and cyan stick out too much. The original one (Purple - Green - Blue) also made it to the semi finals. Now I've done my research on pokemon items and noticed that one thing ties them: All of the items are vibrantly colored and seem to be a direct representation of what they're supposed to be. Color plays an important role here, and I've decided to go with the one that portrays the idea better.

The chosen incense is ...

Even though I liked the original one more, this one seems to fit in more with the common style, and represents a rainbow better than the original version.

And that's it for this update guys! I'd love to know what you think of the revamped grass starter, so don't hesitate of expressing your opinion! Go ahead with all criticism and feedback you've got. xD

The new Cleri is awesome, really good, but I liked the old one's clover pattern on it's face... just my opinion though!

I'm thinking of bringing back the clover pattern, it's just that I'm too tired to do so today. Thanks for your compliment. ^^

The Original Darkwiz787 May 13th, 2010 11:34 AM

The new Cleri looks like it belongs on the overworld of your generic RPG Maker XP, just the angle it's on. It's still great, though.

Star-Shower May 13th, 2010 11:34 AM

Loving the work Dots, if you need any help with ya game feel free to ask

Colbex May 13th, 2010 11:57 AM

hm... I like names... o.o For the Scmeargle/Scrabbit prevo what about something like... Doodlaby or Doodly... something revolving around Doodles, since that's all I can think of that could become Smear or Scribble... Oh, or maybe something like Abstreak (Abstract + streak)) oh, oh, or something like Crafant (Craft + Infant) o_O yea... I definitely just got too excited...

Esper May 13th, 2010 12:43 PM

It looks less evil now. The collar gives it a little more character, too, but the clover design was interesting. What happened to it?

Wouldn't the ribbons/sprouts/whatever on its head be lower on the right side since that whole side is lower/closer looking?

Hm ... can you elaborate, please? I don't seem to understand what you meant there.

Doodlaby, Abstreak, and Crafant are a bit hard to say in addition to being too long for a baby pokemon. Doodly is too simple.

I appreciate your help, and I'd like to get more suggestions from you. ^^

Yup, I like the collar too, and the fact that people don't find it evil anymore. xD

And like I mentioned in one of the posts above, I was just too tired to place it there yesterday, and now that I look at my update post, I think I also forgot to mention that. ^^'

Here's the updated Cleri with the pattern on it's face. ^^

(Pattern Added)

Also, like Scarf suggested, I've brought the ribbons/sprouts on our right down a few pixels, so does it look any better now?

Your spriting is quite good. The only criticism I have is to up the size of your sprites. For the next sprite maybe have a guide official sprite next to the one your creating. This may help to get proportions right =)

I already do so. ^^

And all of those, as you noticed, are either unevolved or baby pokemon, with the exception of Scrabbit and the Pierrollon line. I'm revamping all of those before moving on to my other concepts.

Peeky Chew May 14th, 2010 7:28 AM

Nice sprites, I'm looking forward to seing more.

Wow, it looks even better with the pattern now!

Co500 May 16th, 2010 5:49 AM

Darkrailuver May 16th, 2010 7:00 AM

Wow, your sprites are really good! They look like they could actually be in one of the games! :)
Keep up the good work!

It's a nice thing to know that my sprites are liked. I still would've preferred it if you guys gave me more constructive criticism though.

Thank you. ^^ And I'm probably making a game with those included. ^^

Anyways, I've got an update. ^^

You guys remember this those guys? Well they were both tweaked to fit in with my newer sprites, but in the case of Scrabbit, the concept's been completely resprited. ^^

Here are the newer ones (=D) :

This guy was reshaded, since I liked his pose and didn't want to change it. I like it more now since it fits better with official sprites and the lines (especially at the joints connecting the legs to the body) look cleaner/smoother.

Since that wasn't much, we'll be moving on to Scrabbit. ^^

http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt262/ChocotheBear/Upcoming%20Fakedex/Scrabbit.png ---> http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt262/ChocotheBear/Upcoming%20Fakedex/ScrabbitRevamp.png
(Old | New)

I feel like this has been a drastic improvement, and I'm really happy with how this turned out. The pose has been changed to reflect the sweet personality of this pokemon and to deviate from it's pre-evolution's pose. I've also done the shading in a simpler way. I'd really appreciate criticism/feedback on how to improve on this. ^^

So guys, that's the end of the update. I'd really really really like to hear what you guys think about this, so please try to include constructive criticism in your posts. xD

gol May 16th, 2010 4:55 PM

Wow, the new Scrabbit is good. My only problem is the drop, Scrabbit's pose makes it look like it's leaping forward or balance leaning forward, so the paint dot should be (IMO) tilted a little more backwards.

Thanks. ^^

It's not leaping forward or leaning forward; the pose was supposed to look similar to a twirl. Also, would you please clarify what you mean by 'tilt the drop a little more backwards'?

gol May 17th, 2010 11:11 AM

Leaning forward, okie dokie.

Well, just make the dot look like it's coming from an angle, anyway you want. Right now it just looks like it's falling straight down, which doesn't work with the pose IMO.

Esper May 17th, 2010 1:10 PM

The new pose is quite nice. I like how it's holding its hands in. That gives it a little more personality. That foot seems to have lost all shading though. It's normal for the main part of a foot not to have shading if it's meant to look like it's further back, but even still I don't think it looks good with a completely black outline.

By the way, you've chosen some pleasing palettes for your sprites.

Hm ... I'll see to that in a few minutes and see if an edit is possible. ^^

For the foot, you're right, it does stick out. I'll be editing the sprite and reposting it then. ^^ I'm glad you like the palettes too, although not all of them are made by me.

A few minutes later ...

Edited! I've fixed the drop and added details to the foot. Is it better now, Scarf and Gol?

So let me check what I still have on my checklist.

~ The Polka-Dot Checklist (xD) ~

1 - Re-Sprite Grass Starter (now named Cleri) Done!
2 - Revise ???'s Sprite Done!
3 - Re-Sprite Scrabbit Done!
4 - Re-Sprite Larpau (formerly Taupille) Done!
5 - Revise Chrysil's Sprite Done!
6 - Re-Sprite Pierollon Done!
7 - Revise Weebull's Sprite Done!
(As of ~Monday, May 24 2010~, everything mentioned in the checklist had been finished)

And apparently, I've still got three more things to do before moving on to spriting the new concepts I've got in mind (namely Cloble, Clorince, Clorincess, Dandecub, Dandeleo, and Kissedy).

Onto work. I think there's going to be some time for an edit. ^^

[EDIT]

I managed to find some time to take a look at Chrysil and resprite Pierrollon.

I've revised Chrysil's sprite, but it's not that big of an update, since the only changes where in simplifying the shading and fixing a few outline errors. It's a sprite that, as Scarf noted before, was one of the best I've made, even though it's a really simple concept.

Barely noticeable change, huh? xD

As for Pierrollon, I'm going to need some sort of push to how I should start. The current problem is that I really like how the pose turned out in the beginning, but I have to change it to make it more left-oriented. I still want to keep the folding of the legs though, so I'd appreciate it if someone would point out how I could rotate the body slightly while keeping the same pose for the legs, in order to keep the look of grace and flexibility. I've tried it do many times already, but I only end up with bulky, non proportionate, non slender legs.

Here's the current, in-need-of-editing sprite. I hope I didn't sound so confusing earlier as I'd really like some suggestions.

Help is appreciated! Also, checklist above was updated. =D

Neurotripsy May 21st, 2010 8:18 AM

Larpau is adorable, it's exactly the type I'd want to catch! <3
Great work with the rest, too!

The best advice I could probably offer is to use Roselia/Roserade as examples, since they are usually shown with their legs crossed while facing the correct direction.
