You're right! I can't believe I forgot about that, especially since I've got a Roselia in Ruby and Roserade in Platinum.
Thank you so much for the tip! ^^

Dots May 24th, 2010 6:27 AM

Update! ^^

I've re-sprited Pierrollon, and as noted before, fixed his orientation and size. I like the new version a lot because I've fixed its proportions and because it actually looks like an evolution. So without any further delay ...

I've also revised Weebull's sprite, and I'm really fond of it, so no edits are going to be made there. That means I'll be moving on to new concepts. Hooray! ^^
I'd like to hear suggestions on how to improve from you guys, so don't forget to leave feedback and constructive criticism.

Star-Shower May 24th, 2010 6:36 AM

Brilliant, just brilliant keep up the good work Dot.
I absolutely love the new Pierrollon

Oh Dots you know for a poses of Clorince and Clorincess, I would use Gardevoir and Galade as reference, as they am basically the same size

Thanks. ^^ I'm glad you like my work.

Hm ... I was actually thinking about something similar, but the main problem is that for poses, Clorince and Clorincess have a somewhat careless nature, as opposed to Gallade and Gardevoir's serious one. I'll probably be using them for size reference though.

Star-Shower May 27th, 2010 8:17 AM

You could always try Ludicolo's type of pose as it is the carefree pokemon

I can't imagine my clover princess in a pose similar to his. -.-

Esper May 27th, 2010 5:11 PM

You definitely improved the pose. That arm is still a bit funny with such a round curve. And since you darkened the wings the contrast between them and the arms has gone down and the arms don't stand out as much as they did before.

For the curved arm, it's part of the design. Pierrollon are supposed to have flexible limbs to make graceful movements easier for them.
And for the contrast bit, I don't get it, is it a good thing or a bad thing to have in a sprite? I actually liked Pierrollon more when I darkened it, so I don't know how to respond to this now.

Thanks for the criticism Scarf! ^^

~ Edit ~

So, I had some time, but I was too bored to sprite a new concept. The result of this boredom was a cute Larpau OW, and I'm pretty proud of how the end result looked. Beware though, I'm not so good at animating so any pointers about that would be appreciated. ^^

This guy is the first time I've ever made an over-world, and it was fun without taking a lot of time to make. Expect more of this the next time I'm bored. =D
All tips on how to improve it are welcome! ^^

Dots May 29th, 2010 5:43 AM

Still bored ...

As a result, another over-world has been born ... er ... made. This time it's Pierrollon, since I seem to like that one a lot.

http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt262/ChocotheBear/Pokemon%20Misc/PierrollonOW.gif
Pierrollon, the Rhythmic Pokémon
(Not for Public Use)

Man the designs on the wings were hard, but I like how the final version looks. Even though it's small, it doesn't lack any detail featured in the sprite, and I'm pretty pround of this achievement. ^^ I'm getting better at this every time I make something.
So you'll probably be seeing Chrysil the next time I'm bored. I might have the energy to sprite something new sometime later, so an edit to this post should be expected.
I'll probably be spriting Luvdisc's pre-evolution, since I don't feel I have the energy required to make something more complex. -.-

~ Edit ~

I'm finished with Luvid (Baby Luvdisc)!
There's one tiny problem though, and that's photobucket not showing up properly on the browser window. I would've loved to post the sprite with the pokedex information in order to receive criticism and feedback, but uploading issues have to come up now. So, hopefully, I'll be able to upload it tomorrow if the site is working by then. T^T

In the meantime, why not comment on the OW's I made? I'd like it if I get any comments about improving them.

~ The Next Day: Update ~

Guys, you let me down. No posts for a whole day? Two consecutive posts without any comment? That's cruel.

Enough whining now, I've got an update to show everyone since this time photobucket actually worked. Introducing Luvid, the most likely penultimate baby that's going to be featured in my region. ^^ This sprite is so simplistic, yet I find it so adorable and pokemon-ish.

An entry has been added to the ever-growing Pokédex!

~
LUVID are highly regarded as happy-go-lucky
POKÉMON
because of their often absentminded nature. They are
rarely troubled and as such, usually have the patience
to soothe other, unluckier POKÉMON.

***

Before any of you comment about this, I know it's not facing the bottom left corner, and the reason here is because I wanted to portray it's distracted nature, so please don't say that it's not proper or any of that talk.
On the sprite itself, I had a lot of fun doodling the original idea while I was supposed to be paying attention in Science class. It was even more enjoyable when I sprited it. I hope I receive positive comments on this one, although I wouldn't mind it if I receive criticism because feedback is my main motive.

Name Origin:

Luvid - (the 'Love/Luv' from Luvdisc and Cupid, could also be considered a play on the word 'Loved')

Concept Design:

As I mentioned above, it started life as a small heart on my Science Workbook. The heart then got lips where the dent was, eyes, and a visible cheek, which was followed by giving its more natural appearance. It also has a similar structure to an non-mature fish.

***

And that's it, I hope I receive criticism this time. ^^

MaikeruS May 30th, 2010 9:40 PM

Very cool! you are good at sprites! are you making a full fakedex? if you are, that would be sweet!

Yep, I am. ^^ Thanks for the compliment.

***

Although a small one, I happen to have an Update!

This time it's the Romance Incense, which I've spent a while working on to get the shape right yesterday. This incense is the only discovered method of inducing Luvdisc's eggs into hatching into Luvid, it's infantile stage.
The incense sports a candy pink color and a heart-shaped opening in the front, which reveals its light brown interior and may be used to place an item of choice (usually a small candle or the incense stick itself).

That the update for now, and I'd really like to receive feedback, especially tips on how to make the opening look like one. So, since I've got nothing more to state, I'll be adding this to the first post. ^^

I like it, but there's a drawback to it.

Smeargle's name origin comes from the words Smear and Beagle; similarly, Scrabbit's name comes from the words Scribble and Rabbit. This makes Scribbly, or any other variations of the name, fitting only for Scrabbit, and not Smeargle. Get what I mean? It's not that I don't like it or anything, in fact, I actually do like it, but it just doesn't fit the current case.

Thanks for the suggestion, and I'd like to hear more from you, so don't hesitate to post any other notions you may have. ^^

Anyways, it seems like Mr. Baby here is cursed to not find a suitable name. Any help from you guys would really really really be appreciated on this topic.

Star-Shower June 1st, 2010 7:55 AM

I thought of anohter name !!!
Pawstel- made from Paw and Pastel

PokemonSkySD June 1st, 2010 9:13 AM

hey, really like the sprites.

Your Smeargle alt evo is really good.
Also Luvid is a well designed sprite.

Heres are a few ideas for the Smeargle prevo name, Inku, Acriby, Skechi.
Inku - Ink
Acriby - Acrylics
Sketchi - Sketching.

Colbex June 1st, 2010 9:20 PM

Hmm, so I was thinking about that prevo again... and what about...
*dramatic pause*
Tulkid. o.o (as in tool kit/kid obviously)
Also because it's known for making supplies (which can be tools) Idk... its late and I think it sounds cute... >_>;

Since I finally received some really well-picked suggestions, I'll be commenting each and every one of them before announcing which one will be official. ^^

Star-Shower's Suggestion(s):

~ Pawstel -

I like how you played on the words in such a cute manner, and it sounds so colorful and soft. The only problem I have with it is that it's a little long and doesn't flow well when you say it out loud. -.-

PokemonSkySD's Suggestion(s):

~ Inku -

It sounds so small and fit for a baby pokemon. It also seems to go well with the evolutions' names, so I have to say that I like this one. ^^

~ Acriby -

Acrylics sounds so sweet and unprofessional the way you played on the word. It also has the word 'crib' fitted into it, which sounds appropriate for a baby pokemon. ^^

~ Sketchi -

Personally I like how you played on the word, and I love how it seems so fitting, but the problem is it sounds too hard for a baby pokemon. That and the fact that it doesn't sound so pokemon-ish. -.-

Colbex's Suggestion(s):

~ Tulkid -

Cute! I like how you used the provided description to come up with the name. There's one problem though, 'tool kit/kid' usually refers to mechanical tools rather than artistic ones, which seems to be more of a 'heavy' reference for a baby pokemon's name. -.-'

***

So the winning name is . . .

. . . Without further ado . . . Inku!

And the reason I've chosen this name is because it's simple and sweet. Also, it has the most connection with the evolutionary line, since Smeargle and Scrabbit both paint using inks given out by their bodies. With the formerly unnamed baby's case, the fact that he doesn't have the ability to excrete any color fluids causes him/her to resort to making those supplies - in other words, they make their own paints by whatever means possible, before rushing off to paint on any available surface. ^^

As promised, winner gets a custom sprite done, so congratulations PokemonSkySD! You can send me a request (as a PM) for one sprite whenever you wish to do so, and I promise I'll do my best to match it with the reference image. ^^
For all other people who suggested names, I deeply thank you for your efforts. I know it can't be helped but feeling a little disappointed. However, there is surely going to be more unnamed pokemon in the future, so no worries, you'll probably be getting the chance then. ^^

***

On further note, next in line to be sprited is either Cloble (the second evolution for my grass starter) or Merby (the water starter).

Star-Shower June 2nd, 2010 6:59 AM

I like that name to it's original :). I can't wait to see some more sprites. If you haven't got an idea for a fire starter how about mole or squirrel or dog. If you need any ideas or advice on anything Dots feel free to PM me as I have said before or contact me on Planetdev as i'm on there most of the time. Dots NO.1 FAN!!!!!

PokemonSkySD June 3rd, 2010 7:05 AM

thanks for the offer dot, i'll think about what it'll be.
And Inku and Scrabbit are my two favs out of yours so far, keep it up. ;)

Can't wait to see more coming up? Well, you're up for a surprise if you continue reading this post. ^^
As for the fire starter, I'm not going with an animal, at least, not for now. I've got an a clover for the grass starter and a mermaid/merman base for the water starter. I'm going to need a concept for the fire starter that complements both of the other ones, so any idea on that?

And thanks for the offer, I'll be sure to remember it. ^^

You're welcome, in fact, I should be the one thanking you for the name. ^^ And I'm happy for Inku and Scrabbit, since they seem to be the ones receiving most of the love.

As for the offer, it's completely up to you to send it as a PM whenever you feel like it. Just keep in mind that, as you can see from my works, I'm a spriter that prefers adorable pokemon, so sending me a concept I'll surely love would be motivating for me to work on. ^^

I'm really happy of how this turned out, especially the floral frills on it's arms and flower buds. Also, the more desaturated palette seemed to give it the mature, yet kind look I was going for here.
However, the shading on the buds really annoys me, and I keep feeling that something is off there, but I just can't put my finger on it, so any help regarding that is most appreciated guys. Criticism is what makes me better, so if you really want to see me improving, don't forget to include at least a little bit of feedback on the sprite. Okay? ^^

Personally, I'm really hoping this concept receives positive comments. ^^

PokemonSkySD June 4th, 2010 2:01 AM

like the new sprite, but the lower right bud needs the shading worked into..
still really good.

I PMed you about the sprite. Hope you like the idea.

NikNaks June 4th, 2010 2:15 AM

Whilst I think your technique is excellent, all of these sprites seem really samey, and consequently, for me at least, quite boring. They're all really sweet, happy little creatures, with round shapes and big eyes. I think you'd benefit from trying some more extravagant and darker designs. Even the fakémon listed as "Bug/Dark" still looks like a cute fairy, which is probably the idea - making it seem less sinister tricks the enemy - but I just think you could do so much more.

Anyway, keep up the good work! As I said, there's little wrong with your shading and line art, but I'd try something a little outside your comfort zone. Just my $0.02. :)

I know about the bud, since I've already mentioned that I'm going to need a few pointers to fix the shading. Thanks for the compliment though. ^^

Thanks for praising my technique, and for leaving feedback behind. ^^

Since the time I've gotten attached to the pokemon franchise, I've only been attracted to the pokemon that look cute or pretty. You can't believe how disappointed I was when my Totodile evolved into Croconaw while I was playing Crystal, and I guess that since then, I was imagining how a perfect region for me would look like. Sweet-looking, happy pokemon everywhere was how I wanted it, and now I'm back to thinking about it, reviving old concepts I had and revamping them while trying to create a region full of what I like.

I get what you mean though, and that is, I should include variety. Also, about Pierrollon, I kind of know that it doesn't look so evil/sinister as the dark typing implies, but I'm quite attached to that design now, and it'll be hard for me if I was to scratch that concept or the typing. However, I'll most likely be having a few evil stereotype pokemon in the dex so look out for them. As for the extravagant designs, you'll be seeing some of those in the enar future. ;D

I thank you again for the input, and I wold like to hear from you again. ^^

~ Edit: Sprite Update ~

I've updated Cloble's sprite and fixed the shading on the buds. I like it better now. ^^

And as you guys already know, I'd love to hear criticism, so give it your all when posting. xD

By the way, I was considering changing Chrysil's design to make him more cocoon-ish, since he now looks more like a pudgy worm. T^T What do you think guys? Should I, or should I keep him the same (if so, could you specify why)?

PokemonSkySD June 4th, 2010 12:56 PM

great improvement there.

About Chrysil, have a go with making a cacoon version, post it, and see what people think.
