wurmple evo question

On serebii.net's pokedex it says that evolution depends on gender and personality, and on pokemonpalace's pokedex it says it depends on the time of day (am/pm). Which one is correct?
I've got a beautifly(female, calm nature). I want to get a dustox as well(to complete the pokedex).

Serebii's is closer, as it is not based on the time of day. Technincally, official guides call the evolution of Wurmple: Random. Although nothing can really be random when it comes to Pokemon. Wurmple's evolution lies with in a range of numbers. To evolve into Cascoon, it must fall within a certain range, and likewise for Silcoon. No one knows the exact range, so it's near impossible to tell. But it is based on:

Gender Value, Personality/Nature Value, Individual Value and Trainer ID. Although the last one doesn't determine as much as the other three. As of yet, we do not know the exact numbers, but we do know that these are the main factors.

In short, it's random basically. ^_^

why not just catch cascoon

fowler November 3rd, 2004 12:53 PM

A few hrs after starting this thread(not having read the replys untill now) i caught wurmple, it evolved into cascoon then dustox(obviously). I gaught another one and that also evolved to cascoon.

Dear bug pokemon fan,
I have to agree with what pokemunna said. It is by far easier to just catch a low level cascoon (even though it only has harden.....wow step back Entei) and evolve it from there.

It's a lot easier to catch the cocoon forms than to catch Wurmple. Wurmple has a very complicated equation for it, which can be summed up as "random." However, for curiosity's sake, the chance of getting Beautifly and Silcoon is lesser than 1% higher than Dustox and Cascoon. Not much of a percent, but still Beautifly is so slightly more common. It's based on the calculation involving just personality value, but one value is enough to doom you. It's the same value that generates all those spinda spots on Spinda... A Pokemon's personality value is a 4byte value that determines a Pokémon's nature and gender.

Because Spinda spots and Wurmple's evolution is based on the same value, we can conclude that all the variation on Spinda spots is the same as the different amount of ways to get either Beautifly or Dustox. This number comes up ot the exact value of 4,294,967,295, so this means that there's approximately 2.14 billion ways to get either a Dustox, or Beautifly (the chance of getting Beautifly is just slightly higher by a few 100 ways or so, which is very little compare to 2.14 billion though).

So why bother trying to work out 2.14 billion ways to get a competitively worthless Pokemon? Let's just call it, "random."

Trainer's ID does not matter, or else Wurmple's evolution will be affected if it's ever traded.

yeah it is all based on luck.lucky for me i got them both first try.

KLS November 6th, 2004 7:28 AM

yeah it's basically random
if you want Beautifly but got Dustox, then you have to start over again
XD
it gets to be annoying

THIRTY-SIX November 6th, 2004 7:50 AM

if u want beautifly catch a silcoon and cascoon for dustox *geez*
u just want it for the pokedex so it doesnt matter bout if u evolve it from wurmple

mew_master November 19th, 2004 5:39 PM

i know one thing, it depends on the time of the day. but like a couple of people have said, it is so complex it can be called "random." when ruby/sapphire first came out i remember something about the evolution of wurmple on a pokemon cite, and it was like if the time added up to be and odd number it would turn into cascoon and vice versa(like if it was 3:33, it would be cascoon)

Mr Cat Dog November 20th, 2004 2:36 AM

Have you not read anything? We're just trying to prove that it CAN'T be determined by the time of day. That's why it is "random" in a sense. Anyways, the question's been answered, so there's no need for n00bie spam to blossom ^_^
