Solo Run Challenge V2

HG/SS Solo Run Challenge

What is it?

Basically this is a challenge for HGSS in which you try to beat the game using only one Pokemon throughout the whole game. You can choose whatever you like (but obviously using stuff like legendaries makes you significantly less cool ;P). Simply decide on a Pokemon you want to use, and post here saying you want to take up the challenge. Then whenever you want post here telling us how you are going with your challenge - what gyms you've beaten, any challenging points in the playthrough, etc.

The challenge is considered to be beaten when you beat Red and the Elite Four twice.

Rules!

Because restrictions tend to be required with this sort of thing. =P

  • You can only use your solo runner for the actual battling. Feel free if you want to use, say, low-level Pokemon for revive-purposes, but you can go without for a harder challenge in things like gym battles or the Elite Four.
  • HM slaves are allowed, and using lower-levelled Pokemon in the double battles only is also allowed.
  • You may use your starter until you get your solo-runner Pokemon in your team.
  • Any (legit) Pokemon can be used. If you are trading over a Pokemon though, trade over the egg form of it and hatch before using it early on (advisably before the 1st gym, 2nd absolute latest).
  • No hacking Pokemon - that's just taking away from the challenge. You CAN if you must... but it's not as cool.
  • Don't spam, please. If you have any questions ask away if it's not covered in this post.
  • It is advised to post with more detail than less - but the minimum needed is to mention what Pokemon you are starting with, nickname if any, whether you are evolving or not, and what version you are playing in your first post. Then just detail your adventures in later posts, mentioning what you've done, current level, etc. E.g.:
    Quote:

Hello. I'm going to go through with my Mareep, which I will only evolve into a Flaaffy. I'm using HG
    Quote:

After catching my Mareep south of Violet City, I ditched my starter and took on the Sprout Tower. Had a few longish battles against all of the Bellsprout, but by the top Mareep hit level 10 and learnt Thundershock, which made the rest easier with the HootHoots. After beating the Elder I went and heal and took on the gym. Thundershock made it pretty easy - Falkner's Pidgeotto was the only annoyance with Roost but eventually it got paralysed and the rest was easy.

Mareep is now on level 14, and knows Tackle/Growl/Thundershock/ThunderWave, and has nearly evolved already. =)
  • No double posting - either wait for someone else to post first or just edit your latest post instead with any new updates.
  • Have fun! Yes, this is a rule. =p

Note that if you were posting in the previous thread, just continue here from before.

Guess I'm a Challenger.

Playing Soulsilver. Good Luck to all others who try this. ^-^

Conor April 27th, 2010 12:21 AM

I'm going to carry on with my Gengar (:
I currently have 11 badges but I'm camping at the e4 until I can do it without using any potions etc.
I'm really enjoying my Gengar i've only lost one battle outside of the e4 and that was to my Rival in Goldenrod City :(
I traded over a Gastly egg as soon as Eyre gave me 5 pokeballs so I could catch a HootHoot and trade him over for my egg!
Never used my Totodile, not even once, well once..against my rival but I lost haha so I never gained any xp on him ;D
I don't carry HM slaves around with me, infact I only withdraw them when absolutely neccessary! Most the time, I walk as a oppose to flying for this reason.
I recently taught my Gengar, Psychic which meant I had to sacrifice Dream Eater, not sure if it was a good move but it's working out okay for now!
He's only level 70 but he has a specAtk of 240! Unfortunately I didn't bother messing about with natures so he's relaxed but oh well!
moveset is currently; hypnosis, shadow ball, psychic & thunder.
I need thunderbolt as thunder is just too unreliable!
That's all for now ;D

Raikt April 27th, 2010 1:27 AM

Hrm... I'm not allowed to use a starter or legendary, and I have to solo it? Heh.

Prepare for the carnage that Gruul, the Zubat, is about to unleash!

Ok. So, I just caught my Zubat, Gruul, and now I shall be starting my journey.

Pokemon: Zubat (It will evolve.)
Version: Heart Gold
Trainer Name: Raikt

Pokefanatic11 April 27th, 2010 2:11 AM

I'm Going to do it all with my Pichu Egg from my Platinum, Egg moves galore!

Conor April 27th, 2010 5:38 AM

Just beat misty, piece of cake ;D

I petty poor old brock, he aint got a chance xD

Just cleanin' up these trainers between fuscia and lavander then i'll pick up my expn card, probably try snorlax on for size in preparation for red and then poor old brock is in for the gengar treatment!

Can I evolve the HM Slaves?

You shouldn't even be battling with any other Pokemon. The rules state you have to solo the game with a Pokemon of your choice and as early as possible.

The Doctor April 27th, 2010 9:29 AM

I would continue my updates with Tekken but i cant since i had to cheat for my Riolu because i used an Emulator and thats not allowed,. B&B rule fail.

Ian Watkins April 27th, 2010 9:46 AM

I am going to do this challenge with Starly (which I will evolve), and I am using HG. =]

.тαмєя April 27th, 2010 10:33 AM

Pretty sure there's nothing about emulators not being allowed in the rules - they're prefectly fine to use for challenges. =/

If you mean hacked Pokemon though...well if you must, you can use them I suppose... =/ It is more about 'hacking perfect stats/illegal moves' that rule anyhow.

Ian Watkins April 27th, 2010 2:36 PM

Quite a bit has happened! I sweeper through the Sprout Tiwer without taking any damage, and there my Starly evolved into a Staravia!

Then I took on the gym. First two trainers were a piece of cake, but Falkner was a real joke. I timed how long it took me to beat him, and it only took 37 seconds! Pathetic, if you ask me.

Now for my 'team'.

Starburst the Staravia
Level 16
Modest (horrid nature xD)

Tackle
Wing Attack
Double Edge (gotta live accidental egg moves, eh? xD)
Quick Attack

i'm really enjoying this so far!

Azumin April 27th, 2010 4:13 PM

Little Update ^-^
~Went through the boring beginning stuff, Picked Totodile for an HM slave, caught a pidgey (Adamant nature. Sweet! ^-^) once I got pokeballs
~Grinded Pidgey to Lvl 13 then went to Bellsprout Tower and got Flash.
~After healing pidgey now lvl 16, I proceeded into the gym.
~Trainers were no problem, Beat both while only losing 9 HP
~Pidgey had no problem with Falkner, OHKO (crit) his lvl 9 pidgey and quick attacked his Pigeotto to death.
Thus earning me my first badge:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/4/4a/Zephyr_Badge.png

~Pidgey:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/5/5c/016.png
NN:Venus
Level:17
Moveset: Quick Attack, Gust, Sand-Attack, and Roost.
Onto Azalea Town!

Azalea Town was a joke :D
Easily beat both the Rockets and Bugsy.
~I did have to SR once, but only cause gust wasn't doing the full damage. (On Bugsy's Scyther)
~Once I SR, I quickly 2HKO'd his Scyther and OHKO's his Metapod and Kakuna.
Got the HiveBadge Yay:
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/0/08/Hive_Badge.png

After Azalea Town I went to Illex forest there I:
~Got Cut
~Helped a Kimono girl
Shortly after that I was at Goldenrod City, where I proceeded towards the gym:
~Easily OHKO'd the Gym Trainers with Quick Attack.
~Faced Whitney for first time however lost to Rollout and Milk Drink Abuse. >.>
~Second Time I used Featherdance to lower her attack and then Quick Attacked her several times to
receive my Plain Badge:

My Pokemon so far:
Pidgeotto: (Venus)

Time for an update, hyo.~

The Adventures of Gruul, the Zubat!

So, Gruul and It have been busy for the last two days. It was a fateful encounter, us meeting up in the cave. It almost seemed like destiny... The screen darkened, more so than it already was in the cave, and when he appeared, I just knew we were going to go far together. A toss of a ball; a click; and our adventure started.

It was, and still is, rocky going for the two of us. The trainers are tough, and the victories even tougher to come by, but we have persevered so far! Rattata and company are no problem for Gruul; nor are the pesky, flexible Bellsprout that we had to fight our way through. No one can stand before our might! Except for Pidgeotto... 'Tis sad indeed, but we lost our first fight against Falkner. His Pidgey was easy prey, but that Pidgeotto was indeed a worthy foe. Roost made it hard to scratch it's feathery hide, leading to a rush back to the Pokemon Center.

Still, we did not give up! That is for losers. No, we continued to fight and train. Eventually, we succeeded in winning. Pideotto was still a worthy foe, but could not stand up to our tactics. Victory was ours, along with the Zephyr Badge!

The TM Roost will come in handy later, giving Gruul a way to catch his breath during battle. Now we are on our way to take on Bugsy, the Bug Gym Leader. The path down from Violet City was almost child's play; Gruul single handedly proving a Zubat's worth to all the other trainers. Union Cave was another story... Gruul had no moves in which to scratch the armored hides of Geodude and Onix. Most of the fights relied on sheer luck via Supersonic and rock hard determination. For now, we are resting in a Pokemon Center. I've heard strange rumors of evil doers in a well nearby; I think we'll look into that, soon...

Haha, love it!

It isn't much to brag about, capturing that final badge in the Kanto region, the trainers certainly weren't all that.
However it's understandable, no one could ever prepare for my almighty Gengar ;D
I'll now be making my way back to indigo plateau for which is sure to be my hardest task yet!
I'm wondering how I will fare against my nemesis, Karen and I expect this is going to take a good few trys before I will be ready to head up Mt Silver and take on red whom I do not fear all that much (:
Wish me luck :P

Went and played Pokethelon and baught a few PP UPs, taught Gengar Focus Blast before hand.

Took a few trys but once I added Focus Blast to my arsenal Karen wasn't so tough ;D

Only real problem was lances Dragonite but I got lucky and critical hit it ;D

Then Altaria Perish Song'd me, had a perish song count of 1 and hadn't hit him yet 'cos I was paralyzed and he kept using double team and then as if by magic I hit a critical hit and finally won!

Almost done (: Just gotta go see ol' red (:

My Gengar is currently Level 89 with 739,673 Exp ;]

Xyrin April 28th, 2010 3:45 PM

I haven't started yet but I plan on using aimpom. I won't evolve. I have to beat my HG first though. And them trade my Amphardos to Silver to beat Red then trade my good pokes to gold and use SS. It might takes me 2 weeks. I have 100 hours on SS already.

I'm using Aipom named Joe and I might be evolving because of technician. My Characters name will be I dunno yet.

Conor April 28th, 2010 3:59 PM

So I was at Red and I was doin' well, had snorlax at about 3rd HP and I had 114 Hp left and I didn't want to risk using Focus Blast and missing so I used Psychic but it left him with about 1hp! Then Snorlax used crunch and I was gone.. but I wasn't 'cos for a change I had a HM slave with me, so I revived Gengar and came back swingin'
The hail finished snorlax off so I missed out on xp but I was so relieved to see that Charizard, thunderbolt! okay, next ;D
Finally out comes Venasaur, Gengar used Psychic...what! He's still alive!! Venusaur used sleep powder..ahhh! what to do hmm.. well he'll most likely full restore so i'll use one t.. oh great I don't have one.. fine i'll use awakening and pray (yn) Venusaur used sludge bomb.. 44hp hail hits.. 33hp Gengar Used Psychic... Vensaur fainted!!!!!!!!!! Red Payed out 16,105 ..... *credits*

woooooooooooooooooooo!

Short version: Beat red with Gengar level 89, and Hm Slave Gravelar whom was already asleep with 20hp 'cos I aint heeled him since I caught him xD
Used 1 revive ;D

Challenge completeee!

Raikt April 28th, 2010 10:05 PM

Update time.~

The Adventures of Gruul, The Zubat! Part deux.

It was a cold day after a long rest at the Pokemon Center; I could tell that Gruul wasn't feeling up his usual strength. It worried me that he might be sick, but a gentle bite on my ear told me that he wouldn't be kept down, and that his battling spirit was just as enduring as mine. I was glad to have such powerful and determined partner with me on my journey.

The rain began almost the moment I stepped out of the Pokemon Center. It was a veritable deluge of water, the downpour sending everyone in view scurrying to hide. We would not run from a little rain, however, and continued forward towards this well* where evil trainers were rumored to currently lurk. The overshadowed sky blocked out most of the light, giving the well a creepy aura of shadowy malice. A shiver ran down my spine, though was it foreboding or merely the cold?

I was pushed onward by my faithful partner. His incessant twitching on my shoulder meant that he was ready for battle today. I stroked the back of his neck, willing him to calm, and gave no thoughts to putting him back in his Pokeball.*

The trek down into the well was nearly as menacing as the scene above had been. Shadowy tongues licked along the well's edges, while the rain from above fell steadily in on our heads. It was at the bottom though, that my hear crept into my throat. There was the body of an old man, lying in a puddle of water. I ran over and knelt down beside him, checking his pulse. To my relief, he was still alive, but it looked like he had been hurt pretty badly. Picking him up gingerly*, I moved him into a sitting position against the wall and out of the rain. A wheezing breath was all I received during my efforts, though he coughed wretchedly once I had him positioned and mumbled a few discordant words. "Team... evil... rocket... slowpoke." His breathing shallowed after he finished, a sign that he had most likely fallen asleep. I nodded and made my way deeper into the well.*

The first trainer we came across was a lowly Rocket Grunt, who immediately challenged us to a battle. It was child's play to win, using a combination of Super Sonic and Astonish to pull out victory. The loss must have scarred him permanently, because he ran away crying in shame. The next few trainers followed the same pattern; none were overly tough, and usually fell to a few attacks on my part. Gruul definitely proved that, even though he was not a peak form, he could still dish out powerful hits. After the fourth battle, I let him rest, using a potion to heal his wounds and feeding him some berries for energy.

Our real challenge had yet to come, as I discovered, for when we made it to the back of the well, we met a Rocket Admin. His name was apparently Proton and he wanted to cut off Slowpoke tails and sell them as a delicacy to make a profit. Gruul screeched from my shoulder, his eyes telling of his fury at such a thing being done to his Pokemon brethren. I challenged Proton to a battle, and that was what I received! The fight started off easy, with a battle of Zubats. Gruul was more than a match for his, though, and took it down in two shots. Out came Koffing, however, and we could tell that its high defense would serve it well. A supersonic started things off, confusing the Koffing and causing it to hit itself in confusion. Followed up by a few rounds of Astonish. Lady luck was smiling on us in that dark, damp cave, however, as Koffing continued to hit itself in confusion. Eventually, it fell and Gruul came out unscratched. Proton, unable to accept his loss, ran from the cave while Gruul chased him out while screeching at his head.

So ended our time in Slowpoke Well; what will happen next? How is the old man fairing? Will we see more of this Team Rocket? Stay tuned to find out.~

*It was called Slowpoke Well by the locals.
*He's almost as annoyed as I am by him spending time in his ball.
*There were cuts and bruises all over his body; his bones felt brittle to the touch.
*Who the hell thought making a well this big was a good idea?

Time for another update, nyeh?

The Adventures of Gruul, the Zubat! Part trois.

http://www.arkeis.com/images/pokemonfactory/zubat.png

It was a long day; the day after the events at the well. Zubat and I, unfortunately, both caught a cold.* There was little to do but relax in the Pokemon center. I made sure he rested up for the upcoming Gym Battle. Luckily, the Old Man came around after we hauled him back to the Pokemon Center, and some of the towns Slowpoke began regrowing their tails. So, the venture wasn't completely wasted. Still, it would have been nice to get out...

... Getting out is just what we did once both of us were over our cold. In tune with our high spirits, it was a beautifully sunny day outside. A few clouds drifted lazily over head, casting fluffy shadows across the small town. Gruul and I make straight for the Gym, the light of battle burning within both of us as we were ready to prove ourselves.

Walking into the Gym, it felt as if we were transported straight into a forest. The entire gym was filled with trees, webbing, and was in stark contrast to the brilliant

The first few trainers went down with ease; they couldn't scratch Gruul while he danced around them, causing confusion. His powerful wings, though tiny, were able to faint the weaker trainers. Once we managed to find our way through the maze of webbing, however, the real fight began...

The fight started off brutal. Gruul used wing Attack and got in a solid hit, shredding off quite a bit of Scyther's vitality. Unlucky for us, however, he got off a focus energy. The following quick attack landed some serious damage on Zubat. Nearly OHKO'ing it. Gruul never gave up, though, and hit Scyther with another Wing Attack to put an end to it. I could have healed, I'm sure, but even had I wanted to, Gruul never would have let me. If he can't win on his strength alone, he doesn't consider it a win. We narrowly pulled off the victory against his remaining two Pokemon. Once it was over, though, we received the TM U-Turn and some money to help continue funding our journey. It was then back to the Pokemon Center to rest and heal up before we continued on our way into Ilex Forest...

Ilex forest could have been a problem had I not been with the my partner Gruul. The wild Pokemon were easy, providing almost no challenge at all. Making it a ways into the forest, though, we encountered another individual. He looked like he worked with fire; his dishevelled appearance, burnt smock, and slight covering of ash seemed to indicate charcoal maker from the previous town. It seemed that he had lost his Farfetch'd and needed helping finding them, as they were used to cut down trees.

Gruul wanted to push forward but I convinced him this would be in our benefit. Bregudingly, he set aside his battle fever and helped me in finding the Farfetch'd. They weren't too difficult to corner. In fact, it was pretty easy as they were scared and lost. Once they were both safely in our grasp, we took them back to the man who rewarded us with the Cut HM.

After that, it was almost a clear walk through the forest. We stopped off to teach Gruul Headbutt, to compliment his newfound Bite and Confuse Ray. Along the way, we came across a strange woman in a Kimono. She said she was a dancer and asked for help, which Gruul easily provided by flying over the trees and pointing the way out. She thanked us, departing, and we soon followed, putting Ilex Forest behind us.

*Meaning, I didn't do much the other day, so I didn't have anything to write via update.

Ian Watkins April 30th, 2010 4:21 AM

Well, time for an update. Considering I have done a few badges, I'll just post them!

Morty: Well, I beat him pretty easily, though his Gengar did put me to sleep. But then I forgot to save, so I had to do him again, but he was easier the second time!

Starburst evolved soon after this, and learnt Close Combat.

Chuck: he was EASY. Primeape died in one hit, Poliwrath took three, but I took no damage as the silly man kept spamming Focus PAWNCH.

Jasmine: the hardest for me, because of that dang Steelix. The magnemites died in one hit, but Steelix killed my after my defense was very low. After a Revive though, Starburst came out on top, and won me the battle.

Now I am in the Lake of Rage!

Starburst the Staraptor
Level 43

Fly
Aerial Ace
Close Combat
Double-Edge

Red Gyarados, here we come!

As I said, I am a bit busy with irl stuff at times and would be updating every so often rather than daily. =P At any rate, added, as is everyone else. (And congrats to Porygon Z for beating it too).

Well, depends by what you mean by that... If you mean start a new game to do a challenge with a new Pokemon after beating it to any sort of degree, yes.

I'll be taking this challenge with Rhyperior, but it will start out as a Rhyhorn.

ichuesther May 4th, 2010 5:59 PM

Okay, I started the game, my player name is Chu'e. Pronounced Chewy. Don't ask, lol.
I picked Cyndaquil as my starter and then got all the way to Violet city, and down to route 32 where I caught my Ekans!
Woohoo!
I caught it at level 4, and levelled it up to level 13 after the whole sprout tower thing.
Then I went to the gym and defeated Falkner :)
1 badge down, 7 more to go x)

AimayBee May 5th, 2010 6:13 AM

Did it!

Darn Oak and not letting me use my bike on a mountain in deep snow!
I come up behind Red and take a slow breath, and i tap him on his shoulder and he attacks without saying anything!
He sends out Pikachu and i send out Quake.
Pikachu uses Iron tail and gets me down half my HP, I use Rock Slide and pikachu is out!
Blastoise gets a quick hit in with focus blast and i'm on 3hp, one thunderbolt gets him down half his HP.
A quick full restore and flash cannon gets a direct hit.
Another focus blast and thunderbolt and Blastoise is out!
Lapras is out and uses Brine, Quake is out and my Hm slave Rocky the Onix comes into play.
One max revive and a blizzard and Rocky is gone.
A quick thunderbolt and Lapras is gone.
Venusaur appears and rock slide gets him down half HP [didn't see what he hit me with but it hurt...
Frenzy plant takes me out....
First try and i'm out... Congrats Red...

***

Pikachu down, blastoise down without even hitting me,Lapras gets a critical but Quake is still in but not for long.
Rocky back out and another max revive. Onix is out and Quake back in!
Paralyzed lapras and electricuted him to faint!
Venusaur is out and two rock slides murder him!
Snorlax is down a third by crunch i'm frozen and sandstorm puts snorlax down another 3rd HP, Rock slide, avoid blizzard and sandstorm finishes snorlax off.
Charizard hits with fire blitz and is taken down with rock slide!
And the credits roll in.

Good battle Red.

I would have posted this after my last post yesterday but i didn't want to double post, then the server got busy so i went to bed.
Finished around 9pm British summer time.
^^
Level 87 Tyranitar, Quake.

I alredy did.... Straight after beating Red... Then i beat them again 'cos i was bored then i traded all my pokemon over to my other game and have just started a new game on HG with a poliwag egg.

No i didn't catch any legendaries...

Would i be able to do the solo run again with my Poliwag, nicknamed Hyde.?

Blazenwing May 5th, 2010 12:56 PM

I would like to sign up for this challenge - I will be leveling through with a Krabby being sent in via Egg from my SoulSilver, and my Krabby will evolve. The challenge itself will be on my copy of HeartGold. ^_^

RedJoker25 May 5th, 2010 2:28 PM

Sign me and my Cyndaquil (only nicknamed to lowercase letters other than C) up for the challenge. At first I planned to evolve after Bugsy, but now I've decided to let him stay a Cyndaquil. This will all be done in HG.

Progress:
Beginning's pretty standard...Got Cyndaquil, went to Mr. Pokemon's house, blah, blah, blah. At Violet, we pretty much blew through Sprout Tower and the gym. Caught a Rattata to use for HMs, though he usually resides in the PC. Also picked up a Mareep for double battling purposes. Sadly for him, though, he just sits there. Near Union Cave, I got a Shell Bell for Cyndaquil to hold. Next up was Slowpoke Well and Bugsy, neither of which put up too much of a fight. After resting at the Center, we went and took on the rival. Opposing starter took a while, since I started by Smokescreening a few times. We then cut through Ilex Forest as fast as possible (pausing at the Kimono girl, who I refused to help, but Cyndaquil did anyway), which took us to Goldenrod, where I spent way too long messing around with Voltorb Flip. I finally managed to pull away, so that I could get the Radio Card and challenge Whitney. Took two tries to beat her. The first time, I had to quit the game because I had somewhere to go. Second time, I got lucky and she didn't use Miltank's Attract as soon as it came out, so I managed to Smokescreen a few times before Cyndaquil fell in love. Took a while, too, since Miltank kept Milk Drinking. Anyway, after that ordeal, the two of us got the SquirtBottle and headed north. Picked up the mail-Spearow at the gate.

Our next stop was the National Park, where Cyndaquil was my partner in the Bug Catching Contest. Couldn't really attack without knocking out the bugs, so I was stuck chucking balls at random Pokemon. Got lucky again and found a Beedrill, which took 10 balls, but I finally caught it. Said Beedrill beat out a Kakuna (3rd) and Weedle (2nd) for 1st and got me a Sun Stone. Backtracking a bit, I headed to the southern Park gate and headed for the Pokéathlon dome, where "my" Pokémon went through the Speed course twice. First try: Cyndaquil, Beedrill, and Spearow took third overall. Second try: Cyndaquil, Spearow, and Rattata took first overall, with Cyndaquil winning an individual award (can't remember which one.) Current Time: 8 hrs, 37 mins.

Current Team:
Cyndaquil (Male) w/Shell Bell
Timid/Capable of taking hits.
Lvl 31
HP: 76
ATK: 42
DEF: 42
Sp. ATK: 48
Sp. DEF: 38
Speed : 58
Swift
Flame Wheel
SmokeScreen
Lava Plume

Kenya/Spearow (Female) - To be delivered after Sudowoodo.
Rattata (Male) - HMs.

ichuesther May 5th, 2010 7:43 PM

So I got my second badge! Bugsy was fairly easy..I didn't have much trouble. I just lowered all of their defenses with Screech and then hit them with bite. Instant knock-out :D
Then I went on through Ilex Forest and then my Ekans evolved! It is now Arbok :)
My Togepi hatched also, but I ditched it at the Day Care.
I am now in Goldenrod City, but I stopped and saved and I'm resting now.
^-^ I'm going through slowly, but I'm so busy with homework and finals are coming up ><
I am currently at 5 hours into the game :}

Starr's Solo Run Challenge
http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/a/a4/Pin098.gifThe Krabby Khronicleshttp://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/a/a4/Pin098.gif

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a217/Blazenwing/StarrSoloRun.jpg

Chapter One: Sprout Tower and the Zephyr Badge
  • Started off from New Bark Town with a Chikorita in tow
  • Made my way to Mr. Pokemon, received the Pokemon Egg
  • Got a phone call from Professor Elm, someone stole a Pokemon!
  • In Cherrygrove City, got jumped by some red haired kid... had Elm's Cyndaquil, defeated him easily with Chikorita
  • Red haired kid's name was Alex, I think I'll be seeing him again...
  • Returned the Egg to Professor Elm, got some Poke Balls from Ethan, captured a Sentret
  • Headed back to Cherrygrove, met up with an old friend and traded him the Sentret for an Egg
  • Walked the Egg all over until it hatched into a female Krabby! I nicknamed her Cookie, because that seemed to be the only thing she could say! Knew some surprising moves I didn't expect - namely Slam and Brine - that should really help my journey!
  • Used Chikorita to get Cookie to the point where she could fight on her own against wild and trained Pokemon, then put Chipolata into the PC
  • Headed north for Violet City with just Cookie, defeating each trainer easily as we went
  • Entered Violet City and after hitting the Pokemon Center, hit Sprout Tower on the recommendation of the locals
  • Was worried that Cookie would struggle against the Grass type Bellsprouts, but she didn't, one shotting almost each one using Slam
  • Cleared Sprout Tower, healed up, then headed for Falkner's Gym
  • Defeated his two wards easily, but Falkner himself nearly defeated Cookie. Had to use two Potions, but Cookie was able to defeat Falkner's Pidgeotto and claim victory for us!
http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii127/sexytwigy/pokemon_badges-zephyrBadge.gif
ZEPHYR BADGE OBTAINED (1/8)
  • Healed up, then Cookie and I received the Egg from one of Elm's aides. Put the Egg in the PC - we're going this alone... until I need an HM! - and headed south towards Azalea Town
  • Handily defeated every trainer between Violet and Union Cave... Cookie's getting strong!
  • Union Cave itself also not a problem, Cookie's quickly out-leveling the competition and taking most everything down in one or two hits
  • Made it out of Union Cave... something's going down in Azalea Town... time to investigate!
Cookie's Stats - End of Ch. 1

Progress and annoyances: Headed over to Sudowoodo, where a few Flame Wheels and Lava Plumes allowed me to spend only a few balls catching it. Now that the way was cleared, I took a right and went past Violet to that sleepy dude who Kenya was to be delivered to. Saved in front of him to do some testing of what would happen should the mail be equipped to another Pokémon or not equipped at all. As it turns out, by giving the mail to someone else, you can keep Kenya while still getting TM44 Rest. This little tidbit irks me because while on this solo journey, I was also planning to only catch Male Pokemon (gender-specifics aside) as a side challenge that I've attempted since Platinum (where I failed (epically, might I add, because it turns out my starter was female and I didn't notice early enough) as well). As I've already collected a few badges, I refuse to start over, so I guess that she'll just be a thorn in my side until I forget that she's stuck in the PC. In any case, Cyndaquil and I are off to Ecruteak City to face my favorite Leader in Johto, Morty.

Time: 9:12
Team: Same as last time with a new Caterpie that I thought I was going to be losing from Kenya's mail.
Position: In front of TM44 Rest dude.

You need to have 15 posts in order to be able to put pictures in your posts.

ichuesther May 7th, 2010 11:09 PM

Got my Third Badge. Whitney wasn't difficult really, but it was a long battle. I lowered Miltank's defense and hit it :)

After that, I got my Fourth Badge. Morty was extremely easy, once I used Arbok's Crunch, instant KO.

I just got my Fifth Badge. Wasn't that hard. Chuck's Primeape took some time because I kept missing because Primeape kept using Double Team -_-
The only effective moves Arbok has are Sludge and Crunch and Crunch isn't very effective, so I used Screech to lower Poliwrath's defense and used Crunch twice, knocked it out.

Ian Watkins May 8th, 2010 1:54 AM

I'm giving up the run with Staraptor, bit I'll do a new one with Furret. =] Staraptor was too easy with his great stats. Will be starting soon. +]

I'm going to take that challenge on my Soul Silver version.
The pokemon I choose for the run is my Totodile.

RedJoker25 May 8th, 2010 10:48 AM

After getting sidetracked by a phone call from Elm wanting to see Togepi and obliging, we headed off to National Park, where a Weedle got me 3rd place. Figured we were there anyways, so I let Cyndaquil take on some more Pokeathlon courses, where he wound up with Stamina (Team: Sudowoodo/Sandshrew), Jump (Team: Beedrill/Nidoran F), and Skill (Team: Pidgey/Drowzee) medals.

Feeling like I'd wasted enough time, we headed next to Ecruteak, where we witnessed a TR grunt harassing a Kimono Girl. This entire scene was full of questionable comments (stomachache, then "I was supposed to be the hero"; "They'll make me start over as the lowest TR grunt", as if harassing a girl didn't make him low already; "Young people these days", who did the old lady think she was talking to? Not direct quotes, but same effect, really). Anyway, I got what I went for (HM Surf), so I left and headed for Bell Tower, which I still prefer to call Tin Tower. The man guarding the stairs wouldn't let me in without Fog Badge, so I was forced to leave. Next stop was the Gym, where another man forced me to leave because Morty wasn't there. Only spot left was Burned Tower, so Cyndaquil and I decided to pay a visit. Once there, we met Eusine and Morty, neither of which had anything particularly interesting to say.

Heading further into the Tower, we met up with (Rival) Kyle again, who challenged and then lost to us in a battle. Same strategy of SmokeScreen was employed, and it still seemed to work. It also helped that Cyndaquil was high enough of a level that Water Gun only did 12 damage. Past him, we went ahead and covered the rest of the upper floor before heading down to the lower floor where the Beasts resided. They saw us and ran off, causing Eusine to become comfortable with heading down as well. After a few more words, he let us go on our way, and since I didn't have HM Strength yet, I went back to the PokeCenter to heal before taking on the Gym. Went in and quickly breezed through Morty's lackies, slowly finding our way over to Morty. Halfway through, I talked to Cyndaquil, who apparently thought I had disappeared. In any case, we got up to Morty, who was easy enough. Battle highlights included Gengar's use of Mean Look on Cyndaquil, which allowed me to take him out without sustaining damage or any bad effect since Cyndaquil was my only party member anyway, and his use of 3 Super/Hyper potions on his last Haunter, which only prolonged the inevitable. This earned me the Fog Badge, which I then took to the man in Tin/Bell Tower just to see how far in I was allowed. There was another guy in the actual Tower that wouldn't let me up without Rainbow Wing, so I went ahead and headed back to the PokeCenter.

Afterwards, I backtracked some more to take part in the Bug Catching Contest again, where I won an Everstone with a Kakuna, meaning that I had placed three times: Beedrill (1st on Tuesday), Weedle (3rd on Thursday), and Kakuna (2nd on Saturday). Ironic, right? Anyways, I headed back to Ecruteak after this, where I saved in the PokeCenter.

Current Position: Ecruteak Pokemon Center
Current Time : 12:04
Current Team : Cyndaquil w/ Shell Bell Lvl. 37

Ponyo May 9th, 2010 6:40 AM

Vols and I beat Morty, Chuck, Jasmine, and Pryce, leaving us with one Johto badge to go.
Morty, Chuck, and Pryce were easy, Jasmine's Steelix was a pain, but signal beam saved us.

i added two HM slaves to my cyndaquil, a Krabby for surfing and a Pidgey for flying.

polkop May 10th, 2010 1:59 PM

So, there is my first update.
- I choose Totodile as my first pokemon
- I beat the Sprout Tower

- I beat the Team rocket in the Slowpoke Well

My Totodile:

Totodile - Lv 22
- Flail

ichuesther May 10th, 2010 3:19 PM

OKAY, got my sixth and seventh badge.
Currently in Blackthorn city. I really didn't pick up any items in the Ice Path..I was too lazy.
But it's fine, I'll go back later when I'm done with the game..or not at all.
Ready to defeat Clair.
Will train at that area of trainers south of Blackthorn city, though I reckon i don't need it. (and i'm lazy)
Arbok is currently level 53. I've concluded that the solo run is wayyy easier than a normal game..so far.
Did I mention that Arbok has shed skin instead of intimidate. I just noticed that, I was thinking that I thought arbok/ekans usually had intimidate but apparently shed skin too.
I'm glad this one has shed skin.. I don't spend much money for status healers.
Anyway, Pokemon League...Red..Here I come.

Chapter Two: Ilex Forest and the Hive Badge
  • Met Kurt, who immediately ditched me to go after Team Rocket at the Slowpoke Well (How rude!)
  • Followed Kurt into the well, found him injured, headed further into the well and defeated the Team Rocket presence there
  • Back at Kurt's place, he thanked me and offered to create Poke Balls for me from Apricorns I find
  • Leaving Kurt's house, got a call from an old friend from the Hoenn region
  • Told me he'd heard about my quest and wanted to help me, and he had two Eggs for me to help me get around Johto
  • Met in the Union Room, traded him Chikorita and the Egg from Professor Elm for the two Eggs, which hatched into Tropius and Wailmer!
  • The letter attached to the Eggs read "Use Tropius for Cut, Rock Smash, Strength and Fly... use Wailmer for Surf, Whirlpool and Waterfall!"
  • Entered Bugsy's Gym, defeated all of his understudies one by one
  • Finally reached Bugsy - Cookie struggled again, this time against Scyther, and nearly was KO'ed by a U-Turn, but with Super Potions in tow, Cookie held on and defeated Bugsy's team to win us the Hive Badge!
http://www.crystal-islands.com/anime/characters/main/badges/hivebadge.png
HIVE BADGE OBTAINED (2/8)
  • Headed out of Azalea Town towards Ilex Forest when Alex, my rival, jumped me and challenged me to a fight
  • Cookie had a tough fight against Alex; his Gastly used Curse and nearly defeated Cookie just with the damage from that
  • A lot of potions were used, but Cookie prevailed - barely!
  • With Alex gone, we headed deep into Ilex Forest where the charcoal maker's apprentice asked me to help him find his boss' two lost Farfetch'd
  • Found the two Pokemon and caught them without any problem, obtained HM01 Cut for my trouble - taught it to Tropius and cut down the tree blocking our path to get through the rest of Ilex Forest
  • After making it out of the Forest and defeating a couple more trainers along the path - including a close call with one trainer's Mareep! - we finally reached the gates of Goldenrod City... next stop, our third badge!
  • Is it just me, or is Cookie getting bigger...?

Started again and am going it slowly!! Chilling and may do this challenge again in the future.

Geodude Solo Run Part One

Decided to change from my Magnemite run as it seems like this solo run would be a little too easy plus I had Magnemite as my main on my first run through and he effectively fought most of the battles himself. Was initially going to obtain a Poliwag from the Pokewalker for my challenge. However after spending 300w on my pokewalker and not encountering one I decided to try a real Challenge and use a Geodude (Not Evolving)

  • So after a relaxing morning of watching the TV I decide I better leave my room. Its no fun living in a small area surrounded by grass which I cannot enter. Now if only I could afford a Lawnmower.... Then again am I old enough to use one?
  • Anyways "Mother" tells me I have to do an errand for the Professor. Looks like I have to go meet Mr. Pokemon. So I choose the grass type pokemon (Knowing my Rival will choose Fire which is something Geodude can laugh at).
  • I return to see my mother who gives me my pokegear (Which I have never seen before??)
  • Get Some Running shoes of some speedy old man. Now I go twice as fast :D
  • Finally get to Mr Pokemons house and recieve the egg and pokedex after being harrassed by some guy and his Apricorns.
  • Encounter the redhaired boy on the way to the Lab after a strange phonecall from the Prof. His trainer card said his name was "Graham"
  • Finally got access to pokeballs after being shown by Lyra... Yeah like I didn't know already..
Currently catching Geodudes to get a good nature and an Everstone so he won't Evolve. I Will update/edit in first Gym Asap. Apologies for the three changes today

Just a little tip, if you don't want the pokemon to evolve just press B when the evolving starts.

That will leave you to be able to give Geodude the item that ups rock or groud attacks... Or leftovers... Always a good thing to give a pokemon... Especially one with high defense and low HP...

Sullster May 12th, 2010 6:52 AM

Thanks for the advice A. Although I was enjoying my Geodude Walkthrough(Was suprised at how he owned almost everything) I kept getting this niggling feeling that I still wanted to do my Poliwag run and in the end I gave in. I have to unlock the route again this time I'll catch that Poliwag!!

I will update tomorrow sometime after I have done the first 2 gyms. Looking at Poliwags starting moves this could be a laugh.

Also could anyone suggest a good HM Slave to catch early on?

Quick Update:

Beat Clair and caught Lugia. But wtf the dragon person old man person won't give me the dratini with Extremespeed o.O Oh well. I'm currently at Victory Road.
As you can see, I am pregressing very slowly, but I haven't had much time lately. I was playing last night but then saved and turned the game off because I was too lazy to go through Victory Road :@

UPDATE 2:

Beat the Elite Four.
Was VERY easy, like no joke. Arbok whooped Will's a** with Crunch. Koga's pokemon weren't that difficult, just used Screech to lower defense and then hit them. Bruno's pokemon were...easy. [Insert 4th leader because I forgot here name -_-] was fairly easy. Now LANCE.
Lance, lance, lance, lance, lance. Let's just say Ice Fang did all the work :]

Won with:
Arbok level 66
-Gunk Shot
-Screech
-Ice Fang
-Crunch

After that, boarded the ship to Vermillion and beat Lt. Surge.

Melvern May 12th, 2010 8:25 PM

Hello. I'm going to go through with my Jolty(Pichu) from my PLatinum, which I will only evolve into a Raichu(Probably). I'm using SS and will start today ^^

I'm aloud to transfer unobtainable pokemon from another game right? I'll trade off my starter for a Squirtle that will eventually become a Blastoise. I'm playing soulsilver.

polkop May 13th, 2010 2:42 PM

Update no my Soul Silver solo run:

- I pass the forest
- I make evovle my Totodile in Croconaw
- I get my third badge

Team:
Croconaw - Lv 30
- Slash
- Crunch
- Water Gun
- Ice Fang

RedJoker25 May 13th, 2010 4:31 PM

Since the last update, all I've done really is get the 5th/6th badges, as well as the Red/Shiny Gyarados, Eevee, the first task of the Safari Zone, and another Sun Stone with a Beedrill in the Bug-Catching Contest. In addition, I spent a couple of days getting Apricorns and Voltorb Flip coins for a Dratini. Gotta admit, though, Voltorb Flip is a pain since it doesn't save progress. I made it up to level 7 once so I had to keep going till it dropped me down to 1. My newest save is in front of the shop in Mahogany, though I'm too lazy to get Cyndaquil's current stats. Just know that the team is still the same as last time, except Cyndaquil's gone up a few levels since.

Transcendent May 14th, 2010 7:50 AM

I would probably try this with the Shiny Gyarados from Lake of Rage that I fully EV trained.

However, I don't really want to restart my game :(
Is beating the re-run sufficient? XD

ichuesther May 15th, 2010 2:52 PM

Oh yeah, did i mention that my Lugia got Pokerus??
I've never used it to battle, ever.
So right when i came out of victory road, i went into the indigo plateau and healed my pokemon.
i wasnt payign any attention to my ds but then i saw the word pokemon virus or something.
o.o
wtf.
and then it spread to my party.

polkop May 15th, 2010 4:40 PM

Update on my solo run:
- Croconaw evolved into Feraligatr
- I find the legend dog in the Burn Tower
- I get my fourth badge
- I get my fifth badge
- The safari is open
- I healed the Ampharos in the Lighthouse

Hmm. This looks like fun. :] I'm gonna play through with a steelix. Starting as an onix that I'll transfer over from my pearl version. I'll just give it the metal coat, trade it over, and voila, my steelix with which i can kick everyone's butt's with.

RedJoker25 May 20th, 2010 7:50 PM

Finished the Mahogany Rockets arc, catching a Voltorb and two Electrodes in the process. Then went and took on Pryce: badge 7 is mine. Took a while since I forgot Dewgong was part Ice (because Seel was pure Water) and I was attempting to Swift it to death. Just finished doing yet another Bug Catching Contest, this time placing 3rd with a Beedrill (a Caterpie and Venonat took 2nd and 1st, respectively). Somewhen before, though, I did the second Safari Zone task and gained the title of owner (why should an owner pay?). Also got the final Pokéathlon medal for Cyndaquil: the Power Medal (Team: Red Gyarados/Seaking).

IN the beginning i had hatched him grinded him to lvl 5 and then went on my journey I easily beat the gyms except for the fact that gible stopped listening to me so I there was a tiny bit of annoyance. Then after I quickly breezed through every gym and finally got to red. So I grinded my newly made garchomp to lvl 100 hundred on the elite four since he could take them down super easily and then finally i went to beat him and it was amazing i used outrage and it destoryed his pokemon and earthquake on his pikachu so i finished
