Paper Mario Series

Almost every Nintendo fan knows (and has played) at least one of the popular Paper Mario games, which are full of vivid-colored environments, interesting and cool characters, entertaining and long histories, lots (and I mean lots) of replay value, and good gameplay. Here's a list of every Paper Mario:

Paper Mario
The first Paper Mario. A classic, pretty good game too. It was released on N64 and later re-released on the Virtual Console for Wii. Got a score of 9 on IGN.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
The sequel to Paper Mario. It was released on GC only. My favorite, also. The highest Paper Mario rated by IGN, with a score of 9.1

Super Paper Mario
The newest Paper Mario. It was released on Wii. IMO the best story, but bad partners and characters. Hardly recieved by some fans because it erased the turn-based theater style and made it more Mario Bros like. It was originally thought to be released on GC, later both a GC and Wii, and finally on 2007 it was defined as Wii-exclusive. Got a score of 8.9 in IGN

Well, now some questions:
- What's your favorite Paper Mario game?
- What's your least favorite Paper Mario game?
- Would you like to see a new Paper Mario game?
- Do you prefer the based combat style (PM1 & 2) return or do you like the style from Super Paper Mario?

Now, my favorite would be TTYD because it had great story and the best partners, charming characters, the best soundtrack from Mario games and much more things.
My least favorite would be SPM because it erased the turn-based style that I loved D: Although it had a really good story and great music.
I would love a new Paper Mario, but I'd like the turn-based style to return and I'd also like it to be an exclusive for Wii's successor.
I prefer by much the battle style from PM1 & 2, why would we like more of the same on a spin-off the mario series?

Ok people and fans, post! : D

It was so hard to choose between Paper Mario and Thousand Year Door. I love them both! I went with thousand year though. Like the OP said it has the best characters and partners and stuff, it was a great game. I've never played Mario RPG and I didn't like Super Paper Mario much at all.

I loved the original Paper Mario. I remember playing it when I was younger & just loving it so much. (: I played The Thousand Year Door as well, but I didn't like that as much. It just felt more difficult than the original. I have yet to play Super Paper Mario, but I'm looking into purchasing it.

Although SPM introduced one of my favorite characters, guess who, I like Thousand Year Door the best. It seems to have the best plot out of the three, and it feels a bit better then PM1. SMRPG is good, but PM1 and PM: TTYD are far better, due to the smoother gameplay, in my opinion.

And the game (TTYD), overall, is easier then PM1. But the Final Boss is really hard in comparison. I just love that.

Ah, Super Mario RPG was amaaazing. What game could let you play with Bowser AND have Birdo in it? ♥

Paper Mario is my favourite, mainly because of Bow. ♥ Best partner ever. And the music was sooo good.
I tried Thousand Year Door and I didn't like it. I got Super Paper Mario and it bored me, so I sold it back to EB games for like $12.

I don't really want to see a new one. I wasn't impressed with the later two. Don't ruin a good thing!

My vote is for Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I love this game.

Åzurε May 10th, 2010 7:15 AM

I only played Thousand Year Door, but it was one of the few games I went and played again after beating it. Tournament chapter for the win!

It's true Seven Stars isn't Paper Mario, but it was probably what started it all. Looks like fun, but I can't play it, can't find teh romz.

El Héroe Oscuro May 10th, 2010 11:47 AM

Nothing beats the original game, Paper Mario on the N64 is in the words of Andy Samberg "like a boss".

lx_theo May 10th, 2010 12:30 PM

I love Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, but TYD gets my vote because of the floating coliseum being the best part of either game easily. I haven't played the first, and hated the latest.

Jolene May 10th, 2010 12:50 PM

I think all of them are good but I like The Thousand Year Door the best because I like how Mario can turn into a paper plane and a boat. I really like Super Paper Mario as well but I think the story was too dark and serious.

Lol
Mario rpg atss is aweosme

countryemo May 10th, 2010 1:33 PM

I liked TTYD the best.
I remembered playing PM1 at a hotel, but only like 2mins, so :(
SPM i did not like so much. It was just a lil boring. (didnt like story either.)

If Mario RPG is part of the Paper Mario series (which it isn't), then so is the Mario & Luigi series.

Of all the Mario RPGs I've played, I love the original Paper Mario the most. Great gameplay. Wonderful expansion of the Mario universe. Fantastic music. Charming and polished feel overall.

I know it isn't part of the Paper Mario series, I just put it here because its it predecessor; but because many of you think that, I'll put it off here. However;

I don't get how the Mario & Luigi series is related here. The Mario RPG is just the predecessor of both, but those are the other way.

Well, who's your favorite partner?

Mine's Yoshi; it's one of the best characacters in TTYD, he's innocent, charismatic and funny! Also, the fact that you can get it in any color you want is great:

I got it Pink last time I played and named it Lupy. xD

I LOL'd at the poll. No one has voted for Super Paper Mario xD
Guess Intelligent Systems messed it up there.

Super Paper Mario screwed up the gameplay. Story was great though =3

~GodricGryffindor9~ May 11th, 2010 6:40 PM

I LOVED Paper mario. Paper mario TTYD was good but not as much as the original. Super paper mario.... Is just not that Super. It took out all the elements I liked so I had trouble enjoying the ones that were there.

EmeraldSerenade May 11th, 2010 7:38 PM

TTYD was AMAZING ._.
I replayed the game so many times, it not even funny.
I gave SPM a try, but the simpleness of the game just didn't cut it for me :-/

I love the characters in TTYD.
And yes, the last boss was quite a challenge -.-
My fav. partner would have to be Vivian.

Sneeze May 12th, 2010 7:28 AM

TTYD is one of the best, if not the best GC games imo (granted that's not saying alot...) but I must have completed it like 6 times, loved it.

The original is good, very good but TTYD was better imo.

Super is... a butchery, I hated it. ._. Just got rid of pretty much everything that made the series good.

- What's your favorite Paper Mario game?
Paper Mario. I just loved it. More than just the storyline and the characters (which were awesome) I finally felt like I got an idea of what the Mushroom Kingdom was normally like. Especially in Toad Town where almost none of the toads were freaking about the castle being stolen. It just brought some subtle humor to it.

- What's your least favorite Paper Mario game?
Super Paper Mario. For the same reasons as above

- Would you like to see a new Paper Mario game?
A return to the Paper Mario 1 format. And make Toad Town the HUB again.

- Do you prefer the based combat style (PM1 & 2) return or do you like the style from Super Paper Mario?
Paper Mario 1's system. It was really simple and easy to use.

I Laugh at your Misfortune! May 12th, 2010 8:48 AM

Having only played SPM, I can't offer a valid opinion, but I thought it was a pretty great game on its own merits.

Muaha, Did you ever gather up the patience to fight your way down to Bonetail? That was just epic. Retuuuuuurn Postage!

My favorite partner was... I don't know. Koops or the Yoshi. Yoshi was awesome with his hit-you-six-times-in-a-row attacks. Ms. Mowz was fun to use, too.

Harmonie May 12th, 2010 9:34 PM

I haven't played Super Paper Mario.

But between the other two, I have to say the first. However, it must be noted that TTYD was a great sequel, and really the original probably wins mainly because it's nostalgic. lol

Although I would love a new Paper Mario in the style of the first, I no longer have much faith in Nintendo making good sequels. So lets just leave it be unless Nintendo gets back into their game.

Tanooki May 13th, 2010 12:28 AM

Is Mario RPG really considered part of the Paper Mario series?

...anyways, favorite is TTYD, least favorite is SPM. Although, I have to say, SPM had a lot of great jokes and dialogue in it. It was a really funny game. It's just the gameplay itself really lacked what it's predecessors brought to the table.

TTYD was/is perfect. Still play it every now and again. Lot of fun, especially Chapter 3 (Glitzville).

Sneeze May 13th, 2010 4:08 AM

I've done the pit a few times on TTYD, I remember though the first time I tried it I died on floor 97 or something D: Bonetail is pretty easy imo, it's just getting past all them elite wizzards and amazee daisies which is hard. Shame there's no real use for the badge after you've beat him cause everyone is dead.

Rokusasu May 13th, 2010 12:15 PM

Paper Mario was amazing: I used to rent it out every weekend until the N64 went bye-bye. I still remember bugging my mum to let me stay up 'til 10pm so I could complete various chapters, so I have a lot of nostalgia for that game.

Paper Mario 2 was also amazing. It, imo, improved on everything without taking away the charm that was in the first one, and the final boss was definitely not something to go down easily.

Super Paper Mario... Eh... I did enjoy the Francis level immensely, and the first dungeon was fun, but this was where I felt the series took a step backwards. The plot was good, and I liked being able to use four different characters but the whole platforming thing was so... Meh. >: And most of the companions lacked personalities, something I'd enjoyed in the first two games.
