What do you think of HG/SS?
What do you think of heart gold and soul silver? Did you buy it and think it was good, did you buy it and think it was no fun, or did you just buy it for the pokewalker?
I thought it was no fun. |
Ever since Leaf Green and Fire Red came out, I've been praying to the Pokemon Gods for a Silver/Gold remake. And finally, I was rewarded for my patience.
Gen II was always my favourite, and when they finally announced the remakes I was overjoyed. After playing through Heartgold, and starting Soulsilver, I'm really loving all the updated gameplay mechanics and whatnot. They are definitely, without a doubt, my favourite pokemon games so far. |
Both worthy additions to the series. I loved Gold years ago and was desperate for a remake, even more so after my original catridge died. HeartGold was the main reason I started using the DS and I haven't looked back since. HeartGold/SoulSilver is what Gold/Silver/Crystal could've been, had it been possible, as much as I love the originals.
i had gold version when it first came out and then now years later after i completely forgot about pokemon i heard heart gold was coming out.. i had to have it lol, i went out bought a ds, bought HG, and then once i got it, all my friends that i didnt know were even into pokemon in college all got ds and pokemon also.
i mean comparing to gold version, HG is AMAZING. so i love it |
I loved playing SS, but it's starting to lose it's luster to me.
There's no better way to describe it other than.....Amazing .
I like Soul Silver. I don't think it's the best one I've played, but it's also not the worst. I might have a different opinion if I remembered anything about the original Gold and Silver, but that was about 10 years ago. With the bulk of the storyline out of the way I'm running out of things to do or reasons to keep playing, which is why I'm still so invested in Platinum and Pearl.
Better than I expected it to be; then again, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. Before HG, the last Pokemon game I bought was Crystal :x never bothered with the later generations until now.
I like it. I just wished they changed the calling for rematch thing. I really liked the Vs Seeker and wished they had put it in SS/HG.
I think both Hg and Ss are good in their own ways. Some things, like the pc system, blow and should be changed. They say that their taking advantage of the touch screen, but maybe dialouge and the pc system should be there. besides that, everything else is great. they really did a good job with the soundtracks. the game corner lack of slot machines doesnt bother me because i never go to the game corner but overall, Heart gold gets a 4.4 out of 5 and Soul silver a 4.3 out of 5 (im biased like that).
BEST GAME EVER!
im glad they got rid of the VS seeker, it made trainin even harder, lengthenin the gameplay i also love the updates, the safari zone, and EVERYTHING its extrordianary G/S/C were my favorites, but now HG/SS are my favorites!!!! im a johto fan til the end ppl :3 |
It's a dream come true. Ever since Fire Red and Leaf Green i've been dreaming and wanting a remake of G/S/C. Everything about it has met and exceded my expectations.
Well done Gamefreak, Well done. |
It had great potential, but overall it definitely wasn't perfect. I'd give it a 7/10. The levels are STILL too low, the VS Seeker has been downgraded back to the out-of-date phone, Johto is STILL infested with way too many Kanto Pokemon, Johto Pokemon are STILL poorly showcased, and the Gym Leaders are STILL too easy, and Lance STILL has a hax Dragonite. And overall, it seems that they were too afraid to improve from the originals to bring it up to standards with Pokemon Platinum, which is a shame, considering GameFreak said themselves that they wanted new comers to think of it as a new game. Notice how the Hoenn and Sinnoh dex doesn't disclude random evolutions of Pokemon, it's as if they're saying that the Johto dex doesn't deserve to have Pokemon like Magmortar or Gliscor, even though Magmar and Gligar are included, and the Sinnoh dex includes ALL evolutions of every Pokemon.
What I mean by potential, I like how they established that there actually is a Johto Dex (but it has way too many Kanto Pokemon), and I like how they actually made an effort to improve the levels in Kanto. It never made sense how all of the Kanto Gym Leaders in G/S/C were weaker than Lance (except Blue), but I'm glad they made them stronger than Lance this time. Overall, I like Platinum better. Go ahead and flame me, HG/SS lovers. |
this game was definitely worth buying
it was at least for me because i think that the genII games were the best |
i love this game. they took the best game in the series and made it better
"I can't say that the remakes were better than the orginal generation II games but it was still nice to see the games revamped." "It certainly brought alot of people out of retirement for sure and generation II has always been like the most popular generation." :)
My first EVER Pokemon Game was Gold. I have loved gold for a long time. And when I heard about the remakes I flipped. The great thing about these games in particular is that it isn't good because of the battles, it's good because of the memories. They have managed to create something that makes us feel the nostalgic beauty of these games from the past, but they have also managed an entirely new game. This is much better than Fire Red and Leaf Green will ever be! And perhaps the best thing is the interactivity of you and your Pokemon. I've always been upset that Pokemon would always just sit in your inventory, you couldn't bond with them. But now that is no more. Not only can you walk with your Pokemon in the game, you can walk with them with the Pokewalker too! These versions are perhaps the best in the series (Being surpassed only by their originals).
These games show that the Pokemon games-like Pokemon-are constantly evolving! |
My first pokemon game was silver I had a great deal of nostalgia for it but Soul silver kinda fell flat for me all the leaders and the E4 were severely under leveled I was also spoiled on Platinum what with the Vs.Seeker and whatnot being able to train when I felt like it instead of when they wanted to although I do like it when they give me stuff after I own them, In my opinion I like Platinum more at the moment but I just got to Kanto in SS so I am hoping for it to pick up a bit and maybe grab my attention a little more So in short Soul Silver kinda let me down Now I hope for a great R/S remake since it should be able to trade with Black/White and D/P/PT and SS/HG so figures crossed.
I spent many hours on Gold and this i had to get to relive the memorys!
I started on Red and blue... and have been playing ever since. Gold was my favorite game, GenII was absolutely awesome. I played GenIII and loved it too, remakes of Red and Green were epic, and when i seen them I said to myself "ok now they have to remake Gold and Silver" and have been praying ever since. When GenIV came out, i loved how it looked, it was awesome, and i had fun playing it time and time again, but i was still yearning for the remakes, then i heard about HeartGold and SoulSilver from a friend, and i literally jumped out of my seat. And i bought HG the day it came out.
Ive been playing it since, and i only got three word to describe it. Best. Game. Ever. |
pokemon heart gold and soul silver were amazing
Like many have said, I also believe the original Gold and Silver are were the best pokemon games to have come out. These new versions of course have improved from what was already there. It has been very fun playing through the story again, but with the new quirks, as well as all the nostalgia moments it's bringing from a decade ago. The only thing I find unpleasant is perhaps no more Vs Seeker from the previous Gen IV games and also the renaming of several things from the originals. Certainly more positive than negative and well worth the wait for the remakes of the best pokemon games.
Like many others, Gen II was my absolute favourite... After my Game Boy Color started turning off by itself while playing -_-, I waited for quite a long time for a remake. HG/SS is an excellent remake of the GSC games and they definitely bring back the nostalgic feeling from playing Crystal. :3
I think it is a beautiful game and I love it with all my heart. G/S/C were always my favorites and are amazing games, and these just add on to the fun. But I was a little disappointed in one thing though. I figured that everything in the previous games would be added on in this one. I was a bit disappointed in the fact that I didn't have a VS. Seeker and it's a bit impossible to train. But that's my only complaint.
they are great games, but they dont really have the same feel of the original games. i like the menu on the bottom screen tough
I think Game Freak FINALLY got it right with HGSS. Fully integrating the touch screen, the ability to have EVERY Pokemon walk with you, and the Pokewalker easily make this game the best on the DS. If they would have carried over the Secret Bases in Emerald it would be the greatest game ever. Emerald still rules with the ability to create multiple Secret Bases full of Lv100 Chansey with no offensive moves. Nothing comes close to legitmately leveling up your Pokemon than that.
okay how are there lvl 7 Beedrill that doesn't happen how about level 8 Noctowl not possible but there are like 10 pokemon that can be caught in the wild at Level that would be impossible on Platinum there was only one that I know of and that was the Golbats in Mt.Cornet but you had a very low percentage to see one of those and what about lances dragonite lv 50 first that is impossible too it was also so easy to beat I died a little inside its like they didn't even try
Edit: oh whats this just encountered a Ledian hmm level 5 thats not right |
I played it on ROM, it was going good - until I forgot to save. It's pretty hard, I guess... I haven't been playing Pokémon lately, so...
Great games, but the english versions SUCK because of censorship, the censorship "absol"-utely (oh c'mon, "absol"-utely is not a bad joke, this is a Pokemon forum for petes sake!) RUINED my childhood by renaming Tin Tower, changing entire lines of dialouge, and Voltorb Flip, I always hated Voltorb anyways, but you can blame Jack Thompson and PEGI for killing the Game Corner......
In general, I prefer the original GSC, 8-BIT FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!! |
This game is the best Pokemon game I have ever played. Definitely top-notch sexy. I guess I expected a lot from it anyway, seeing as It's Johto, the best region with the best story and game play IMO.
So, It's like Pokemon G/S/C on crack. |
I loved HG so much that I bought SS today.
I've enjoyed my copies of HGSS (preordered both and both Ho-oh and Lugia are hanging around Giratina on my shelf...whenever my cat's not knocking them down) and besides my iffy-ness on the game corner (I'd love it more if I could just buy coins or if they had both of the gamecorner games from 2nd gen), I feel that it's a nice homage to G/S/C. Especially since I gave up trying to play my old Silver version since the save battery died years ago. It's at least a good replacement for some of us who have DSes and broken carts.
I hate GameStop because they didn't give me my Ho-Oh Figure. I went in to get my pre-ordered copy and while I was waiting for them to give me the figure they said NEXT.
Loved the game, hated the fact that I couldn't get the preorder figurines here because apparently Australia is a mythical land of unicorns and fairies who have never heard of figurines.
It was cool as storyline, graphics, and playing ...
But, try getting a Pokemon up from Lv. 2 to Lv. 50 for using in the Battle Frontier ! IT TAKES FOREVER !! @[email protected] Mostly because you're afraid of most trainers which have Lv. 56 Pokemon which YOU have to beat with that Lv. 31 Golbat of yours ! God freaking kill me, I off the wave, still playin it, but I MUST finish my team before I enter the Battle Frontier. And Pt. was all faster .. ;_; |
It's okay I guess, It killed a bit of time, but I still use platinum as my main game.
Playing Soul Silver on the DS brought back old memories from when I was younger playing silver on the GC. It has been great so far and I think Game Freak hit it on the spot doing remakes of Gold and Silver.
Quote:
The menu on the touch screen was nice. Better way to use the DS' touch capabilities and should have been implemented in DPPt in the first place though I hated the PC design. It was just kinda messy and not as fast as the PC in previous games. |
Quote:
Totally love it. The way they Integrated user interface with touch is very convenient and much more better than those in D/P/Pt. I really like gym leaders new design, they're look great compared to the original .
I never got any of the Generation II games but one of my friends has it so I can compare games and sounds so its pretty good.
Haven't enjoyed a Pokémon game as much as this one, it's just way too epic. I love how you have your Pokémon walking next to you, brings back so many good times. Overall, it's the only reason why I got my Nintendo DS XL.
just bought it yesterday nd i think its pretty cool....the fact that it was a remake made me want to get it becuase i used to play pokemon wen i was lil jit....its funny cuz im like the only person playin it out of my "bout that life" friends
Its better than the diamond, pearl, and platinum. I loved it. I hate the new pokemon. The new pokemon has so many different kind of weakness.
I bought as I saw a lot of English translaters trying to translate the text for HG/SS. So,I thought it would be good...
I really love Pokemons walking behind me (I remembered I hate my Pikachu so much and traded him off to evolve xD).
&&, the best game I ever had - Remind me of my Crystal times! |
I don't know how you found that it was no fun... I honestly dislike people who are too picky to like anything, especially a remake, to make better, of one of the greatest games of all time. The two games are great in most ways, and I see nothing that would even come close to "no fun." If you think there was no fun in it, then you might as well drop the series for yourself, because it will only get better.
I really love HG/SS. The only thing that bothers me is that I'm forced to train with wild pokemon, since there is no VS Seeker. The Voltorb Flip also made me a bit frustrated, but nonetheless, this game is spectacular.
I thought i was the only one asking for a remake, kind of like a dream that would never come true haha. Well i remember getting it, battling with my friends, and overplaying it so much, never got tired of it. Now I am 18 years old, i had Diamond, and whatnot when it came out, but was just digging it a bit, you know? It's good, but to a certain point. I had sold my DS over a year and 1/2 ago, focusing more on my personal life, music, and my high school now off to college.
I heard from my friend "Dude, did you hear about Heart Gold and Soul Silver?" I said "What are you talking about?" he said, "They are remaking soul silver, coming out next month :)" I jumped and i kissed my girlfriend (she's a pokemon fan as well :) ) and i (after school) went to get a job, waited till Soul Silver came out, and that day, me and my gf went to the store, and bought ourselves a copy of both. I obviously got Soul Silver, and i convinced her into getting Heart Gold. I love that game, and so does she, we trade, battle and train, it's freaking awesome. There's no dissapointments about it, in fact, in my, and her opinion, they made it better than the original, with everything that they added. Game Freak has relived my childhood and there's not a day that passes by without me or her playing that game. :) |
heheh I'm 25 years old. I just got the game a few days ago. I got my 7th badge and I'm training my pokemon to become stronger.
I really love HeartGold. I don't think it could really ever replace the same feelings I got with Gold and Crystal, but I think it's still one of the best Pokemon games ever. I love that you can walk with your Pokemon now. Didn't think I would ever see that again after Yellow.
I don't really have a problem with the game besides a couple things. I don't like that the game corner was taken out and replaced with Voltorb flip, for example. And no VS.Seeker....gets tiring fighting wild Pokemon. |
I bought SS for my fiance because he's a big Pokemon fan as well. We had a lot of fun with the Pokewalker, and he said the game was pretty awesome. We did have some problems with it crashing though and losing his entire save game. It was pre-ordered, and completely legit. :(
i think the game is great, but i mainly got it for the pokewalker and the items/ pokemon with good moves!still the remake is very good!
I prefer Platinum more, but this is a great game none the less.
I especially love how you can run without rendering your B button useless and the fact that every single pokemon follows around. The Pokewalker is a nice toUch, as are the new Egg moves. The sole reason I prefer Platinum is that there is more to do after the Elite 4, not to mention that training is by far easier in Sinnoh than Johto. I do like the Kanto feature and the ability to get 3rd Gen Legendary's though. Some sprites in HG/SS are a little disappointing, like Quagsire. However, others like Kabutops and Raticate were simply astounding. Scizor's is simply epic, even if I love his old school D/P sprite. Not bad Gamefreak, not bad. Have a cookie. |
My experience was... mixed. :\
Okay... here goes... I was excited when i first got it. When I heard New Bark's theme, I was sooooo emotional. :') However, the... "moment" soon wore off and I was literally trudging through Johto. :\ It was... boring. :\ However, after a bit more of playing, I got back into it. Some parts were good, some not so good. The Pokeathlon, for example, was amazing. The Game Corner was horrendous. I want slots back. xD Or, at least the ability to buy coins. ;) Plus, Crystal features made me smile, as I loooove Pokemon Crystal. However, the amount of legendaries... :\ They're legendaries, not common Pokemon! |:< However, it was challenging and I only completed it because i traded a Lucky Egg over. :P Red was cool, and so was Lance, and they were both challenging! :) Plus, the PokwWalker was cool. Tl;dr, HG/SS was okay, but could have been better. |
When I first got it I was really disappointed. I didn't like the graphics, especially the design of the girl player. I've gotten used to her and I love the graphics now but I still miss Kris. T__T As for the rest of the game... surprisingly, it doesn't give me much of a nostalgic feeling at all. It's only every now and then that I'm struck with that pleasant deja vu feeling. Frankly, this remake is just too different from the original to make me all warm and fuzzy inside. And if I was judging this game all on its own merit and not the fact that it's a remake... I have to say that it's pretty boring. And the phone calls drive me CRAZY!!!
But ooooooomfg. I love the pokeathalon. SOOO much fun! And I like that I can use the points to buy awesome stuff like KINGS ROCKS! *swoon* Aren't the songs different? They aren't familiar to me. It seems like if I recognized them from G/S/C that I would feel more nostalgic about HS. |
G/S/C were my absolute favorite Pokemon games, so just being able to go through Johto (and Kanto) again is amazing. The new features, such as the Pokeathlon, having Pokemon following you around, etc, are really cool. And of course, the Pokewalker is a nice touch as well.
I got kind of disappointed when the female player was announced, but when I got SS I was super happy. I still chose the male player, though. XD
What I find is that it's really hard to train in some places. So right now I'm stuck with a bunch of level 30s in Pryce's gym. Bah. The Pokeathlon is incredibly fun, and the Pokewalker is fun to walk around with. I'd say I like HG/SS. |
HeartGold and SoulSilver were worth the wait.
I have HeartGold, and I love it. G/S/C were my favorite games, and Johto is my favorite region. I love the graphics, the ability to still go to Kanto, the ability for your pokemon to follow you, overall I pretty much love everything about it. Playing it brought back some memories of when I originally played G/S/C. |
I really enjoyed Heart Gold, I was expecting it to be a bit rubbish, but that was just me being pessimistic. I like how it turned out and I am thinking about bying Soul Silver just to say I got both haha :D
TIN TOWER TO BELL TOWER SUCKS!! PC IS SLOW AS HELL!!! THIS GAME GETS 8/10!! SO GOOD BUT SO NOT THE ORIGINAL!!!!

Overall, I'm quite impressed. It's much more fun than I remember Gold/Silver being, and I like all the little additions and extras, such as the ability to let pokemon out of their ball at last.
